I'm so glad I'm not alone in loving Season 8. There's a touch of S1 in S8 when it comes to plot, atmosphere, budgetry constraints etc. It's a great bookend season.
Come to think of it, I think I latently picked up on this, too! I thought of S1 a lot during this. Probably due to a bookends sort of thing of course, but also because of how Coop's role in the season sort of reminds me of Andy's role in S1. You don't normally see a couple turn out so well and just clearly so _right_ for each other across the span of one season, and yet, with both of them, it just works.
That's so true about the similarities, I've always felt like Billy is another version of Prue, a super witch, and she's just coming into her powers, it's like they not only gave us Prue back, sorta, but also made all of the Charmedones appear together for the very last season
Great video! I've never understood the S8 hate. The Ultimate Power plot was a unique idea for the final season, even though it was rushed. I love this episode too; I wish Charmed had done more self-contained, character-driven episodes like this. I think it's interesting what you said about Piper becoming an optimist as she gets older. I always thought her personality getting angrier was a prolonged PTSD reaction to Prue's death, much like how Grams was after Allen died.
Ooh that's a very good point. And once seeing how Leo could be returned to her, Phoebe and Paige could be saved and Billie redeemed may have jogged her optimism a bit
Prolonged PTSD is a very interesting perspective I never considered. I started watching the show in S5 and got used to badass snarky Piper and I always found it quite jarring going to S1 and seeing this meek, nervous energy Piper. I always just said to myself that it's because she needed to become the big sister so she had to step into the role. But actually she didn't. She could have just easily remained relatively the same like Phoebe and still be as formidable as she was when Prue was alive. Unless ofcourse like you say, she's suffering a prolonged PTSD following the death of her sister. I love that youve given me a different perspective. Thank you. 😊
Offtopic : I just wished Christie's death was a lil more elaborated or dramatic. The scene was too simplistic. I'd expect a lot of gymnastics & magic effects also a lot of fire b4 her death tho...this girl was too annoying and evil to die that easy😂
The Jung and the Restless is one of my fav season 8 episodes. And I actually like Billie and Christy and the story told. I’ve been watching Charmed 25 years out of my 30 year life and watching these videos makes me realise how smart the writers and directors actually were in terms of storytelling.
You know i kjnda like Sandra, she was the only decent and human like elder. Even when leo gave up his powers she was there asking them not to give up hope and now after zola she was the one who came down to have a civil talk with a witch to whom her kind owes almost everything, plus the seas7 finale sandra was there to comfort them before the big fight and now she came down to gave piper some advice as an upper level heavenly force of good to another. Say what ever you want about the elders bcuz its true but sandra had potentials.
I really did like Sandra. I forget if she lived or died. But I’m glad she was the Elder we saw a lot of. People like her make me believe in Leo wanting to be an Elder.
Rushed or not, Victor Webster is one fine azz man that definitely delivers his Coop lines very well emotionally to Pheobe. He and Alyssa Milano make a nice-looking couple in real life too. They both have flavor!
I honestly don't see what ppl like in the pairing. I literally switch off when they come on the screen. Even Jason was better and more believable, admittedly probably because the actors were actually dating and breaking up in line with the sequence in the show.
Wonderful recap as per usual. You bring up an interesting point about Coop and Phoebe and their relationship being a lot less dramatic and turbulent than other relationships portrayed on screen. I actually think it would have been great if Coop had been introduced in season seven after phoebe regained her premonition powers. not just to help her find love but to be a friend and confidante and help her back on the right path. it would have given them more time to build the relationship as they definitely had a lot of chemistry.
15:11 whats funny is that theres a video on Twitter with holly talking about the gag reels of the show and alyssa had gases during this scene and they couldn't film the scene without silly problems and yet they sell out a very sisterly family cozy conversation as sisters very touching and agreat way to end the episode. Also phoebe is very affectionate and relatable in this episode
Season 8 isn't my ultimate favorite, especially since i don't like endings (even though their series finale is of the best I've ever seen) but i will say everyone evolved into their best version of themselves here which i adore. Not only in personality but in looks as well. You see them really settled into their sense of self.
While I have mixed feelings about Season 8, I always felt like the whole thing was an homage to the series itself and this episode definitely continues that homage theme. It didn't feel like retreading older storylines or plot points. It actually felt like updating them or bringing them more into the present at the time. This was definitely one of my favorites of the whole season. The battlelines are drawn here.
So you have covered at least one episode of every season. Congratulations ! Nice video. I think season 8 gets too much hate from fans. It's not on the same level as season 4 but I like that arc. The last scenes of "Kill Billie vol.2" are ones of my favorite across the show. I'm looking forward to watching your next anatomy of an episode.
I really liked Season 8! Billie and Christie were interesting and the stakes had meat to them, IMO it wasn't just retreading the "we want a normal life" plot.
I agree about Coop, HMC did too. He was the perfect pair for Phoebe aside from Cole. It’s just that I wish we met him before season 8 so that we could see their relationship’s actual progression. Plus, remember in the earlier season Phoebe initially fell for a Cupid, too, so it wasn’t that much of a surprise that she ended up with a Cupid.
