So great to see you enjoying yourself at that amazing course. I only shoot under par about a handful of times a year, but I never let a bad round affect my mood. I’ve been playing for 30 years, and I’ve learned to take the good with the bad. Golf is hard. lol Your ball striking is top level, Matt. I think you shoot around par there, on a calm day.
Can’t recommend it enough, probably my favourite course . Played it in 30mph winds and let’s just say there wasn’t many short approaches into the greens 😂
What a beautiful brute of a golf course... You did really well considering the wind... It reminds me of when I played the Old Course, we stood on the first and it was blowing 45mph into off the right, the most severe front nine I've ever played.
Fair play for not editing. I play here quite regularly and it is mighty tough in any conditions, but its very rarely still. PB is 72 and some days par is 82 like your day.
Loved the content and the course! That wind was brutal!! I was yelling at my phone “ dammit don’t hit the 6 iron again!!!!!” Cheers Matt and crew great stuff!
Nothing like sitting here having lunch watching Matt battle the winds while contemplating the round I have as a guest at Woodlands Victoria, Nine and Dine this evening. Ahh the bliss.
Another great vid Matt. Just keep on top of the wind direction and speed. 😮 (GET A WEATHER APP Course layout on the back of the card then draw wind direction on the course map) Mind you this was a bit excessive on the wind front.😮
Played it last April (far less wind !) and 2 rounds booked this May along with 1 at Praia Del Rey. West Cliffs an absolute gem of a setting and incredible golf course. Still relatively under the radar. Don’t think that will remain the case much longer !
Beautiful! On a different subject, being known for your short game, any plans to review the Tour Edge Wingman wedges and putter? Can't find hardly any reviews on the wedges.
Played there 1.5 years ago. Great course although our group preferred Praia del Rey just because of the the stretch right along the sea. The condition of West Cliffs was probably better though, we just found Praia Del Rey more memorable.
There at the end of April, will be my first visit (along with Praia Del Rey and Royal Obidos). Can’t wait to be honest as the weather has been shite here! Shooting 150 in the sunshine has never bothered me 😂
Thats a great score in that wind! Played it last Sept and it's the most unforgiving course I've ever played. You can stray off. The fairways or greens by a couple of yards and lose your ball in the scrub amd succulents!! 😂. It is stunning though.
A very good test of your skills in that wind. The Matt Fryer of a few years ago would have (let's keep it nice) probably used very colourful language and have totally lost it. Your temperament has become far more calmer, well done.
We played somewhere that was the only course open in the area,as it was so (gale force 5 I think)windy every other course was closed as trees were in danger of coming down. Loads of greens had the flag on the green,& we were cursing the possible group somewhere in front of us not putting the flag in. It was only when we got to a par 3 later in the round we saw the the wind was so strong it was throwing the flag out of the hole. Great fun tho & had one of my better rounds 😆
£110 per round you say is reasonable… probably is if you can afford those prices unlike me and my golf mates drawing our pensions and watching the pennies, I’m sure my golf would be better playing on manicured golf courses and not on ones where standards are not kept I.e divots not replaced, pitch marks not repaired and bunkers that have sub-standard sand or what passes off as sand, but on a lighter note I love watching you and other you tube golfers, keep up the good work
Frankly, you didn't play at all badly. Judgement of the wind was key. I played the majority of my golf on a links course and ball flight is the most difficult skill to master.
Might be better to walk the course in those conditions than play. Then you get nice views and a stress less day. I hate the wind. You look like you're hitting better.
In the lesson with your dad he had you commiting more to the shot. Quite a few of your shots in this video seemed a bit conservative and "steery". Do what the old man says!
Honestly, did you not learn anything playing in East Lothian? 118 yds into a hooley is a three quarter six iron back in the stance, all day every day. Anything over that creates too much spin and loft, and will simply balloon and stall. On a day like that, anything over ten feet in the air is unacceptable and psychotic.😀
great score for the conditions
Its an absolute gem......so tough when the wind blows!
