What a sweet, gentle, romantic & funny film. It's one of my 5 "drop what you're doing & watch it again" films. And I agree with what Carey Elwes wrote in a tweet, when the idea of remaking the film was being floated around: "There’s a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one.”

My husband and I were in Scotland for a wedding. I was turned and talking to friends when the wedding started. As the bride is walking down the isle, I’m looking at the groom and smiling. My husband leans to whisper something in my ear-“Marwige is what bwrings us togever today.” It was all I could do not to break out laughing as the priest looked JUST like the guy in the movie!

I was doing live-action role playing when this movie came out (almost nobody was doing LARP back then) and a group of people decided to go as the Princess Bride characters. One of them was, of course, Inigo Montoya. What the party didn't know was that the organizers decided to play along and put Count Rugen on the field. I happened to be lucky enough to be there when they met. The real shock on "Inigo's" face was hilarious.

Great movie, great cast, great fight scenes, great acting, great song & great director. My wife asked me to do something I have never done before. Rob Reiner was on fire as a director at that time. Great movie. It's a perfect combination of story, characters, humor (but not TOO much humor) and that most important thing that so many movies fail to capture: Heart.
I think the ending they ended up using was the best and I think they were right to cut what they cut out. And considering how old Carl Reiner (Rob's dad) was when he passed away I'd say there's a real good chance that the three of them CAN meet again in 25 years, which would be 2037 if we go by when this interview came out (2012).

*In the HISTORY of film making, I'd say that the "Adventure-Fantasy" is hardest to land but the most rewarding and amazing when done right. Princess Bride is among the best and takes it's place along with movies like, Labyrinth, Never Ending Story, Goonies, or even a, "Raising Arizona"(surreal more than fantasy). The fact that the great majority of the movie was live action and human characters was the crowning touch (degree of difficulty), and that it was a love story without being heavy handed made it one of a kind.*

Ah the sword fight scene - I still remember the cinema I watched it in. The thing I remember most of all was in the sword fight scene one shot was little wide and you could see the top of the matt painting and the rail it was on. My DVD release doesn't have it. I'm almost disappointed.

I wanted to name my son, Wesley, but the hubby was not a fan....It was my top choice...lol The thing about the Princess Bride is that it checks all the boxes...adventure, mystery, romance, comedy, drama...and it's one of the few movies of all time that makes you feel good watching it. Most movies these days are dark, depressing, and if they are adventurous, they aren't lighthearted. That's why I can watch it over and over again (and I generally hate to re-watch movies), and why everyone I know seems to love it.

I watch this movie again once every four or five years. I love it so much, I don't want to spoil it by overuse. Otherwise, I could watch it three or four times a year, and would have overdosed on it by the turn of the century. It's still fresh for me.
Not incidentally, Robin Wright is, as Rob Reiner says, the most beautiful woman in the world. Then and now. The face that could launch a thousand ships.

Funny you should say that ( "spoil it by overuse" ). I got to the point where I knew it so well, I had to take a break from it. That's when I discovered Goldman's ( or was it Morganstern's ) novel. It's hilarious ( introduction included ). The story is the same, but different. For instance, did you know Humperdinck was once engaged to a noblewoman with more hats than anyone in the region? At their wedding feast, the wind blew through the great hall, blowing off her hat, revealing her as bald. Humperdinck told her to feel free to run.

When it first came out on VHS we rented it. At that time we went to the video store at least twice a month to rent videos. So we watched for the first time and loved it so we bought the VHS tape of it. My Nana had never seen it though so when she was visiting, almost 20 years ago, we were deciding what movie to watch. We had it on DVD at this time so a bit of an upgrade, I have it digitally now though. So I suggested it and we watched it. She okay with it up until the wedding when Peter Cook, the Impressive Clergyman, turns around and starts with "Mawwiage.", my Nana started busting up. As he kept going she was laughing so hard she actually fell off of the couch onto the floor hysterically laughing. She was physically perfectly fine but she was just doubled over in laughter. I just remember that moment vividly when it comes to this movie because she passed away about a year later.

I was a student projectionist at the University of Louisville when we showed The Princess Bride, so I had the privilege of not only watching the movie, but building it from shipping reels, projecting it (I think three times), and tearing it down again. Another student labeled the exhibition reel cases "KISSING BOOK". We had a sort of backdoor arrangement with the distributor to get 35mm prints: at the time, most college theaters were limited to 16mm, because the distributor would make so little money off ticket sales.

The Princess Bride is one of the few films that both sexes of every generation enjoys and delights in! A wonderful film that I eagerly look forward to watching with my future children.
Much to my confusion, my guy has only partially seen it once. It was with me at a friend's house and he was unfortunately quite exhausted, so often struggled to stay awake. With us having children, I'm sure someday he'll see it again and often. lol
