    I have a BMW 650i e64 convertible 2008 that I got in 2019 right before pandemic for only $15k before fees at only 51,000 miles. I absolutely love this car. Heaviest car I’ve ever driven. Acceleration is out of this world. Feels amazing. Best used car I ever bought but keep in mind getting one of these are expensive to upkeep especially in NYC. I take care of it well but it really does turn heads

      @shaserdeses - I have come across an 08 Coupe with 65K Miles. Was thinking of getting it just as a side summer/weekend car however hear horrible stuff about its V8. Are they really that awful? I would put apprx 6-8K miles per year.

    • @shaserdeses

      The N62 engine mate bmw used made for it is actually a fantastic engine. It won international engine of the year in 2002. Keep in mind a v8 is gonna guzzle gas a lot. If ur not driving a lot then you’re fine. My only downside has really just been handing tires, tire pressure and damage that can happen to the rims over time. If you’re using it just for summer then it’s perfect!

    So... I foolishly traded my beloved 2002 E39 M5 on a slightly used 2006 650i coupe, it even had a rare 6 speed manual. I liked the car except for the extremely harsh 1st gen run-flats. I took it to the track twice and would frequently meet a group of E63/E64s at the Tail of the Dragon. With the torquey V8 and ARS, it did quite well, even keeping up with M3s. We had folks from NJ, FL, MS, & IL, along with myself from NC! Some upped their 6's to M6s but I soon traded to a 2008 550i M Sport with 6sp auto and no runflat tires! I preferred the 550i room and comfort with minimal sacrifice in sportiness. We continued meeting at the TOD twice a year for 5 years when several moved on to other exploits. PS: I've driven 10 different BMWs at the Dragon over the years! SO nice to be relatively close to it.

    I often dream of what it's like to have roads this empty during the day without being in the literal sticks.
    Please appreciate how blessed you are for this. I have to wait until 10pm earliest to be able to go the speed limit without constantly cutting lanes, EXCLUSIVELY passing on the right & being an outright jerk, which is many times the only way to make it to work on time.

  • @pascutia
    @pascutia ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Thanks for doing this video! N62 is such a gem of an engine (if it was taken care of). Can’t emphasize the oil change interval importance on this engine enough. It has an awesome powerband, sounds almost exotic when you open it up, and it’s so smooth. Pushes these cars down the road really well. Even if an N62 was neglected and it’s leaking and/or burning oil, it’ll always just keep running. These don’t have all of the timing chain guide, injector, carbon buildup, HPFP, and rod bearing issues that the N63 has, especially the early one. Lastly, N62 still has a dipstick and a mechanical water pump, unlike most BMWs from that era and currently.

    • @RyanRoadReaper
      @RyanRoadReaper ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Achilles heel of the N62 are the valve seals. Once those are gone, it's typically more money than the car is worth to fix them.

    • @pascutia
      @pascutia ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@RyanRoadReaper You’re right. However, if the oil change intervals were sane (5-7k miles not BMW’s 15-20k interval), they can last a long time. I know 2 people with around 200k miles on original N62 valve stem seals, and they’re doing just fine. They did maintain the car religiously.

    I love the interior and powertrains of these older BMWs, aswell as the styling. The exterior styling is very subjective, some people like it, some people don’t on this carI’m not the biggest fan of it, but it’s better than most of the new cars.

  • @rootsmanuva82
    @rootsmanuva82 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I really liked the styling of the E63 6-Series when it came out because it closely resembled the Z9 concept from 1999. Then as the years went on I started to hate it. Now I’m starting to like it again. But then I compare it to the nearly perfect E24 and think never mind…

    I have an ‘08 650i coupe and I adore it. It’s basically a Baby-Bentley. Always loved the looks, sure it’s got a couple of weird angles but it’s all part of the character. I have the tan/aluminium interior and it’s a stunning place to be. The rear seats are usable by an adult for short journeys and isofix as standard means it’s practical. The boot on the coupe is huge.
    Give the engine lots of TLC and it’ll be generally reliable. The power is plenty, the car is damn quick, and I say that as a motorcycle rider. Economy is surprisingly good for such a big V8.

      But It’s not worth it, big bills are guaranteed if it goes wrong and honestly it’s inferior to a proper aftermarket suspension setup which is cheaper to repair, offers 1 less thing to go wrong and generally aftermarket setups can be fine tuned for far better handling and ride quality.
      Also they do go wrong and they tend to be difficult to find replacements for at a reasonable price.