like it’s been mentioned in the comments,, the Ultimate Power storyline, Phoebe and Coop and Paige and Henry were rushed // what i, too, wanted to see was some more character development around how and why Billie and Christy became the ultimate power - something about it never felt quite earned when I compare it to the Charmed Ones evolving in power and sisterhood and relying on their intelligence, practical skills, strategizing and experiences, thus earning the title of being the most powerful force of Good (even tho the writers could’ve taken the lazy route and simply relied on the fact of telling us they were who the fuck they were in first episode) ion know // I think B & C’s powers were cool and had that umph potential; telekinesis, projection : telepathy, pyrokinesis - but i think they missed some opportunities to, again, show why they’re so powerful - for ex: they potrayed Telepathy in season 6 as this omega level (or almost) power, allowing the user to tap into other powers - I would’ve liked to see Christy tapping into the Charmed One’s active powers - and i think they wrote Billie as a bit overpowered with the projection (Piper needed Coop’s ring and then help from Grams and Patti to travel accurately back in time to Phoebe and Paige, Billie needed only herself-yes, coached by Dumain) and when she was introduced she seemed already to have MAJOR fucking juice and skills and yet we’re to believe she’s a noobnoob and needs training from the Charmed Ones i realize practicing one’s powers and delving into the other layered aspects of magick are different skillsets but i feel what i feel about how confident and sassy and badass Billie seemed upon her introduction - i also wanted to see specific backstory around B & C getting their powers and learning to control them i guess the budget really affected what they could get into,, nonetheless i’m satisfied with Season 8 and the whole sendoff of the Series
Billie's need for training wasn't to do with power level, it was skill. She was too reckless and overconfident - in her first two episodes, she lets most of her demons escape because she's too busy playing with them. In her third episode, she recklessly reads a spell out loud and causes an explosion. The sisters are teaching her how to use her brains rather than brawn, and when to pick her battles, because they know all too well that an overconfident witch becomes a dead witch sooner or later
@@BetterWithBob this is why retrospecting Charmed is better with you Bob // i agree with this, I think i forgot about how flip she was about vanquishings and skill, strategy, technique, discipline, maturity and temperance are what our Halliwells taught her - still would have liked to see development that makes me believe she earned the power level she housed by the end of the series
To be fair, Christie and Billie clearly parallel Wyatt and Chris. But in Wyatt's case, he was born to one of the most powerful witches of all time and a man who was briefly an Elder, and Christie and Billie are just.... like that? idk. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with it, but in a show that loves to explain why certain people are OP, it does feel a little odd. I also wish they'd planted something about this Ultimate Power sooner. With the amount of prophecies this show has... and time travel... there should've been at least some mention.
I always thought that the charmed ones were the most powerful witches because of the power of three & their collective power, not their individual active powers. That’s why I think they meet people who are more powerful than them as individuals but nothing is more powerful than the power of 3.
Bob, don’t you EVER apologize for the length of your video. You eloquently gave an excellent review of the eight season whether controversial or not. You are absolutely right about the last five episodes of Charmed. In my opinion, the last five episodes definitely made up for the start of the season. Thanks for mentioning the Quentin Tarantino reference. Also, thanks for mentioning the parallel between Piper going up against Billie as she did with the Queen of The Underworld, Pheobe. PS: I wonder how Paige’s charge, Mikelle, would have done in the cancelled spin-off if it were to happen. I like her.
Love this episode. Finally showing us what the sisters REALLY want. It’s a calmer episode and it feels extremely somber. Sad. As if their dreams are always going to stay this way. A dream. And I loved also Older Leo is the same actor who we do see in the future. So in a rewatch it’s a really nice nod into believing what is going on. Phoebe on the kitchen floor trying to comfort her daughter. The daughter she’s been desiring since Season 7. I’m just glad Charmed exists. Love all seasons. And I’m a mega defender of Season 5! It was a much needed sigh of relief after witnessing Season 4. The amount of sadness and dread and cruelty inflicted on the sisters. It felt like a vacation especially when we know in Season 6 Leo and Piper will break up and then we got a lot to unpack with Chris.
The whole episode felt like it was addressing critics of the later years of the show. 15:12 Piper's response here was something like, "there. I froze someone. You happy?" I wonder if that was also a direct response to critics who said she stopped using her freezing powers as the years went by.
Excellent use of the Sabrina the Teenage Witch sound bite 🙂And Buffy S6 is my 2nd favourite season too, I loved it since I first watched it as it came out and when I discovered the internet I was surprise at how split the audience was over it. Also I really need to re-watch the latter seasons of Charmed cos they're the ones I remember the least and would be interested to know how my opinion has changed over time. Thanks for the video!
I didn’t hate season 8. It’s a better ending then most tv shows get. Kaley cucuo’s performance just grated on me for some reason. She’s a wonderful actress but I felt like she had one setting on how she delivered lines in charmed.
Let's all agree that Charmed is a fantastic show and we deserve a reunion show with the original cast! I refuse to compare it with the reboot we got because it's not even in the same class.
I disagree witches abusing their powers seem to be punished by losing the powers theyve abused in their future lifes. And christys death was never planned from billies standpoint she just defended herself
@@BetterWithBob love the channel thanks for the response. I wish I could explain my position better, however that spell made sure Phoebe had a chance of at least being good in her future life I guess I wanted the same for Christie!
@@the502dude7Or. they could have bound her powers like they did with the evil enchantress. Maybe Billie could have used that to try and snap her out of her brainwashing
I also love season 8. I will comment on Phoebe as you focused a bit on her. I think Phoebe's issue throughout the entire series is balance. She is always struggling to have a balance of romance, career and witchcraft. When Paige is the best with balancing her life. She had an issue during season 6 but she quickly sorted it out. Also, Paige is the one that was always in love with mortals and she always had the best luck when she revealed her secret. They always took it well. Phoebe however, had a really bad luck with romance. Even Jason Dean who was arguably her best match, did not accept her as a witch.
I do really like the idea of the last season and definitely the last few episodes after a rewatch are pretty damn good I just can't get over Billy and Christy's subpar to straight up bad acting only having a few legit good moments I also can't get over how quickly and how easily both Billy and the magical community turned their backs on the Charmed ones... Well with Billy I do get it more she's still infuriated with the magical world and the idea of being a bad ass witch plus Christy is a huge blind spot but the magical community? I get why they did it but the magical community turned on the Charmed ones waaayyyyy to fast and waaaayyyy to easily I could maybe buy some of the community turning their backs but not all of it.
