I imagine this song playing while you are relaxing underwater on a seabed, not very deep, not very high, around 6.00 AM. The sun's rays hit the water, which creates some light in the still partly dark sea. You are in the right spot, in the middle of this transition. While you relax, you see that on one side you can see the seabed with many corals in the distance and lots of tropical and non-tropical fish, and on the other you can see the seashore and the beach. There are many fishes swimming beside you. And you are relaxing enjoying the moment and reflecting on your whole life. This song makes you relax so much that you fall asleep at one point. This song is literally the representation of a relaxing and funny summer. I hope I can have a vibe like that in real life instead of writing it this summer.

For years I never understood why this song was so highly-regarded as an all-time great vgm track. It felt so... empty. Last year, I felt a little blue and a remix (Qumu) of Dire Dire Docks happened to come on. I leaned back and just soaked it in, and everything just clicked. I finally got it. This is one of the best video game songs of all time.
POV: You are on your Winter break in January of 1998 and its your Birthday today. Its a Saturday and you've just woken up. You load up the Nintendo 64 and put in the Mario 64 cartridge. You load up single player and play all morning long, Happy that its the holidays. Mom comes in and saw that you are playing Mario. She wants to see what it is and she is fascinated. Later its time for Cake and you think to yourself 'This is the best day ever...' as you blow out the candles. Its now 2024 and you look through your old stuff and see your old N64 and the Mario cartridge. You plug it in to the old TV and play for while and get distracted with what you were doing. All of a sudden a flash from 1996 comes into memory. Your 11th birthday...
I always find it funny how this theme is often referred to as Dire Dire Docks' theme, and yet 9 times out of 10, most people will first hear this song when they enter the Jolly Roger Bay for the first time.
Lyrics from man on the internet: We are the sum of our reflections in the water All we can be Beneath the light we see the shapes of all our best lives In the dreaming So join with us today We’ll sit along the bay And share the dreams together Life cannot be loved without play And you will find your beauty shines back from the water Just to make your day Beneath the light you’ll see what your best life can offer If you find your dreams Medicas adhibere aquam x3 Take this balm Lie still and calm No one shall harm your dreams We are the sum of our reflections in the water All we can be Beneath the light we see the shapes of all our best lives In the dreaming So join with us today (Medicas adhibere aquam x4) We,ll sit along the bay And share the dreams together Life cannot be loved without play And you will find your beauty smile back from the water (Take this balm) Just to make your day (Lie still and calm) Beneath the light you’ll see what your best life can offer (No one) If you find your dreams (Shall harm) Your dreams (Your dreams) (End)

Don't worry, because it's also tough for me, for my cat Hanzel, had passed away back in the start of last year for an unkown reason and I loved him super much, but now It's felt diffrent without him.
In the actual game, after the first loop the song will change between lacking the percussion and having it when you go in and out of the water. It adds a lot to the atmosphere as you swap from swimming and platforming. Much of the brilliance with Super Mario 64 is in small nuances like this.
Bro so many memories I remember when I would play Mario 64 I would go to the water picture then I would just sit and listen to this music 😢😢😢 #mario64 #90skids
This game really was something special. I remember going in to my local Blockbuster when they had the game systems out. Seeing this game blew my mind! The graphics were just so cool! I was like this looks too real to be a video game! Simpler times back then. Oh how I miss them.
this song is the reason i want to own a convenience store when i get older. just so i can play music like this secretly. it fits the setting while still being hilarious
Reading people's posts about their dreams coming true and reliving their childhoods through the same music is beautiful to me. ❤ Good luck in life to all of you! 🥰
Everything about this track hits different. The vibe was outside of what we'd heard before we got to Dire Dire Docks. The chord progression is so fluid and relaxing, it SOUNDS like being beneath the waves in an underwater world, and the best part was the transition of the musical elements based on where you were in the stage. The music evolved with your gameplay, as the closer you got to the sunken ship, the more parts played at once. It made you want to explore to hear if there were any other versions of the song that you just hadn't heard yet. More games do this kind of thing now, but I would argue this was a first for many. Still one of the best pieces of music in video games, period.

Very wise application of this song. I used this a lot during my difficult times in med school, and it helped me get to where I am today. Only problem was that I stopped using it during these even harder times. Thank you for the advice on how I can use this music to help me on a daily basis.

