Here's the problem with some people commenting here. They lack commprehension hence they argue needlessly. The chef gave credit to the Urhobos as the originators of the soup which is the right thing to do. But her title says "Benin Style" which also acknowledges the fact that it's different from the Urhobo style. She hasn't abused or disrespected the Urhobos style. Nigerians should learn to comprehend what they're reading before resorting to sentimental comments that exposes their ignorance.
this owol soup is for yam and plantin i grow in Benin so i no of this owol the urhubo owol is different we don't use tomatoes rather we use starch or garri for the thickening ... i enjoy eating this owol too it so delicious 😋😋😋
the way you con dey cook am their self, my sister, it be like say i con dey begin to dey perceive odor, the aroma of your cooking self, just dey penetrate my nose small small, thank you for the nostalgia
This is bini ohwo soup, the Urhobos do not use tomoatoes, theirs is is very native. The Binis use tomatoes and usually add their oil after it’s done, while the urhobos use oil almost from the beginning. The Bini ohwo soup tastes a little less native because of the tomatoes. And the urhobos use starch or Garri as thickener. Both styles are very tasty.
I am bini and grew up in urhobo land. Urhobo owo is not cooked with tomatoes, at all. This is bini people owo. And the palm oil is too small. To make good Owo soup, be generous with the palm oil. Good video though
Benin own sweet die....make Urhobo and Isoko keep their own we nur want..She tittled it benin style..what has this has to do with Urhobo and Isoko? stupid comments..
And Itsekiri people too but no tomatoes. Her method is different but as long as the end result is good that's all that really matters. You go girl.., do your thing!
It's more delicious with starch, my grandmother always make it with starch, plantain or yam,i really miss home and my grandmother.heart you so much grandma,I will return to meet you alive and eat again ur owo soup!!!!!
Save yourself the Grammar and ear real food. The doughnut, coke and sausage u eat is vitamin abi? Or the rice, fried plantain, spaghetti you eat is protein right?
Precious Bernard my dear all you said now hmm sorry but not making sense..i didn't talk about what I eat here and if you want some healthy recipes I ll be glad to give you some..even you know very that our food is full of carbs and fat. Stay blessed
blessing olaye if you know this recipe isn't healthy, then wtf are u doing here? You don't have to talk about your the meal you eat, just stop looking for fault unnecessarily. Keep your healthy recipes, I bet it has all the fat and oils in the world
+edesiri gabari thanks for your comment you are right this was how we made it in Benin or at least that was how my grandma made hers and I just assumed that was how the Urhobo made theirs too. thanks for the clarification.
This menu is tickling my throat now because when I was in England, I had Nigerian foods twice a month. This was what my late daughter, Ada-Emilia Ruth Jr. asked me to cook for her. Sadly because she was too ill to be left on her own, I could not go out to get the ingredient. Two weeks later SHE WAS NO LONGER THE LIVING. She asked whilst she was on her sick bed at the first hospital; where she was admitted. Because of this, the nurse taking her blood pressure, looked at me and greeted me in Urhobo way. And I replied her in Urhobo way. She then told me that they never realized that I had Nigerian link.
Learn before you speak brown sugar, cos benin people from edo state cook theirs this way, I'm a proper urhobo girl but I grew up in benin so I know, so get your facts right before you speak or rather type.
I guess everyone or Niger Delta tribes have their own way of cooking Owoh. I'm Urhobo (Effurun) and we never use tomatoes and onion is used for cooking the meat. We used starch/garri to thicken. This method is overseas kind of owoh where I believe some key ingredients might be hard to find. Good try though.
Ella Fene it is benin owo soup ,and onion is better to thicken it remember starch and garri is cabohydrate and even your yam or eba is also cahbohdrate,,,,,soup cabohdrate eba cabohydrate
Do your research well, this is not abroad style I grew up in benin and I'm proper delta girl this is how the benin people cook it even in Nigeria it is their style, and it is very yummy, rather than comparing or trying to feel superior like owo is restricted to us deltans why not try it out first.
ema obas, hello! I still recall that as a little girl, my father always asked my mum, to prepare OWO or UKODO for him. Both soup could be used for boiled plantain and starch. This's as Urhobo as it gets. I think that the Isoko tribe would eat it as well; but I'm not sure. Yes, may soul rest in peace and thank you so much! Have a nice evening!
+omona iyemere you are right it is a staple amongst the Niger-deltans. I am from Benin and owo soup is pretty popular here too but just prepared slight differently. you have a great evening.
ema obas that's nice know that you're an Ovbiedo. It's possible that Benin people have it as well. And also Ishan people, Anthony Enahoro people. This part of Nigeria, used to the then 'MIDWEST STATE' changed to 'BENDEL STATE' and now two states are carved out of it. I knew that Bendel meant 'Benin Delta' now Edo & Delta. I know that some Ijaw tribe, would eat it as well. Those in Warri area. Thank you & good night!
Abeg nor vex.. How can you say that was the end result? For your mind that one na owo? Owo wey I dey see oil on top? I was shocked when u said it was ready.. No hard feelings but please go and learn owo well..
This is our soup (Urhobo people) and it's supposed to be a palm oil soup. Why the hell are you using tomatoes and onions? It's a native soup for Christ sake! And to think it has this much views is really sad. Get your facts right please. Don't spoil our dish for us.
Anita Switlipz my dear lemme hear word she wrote Benin owo not urhubo wareva, so get things right...to think of it so urhubo actually uses starch and garri to prepare owo😲😲😲😲 ahhhhhh what's that nauuuu no wonder dey said urhubo don't know how to cook oya go argue with ur river fishes😂😂😂😂
Your ignorance has caused insult on your people, so you think you have your facts right now, what a shame, this is proper edo owo soup and I went to learn it properly because it is very different from ours the urhobos, my fellow deltans think before you type ignorantly, learn! variety is the spice of life, respect other tribe style of cooking.
I'm urhobo but I can see that most of the delta people commenting here lack the right attitude, I must say you called insult on yourself now you're insulting someone mum, oh what a shame.
Here's the problem with some people commenting here.