It was a bit hard to watch but I feel like the groundwork was already there for them to do so, and it just about worked as a sort of last straw, since that leprechaun was already annoyed with Paige in Twelve Angry Zen, and they'd suffered losses in the S5 and 7 finales
@@BetterWithBob Yeah the leprechauns the fairies and maybe even the nymphs though I think with them death is natural so eh but I could give an expectation to those three factions cause they were directly affected but the entire magical community is a hard sell for me.
I love your videos sooo much. I get giddy when j see when I see that you posted. I am having a hard day they really 😊help me relax I just hope you keep going and expand your catalog so I can never stop watching lol
Please some more of the beloved season 3. Perhaps “ Power Outage”? So many excellent episodes . Always loved “Sight Unseen” for what a badass Prue is, “ Sleuthing with the Enemy “?Thank You .
Season 8 plot was pretty nice imo 1) What they did with Leo: I know the budget forced that, but the way they use him as a motivation for the final confrontation is nice. And being the first and only moment they could stopped death shows how incredibly powerful they have become 2)Bringing back the importance of being sisters as the base of their power (power of three and ultimate power) 2) Having Paige's charge as their enemy is actually something they havent done before 3) Develope their inner desires to start the season and teaching Billie the craft (nice for the final season) as well as being the reason Christie uses to put them against esch other 4) Phoebe's journey after losing her powers. She is portrayed in a more mature way, at first anxious to have her family and daughter from the Utophy vision, and having her "love block" from past relationships, but then focused on Billie finding her sister and the final confrontation Since Paige gets more powers (healing remote orbing levitation) and Piper is shown as the most powerful (could summon Elders, Avatars and even the Angel of Destiny, or killed a triad member with a couple of blow ups) Phoebe still had less active powers. The point is she stopped needing them. She was free to use magic and not be obsessed with it
I really love Season 8! I love the Storyarc of Season 8, i Love Billie and even Christy, i like her. She's is an Antagonist, but i really like her. and "The Jung & the Restless" are one of my Favorite Episodes ♥
Honestly, I don’t really hate any seasons or episodes. A small nitpick that I have with the Ultimate Power storyline is that they don’t explain why Billie and Christie were as powerful as the Charmed Ones. Might have been nice if they added a third sister of their own to counter the Halliwell’s but that could be due to the Power of 3 Blondes episodes they previously made.
I think it was meant to be inferred that because their mother's magic skipped her generation they got the powers she should have had as well, so they had enough for three witches
Omg yes! I have been saying this for years if they were truly as powerful as the charmed ones it just would’ve made better since to have them be 3 girls rather than just 2 cuz without it the whole thing just seems convoluted in the grand scheme of who they should fight in the finale
@@BetterWithBobI also like that in addition to that the comics later explain that Prue, after her death, was in a sense dragging down the power of three since she was still holding on to the destiny and that’s why the sisters continued to struggle against a lot of later villains because their power wasn’t as potent as it would be with three witches vs three and technically a spirit splitting it.
Season 8 is one of my favorite seasons not as much as season 4 and 3 though more 4. I really was intrigued by how christy made their dreams seem bad. Also kaley cuoco mentioned in big bang theory sometimes her friend christy. Probably a reference to her role here
Christy being so young would also mean she and Billie have a young person's viewpoint on selfishness. The Charmed Ones being older and more experienced in life mean they can understand rational selfishness
For me, Season 8 got better upon rewatch. I definitely had my gripes when it first aired mainly the fact that Darryl had to be axed from the show and Leo had to be written out for the last half. I do appreciate the freshness that Billie brought to the table and I was fine with the Billie and Christy Ultimate Power plot. This was definitely one of the better episodes of the season and one of the few from Season 8 that I will actually rewatch.
Glad to see a S8 video. Keep up the great work. Regarding my opinion of S8. I have to admit that I wasn't a fan of it the first time I watched it. But that most likely has to do with the fact that I still was quite young and started the series from somewhere around S7. But now that I'm an adult and have seen the sisters go trough the entire series, I appreciate season 8 a lot more.
There seems to be a growing appreciation for it now. Before I did my big series wide video last year, I came across this article praising it: collider.com/why-charmed-season-8-is-good/
I always enjoy your takes even when I am not in complete agreement. It's just nice to see someone else's point of view. I am learning to appreciate season 8. I didn't mind Billie. In fact I like her. I found her being so powerful coming out of nowhere but I did enjoy the character. My criticism is about Christie. I just feel it was rushed. I think my criticism of later seasons and why I enjoyed the Prue years so much was because this show begins being a show about sisters who became powerful witches and it was about their bond of loving and knowing each other as much about the magical bloodline. Particularly with Prue and Phoebe who were just alike and envied the role the other had. The resemblance and chemistry of the actresses doesn't change the fact that they were virtual strangers to each other. But this was a good episode.
You know, I think if it wasn't for your video, I wouldn't revisit Season 8. I remember when it was first released, I thought this was the worst season of Charmed. However, you've made valid points that I've begun to notice as I re-watch the last few episodes. Oooh also would you do an Analyze on Wyatt and Chris? I've always wondered if Wyatt's introduction was almost a jump the shark because I've felt the sisters had more to develop before a child was introduced. (We've heard this before about children being added to shows. The idea that the show loses it steam.)
I actually think Wyatt added something new to the show, since Piper already spent the previous season wanting a child, and it felt like a natural progression for her to have one. And it was cool that now we see a mother as this cool asskicker in a time when that was still not done. Piper felt as though she developed enough to have a child, since she'd already married and started her own business, and assumed the role as lead witch. She'd matured enough to become a mother. Phoebe on the other hand needed to do a lot more maturing before finally becoming one lol
@@BetterWithBobI would have liked it if she could have matured beyond the advice column and into being a therapist for the last 2 seasons. Maybe then we'd have been able to spend some time with her husband and daughter.
I have to say the Casting Department did a fantastic job in picking Victor Webster who was a series regular in Mutant X who had the power of Electricity like Season 3 Cole.
