On my cat loader I use the big wing nut style hook ups and it is much easier than the push style. And the use thread on caps to keep dirt out when not hooked up
Next time you struggle to hook up hydraulic hose like you did there, if you crack the threads between the coupler and the hose ( let off pressure on the implement) it will connect easier for you. And as nji345 said hooking lines together will help keep pressure balanced in both hoses
Josh, I just watched this video and at the end you were struggling with the hydraulic connections. Try this - sit in the seat, turn on the key but don't start the skid steer. Click the hydraulic release switch to release. On your right side joy stick switch it so you can move the hand control side to side and move it several times. This will release the hydraulic pressure. You should then be able to hook up your hydraulic lines with no problem. I have the same vintage JD skid steer (mine is a 260) and had the same problem until someone told me about doing this. It works great. Also, do this BEFORE you unhook any attachment that has hydraulics. It will amaze you how easy it is once you do it. You may struggle with your attachments until you unhook all of them this way and then you should be golden!!
Hi Josh, I'm 59 years old and grew up on a farm and raised hogs, cows, chickens, and donkeys. Never knew charred wood and charcoal was a good wormer for cattle. Thats good info. Just shows your never too old to learn something new. Thanks man. I bet its good for hogs as well. Your landscaping looked good. Cleaned up nice.
Love those new attachments . It gets real on the farm sometimes . I'll run into something that normally hooks right up and usually after I knock a little bark off , It'll work just fine .
Man, on that video I posted with the new grapple...I was embarrassed how hard I had to work to get those fittings off! I usually keep a small hammer and tap those rings if they are being feisty. Not enough to dent or ding; just enough to break that seal. Love seeing Skiddy bop out there in the dirt!!! That thing is so cool!
Josh, it's so good to see you feeling better and with a little energy again. For awhile there, it looked like it was all you could do to just talk to the camera.
Laughed out loud when Josh got the 2nd line connected, smiled real big and said "That sucked!" I would imagine there was a lot of editing preceding that moment to keep this video family friendly... Wooooo!
I have the same skid steer with the same problem connecting hydraulic lines. I found if you keep the handle in the flow position (with the machine off) the lines connect right on. It needs to go to the left for the top line and to the right for the bottom connection. Also it needs to stay in the position when connecting not just back and forth. I watched you suffer connecting the lines and that was exactly what I was doing. Hope it works for you!
Get a piece of schoolyard fence 4 or 6ft wide and about 6ft ot 8ft long and put a piece of rebar through the end of it with a rope tied on each side for pulling it and set 4 or 6 car tires and wheels on top of it for weight. Use a lawn tractor or atv. It will smooth out your dirt better than any box spring and it pulls the grass and rocks out and rolls/drops them in piles for you to pickup. I pick them up with a flat shovel and a 5 gallon bucket or wheelbarrow. It works like a cheese grater because of all the little sharp points.
Josh, you can let the pressure off the tractor/skid steer by moving the controls, but you can still have pressure on the line(s). Depress the check valve on the end of the line by pressing on it with a screw driver or pushing it against a flat surface.. I suggest putting a rag over it first.
My quick claw industrial grapple from quick attach is the best of both worlds. It combines two of those functions together. I got mine this fall and absolutely love it was great for fence line clean up. I love using the rake part of the grapple can’t wait for spring to use it more. If you have electric solenoid‘s on your valve leave the key on and then move your joystick.
A 200’ X 60’ shop ! If I demolished my house I would have a bit space of left around that shop on my property. Looking forward to seeing that shop when it’s done.
When you take the grapple lines off, make sure that the grapple is not fully closed or opened. It creates more pressure on the flow detent if it is fully actuated.
Josh, Some times the pressure is in the hose not in the female end. Take the male end and bump it on a hard surface and it will relieve the pressure. It will let a small amount of hydraulic fluid out.
The more implements you have the more choices you have. Have you tried spraying the couplings with silicone spray. Not sure that’s the right one but there is one that’s good for these couplings. What a difference in the farm from the early videos. Good job Josh. Respect !.
Josh, when disconnecting attachments from my Ventrac, I leave the attachment in the up position and after I shut off the engine, I let the hydraulics down and that has eliminated the re-connect issues. Hope this helps!
Ventrac is a whole different ball game from this critter....but I do the same thing. Most of the time the ventrac will only have an issue if you've got pressure in the cylinder prior to disconnecting.
I been there and done that with my lines. Released pressure, as far unscrewing the connectors. I found if let the arms all the way down, then release the pressure so they settle into a neutral before unhooking, it work better.
Josh when hooking up your hydraulic lines first turn off the machine. Then turn thw key on the machine but don't start. Engage any safety devices and then move the hydraulic lever for the implement around in circles to relieve the pressure 👍👍
Usually to relieve the pressure on the machine side you turn the key but don’t crank it, hit park brake release and work your hydraulic function button or stick. Try to do this every time you hook and unhook bud.
I've had to crack the solid line's joints a few times to get things hooked up. What a pain! I have learned to place my grapple so that no movement can occur on the lids AFTER hoses are disconnected. Otherwise it's the grapple that has the "charged" line/s.
@@lydiaanderson1747 recovering slowly, but getting excited about getting out on the property i have owned since 1972... ready to clear some, build a cabin and plant a little garden, thanks for asking!

I know what you going through I dealt with hyd system for 30 years on flat face fittings they good but you need to carry 2 wrenches just take off the one fitting to bleed the hydraulic out of the line once that’s done it will hook up 🙁🙁
I have the same issue with my flat face style fittings sometimes I even have to loosen the lines to hook them up. I’m gonna try hooking them together and see if that helps! If you figure out a better way let us know!
It won't help..... temp change can increase pressure in your attachment and still make it impossible to connect. Will need to relieve the pressure or get connect under pressure fittings
The tracks are also good because you want that area nice. When you drive a skid steer with wheels over the yard it really packs the dirt down tight and things don’t grow well, it will destroy a septic system if you drive over it without tracks. We had in addition built on and they kept driving them back-and-forth over the yard and the guy you put the septic tank and had to basically re-dig everything up just to break it up, But other areas they drove it over or messed up still, the grass always grew really thin there no matter how much I fertilize it and we finally killed a big area of that to put a garden in and the grass started growing great there after the garden was gone and anywhere I dug up to plant a tree or something the grass grew fine in that area it was just too compacted. An ATV is fine or a side-by-side come up with a skid loader is just way too heavy without the tracks.
Josh I noticed you have Teflon tape on your connectors. The Teflon tape can wreak havoc on your hydraulic pump. I would recommend a sealant instead. Just my 2 cents. Keep the good content coming!!!
Do the pressure relief before you remove the attachment, I used to leave grapple slightly open on my Cat and turn the key on without starting and hit the buttons for opening and closing the the grapple, never had an issue hooking up again.
