CIVIL WAR BATTLE OF PERRYVILLE! REENACTMENT CANDIDS! HISTORY!

- The Civil War Battle of Perryville took place on October 8, 1862. This video was filmed at the reenactment, 160 years, and one day later. Many of us have seen Civil War battle reenactments, but what we often miss is all the activity before and after the actual battle. These moments give us insights on what our own ancestors experienced. We see the way they lived, the items they used, the foods they ate, and their day to day life. This video is a compilation of candid video clips that were filmed during the day of the reenactment. As you watch the clips, we encourage you to look into the soldier’s eyes, read their faces, wonder what they are thinking, and why they took arms for what they thought was right.
Like in the real battle, you will see the numbers are much larger in the Union Army than they are in the Confederate Army. This video is unlike any that we have ever done at Family Tree Nuts, and does not discuss the events and logistics of the battle. This video captures the experience of the soldiers themselves and we think will help you understand the experiences of your veteran ancestors.

This was great! I was in the crowd and did my best to film what I could. This was my first reenactment and didn’t know what to expect but I was blown away. I’ll be going to many more civil war battle re-enactments in the future
Awesome! Glad that you enjoyed the video and the reenactment. Make sure to also check out some pioneer & Revolutionary War re-enactments that happen all the time in this area as well!
Thanks for the Post. I appreciate you and the reenactors for keeping history alive. My great-grandfather and his brother's fought in the Iowa first regiment cavalry. They enlisted immediately after President Lincoln's call for volunteers after Fort Sumter and they fought for 3 years. They provided their own animals and clothes and weapons and probably food for that matter. Obviously they believe very strongly and what they were fighting for. I'm very I'm very proud of them
As you should be!!! Wonderful that you know that information.
I could almost see my 2x great grandfather Shade Caudill and his brother James amongst the grays when they marched by. ❤ Love the sights and sounds!
THIS IS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT! Seeing them marching by on the very group your ancestors fought, makes it so much more real.
Great job, thanks for doing this. It is wonderful to see old comrade in arms and since I couldn't be there, it is good to see the fellows in action. Thanks again!!!
Yes sir, glad to do it!
Thanks for the footage. I was there. I'm actually in the video at 9:28 in the light gray top hat.
Awesome! Glad that we got you in there! You were styling.
This was a great video Col. Carson. I have attended this re-enactment several times and one time, shared stories of female soldiers in the Civil War. It is a very historic place to visit. One of my former students, David (not real name) at WKU is a re-enactor. The students were assigned to teach a reading/social studies lesson with the class. He chose to share a ghost story that his unit experienced one year. It was quite scary. The Perryville Battlefield like most Civil War battlefields is haunted. Thank you for this unique and historic video.
Wow, it wound be awesome to catch up with the student and have them give their presentation on video!
Thank you. I have no idea where David would be at this point. He is probably teaching in some middle school. I will say that his stories were scary enough to make you sit on the edge of your seat. I will briefly share one part of one story that happened that night. David said that he was camped with 5 men (each in their own tent) in his unit on a rather isolated area of the battlefield. They were sitting around the campfire when suddenly all 5 men saw the belt buckles of at least 4 Union officers shining in the firelight around the campfire. This lasted about 5 minutes. The men had no idea who or what had happened. They kept asking "Who were these men? Why did they choose our campsite?" Scary!
Great video. Participated in this reenactment. Actually in the video at 9:27 with the black top hat.
Awesome! I went back and found you! Thanks for doing what you do.
By the way, Col. Carson, I loved the accompanying music with this video.
Well thank you ma’am, most would be amazed how much thought and effort that goes into these to make them what they are.
Thank you for filming this great reenactment. I was there with Washington artillery and the cannon fire was outstanding. It would be great if someone could get the artillery footage.
Yes sir, more on the way. We usually have multiple shooters but for this one we only had one. We plan to be at many more of these.
Love this! Great video. Gotta enjoy all the civil war content this channel produces
Thanks for your support! We have plans for much more on the way!
Nice to have met you Col Carson at the reenactment, we chatted in the Union Artillery camp .. Looking forward to seeing this video through your lense. *LIKED* the video pard.
Yes sir, glad to have met you and hope to have future collaborations!
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogy The filming and story line was very well done capturing the event without the battle.
@@1stminnsharpshooters341 Thanks! Much different than we normally do, but it does “take you there” in a sense.
My great-great granfather Richard Dial and his brother Philip fought here with the 86th Illinois. I can only imagine how miserable those tents were in the rain.
Wow, that’s wonderful that you know that. Have you had the chance to visit here?
I was there! It was a blast! Thanks to all the reenactors for being there. Thanks to the public, they were all very appreciative! Thanks for posting this video, really enjoyed it!
Yes sir! Thanks for doing what you do! Were we able to capture you in the video?

Yes ma’am, been there many times! We have a video from there made a few years ago, not the reenactment but a student at Centre College worked with us to do it in a project. I actually live in Richmond.
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogy WOW! That is good to know. I truly enjoy your videos. They are always well researched and your presentation is unique. I pray that you will keep up with this great work. Thank you so very much.