In season eight it was rushed I think they wanted season 8 finale so it could be done yeah but Billie she was naive since she found Christie she should have known how long Christie was with Demons because she should have question Christy how did they treat her so there wasn’t any flashback Christie with the Demons If only there was more to the story while she was kidnapped by Demons Christie probably they had to be a prophecy who knows but it was rushed Season 8
@@BetterWithBob oh it’s obvious then they had projects and it was so sad that the elves and the leprechauns and The Nymphs including all those mythical creatures that believed in them turned their back on them I just hope they made up
I just love this Series. I always describe them as almost perfect because let's be honest. What's 100%, my favorite is and always will be Piper. I think Holly did a great job bringing Piper into life. Rose aka Paige is also a very great character and has in no way made the series “worse” or anything like that. Of course, some things could have been done better, especially when it comes to Prue, but we all know what' was going on... the last season isn't that bad either, even if I avoid it in my 1000 repetitions because I just don't want to that the ends. But honestly, as much as I like Kayley Cuco, from various productions, Billy is not one of them. The Charmed ones are always judged and referred to as themselves and so on and immediately but maybe not every time, but very often I just see them as human beings people who don't want to sacrifice their lives for this world for evil. And I think that's more than self-evident, since they're just human beings, and you witches found out much later. Apart from that, there are so many magical beings, but very often they just relied on them. No matter what they are going through, whether it was a bereavement or they were better, no one cared, but the main thing is that the girls ALWAYS have to help and risk their lives.Unfortunately, Billy had to learn the hard way, just like the girls often had to, I don't just mean the loss of Prue. also that of the parents, mother dead father leaves the family, death of grandfather, love interests, husbands, unborn babies not least friends and of course innocent people who they couldn't save. If that doesn't do something to you, then I don't know what will. You should also never forget that Billy came to them and that without the three of them she would be dead. And then complaining at the end because the girls let them onto the Demonos seems somewhat paradoxical and unnecessary to me.
Huh. Maybe I am off here, but: Jung is the German word for Young. That's what I thought of the first time I read the title of that episode. As a German, I just had to squeeze that in. Anyway, this is a great video, I love those episode discussions!
Carl Jung wrote a lot on dream psychology, and his most famous idea is that humans all share a common psychic structure, which would be why the sisters were in one collective dream world as opposed to separate ones
I don't think I'd have the time to do a video any time soon but I can summarise some thoughts: *The two part opening is the best season premiere across the entire series *Tara really comes into her own as a character, acting as a surrogate sister to Dawn and becoming Buffy's friend *Due to less censorship on the UPN, Willow and Tara get to act more like a couple *The magic as drugs arc I actually like *Letting Buffy fall very far as a character was interesting to me, and her turning to Spike for comfort was a scary kind of relatable *Episodes like Once More With Feeling, Tabula Rasa, Smashed, Wrecked, Older and Far Away and the three part finale are all top quality *The Dark Willow storyline is the best *It's the one season where Xander isn't annoying, until Hell's Bells at least *The "life is the big bad" theme I find really powerful
I'm one of the many that don't like Christy and Billie. However, I completely understand why Billie will turn against the Charmed Ones and think they are selfish once she found Christy. Since her entire life she was searching for her sister and was not allowed to talk about magic or what happened because her parents refused to even acknowledge it. I'm going to be honest, I skip through most of the scenes with Billie and Christy in it. The thing I liked about the Christy narrative is how easy it is to succumb to Stockholm Syndrome or be completely brainwashed after being tortured for years by demons (whether physical or emotional).
WGAF? Billie and Christie were b****es. Billie is a selfish b whose obsession with believing her little sister was a victim is so ridiculous, she is such a dumb blonde that she couldn't see through the evilness of her sister. I've hated season 8, I FF through B and C scenes. Kaley is one of the WORST actresses, she's fake and she ruined TBBT.
I’d love a deep dive into Billie and Christy. Like it always threw me how Christy starts off all meek and scared. Then suddenly is powerful and manipulative and knows all these spells ( like the dream spell). How could Billie not notice the sudden change?
Ok its might bcause it was a bitsudden, and the acress is prtty good in being te manipulative evil sister. d ilove paige here and phoe reaching outmaking a lotof senseshe did betray the sisters as well for a while. And paige, so good. Also that her helping does her in turn help as wellis nice theme over episodes. ithinkin one she hlps a speedster who helps out too.
Season 6-7 were in my opinion the catch up seasons like especially s7 being a great endjng to the show, but S8 was definitely the better ending for Charmed. The sisters earned their happy ending
I feel because coop started with a c and the picture where they wentbto the past the apple did a c meaning her soulmate had a name starting with c the moment i first saw coop i kinda knew because if they wanted a cupid storyline they could have brought back the cupid we saw before but that they changed to new one made me think he was hwr soulmate
I really wish we had something else than magic school for the charmed ones as a plot in the final season. I do think this is one of the stronger episodes.
The Season 8 was HEAVY. At least that's how i felt it. A unexplainable amount of hate toward Christie's character (then Billie's too) grew on me. I think it shows that even tho their character's development wasn't well done, the evilness of Christie plus the confusion on Billie's side were perfectly written cuz baby when i tell y'all that i hate and hated these girla for the last 5 or 6 episodes wooooh. Also in that particular episode i couldn't understand how Billie could be ao gullible & manipulable like gurl you've seen tge charmed ones fighting for goods and being selfless so how would you be mad at them for wanting a break or a normal life? It's not their fault if your parents are dead tho... Alao Christie is soooo manipulative OMG I don't think I've ever hated a character that much. Lemme slow down. I just finished the last season. Yea, i almost cried, nostalgia and yadda yadda. I just wished the last episode was longer. But it was great.