Great score and well played in those conditions.
That was SAVAGE! Well played Matt 👏
Stunning course, well played in that wind.
Great golf in the conditions, well played Matt 👍👍
Tough day with that wind. Very nice looking course.
Wow...thats a good score in that wind!
Great looking course. Matt you need to come to N Z and play Kauri Cliffs you would just love it.
Just played it twice last weekend ! Good to see it being played properly 👍
That was brutal conditions good effort
In the red let's go Matt you got this beautiful looking course

Great video and love the opening with all the info.
Good job, good video. Love when hats start flying of Fryer.
Well played. score in those conditions! Great video. 👍
When I went the sheets of rain took my mind off the wind!!!
Hi Matt we played West Cliffs in 2019 on our lads trip. Fabulous course no wind that day either. Great performance in that wind
You make a 10 0ver look like a 3 under unlike that Rick fella who makes golf look depressing lately. Enjoyed watching.
Great looking course, good score with those conditions.
Great vlog man, course looks friggin mint!
That course is amazing. I would love to play there someday, but doubt I would have enough control to score respectable. Well done Matt.
Can’t recommend it enough, probably my favourite course . Played it in 30mph winds and let’s just say there wasn’t many short approaches into the greens 😂
Wow! Well done on a beautiful, difficult course under difficult conditions!
What a beautiful brute of a golf course... You did really well considering the wind...

I dread to think what my score would have been on this round.
Well done Mat. Great content.
Played it a couple of times. Great course. And defiantly a stern test of golf in the wind!
Played really well for the conditions with minimal moaning about how tough it was - really good video
Fair play for not editing. I play here quite regularly and it is mighty tough in any conditions, but its very rarely still. PB is 72 and some days par is 82 like your day.
That was a brutal test of golf. Ten over was a great score in those conditions.
Loved the content and the course! That wind was brutal!! I was yelling at my phone “ dammit don’t hit the 6 iron again!!!!!” Cheers Matt and crew great stuff!
😂 your response after that shot on 18 had me laughing as I can relate to it great job on a tough day but stunning track
What a windy day 48mph winds equates to nearly 80kmph where I’m from, well done Matt, a great back 9
You need to do a what is in your bag and why etc.
Putting is hard golf is fun Matt is great fun thanks
Love the Callaway "soccer" balls! :)
…my home club. i love it ❤
That wind is brutal. 🤣
Nothing like sitting here having lunch watching Matt battle the winds while contemplating the round I have as a guest at Woodlands Victoria, Nine and Dine this evening. Ahh the bliss.
Monte Rei in Portugal is my favourite course of all time, must have played it 9/10 times now but still nothing compares.
Well played Matt in very difficult conditions. At least it wasn’t raining.
That strong of a wind destroy even the smallest miss.
Another great vid Matt. Just keep on top of the wind direction and speed. 😮 (GET A WEATHER APP Course layout on the back of the card then draw wind direction on the course map)

Matt on how to play golf in a hurricane!
Tough going matty, good scoring considering
Tough ask in that wind. Like I said previously, The Millbrook Golf Club may be a little easier.
I play at Thorpe wood golf course in Peterborough Cambridgeshire. It's only £18 in the week and £22 at the weekends
My overriding memory of west cliffs is don't miss the fairway
Course reminds me of Barwon Heads GC, Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria, Australia - views too.
Played it in august.
Fantastic but so chalanging golf course.
Incredible club house also but always empty…
There at the end of April, will be my first visit (along with Praia Del Rey and Royal Obidos). Can’t wait to be honest as the weather has been shite here! Shooting 150 in the sunshine has never bothered me 😂
Another brilliant and entertaining video, shouldn't be to disheartened with the score, I thought you performed a bit of a miracle in that wind
Have a house near here and it's one of my favourite courses in the world!
If in doubt blame the wind 😊
Just played in Fuerteventura with 41 mph winds - just make the game mental - balls moving 80 yards in the wind side to side, so feel your pain Matt
Fuerteventura: strong winds. It does what it says on the tin!
