That`s a seriously imposing structure - and two pubs! The orange dog was a bit puzzling though... We enjoyed that slightly damp journey, thank you, and pleased to see the subs count steadily advancing :) You do deserve lots more.
Thanks. Nice to have the dog question answered in another comment. Dunno about how many subs I deserve, I suppose you just keep plugging away and see what happens as always 🤷♂️ But it's lovely that nice people watch and say nice things 👍
Lovely video. I like TPE and What a fantastic station building at Huddersfield. One journey i made this summer was Liverpool Lime Street to London Liverpool St. Then walked to Lime Sreet in The City. I did benefit from were heavily discounted travel as i worked on the railway, I’ve now retired. Till the next one.
Nice video as always. I enjoy these little rural hops, always something interesting to see like that river that was diverted over the tunnel entrance. Your ranger ticket gives us a promise of more rural hops to come perhaps...?!
Excellent vlog. You missed the famous cat in Huddersfield, Felix and Bolt. Next time should you join a narrowboat and travel the cannal under the train tunnel. What master pieces those tunnels are - how they managed to built them
Very wet day but still a very good video. Isn’t Huddersfield the home of famous station cats? Loved the way the water was redirected over the tracks. So much better than an ugly old bit of pipe.
Yes, it was a bit lucky that I was recording as we passed that water chute - with all the rain, some of the images out of the window weren't as good, but we did get the benefit of seeing the torrent of the river flowing over the railway. Thanks for watching another 👍
...and yes. I missed out on the station cats at Huddersfield. It was not the weather for cats mind you. I know mine would have been asleep under someone's desk in the weather. 🤣
The dog was a part of a charity event last year where the local hospice had all these dogs put around the kirklees. They were all painted by local schools and clubs. This dog was positioned outside the train station. The hospice at the end of the event auctioned the dogs off, and I assume the train station got the dog and gave him a home in the station.
Tremendous stuff. I always enjoy watching your videos because I always learn something. Specifically in this one, the correct pronunciation of Slaithwaite. For that I shall always be in your debt!
Victoria Station was a very nice station even before it was modernised. But by comparison with Piccadilly most stations will come off well. But I can't believe that I have been to station that you have not yet visited and such a gem as Liverpool Lime Street.
I was at Huddersfield Polytechnic on the early 1980s and have a soft spot for the area. The pubs you mentioned are meant to be pretty good and you might want to consider a visit to the famous Staybridge bar on the platform. How about a trip to Hebden Bridge ?
I have done railway pub crawls with mates from Leeds, which included those! There's lots of great watering holes at stations in the area, I was most impressed. Hmm... it is an idea, although I'm not sure that my monetisation status would be ok if I have a video where I deliberately get drunk on a railway pub crawl 🍺 Advertisers do like "wholesome" fare 😁 Thanks for watching 👍
Weirdly even though I lived in Huddersfield and I visited my parents regularly I have never been to Manchester Victoria. I was so pleased when they took down the plastic BR sign on the front of Huddersfield station. BTW in what would now be my "gap year" I worked at Standard Fireworks at Crossland Moor and took the bus from opposite the train station.
Back in those days, i suspect Victoria would have been a lot more grimey. I like what they have now done to the place. Likewise Huddersfield is rightly one of the gems of the network. Best wishes to you 👍
@@JohnnyHooverTravels Before they cleaned it up Huddersfield Station was black just look for pictures of it in the 1960s The funniest thing is that the Lion Chambers opposite the railway station when they were cleaning it up They found the lion statue was too fragile so it was replaced by a plastic lion and after fifty years the plastic lion hasn't discoloured in the same way as the rest of the building so it is very noticeable.
How about some rail journeys where you end up at a fabulous monument? For example I enjoyed that trip that ended up with a walk to Calstock viaduct. Suggestions could be Blackpool Tower, Angel of the North, Ribblehead viaduct, Grimsby Dock Tower, etc.
Love that! Between you and me, when I do a Settle and Carlisle video it would be rude not to break the journey at Ribblehead and have a look at the viaduct from down below. Also I was thinking about Blackpool, with its two stations and the tower. I know nothing of Grimsby dock tower so will look that one up too. Thanks for watching and for the ideas 👍
@@JohnnyHooverTravels The Dock Tower is another fabulous structure the Victorians left us, standing tall and proud at the mouth of the Humber. In any other part of the country it would be the jewel in the crown of a fabulous Harbourside development. Unfortunately, with it being Grimsby, we are still waiting for the levelling up money..!! 🤔
Great video Johnny, I agree with your comments about Huddersfield Station, Its frontage is more like a City Hall than a Station. Pity about the weather...😒
Thank you! I always find the different station designs fun to discover and Huddersfield really is straight out of the "banks and town halls" book of architecture.
I travelled on the Trans Pennine Express a few times in the late 90s and in 2004 from Manchester Airport to York and return. It's a lovely journey. However this looks like a much nicer train than those I travelled on! They had carriages where half the seats faced towards the front of the train and the other half faced towards the end. This led to much confusion at Manchester Piccadilly when people who had boarded at the Airport and had chosen to face forward suddenly found themselves looking at where they had been rather than where they were going when the train departed Manchester PIccadilly. It's a journey I'd love to do again - I really like York - but travelling by train is now very expensive in the UK.
Ah yes. A reversing train causes much confusion and consternation! My daughter lives at York, so I have had the pleasure of visiting there many times. Wrt the cost of train travel. There are still deals to be had, but I appreciate the world is not full of people like me who have the time to find them and the flexibility to make use of them! Thanks for watching 👍
Do like Manchester Victoria station. Very grand as you say however the only downside is that the actual platforms as quite enclosed and with mainly diesel trains, can get very loud!
I like this route it’s ok but u need to try Bradford interchange to blackpool north it’s a great route for countryside when you get near burnley Manchester rd and Preston and not so much on Bradford interchange to halifax
I don’t understand why that Transpennine Express are not going to use the Nova 3 Class 68 Mk5A anymore and are to be moved for storage. Or to be cascaded to Chiltern Railways as they want extra rolling stocks. I haven’t been to Huddersfield but I have been to Leeds and Scarborough on Transpennine Express.
I don't know either. but I suspect it will be something to do with either reliability, leasing costs or running costs. I'm sure they won't have factored in things like comfort though! Thanks for watching 👍