This xylophone makes you feel like your swimming in the deep blue sea, just like you do in this amazing game and level. Nostalgia.
Sounds like a warm loving track from a family sitcom from the 80s.
I hope Michael McDonald sings lead.
Right? And then the part at 0:42 reminds me of the opening of a ballad song from the late 1980s/early 1990s
12 years ago was fun
I remember the 90s like it was yesterday opening up the n64 and playing Mario 64 this music hits different flash to the past ❤
I always find it funny how this theme is often referred to as Dire Dire Docks' theme, and yet 9 times out of 10, most people will first hear this song when they enter the Jolly Roger Bay for the first time.
@@kadupse i heard it first in the secret room in the castle lol
I want to sit on a dock at night with no one around and listen to this.
Same dude
Same🖤
This melody is so nostalgic. Mario 64 will always be in our hearts with happiness. Gret game! 👌
This is one of the most wholesome comment sections on youtube and I'm here for it.
Lyrics from man on the internet:
We are the sum of our reflections in the water
All we can be
Beneath the light we see the shapes of all our best lives
In the dreaming
So join with us today
We’ll sit along the bay
And share the dreams together
Life cannot be loved without play
And you will find your beauty shines back from the water
Just to make your day
Beneath the light you’ll see what your best life can offer
If you find your dreams
Medicas adhibere aquam x3
Take this balm
Lie still and calm
No one shall harm your dreams
We are the sum of our reflections in the water
All we can be
Beneath the light we see the shapes of all our best lives
In the dreaming
So join with us today
(Medicas adhibere aquam x4)
We,ll sit along the bay
And share the dreams together
Life cannot be loved without play
And you will find your beauty smile back from the water
(Take this balm)
Just to make your day
(Lie still and calm)
Beneath the light you’ll see what your best life can offer
(No one)
If you find your dreams
(Shall harm)
Your dreams
(Your dreams)
(End)
WOW A WHOLE PARAGRAPH BUT ZERO LIKES LETS FIX THAT

@@Firefxiry_6486 thanks!
Sang along and it fits so well! These should be the official lyrics for it
@@cozybug5109 agreed.
this makes me cry of nostalgia, i remember when sm64 introduced me to gaming, this game will forever capture my heart forever ❤
I remember playing this on d.s as luigi and every time i went to dire dire docks just calmed me down after a day of school
This is my lullaby no matter how old I get.
That part with the added beats really hit different tho
Why is music in water levels alwaya so damn emotional.
Holy cow, I can’t believe the guy actually recorded the song and held his breath underwater for 30 minutes!!!
Got the 64 for Christmas. Dark and snowy outside. Fire going in the chimney. Exploring this game in my pajamas. Not a care in the world. Miss you Dire Dire Docks!
Music from this game reminds me of my dad since he bought it for me. Love you, dad. RIP.
RIP your dad 🙏🙏🙏
RIP
(i will strangle anyone who says "fatherless")
Rip 😢🙏 😿it must be difficult and tough for you right now.
Don't worry, because it's also tough for me, for my cat Hanzel, had passed away back in the start of last year for an unkown reason and I loved him super much, but now It's felt diffrent without him.
Rip sorry for you😢
This song is very hydrating
In the actual game, after the first loop the song will change between lacking the percussion and having it when you go in and out of the water. It adds a lot to the atmosphere as you swap from swimming and platforming. Much of the brilliance with Super Mario 64 is in small nuances like this.
One of the best tracksof videogames, its just ART
Nostalgia
Childhood memories 😢😢💔
Je ne connais pas beaucoup Mario 64 mais j’adore toutes ses musiques !
Bro so many memories I remember when I would play Mario 64 I would go to the water picture then I would just sit and listen to this music 😢😢😢 #mario64 #90skids
Poseidons curse 🌊
adios charles
Man I used to play this game on my ds in kindergarten, man this + reading rainbow hits so hard
Always gotta love Mario!! Wohoo!!
Only 90s gamers will understand.
Any gamer should understand. I'm 15 and am halfway through playing SM64
Now I Can Drown in Peace ✌️
Just use the oxygen in water to breathe. Easy.
Reading people's posts about their dreams coming true and reliving their childhoods through the same music is beautiful to me. ❤ Good luck in life to all of you! 🥰
Good Luck for you too.
Beautiful and comforting!
Much better than that titanic song
the power of mixolydian

😢😢😢 thank you for the childhood memories
daily meditation everyone, check in. just used this to meditate and be mindful/grateful of my life, and realized the extreme stressors aren't so extreme. trying to do this every morning (or evening, your preference)
Very wise application of this song. I used this a lot during my difficult times in med school, and it helped me get to where I am today. Only problem was that I stopped using it during these even harder times. Thank you for the advice on how I can use this music to help me on a daily basis.
The best music for rest and relaxation time. Theraputic IMO!

I hated the part where you have to explore the shipwreck of Jolly Roger Bay in a submarine before it implodes
I don’t get if
@@kylebroflovski9690 they are making fun of the people who lost their lives in the OceanGate accident
that was 7 months ago? dang...
Ahh Mario music is so good
Much simpler times
Once the beat starts going, it's motivation to me! I always wanted to know how it feels to swim the way Mario can swim! Mario is so peaceful when he swims!
Motivation?
I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING-
It's funny, even though I can't remember an exact memory. this song reminds me of my time with my grandma.
these comments are so heartwarming to read, i wish i was there in that time with you guys.
This song reminds me of my time working at Toys R Us in Surrey, BC back in the 90s. This song would play on the N64 display kiosk and when the store was slow or quiet this would resonate in the electronic dept. It was soothing.
I wish he would come back. Never comes back. Never comes back. Never comes back. Never comes ba
This feels like music I would hear in a dream . This game came out long before me but it still invokes nostalgia
wha the hell? my dreams don't have music
@@mr.someone5679 same but it's like the same vibe as being lost in a dream
Exactly nostalgia
I’m going to throw my speaker into the public pool and blast this
if this plays at my funeral I will be crying.
