Metroid's WEIRD Spinoff Games

- After the release of Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion in 2002, Metroid entered a bit of a renaissance in which Nintendo and Retro Studios released a TON of new games. Some of which were spinoffs. But, how exactly do you make a spinoff of something like Metroid? Well let’s take a look at a few of them like Metroid Prime Hunters, Pinball, and Federation Force to find out. Oh, also I threw Metroid Blast in there just for funsies. :)

I'll never forget when federation force came out. It was like being punched in the gut after Metroid fans waited for so long for a new game. X,D
this guy's content feels like scott the woz without the skits
i'm loving it, absolute top tier content
The spinoffs were actually pretty fun
Federation Force was released at a very bad time but I think it was a fun game. And I didn't even play with friends, since noone I know cares for Nintendo games. So I played by myself and with strangers and even then it was pretty fun. Also the objectives are varied compared to how many there are.
But I guess I'm in the minority liking this game. I still have the poster on my wall that I got with the game when it came out :D
Btw I never had a DS and I'm too lazy to emulate it, but Prime Hunters looks a lot less fun. I'm not a fan of online shooters like that game seems to be. And judging by what you said, it's not even worth checking out the single player. So I would say at least FF seems to be better than PH.
You're not alone. I also enjoyed Federation Force! I like how it tried to expand the Metroid Universe by letting us see things from the perspective of the Galactic Federation. And hey, it gave Samus some badass moments as well! (Except for her boss fight, anyway)
Perhaps if it was announced alongside Samus Returns, it wouldn't have received such vitriol. As it stands, I'd like to see another game try to expand upon it, but I don't think that'll happen anytime soon.
Good game unfortunate timing it deserves a revisit

federation force deserves a second chance
People only disliked it because of the timing of its release a lot of people who played the whole game thought it was good
It deserves to find a new audience it deserves a second chance
With Metroid in the public eye again do you think they’ll remaster federation force since people didn’t give that game a fair chance due to the lack of Metroid previously
The people who did play it thought it was good
I mean if they’re gonna do all the prime games how about the most overlooked one and bring it to a new audience
How about they don’t leave it where it is
Give it the remaster treatment or just port it it would do a lot better
"Dude, wake up, new Jakstalgia upload"
The Metroid series was something I’ve dabbled into with the demos in Smash 4, but at some point I want to get into these games.
You're extremely underated. I'm excited to see how your channel grows!
I was waiting for Metroid pinball to be mentioned lol. It’s the first thing I think of when I hear Metroid spin-offs
Prime Hunters is one of my favorite DS games 😅
Just found you channel and I’m surprised you don’t have way more subscribers! Keep up the great content
Great video, Jak!

LOLOL THAT SECOND 'remember me?' XD
Why hasn't this channel blown up yet?!?!!!
Federation force gets too much hate, its very fun and fits perfectly fine with the timeline and has a decent story, hunters story mode though disliked I find quite enjoyable probably because I used button controls plus the hunters do get a backstory, just scan them. Sylux and noxus gang

TBH as someone who became a fan in the mid-2010s, it's incredibly shocking to hear that Metroid was ever as popular as it was during the first half of the 2000s. Like holy goddamn shit, I'm still trying to process the mf DS being bundled AT LAUNCH with the First Hunt demo cart. That's like if in 2017 Nintendo launched the Switch with a code to download a demo for Metroid 5: Dread
I genuinely really liked Federation Force. Granted, it’s not a proper Metroid game, but if you take it for what it is, rather than what it isn’t, there’s fun to be had there!

METROID BLAST LET'S GO!!!!
love federation force
If your calling the 3d metroid games a spin off then you can call all the 3d mario and 3d zelda games a spin off
Yeah, I just find it interesting since Metroid Prime technically fits the definition of a spinoff, but I don't think anyone would actually classify it as one.

1:55 by that logic mario 64 is a spin off.
Yes, and basically every single nintendo 64 game from nintendo that isnt kirby 64
A pretty fascinating part of the metroid franchise.
