    My little one has a hard time in public places especially with strangers. Recently we were on a plane and the closeness of others around him was a real issue. He cried most of the trip and I was alone trying my hardest to help him feel safe. I know it was unpleasant for other passengers to hear him crying constantly but the added looks of disgust only made the situation worse and harder for me to handle. You’re not alone!

      @@aussieautismfamily Hi thank you for posting this video. I was not able to have children but it has helped me to remember to be patient with parents of young children. It is very demanding and children do not play up just to get on others nerves. I would never stare or make unkind comments. I think you two are wonderful parents and your children are both beautiful.
      I have panic attacks and anxiety and shopping centres can get to me. I find the light too bright and the sounds too loud and I never go on planes I really could not.
      As an adult I know what it is like to feel scared, sick and terrified so it must be so much worse for your son. Hope all goes well for all of you. Best Wishes from Leicester UK.

    It’s only over recent years that I’ve found out my son is autistic, the meltdowns in shopping centres were epic, as a young child my inability to cope with him regularly had me in tears of frustration. I tried to return to work but childminders kept refusing to have back, they feared for the safety of the other children, he was excluded from primary school and two senior schools on behavioural grounds. I spent so many years knowing there was something wrong but nobody would listen, other parents blamed me the Drs, Social Workers & Teachers simply said “Some children are born naughty”. My son is 45 now and still can’t deal with social situations. His life, and many other older peoples lives has been blighted by this condition not being recognised when they were children. Thank goodness this condition is now recognised and there is help available for thee children and their parents.

    Your little man is adorable. What a sweet face. Anyway, I have a nephew with Autism. He is an adult now. Lives in a group home. His meltdowns look like your sons. His meltdowns changed when he got older and also his vocabulary. My sister worked with him all the time. I did also since I babysit for her. He had a aid when he stared school. After so many years of help from people who specialized in Autism he no longer needed his aid. Now I have a grandson who was 2 last month. I am 98 % positive he is Autistic too. My daughter, I think, is in a bit of denial about him. I got her to ask his doctor, but he didn't do a thing about finding out for sure. He just looked at my daughter and said he is fine. I dont know how to help now. I can't keep pushing her. I know the earlier they diagnose him the better he will do. I just don't know what to do next. I do have a question, did or does your son get extremely upset if you pick him up and try to keep him with you? My grandson freaks out. Sorry for being so,long winded. Also, I realize you probably don't have time to answer me and I understand. Good luck and God bless.

      That is so hard lovely! You finally got her to the doctor and they told her he doesn’t have any difficulties. I would just keep an eye out, it’ll be hard to convince her but I would try for a second opinion! A clinical psychologist or a good reviewed professional !

    You should try some sensory headphones for him! Sometimes they dont like the feeling of them on their heads, but other times they like the noises blocked out and can be calmer and have more fun

    We don't have a diagnosis for our two year old son but he behaves very similar to your son. My son loves hold people though. We are having him tested. I have spent many hours in the bathroom at shops trying to calm him down. I know in my heart that my big guy is on the spectrum, I have to remind my husband that Ryan isn't throwing a fit he is having a melt down. It's hard because the other members of our family do not want admit that there is something special about him. I always get told he doesn't need testing he is a normal busy two year old boy....

    I hate going to the shopping centre with my son by myself as he hates to sit in the trolley and wants to walk. He hates being touched yet old ladies like to touch his hair as he is a red head and they love his hair. It's frustrating and they are so judgemental when he gets overwhelmed and I have to help him through it.

    Autism or not!

      My daughter was recently diagnosed with sensory processing disorder and now I understand the reason of her meltdowns 😪 and you said something so important "don't stare" yyyeeeess!! As mothers with children with these types of issues we already have so much stress/anxiety so that on top of that people staring at us as if we were bad moms.

    • @SaamMcKenzie
      @SaamMcKenzie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Layla doesn’t have autism, but I’ve had a fair few tantrums happen in public. Most of the time I can talk to her and calm her down but I remember one time I just had to leave, because I had no idea what to do and people wouldn’t stop staring!

    • @aussieautismfamily
      @aussieautismfamily  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it suddenly all makes sense when you get that diagnosis. Before Jacob's diagnosis I was rethinking my parenting and everything!
      The stares are the WORST and make the whole situation more stressful. I hope your daughter is doing well :)
