Today's generation will never understand how big Gaga was in 2009-2011. She was literally everywhere and everybody was talking about her. I'm not sure we will ever see the emergence of such a big superstar since the industry has changed a lot

@@vangelissopamenaI don’t know about that - saying that Taylor is a bigger star. More active, maybe. But also they are focusing on totally different industries now.
Taylor is really pushing herself to the max right now with her music, doing as much and releasing as much music as she can (I would say the amount is overwhelming, but hey, good for her). She’s doing in terms of amount of work what Gaga used to do years ago.
Now Gaga has seemingly started to take things slower. Focusing on fewer, but larger projects, and focusing primarily on work outside of music, acting, make up brand, philanthropy and whatnot.

From the moment I looked up the artist that Christina Aguilera was copying the VMA style from I fell in love with her. If Britney, Christina, and Shakira had a child Gaga would be her name 😂. She had the best out of these girls from Britney she had the Pop Icon/ clear vocals (while Shakira and Christina have good vocals they lack clarity when they sing and they can sound too harsh), from Christina she had the power of the vocals and girls just wanna have fun attitude, and from Shakira she had the smarts, the powerful dancepop sound (though Gaga made it more electronic) and the personal songwriting skills. The best of these artists combined in one

Gaga is the last superstar. The reason Lady Gaga, the Beatles, and Elvis Presley, Genghis Khan, Cleopatra, etc. exist is because of what civilization was before the dawn of the Internet and the new millennium. Everything after is the void. For culture to reach a place again where an artist like Gaga can exist on the cutting edge of human capacity, the Internet will have to no longer exist. Not only will the Internet have to cease to exist, but humans will have had forgotten about it and lived without the Internet for several thousand years. Après Gaga, the void.

Following Gaga's career from the end of the high school and all through university was the most exciting time of my life. I don't care if people say don't let your life revolve around a celebrity cause it's not healthy or something -- I let my life revolve around her during that time and I don't regret a single moment. I will never forget how I felt when I first saw her for $20, and then saw her bloody Paparazzi performance in person athe VMAs, or how much fun I had camping out the night before for her GMA show with friends, or how I felt when I first heard Born This Way premiere on the radio and it felt like I tapped into some alien recording via satellite it was THAT huge of a moment for me, or how she made me feel when we finally met and she touched my hair and gave me hugs. i'll also never forget when people around me started to turn their back on her after that and during ARTPOP, I was enthusiastically showing people the songs/videos and they weren't "getting" it. I felt so confused.
Seeing all the clips of her throughout this video was so nostalgic and got me feeling so happy to have experienced all that -- thank you for the trip down memory lane. Maybe it wasn't *that* long ago....but it was such a magical & exciting time.

thanks for sharing that. People would say things like to me but Gaga is so much more than a 'celebrity'. She's a force for good and stands for something really positive. It wasn’t long before I was on TH-cam, scouring the site for any and all information I could on this “Lady GaGa”. It would be one of the first songs I would ever purchase myself, and it seemed like almost immediately, I’d found my “mother monster”.
GaGa has changed my life in as many ways as she has saved it. Her music, her style, her personality, her voice, her messages of healing through music, celebration of fame, success, but above all love and passion through creative expression. I first remember hearing Gaga on the radio throughout 2009 when I was in between graduating 5th grade and starting middle school but I first saw her physically when watching the 2009 MTV VMAs and her performance of paparazzi I was so shocked and amazed by the theatrics, the powerful vocals, her stage presence, the emphasis on fashion and fame etc and that ending … like crazy. And I’ll never forget since 90% of the people who went to middle school also went to elementary school with me and my twin sister so the next day in fact the whole month of September everyone talking about her VMAs performance. I spent my entire childhood and eventually first years of young adulthood watching her from the massive fame monster and born this way eras to her 2011 VMA performance of you and I to the release and hype of the telephone video to her musical transformation with cheek to cheek and Joanne to her development as a Hollywood movie star starting with a star is born, It’s amazing to watch her evolution throughout the years since
although I have had critique on Gaga at her prime mainly feeling like her persona and showmanship didn’t match her music I can’t deny her impact and influence in contemporary pop music she’s one of the best pop stars today and one of the most multi talented performers of all time

I remember being sick at home on April Fools Day in 2009. Was absolutely miserable at home all day, but had the glimmer of hope for that night's American Idol. It was progressing well, and after a commercial break a newer artist was introduced and changed my life.
On that stage was GaGa playing Poker Face on piano, and just completely drawing all of my attention. She then stopped, the camera zoomed out, and the regular instrumental starts up. In the time from piano to main stage, she had changed outfits and never missed a beat during that performance .
I don't remember anything else from that day, but I remember how I felt in that moment. The awe, the spark of creativity, and the vow to be like her. I felt like she gave me permission to be subversive, to make noise, to like boys, and so much more.

Michael Jackson used pop culture and fame as inspirations too, came up multiple times in Thriller and every album after it. He also blended pop music with film, art, design and technology too. Worked with American painters & artists regularly (Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, Mark Ryden and Keith Haring painted or sculpted him during his lifetime), has an invention patent, created the first high production music videos, pioneered the visual album and also had a successful Sega video game in the late 80s. He was also a major inspiration to Gaga, not just Andy Warhol. She's spoken extensively about how MJ has influenced her approach to pop and pop art.

During that time the following hits were released Disturbia (Rihanna), I Kissed a Girl (Katy Perry), Womanizer (Britney Spears), and Keeps Getting Better (Christina Aguilera). She really was one of the final massive monoculture moments. 2009-2011 was pretty much the end of that time when stars could get that ubiquitous and big. Her Taylor and Beyonce still being around now also shows that some of these megastars got very lucky debuting in that pre-social media/streaming age and carrying over into the present. Newer artists feel so niche and small now.

Gaga was a cultural reset. She emerged at a time when there was no space for weirdness in pop music, the biggest pop stars just had to be pretty. Katy Perry was a bit weird, but in a cute way. Gaga was weird weird, so unapologetically herself! That inspired me so much as a teen who felt different than most people around me, it was cool to be weird and, well, that feeling made me act in ways that make me cringe now when I remember, but it's a part of life, right?
She really created magic with RedOne, but aside from making me dance to her sound, she got me into bands like Depeche Mode and The Cure. What other contemporary pop singer ever referenced so many outstanding artists like Bowie, Hitchcock, Kubrick, to name a few? She was the real deal. Great video!

I remember seeing her live in London in 2010 for a mere €30. I had bought the ticket just because I enjoyed Bad Romance and thought it would be a fun night. I was shocked at how elaborate the show was and how talented she was for her first concert tour. That's when I became a "fan".

Then I looked back into it all when I was 13-14 and I fell even more in love! There’s no other artist I connected with as much as I have with Gaga, with how artistic and haute couture she is (or was considering she seems to have retired that aspect of her?), even though I’ve come to love Madonna and Taylor, Ive had an emotional connection with gaga because of just how long I’ve been a fan and growing up with her.

I adore Lady Gaga. The Chromatica Ball was one of the best live experiences of my life up there with Madonna and Bjork and Kate Bush.
But I started out with a lot of animosity for what I thought she represented. I was a very different person then and celebrity culture felt like an assault every day. I was desperate for authenticity so Gaga from the face of it seemed vacuous and depressing to me.