Hi there. I totally enjoyed this. God knows, I don't agree with all of your Reviews, but this I love. Especially the messaging in this Episode, which is used way too little: It's not wrong for you to want what you want and to build a life for yourself. It's used too little in other shows of this caliber. It's been a totally long time, since I watched Charmed, but still. So cool. I have to disagree with your opinion on Buffy Season 6. I am not a Buffy fan already, but this...? Pass. Just pass.
The only reason why season 8 is a hard watch is bc Billy and christy’s hair. I agree that season gets a lot of undeserved hate. I think the coop love interest arc being so short is another reason because after everything we see phoebe go through, she deserved a longer arc with her ACTUAL great love.
While Season 8 isn't a favorite of mine, the Ultimate Power plot among other elements like Paige&Henry and character exploration plots like these were fairly nice additions in the grand scheme of things. Even though I don't completely agree with some of the character motivations here, the show does vocalize the flaws of the characters as a point of contention. Not only that, I also like HOW Billie doesn't just completely turn on them in such a stupid one-sided way, part of her doesn't want it and she'd rather have proof decide her decision at that moment. I also like how Paige is willing to leave her dream to save someone, while still wanting a sense of enlightenment, but not at the expense of her charges. It's a nice contrast from the others. While I'm not a fan of Piper in this season (namely because of the first half with episodes like Kill Billie Vol 1) but I'm also not a fan of the Sex and the City vibes the first few episodes give off, it comes off as just bleh rather than endearing. Even though Phoebe is my least favorite sister, I DO appreciate how she goes about handling the Billie conflict, which Piper goes about in the wrong way! It is one of the few times post-Season 4A that I can side with her. In fact, now that I think of it, it would be her best standing as a character post-Flanderization. And while I am someone who prefers the first 4 seasons of the show, Seasons 5-8 always had stronger finales or final conclusions, which is something I can give credit for, where as I feel they had weaker season openers by comparison. I feel as if more of the effort went into the build up to and the conclusion of the season itself, as the tone is better than the first half of the season.
I think they had an advantage for 5 and 6 that, after they kept the show in limbo in 4 not knowing whether they'd get renewed and therefore having to rush the resolution to Cole as the Source, the network gave them an automatic two season renewal as an apology. So they at least knew they'd be coming back. Not sure about the hiatus between 6 and 7, but they did have a plan for 8 and wrote Something Wicca This Way Goes in a way that it could be a finale if they weren't renewed, but still could continue the story if they were
@@BetterWithBob I think as I have rewatched the show it's namely the first half of Season 8 I dislike, outside of standouts such as Billie, Paige and Phoebe's friendship with Billie a lot of things I didn't find great about it, it also has my least favorite episode of the show. But it picks up around the second half where conflicts become more characterized and how it tackles morality. It's not the worst season of the show for me anymore, that would go to Season 6, though it sits firmly around the middle or below Season 7 for me. As I wasn't a fan of Season 5 either, it would be my Season 2 for you. lol
@@BetterWithBob Most characters introduced later in a show's run especially if they're there to replace another character almost never goes well. Paige Matthews is the BEST replacement or later introduced character of all time. She was introduced so organically to the audience and other characters that I forgot that she was meant to be a replacement for Prue. I felt as if she was always meant to be there. Tv tropes call this Iconic Sequel Character
@@vonterriojones oh yes definitely. Other famous examples I can think of are both Cathy Gale and her replacement Emma Peel in The Avengers - Cathy being the third partner for John Steed
Not the season 8 episode I was expecting, but still a good video. Season 8 was the first season of the show I watched. I had gone down a Kaley Cuoco rabbit hole and watched it for her only to fall in love with the show itself. I do want to say that thing Joss said about happy couples being boring is utter Bullsh*t. Watch One Tree Hill or Friday Night Lights. SPOILERS for those shows. Nathan and Haley sure had ups and downs in their relationships but for aside from a couple weeks of separation in season 5 the two stayed together from season 3 through the rest of the show. And the Taylor's in FNL were married the whole entire show with a few common marital spats. It is not boring to have couples stay together, it's just easier to break them up to create drama.
Would you believe I only watched Charmed because Kaley was in it too? Of course I started earlier and worked my way up to her season - the channel I watched started at Season 4 but then aired 1 on the weekends
@@BetterWithBobI wonder if that’s the reason why Season 1 doesn’t resonate with some fans. Maybe, it’s because you guys didn’t watch it from the very start in 1998 so some of the 90s aura/tropes/tone of the first season that can’t connect or make you feel nostalgic. I wonder if that’s the same for the second season of Buffy and why a lot of fans connect with Season 3 and on when the show was broadcasted and syndicated more.
@@AmoMe2009 I have no problems with 90s camp. My problem with Charmed is that I watched Paige's seasons first. Starting with season 8 then going back and watching seasons 4-7. So Prue was hard to get used to and always found her a little judgy. Love Shannon and started liking Prue in seasons 2 and 3, just don't like her in season 1.
Not the point of the video, but as you brought it up twice, I like season 7 of Buffy. I just didn’t like Kennedy. I agree that she was the most boring part of it. The rest of the season is clever in ways you have to notice. Tara and Willow were a couple for 3 years overall, and I did not find them boring.
I don't hate season 8 or Billie (Christy deserves ALL the hate) but i do feel that Kaley was horribly miscast. That girl was built for comedy not drama. The "crying" she did in the finale made me laugh so hard.
I just can't stand season 8 because it was the height of Phoebe's selfish behavior. Wha wha whaaaa. 😂 All they did was complain and sadly the writers turned Paige into a self-centered egomaniac too. Billie was right. 😂
Honestly i reslly liked Billie in season 8 i get why peoole dont like h a but i feel kinda bad for her. Like yeah she turned quickly but at the same time its not a sirprise she believee her blood sister
Never thought this video would randomly remind me the only couple that stayed together in the end on Buffy was Joss Whedon's wet dream couple. Ugh. -Joss only wanted Willow to be gay instead of Xander more than likely due to the fact that they thought it was hot on set (crew would make comments to Amber/Tara on set about it). Joss made Kennedy thirsty for Willow more than likely because that's "okay", because realistically if Willow was thirsty for a much younger slayer that would be predatory. The only thing that makes it more "acceptable" is the fact that Kennedy is of legal age at least.- Random but the vibe of how this episode was shot and the lighting in a lot of scenes gives me season one cinematography/lighting vibes, especially with the particular shots you used to edit towards the end.
