    Sean, congrats on the great review and especially on mentioning the Deviate Nitro 2 and how it compares to the Deviate Elite 2. You pointed one excellent point about the names of the shoes been so similar, but yet the shoes are so different. Regards from Brazil.

    Thanks buddy, very kind! I’m 6ft 6in 😉 this is one of the shoes that I feel I need to try based on the fact that it sounds very similar to the hyperion max, which I love!

      From watching some of your other videos, I know that you are a big fan of the Nike Streakfly for interval work. I haven't tried that shoe, but use the Takumi Sen for similar workouts. The Deviate Elite has a little more stack than the Sen 8 but also manages to be lighter. It feels great to turn up the pace in this shoe. It's light and fast and lets you run the way that you want to run. Refreshingly natural feeling for a super shoe. However, that natural feeling also means that it not giving you that explosive feeling that some of it's rivals have. It's definitely a good shoe and great at going fast for interval sessions. But I don't think that I'd choose this shoe to race in. The midsole has a feeling reminiscent of LightStrike Pro, where it gives you a little bit of bounce back but is not too compressive. That combined with the puma grip outsole makes me think that this will be a super durable speedy shoe that I can put a lot of miles in during training.
      I know that the second version of this shoe is coming out soon. Puma changed the plate in it as well as the upper, outsole, and the reviews that I've seen so far said that the foam feels more like what I've experienced in the Deviate Nitro 2 (a little softer and bouncier). I also know that it gained a little bit of weight in version 2. For $200 Puma is putting a really good shoe out there that is priced lower than most competing shoes. If someone is looking for a little bit lower stack carbon plated race shoe, with a more natural and not overly aggressive carbon plated feel, this may be the best super shoe out there to match that description. But I don't think it quite rises to the level of the Vaporfly, Adios Pro 3, or Endorphin Pro for race day. I got this shoe on sale and may pick up the second version later in the year when that goes on sale as well. I'm thinking that my next racing shoe has got to be the Vaporfly 3. I'm really looking forward to trying that one out.
      Keep representing for the tall guys out there! It's nice to see that someone taller than me can move as fast as you do! Gives me something to aspire to. I've only been seriously training for two years. So I'm still getting my running journey up and running. Pun intended. Keep killing it!

    This shoe is much more forgiving than the Takumi Sen. This is like a versatile racer. I think of it like running on dirt that is propulsive lol. I like this shoe when I don’t really know what a run will look like but I know will be faster, and I have the Endorphin pro 3 for my really fast days. I just purchased the nitro elite 2 so hopefully the additions just add to what is already a great shoe

      I'm really liking this shoe as well. It is definitely versatile and with a higher stack than the TS8, is more cushioned for longer efforts. Propulsive dirt is an interesting description. Haha. I know what you mean though. This shoe lets you dig in and push, while remaining light and natural feeling. I just wish it had a little bit more of a propulsive feeling to it. Let me know how you think the Elite 2 compares. I know that it gained a little bit of weight, but that they also changed the plate and outsole. I'm wondering if it has a little bit more of that assistive feeling that I'm lacking from the first model. It also looks like they took the tongue from the Deviate Nitro 2 and used it in the Elite. I really like the tongue in the DN2, so that was a good change from the thin, ungusseted tongue in the 1.

    I picked up these for $97.49+tax on Amazon recently (well end of Jan). At that price I couldn't pass up. I already have 3 pairs of Takumi Sen 8 at picked up around $75 (one last summer and 2 more pairs right before Thanksgiving), also great deals. I haven't used Deviate Nitro Elite much yet because of an injury. I love Takumi Sen 8 for my track workouts, but I will use TS8 for a coming 5K race in April as well.
    I agree for me Deviate Nitro Elite is in the same territory, but because it has better outsole than TS8 I think I will prefer it for medium distance Tempo efforts on the road. BTW, Molly Seidel won Olympic bronze in Marathon in these shoes, so there is that. Definitely, I don't look or run like her. 🤣

      Yeah, there is more midsole foam in the DNE and Puma Grip is a great outsole. I can definitely see the DNE being a better choice than the TS8 for longer races. I also think that it will be more durable as a trainer. I need to match these two shoes up soon to do some short fast runs and see how they compare. You definitely got great deals on both shoes. I was also able to get a second pair of the TS8 around Thanksgiving for $80. For less than $100, that may be the best shoe that you can buy. These two shoes love to turn up the pace. Elite runners like Molly are just in another stratosphere to us mere mortals. It blows me away with what they can do.