Thats a great score in that wind! Played it last Sept and it's the most unforgiving course I've ever played. You can stray off. The fairways or greens by a couple of yards and lose your ball in the scrub amd succulents!! 😂. It is stunning though.
Looks a great course - I like Troia by Setubal on the other side of Lisbon.
Any time you are playing next to the Atlantic coast it's going to be tough!
A gem. Visually intimidating. Definitely the go to course when wanting to beat the weak minded. You drove the ball well mate.
For your information the wind velocity 30 feet above ground level can more than double.
Probably a good level par round in calm conditions. +10 probably a decent score
I notice you are gaming the Mizuno’s. I just bought my first set of Mizuno irons. I think I am a Mizuno guy for life now.
Please go back in calmer conditions. Would love to see it! Love how you always remain upbeat and positive. RS take note!!!
Stunning course, and some unlucky breaks for you Matt, funny how times have changed when we think €120 is good value!
Best course I've ever played has to be The Ailsa at Turnberry, love every hole, feels special on every hole
The wind is about 30-40mph at my house so I’m watching this outside pretending I’m there with Matt
Conditions were horrendous. Well done for attempting to play
A very good test of your skills in that wind. The Matt Fryer of a few years ago would have (let's keep it nice) probably used very colourful language and have totally lost it. Your temperament has become far more calmer, well done.
Intro to video “it’s 6900 yards” and on the first tee “a bit over 7000 yards” 😂
We played somewhere that was the only course open in the area,as it was so (gale force 5 I think)windy every other course was closed as trees were in danger of coming down. Loads of greens had the flag on the green,& we were cursing the possible group somewhere in front of us not putting the flag in. This round made me feel similar to the Alan Partridge episode when he over eats on chocolate
You did extremely well; perhaps you need to install a wind-tunnel in your garden to practice. Lol 😂
At what time do you hit off the Red tees - is it an age thing ? As we get older we lose distance.
Have to say, I thought you played brilliantly on those conditions.
Matt, please go back to the blacked out Evenroll fang putter and then, never change again. Oh, and I would suggest playing in less wind. 😉
That looked brutal. No fun when playing in that wind.
Making this comment after 5th.... He's one under by my count... That's a par 90 with that wind!!! My Goodness!!!
Dude ! Give yourself a break… conditions brutal..
£110 to shoot a 130 and lose a dozen balls. You're a braver man than I lol. Brutal conditions and a pretty good score.
It's €99 even in peak season, but apart from that, good point.
We had a trip planed for Lisbon and absolutely to West Cliffs---then Covid appeared and we had to cancel. And our apartment owner kept our money...
Take out the flags for putts!!
Golf has a few simple rules that must never be violated. Like never chip when a putt will do. Another is NEVER TAKE DRIVER OFF THE DECK!!!
For someone who's been struggling to get anywhere close to "In The Red"... Why on earth would you attempt to break par in these conditions, Matthew???
He’s a sucker for punishment
-1 today Matt 🎉
At least it wasn't raining and windy
Was it windy?
Just the 50mph winds 😬
I wanted to watch this but I am 14 minutes in and have had 5 ad breaks for coffee. I can't watch any more sadly.
Might be better to walk the course in those conditions than play. Then you get nice views and a stress less day. I hate the wind. You look like you're hitting better.
Yellow golf ball or am I losing my mind
Clubbing has been shocking lately. Tricky conditions granted. But I’m shouting at the screen saying too much club!!!
Day/video 46 can i have the ER5 yet
Change the putt Matt.!!!! You were a good putter but not with this one
In the lesson with your dad he had you commiting more to the shot. Quite a few of your shots in this video seemed a bit conservative and "steery". Do what the old man says!
If you took a shot every time Matt says "wind" you wont finish the video
$150 might be reasonable for greens fees if you're Scrooge McDuck. 😂
Honestly, did you not learn anything playing in East Lothian?