@@BetterWithBob I was wondering if it was that, or the fact that he didn't wanna repeat the "kill your gays" trope again. I don't think it was his intention to necessarily to that trope, but I'm sure that didn't help the Tara situation.
I interpret her as being so traumatised by her parents' death and already sensing things that don't add up with Christy that she goes straight into fawn mode in an attempt to hold onto the only family she has left. I've depressingly seen it happen often where people will fall out and just switch almost like Jekyll and Hyde
I'm so glad I'm not alone in loving Season 8. There's a touch of S1 in S8 when it comes to plot, atmosphere, budgetry constraints etc. It's a great bookend season.
Oh yes, I've noticed that 7 and 8 feel like they're throwing back to 1 a bit
I want to love all of Charmed, I just find the latter seasons so painful.
@@BetterWithBobno just season 8
I like that the “C” that appeared when they went back in time can still be for Coop.
The first Cupid was way more compelling
@@TCt83067695I'd have rather it still have been for Cole. Or that Kira's name had been spelled Ciara and it had stood for her.
And someone else said that it's the third letter of the alphabet and Phoebe is the third sister. Coop is also her third husband
@@BetterWithBob Which works for Prue and Andy as well. If only Leo and Henry had been called Ben and Dave.
For me it stands for Coop in canon, sorry Cole 🤷♀️
That lighting in the house during the dream sequence definitely gives me charmed pilot vibes.
Ooh good spot!
@@BetterWithBob So true, and she could finally live her normal life, open her restaurant and not have to fight demons as much.
Yes! The show was much smarter than given credit for
You know i kjnda like Sandra, she was the only decent and human like elder.
Very well said. She seemed to offset some of Odin's worse qualities
@@BetterWithBobdamn I didn't know one of the elders was called Odin
I really did like Sandra. I forget if she lived or died. But I’m glad she was the Elder we saw a lot of. People like her make me believe in Leo wanting to be an Elder.
Rushed or not, Victor Webster is one fine azz man that definitely delivers his Coop lines very well emotionally to Pheobe. He and Alyssa Milano make a nice-looking couple in real life too. They both have flavor!
You certainly believe it when Phoebe says she'd never known love like his
I honestly don't see what ppl like in the pairing. I literally switch off when they come on the screen.
Even Jason was better and more believable, admittedly probably because the actors were actually dating and breaking up in line with the sequence in the show.
One of the most beautiful men n tv with Jesse Metcalfe
Wonderful recap as per usual. You bring up an interesting point about Coop and Phoebe and their relationship being a lot less dramatic and turbulent than other relationships portrayed on screen. I actually think it would have been great if Coop had been introduced in season seven after phoebe regained her premonition powers. not just to help her find love but to be a friend and confidante and help her back on the right path. it would have given them more time to build the relationship as they definitely had a lot of chemistry.
Yeah I'm not sure what their reasoning was behind not introducing him sooner
15:11 whats funny is that theres a video on Twitter with holly talking about the gag reels of the show and alyssa had gases during this scene and they couldn't film the scene without silly problems and yet they sell out a very sisterly family cozy conversation as sisters very touching and agreat way to end the episode. Also phoebe is very affectionate and relatable in this episode
oh lord I have to find that lol
Season 8 isn't my ultimate favorite, especially since i don't like endings (even though their series finale is of the best I've ever seen) but i will say everyone evolved into their best version of themselves here which i adore. Not only in personality but in looks as well. You see them really settled into their sense of self.
Agreed on all points :)
Very well said 👏👏👏
So you have covered at least one episode of every season.
Yeah it was all about *balancing* the normal life with the magical one and realising that they can have both
I agree about Coop, HMC did too. He was the perfect pair for Phoebe aside from Cole. It’s just that I wish we met him before season 8 so that we could see their relationship’s actual progression. Plus, remember in the earlier season Phoebe initially fell for a Cupid, too, so it wasn’t that much of a surprise that she ended up with a Cupid.
like it’s been mentioned in the comments,, the Ultimate Power storyline, Phoebe and Coop and Paige and Henry were rushed // what i, too, wanted to see was some more character development around how and why Billie and Christy became the ultimate power - something about it never felt quite earned when I compare it to the Charmed Ones evolving in power and sisterhood and relying on their intelligence, practical skills, strategizing and experiences, thus earning the title of being the most powerful force of Good (even tho the writers could’ve taken the lazy route and simply relied on the fact of telling us they were who the fuck they were in first episode)
ion know // I think B & C’s powers were cool and had that umph potential; telekinesis, projection : telepathy, pyrokinesis - but i think they missed some opportunities to, again, show why they’re so powerful - for ex: they potrayed Telepathy in season 6 as this omega level (or almost) power, allowing the user to tap into other powers - I would’ve liked to see Christy tapping into the Charmed One’s active powers - and i think they wrote Billie as a bit overpowered with the projection (Piper needed Coop’s ring and then help from Grams and Patti to travel accurately back in time to Phoebe and Paige, Billie needed only herself-yes, coached by Dumain) and when she was introduced she seemed already to have MAJOR fucking juice and skills and yet we’re to believe she’s a noobnoob and needs training from the Charmed Ones
i realize practicing one’s powers and delving into the other layered aspects of magick are different skillsets but i feel what i feel about how confident and sassy and badass Billie seemed upon her introduction - i also wanted to see specific backstory around B & C getting their powers and learning to control them
i guess the budget really affected what they could get into,, nonetheless i’m satisfied with Season 8 and the whole sendoff of the Series
I like her.