    It's on sale here in the UK. I can get it for under £80 ($96). Tempted at that price... Watch Andy a lot and can recommend him too. Forest of Dean is a great place I drive past it every day....

      That’s a little more than 50% off. If you need a speedy shoe and like that more minimal feel, you may want to give them a try. As I said, I think these are more like the Takumi Sen or Streakfly than the Vaporfly. But under $100 for an excellent tempo shoe is a great deal. I got my second pair of the Takumi Sen for $84 recently. That looks like a beautiful place to run.

      I think it was Sports-Shoes that was selling them at deep discounts. Lucky for me, Sports-Shoes also sold them on Amazon US for 97.49. I snatched a pair before they ran out of stock (end of January)

    good morning. I have 3 questions: Is its cushioning good? I would like to know if this shoe is suitable for half marathon / marathon and also for short training sessions, such as 5K, 10K. After 3 months, how is its durability? a big hug from Brazil

    • @runwithsean
      @runwithsean  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These shoes definitely have the stack height to be cushioned enough for a half or full marathon. However, the cushioning is more firm than Nike Zoom X, Saucony PWR run PB, and Adidas LightStrike Pro.
      The upper is also very tight fitting. There is not a lot of room in the toe box. I like how the upper hugs my foot and how light the shoe it. It is also stable for a super shoe, is very durable and has excellent grip. Puma Grip is probably the best outsole on the market. Looks good as new after 50 miles.
      The carbon plate in it is also not overly stiff. That makes the shoe more natural feeling, but I also feel like I get less propulsion from this shoe than the Vaporfly or Adios Pro 3.
      I personally will use this shoe more for speed sessions and shorter races. I ran a 10k recently in it in pouring rain. The Puma Grip and thin upper did great in those bad conditions. If I’m going to be in a shoe for 13 miles or more pushing it, I’d rather have a shoe with a bit more room in the upper and one that gives me a little bit more assistance than this shoe does.
      It’s light weight, easy to turn up the pace in, durable and fast. However, definitely not for someone with a wider foot and I want it to give me a little bit more energy return in a longer race.
      Puma recently came out with the Deviate Elite 2. That shoe has more room in the upper and they softened up the foam a little bit. It looks like an improvement to me. I maybe pick those up if they go on sale, but I don’t need another race shoe right now.
      I recently picked up the Hoka Rocket X 2. Will be giving those a shot in a half marathon that I’ll be running tomorrow. Curious to see how those do in that race. Thanks for watching!

    Can I use this as a daily trainer? Like running 2.5km daily

    • @runwithsean
      @runwithsean  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You definitely could. It’s very durable and has great traction. But I wouldn’t really recommend it. It’s a light fast shoe. But it’s very narrow, with a tight fitting upper and the foam is on the firm side. For a daily shoe, I’d want something a bit more comfortable. This would be like daily driving a Ferrari. You could do it. But sitting in traffic, I’d rather be in a BMW.

    Have you tried the Novablast 3?

    • @runwithsean
      @runwithsean  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the Original NovaBlast but have not tried the 2 or the 3. I know that a lot of people really love that shoe as a daily trainer that's also capable of turning up the pace a bit as well. Without running in the NB3, I can tell you that this Puma shoe is really in a different class of shoe. This shoe is definitely more of a stripped down, minimalist shoe, meant to go fast. The NB3 is more for those daily miles and can also get up to tempo paces. It's also a heavier shoe with a more padded upper.
      I have both the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 and Puma Deviate Nitro 2. Those two shoes really compete directly with the NovaBlast 3. Of those two, I find the Speed 3 softer, wider and more accommodating. It feels great at easy pace and I can get it up to my marathon pace. But it feels too soft to me to really turn up the pace in that shoe. I like the fit of the DN2 more. It's not as wide in the toe box and the plate in that shoe is much more present than in the Speed 3. That helps me to get up to faster paces in that shoe than the Speed 3. It feels more lively to me and rewards you for putting more effort into your strides.
      The NovaBlast is not a plated shoe. So if I had to guess, I'd think that shoe would slot in right between those other two. The Nova Blast 1 had a much bouncier feel to the foam than the Speed 3. If that feeling carries over to the NB3, I'd say that shoe would feel faster than the Speed 3. But I still think that I'd prefer the DN2. That shoe is really working well for me.
      I may pick up the NB3 later this year when it goes on sale. But I need to put more miles on the shoes that I have for a while now, so my wife won't get mad at me. Haha.

    Thanks. Work on your form. You are overstridering, often locking your knees, and hard hitting your heel. The Pumas are targeted for mid-foot runners. They are very good shoes.
