I feel like I have never truly cared about my base in Terraria but this guide made me want to try something new on my next playthrough. Thank you so much!
POV you don't have magic storage mod Great house design ❤ A alternative house design (if this one doesn't fit your fancy) is by Salendrak video is called "Housing Basics (Terraria 1.4 Beginner's Guide Series)", it's the one I use for no mod playthroughs
@@DominusQuadrayeah sure magic storage is an absolute overpowered mod and should be banned, everyone who used it or is using it or will use it should be ashamed of themselves for wanting to save a little bit of time and having some nice convenience because this game cleary was not designed for comfortable convenience and you must play the game by its intended way and must completely remove the sandbox aspect of the game. I completely, certainly, surely, undoubtedly agree with your should-be-the-standard-for-everyone opinion and I wish you a good day.
I like using different chests instead of item frames, like an Ivy Chest for plants and a Water Chest for potions, it makes a much more compact storage area.
The chest naming feature is so underused. I dont even label my chest with itemframes I just name them and the name shows up when you hover over the chest. I usually also then use different types of chest to make it easier to distinguish.
Exactly this. If you alternate the chests and name them logically you eventually know exactly where you placed stuff. But perhaps it's more for the people who have a bit of ocd 😂
Dude this is a good base for pre hardmode and early hardmode you helped me a lot, also i got very good at building thanks to this and other buildings guide, thank you very much.
I love this! I'm always a sucker for efficient starting base but I never end up doing it because I can't really think of what I'd need on a fresh run. I like Tall Gates post-Skeletron instead of doors. When you start getting good mounts for horizontal travel you may want to enter in your house without having to drop from your mount, and Tall Gates let you that. The only problem with this is that you can't do the Door trick with the platforms that make zombies unable to open doors.. But after beating Skeletron, you get access to the Mechanic which makes you able to do simple wire contraptions and fix that problem easily. Just wire the trapdoors to levers, or use actuators to actually wall the gates basically. After you beat The Twins and/or The Destroyer, you can also craft Logic Sensors (Day) and (Night) to automate this. Just be sure to create a way to leave the house comfortably during the time the gates are closed
I would argue that using item frames as labels for your chests is a waste of space, I just simply rename my chests so that all you do is hover over the chest to see it's contents and after regular use you know instinctively what is stored where. Great video though, thanks 👊🏼
I do the same - crafting stations close together with chests above and below, however i build my base about 10 or 12 blocks above ground so wraiths/reapers don't get in.
Cool concept! I used to do something similar, then I switched to several separate crafting/storage areas for different things (combat, potions, general building/decoration, specialised) so I can have space for every station and not have infinite list of items every time I need to craft something. Plus, I usually would build my base a little bit higher up to avoid wraiths and other enemies that can go through blocks (those are really the only ones you should be careful about).
Personally, I find using item frames to mark chests to be space inefficient. So as an alternative, I use different kind of chests to label what items they hold (Even paint them for better recognizability)
What I do: Shape my base like a pyramid. Remove the point and make a little pocket for lava. My base is pretty wide on the bottom so I can fit two long rows of chests. On the foot of the pyramid I have chests suspended on a platform with all the stations on the bottom. The floor underneath only has enough space for chests and a torch every so often. I label my chests with the chest type and name. I make a designated place (in the basement) for all the plants to farm where also all the seeds, plants and potion making materials are found. If some materials are used for various things, I just keep another stack elsewhere in the storage.
Not a fan of item frames when you have access to different chest designs and can rename the chests. Also, there are multiple configuration to optimize your build station area. The one I often use only requires a hook onto a certain spot to practically gain access to all non-demon altar stuff. This includes crafting with water/honey/lava.
Ok this is very cool. I wanted this kind of "perfect base" for a long time, and I sort of made one, but it is much more complicated for practically the same functionality. The defense systems alone use like 3 different hoiks on each side lol.
@@DominusQuadra but sadly its pretty much needed If you want to be sane on a playthrough with content mods(played calamity with it and I basically spend hours organizing stuff)
@@welp-san9120 yea for some mods like calamity you never know if you might need the random junk you pick up everywhere and checking everything gets tiring. So just dumping everything in magic storage is the most convenient. Also without extra QoL mods you'd end up having a whole lot of crafting stations that'd take up a ton of space
personally I prefer to make my home base inside a marble biome since there are no enemies that spawn that are capable of phasing through walls. On top of that corruption doesn't go through marble.
I couldn’t believe my eyes, my current base is the exact same thing as this only bigger and not as optimized also ive been making all my storage rooms out 100% glass
you could use any base design for it I went for a Japanese style with the dynasty wood and it came out looking a lot better so customize it to your liking!
Really called me out with that example of what not to do 😭 how many saves do I have from before NPC happiness was introduced that look exactly like that…
I used to do it but the thing is that the NPC's around your base/arena will get rekt when you summon bosses around, especially bosses such as Eater of Worlds and similar
As if I'd even consider playing vanilla and deal with the crafting station ranges, after playing with closento a hundred mods (with one being Magic Storage). Nice video, though.
Me always leave a prison space for goblin npc just besides my crafting station.. sometimes i add another for guide prison Incase i forgot the recipe 😂😂😂😂😂
You can totally do it, yea! Tho, i like to have everything on sight without hovering the mouse over it, especially when it's getting more than 6-7 chest
Yea, just change them as the adamtite/titanium forge do have the same function as a normal forge. Thought it'd be self explaining, sorry for that! It's hard to find the middle ground when starting with youtube videos, as i try to avoid "overexplaining"
My guess is that it’s faster to identify the contents of each chest this way. Instead of having to hover over each one, you can quickly look over the different items instead. I think the ease of finding stuff is the trade off for all the potential storage space you lose with this strategy.
It's either this or that. I do like to label it with frames but you could also paint or name the chest. Or all together! :D Was also the first thing i realized after the video was uploaded, that i could have mentioned it.
Just use the storage mod. Chest storage is just not vital to the game whatsoever. If it took crazy rescorces to get chests that gained in size with expense. Than maybe then. But in the current state. Just use the mod. All it does is make the game less waistful.
I could send you my "perfect" base layout but i didn't find any socials on your channel, unfortunately. I'll just say that it's not perfect, breaks laws of physics, has less chests and uses no lava but still pefectly safe for events up until tier 3 solar eclipse, has npc acces and easy and safe entrances, again perfect for events Edit: you can also build it on day 1 and it will still be viable untill endgame

I just load up a bunch of barrels cause less material cost compared to chests but that's just me
Idk about barrels, but block swap does work for filled chests now! So you can always change their visual identity later!
My favorite pastime is visiting the bros server and organizing and naming chests.

For potions, i move my potion chest along with plant chest on my garden, because you need water for crafting so they're all in a seperate room
you can use a sink for water, and if you need, lava, water and honey, you could use a single block of each and it could work as well

swap places of workbench and anvil, as you can then place piggy bank on top of the workbench