Thank you for the kind words ^_^
You happy?"
I wonder if that was also a direct response to critics who said she stopped using her freezing powers as the years went by.
Hmm possibly. Would they have been as aware of criticisms without instant access to social media like now?
Not you making me want to do a rewatch of S8 😂
You never know ;)
The back lighting on the sisters in the manor was gorgeous.
In the dream sequences?
@@BetterWithBob In both the real and dream.
A mid day episode! We love it !
It's closer to midnight for me lol
Excellent use of the Sabrina the Teenage Witch sound bite 🙂And Buffy S6 is my 2nd favourite season too, I loved it since I first watched it as it came out and when I discovered the internet I was surprise at how split the audience was over it.
Also I really need to re-watch the latter seasons of Charmed cos they're the ones I remember the least and would be interested to know how my opinion has changed over time. Thanks for the video!
💖 I love season 8 too! Thank you for analyzing this episode.
You're welcome :)
I would like to point out Christie’s death could have been a tad bit better if they used the spell that was used on Phoebe in her past life.
Well they'd have learned their lesson by now not to doom future reincarnations for the past life's sins
Excited already! First one here🎉😂
4th 😂😂😂
I too love season 8. The last few episodes are some of my favorites
I'm the same ^_^
same here!!
I love your videos sooo much. I get giddy when j see when I see that you posted. I am having a hard day they really 😊help me relax I just hope you keep going and expand your catalog so I can never stop watching lol
Hehe many thanks
Please some more of the beloved season 3. Perhaps “ Power Outage”? So many excellent episodes . Always loved “Sight Unseen” for what a badass Prue is, “ Sleuthing with the Enemy “?Thank You .
Season 8 plot was pretty nice imo
1) What they did with Leo: I know the budget forced that, but the way they use him as a motivation for the final confrontation is nice. And being the first and only moment they could stopped death shows how incredibly powerful they have become
2)Bringing back the importance of being sisters as the base of their power (power of three and ultimate power)
2) Having Paige's charge as their enemy is actually something they havent done before
3) Develope their inner desires to start the season and teaching Billie the craft (nice for the final season) as well as being the reason Christie uses to put them against esch other
4) Phoebe's journey after losing her powers. She is portrayed in a more mature way, at first anxious to have her family and daughter from the Utophy vision, and having her "love block" from past relationships, but then focused on Billie finding her sister and the final confrontation
Since Paige gets more powers (healing remote orbing levitation) and Piper is shown as the most powerful (could summon Elders, Avatars and even the Angel of Destiny, or killed a triad member with a couple of blow ups) Phoebe still had less active powers.
We want longer videos!!! 🙂🙂
@@BetterWithBob yes absolutely. Never considered that but thats very logical
Same recently watched all 8 seasons and I found myself really enjoying season 8
There seems to be a growing appreciation for it now. Before I did my big series wide video last year, I came across this article praising it:
collider.com/why-charmed-season-8-is-good/
Thanks for this video ,this episode is cool and i really love this season with 3 first seasons its my fav
Love season 8 as an adult now. It's a nice change that for once they had to fight sisters "good witches" instead of demons/purely evil beings
I enjoyed season 8 as well, can't lie 🤷🏾 and the "glossy" overlay of the set 😍😍
I have to say the Casting Department did a fantastic job in picking Victor Webster who was a series regular in Mutant X who had the power of Electricity like Season 3 Cole.
Could you do a video on what might be different if the charmed ones had they’re powers from childhood
No need convincing. I adore this season! ❤
In season eight it was rushed I think they wanted season 8 finale so it could be done yeah but Billie she was naive since she found Christie she should have known how long Christie was with Demons because she should have question Christy how did they treat her so there wasn’t any flashback Christie with the Demons
If only there was more to the story while she was kidnapped by Demons Christie probably they had to be a prophecy who knows but it was rushed Season 8
The contracts were up for Season 8. Rose at least had signed a five season contract when she joined, so they knew Season 8 would be the end
Huh. Maybe I am off here, but:
Jung is the German word for Young.
@@BetterWithBob oooh, I learned something new today! ☺️
It’d be cool to hear your thoughts on Buffy’s 6th season.
I don't think I'd have the time to do a video any time soon but I can summarise some thoughts:
*The two part opening is the best season premiere across the entire series
*Tara really comes into her own as a character, acting as a surrogate sister to Dawn and becoming Buffy's friend
*Due to less censorship on the UPN, Willow and Tara get to act more like a couple
*The magic as drugs arc I actually like
*Letting Buffy fall very far as a character was interesting to me, and her turning to Spike for comfort was a scary kind of relatable
*Episodes like Once More With Feeling, Tabula Rasa, Smashed, Wrecked, Older and Far Away and the three part finale are all top quality
*The Dark Willow storyline is the best
*It's the one season where Xander isn't annoying, until Hell's Bells at least
*The "life is the big bad" theme I find really powerful
@@BetterWithBob So cool of you to post this! Thanks for your thoughts.
I did a video on Billie at the start of the year actually

Ok its might bcause it was a bitsudden, and the acress is prtty good in being te manipulative evil sister.
d ilove paige here and phoe reaching outmaking a lotof senseshe did betray the sisters as well for a while.
And paige, so good. Also that her helping does her in turn help as wellis nice theme over episodes. ithinkin one she hlps a speedster who helps out too.
I couldn’t take Billie or Christy seriously. I was supposed to believe these random girls are the ultimate power? 😒
Omg same!
Season 8 in my opinion wasn’t the worst it actually wrapped up everyone storylines
Season 6-7 were in my opinion the catch up seasons like especially s7 being a great endjng to the show, but S8 was definitely the better ending for Charmed. The sisters earned their happy ending
How would you rank Buffy's seasons? Im very intrigued!
