    My dad used to go to Lake Michigan in the spring to catch them for the local rod and gun club. Smelt frys in Wisconsin are a big deal.

    I've been wishing, hoping for some hooligan for years since I can't fish anymore and some boys brought some to church to share. So it's now a little after 3am and I just got done gutting a whole lot of fish, got a whole freezer full now. What a blessing! I at first wished they were gutted, but then I remembered that saying, "God feeds every bird but he doesn't throw the worms into the nest". So I was very happy to spend the time preparing this bounty for my freezer. Alaska is really great.

    Nothing tastier than a hooligan rolled in four, a little salt, a dash of garlic. Meanwhile a cast iron pan with a inch of vegetable oil, medium hot. Yum, cook to crispy!

    you guys can enjoy it in alaska because it's plentitful up there. down the lower 48, they sold it down here, which will cost you an arm and a leg, which is ridiculous for a fish that have no commercial values other than for curiosity and novelty.

    Loved doing this in the ocean in nome ak. Would put up 200 lbs until the next year. The dog mushers would get several ton for their dogs were no fish buyers there or we could of been rich. I did commercial fishing for herring and salmon for many years

      I remember back in the 60's our father used to always take us to Lake Michigan to catch perch and smelt. And the numbers were great, mewolf1 is right, it used to be that easy. I got many a fine meal out of that lake, a lot of good memories fishing it. I'm sad to hear if it's been overfished or polluted, or whatever the cause. I love that lake, I'm sad to hear if it's lacking these days.

      With the addition of the "Kings", the balance is off. Eating machines, among other issues.

    Maybe the worst tasting fish I've ever eaten. You eat everything but the head and tails. Oiliest things in the ocean. When they're dry you can light them with a match...no lie. They're gross, no matter how you smoke them, fry them, boil them, whatever. I have no idea why people catch them.

    YO, aint seen nuffin like it here, even the Elver run's are poor, ( elver's, for those that do not know are baby ell's, a delicacy in English cuisine ) ok any thing you can eat,, just do it. Food is Food... Use em for bait, Damn, can feed my family on em, God will provide, all.. Stay safe peaps.. look to the world and the word, for is it not written, they will not win....

      I bet you use them or ride a train or bus or airplane at times so don't be so obtuse....you got my point.you are just as much a killer as these guys are even if you are a strict vegetarian .The machines you use by proxy to harvest grains or vegetables you eat kill small rodents and birds.....the trucks that deliver them to market leaves dead deer by the roadside on occasion......and if you want to look at very small life the simple act of brushing your teeth or cleaning you toilet kills millions of single cell bacteria that were simply minding their own business and living the same life that you think the poor fish deserve and you poison them with chemical warfare for your convenience!! And that young lady is why I can call you a hypocrite who can't rub all four synaptic gaps together to create enough warmth for sympathy for your cause.

    • @nola1754
      @nola1754 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The main difference between me and those men in the video is, that I don't kill any animals intentionally. I don't catch them and I don't let them suffocate to death....

    Lots of unnecessary pain and suffering of the feeling animals in that fishing. There should be some solutions how to handle large amount of fish that way which minimize the pain and the suffering of the fish. Like they do in Norway and there has been development in the United Kingdom also.