3 is my favourite, followed by 6 and then 7, then 1 and 2, then 4 and 5 coming in dead last (I do NOT like that season lol)
Do you think Angel is a series you'd consider covering?
Yeah I used to watch it all the time. It'd be difficult to work out which angle to approach it from though
I justcrelised thats Freya fromThe Originals. She aculy got toplay a badass witch ther 😂
She played one in ahs i believe too
I feel because coop started with a c and the picture where they wentbto the past the apple did a c meaning her soulmate had a name starting with c the moment i first saw coop i kinda knew because if they wanted a cupid storyline they could have brought back the cupid we saw before but that they changed to new one made me think he was hwr soulmate
Would you ever do a video on highlander the series 🤔
I never watched it sorry
@@BetterWithBob you should give the series a shot it's really good
I really wish we had something else than magic school for the charmed ones as a plot in the final season. I do think this is one of the stronger episodes.
how do you mean?
I’ve always liked s8. Where does this ‘hate’ narrative come from btw?
I will reserve judgment but s8 is the season i depise for many reasons but this episode is a good one
Epic reaction ❤❤❤😂😂😂
Love season 8 while u have wish for a slight tweak to the story I do love the season
If 6 and 7 are your 2nd and 3rd favorite Buffy seasons which is your favorite?
3 is my absolute favourite easily ^_^
@@BetterWithBob me too! As someone whose favorite characters are Faith and Willow it’s an easy choice.
@@phoebep4688 it has most of my favourite episodes ^_^
I love og charmed 1-4 however I always loved season 8.
I hated that season like alot of people to me it was a former shell of it self
Billie had every right to side with Christy! The Charmed ones were awful to her and used her!
Well...that's a take
Love s8!!!
Yay! More fans lol
I am on the side that I hate 5-
8 but do you think they should have made season 9 as planned?
No, I think Season 8 was a good way to end it
While Season 8 isn't a favorite of mine, the Ultimate Power plot among other elements like Paige&Henry and character exploration plots like these were fairly nice additions in the grand scheme of things.
As I wasn't a fan of Season 5 either, it would be my Season 2 for you. lol
I'm glad someone actually likes season 8 unfortunately I'm not one of them season 8 to me isn't as good as season 7
To each their own :)
Dud you say in one video that Paige is your favorite charmed one, because if you did then we have something in common😂
She is indeed 😊
@@AmoMe2009 That sort of thing rarely affects me. Season 3 is my second favourite or joint with 4 and it's the last season I saw in full
@@BetterWithBob Oh ok, got it!
Loved Billie but hated Christy with a passion.
I think we were supposed to lol. That's why she got such a harsh death
Season 8 is over hated it’s one of my fav season, maybe cause unlike others I actually like billy and christy
Yeah it seems to depend on how the viewer feels about them. Billie is one of my favourite characters on the show and I love the arc so...
@@BetterWithBobyeah me too I loved her personality and her powers
7:31 Also he's hot 😂
Not the point of the video, but as you brought it up twice, I like season 7 of Buffy. I just didn’t like Kennedy. I agree that she was the most boring part of it. The rest of the season is clever in ways you have to notice. Tara and Willow were a couple for 3 years overall, and I did not find them boring.
I liked Christie. She should have survived.
And Prue should have been in the last episode!
*I'm not a huge fan of Season 8 but I do love Buffy Season 6 and 7*
I friggin LOVE the First as a villain :D
I really enjoyed season 6 I appreciate it more as an adult then when I did as a kid
I don't hate season 8 or Billie (Christy deserves ALL the hate) but i do feel that Kaley was horribly miscast. That girl was built for comedy not drama. The "crying" she did in the finale made me laugh so hard.
I thought she did fine
@BetterWithBob oh with what she was given 1000% but I do wonder if there was another actress that could have played the role a bit better.
I just can't stand season 8 because it was the height of Phoebe's selfish behavior. Wha wha whaaaa. 😂 All they did was complain and sadly the writers turned Paige into a self-centered egomaniac too. Billie was right. 😂
🔥🔥🔥
🦾🦾🦾
like season 8 good last season for show
agreed!
I didn't like that paige ended up married in the final season I much prefer her to remain single Henry and her relationship was rushed
Haha restless 😂
Honestly i reslly liked Billie in season 8 i get why peoole dont like h a but i feel kinda bad for her. Like yeah she turned quickly but at the same time its not a sirprise she believee her blood sister
Exactly. It's a textbook trauma response
The only thing that makes it more "acceptable" is the fact that Kennedy is of legal age at least.-
Random but the vibe of how this episode was shot and the lighting in a lot of scenes gives me season one cinematography/lighting vibes, especially with the particular shots you used to edit towards the end.
Hehe they stayed together because he got death threats for killing Tara off
@@BetterWithBob I was wondering if it was that, or the fact that he didn't wanna repeat the "kill your gays" trope again. I don't think it was his intention to necessarily to that trope, but I'm sure that didn't help the Tara situation.
Only you can turn one of my least favorite episodes to one I have alot more respect for.
Why thank you :)
@@BetterWithBob O no thank you, I can now enjoy all of season 8 instead of just the finale.
as good as this episode is i still think Billie turned too easily
I interpret her as being so traumatised by her parents' death and already sensing things that don't add up with Christy that she goes straight into fawn mode in an attempt to hold onto the only family she has left. I've depressingly seen it happen often where people will fall out and just switch almost like Jekyll and Hyde
I wish I had as much faith in Phoebe as you do. Her crimes are legion for they are many.
Hate billie and christie. Kaley is such a horrendous actress, hated her in charmed and tbbt
Sorry, but I just can't stand Phoebe after Season 2 and it clouds my view of episodes.
Phoebes character went downhill after season 2
I just commented the same thing. She was insufferable.
It was the end of Season 4 that did her in for me, but she redeemed herself in 7
Unrelated but I would love for you to make a video about the S3 Halloween episode
I'm waiting until October for that
