Or have her be with a guy, similar to Dave. I mean Rory got to have a boyfriend out of highschool, why shouldn’t Lane. I really don’t get why every character had to be unfulfilled and miserable in the Netflix sequel 😢
Also true! Which is why I liked the idea of bringing back Henry Cho but a new guy altogether makes perfectly sense and yet the writers were like absolutely not. Agreed, the revival twasn’t very hopeful. Maybe a bit more grounded in reality but does anyone watch the show for that?
@@callmecandid1 why did ASP have to destroy her characters like that? Who hurt her? We don't watch the show for realism but for escapism. What happened to Rory??
If they had to pick another love interest for Lane, Brian would have been a better choice. He was respectful to her mum, interested in her culture, considerate, wrote a song for her, and bass and drums are just a good combo. He's not an obvious pick for Lane but that only makes it more interesting. I think he was written off as a viable love interest because he's nerdy and Lane was stuck with an absolute loser when she had a great alternative right in front of her.
I agree with you completely, Brian would have been an interesting option. And i would have loved to see how they convince us to buy into their relationship. Also Brian was willing to write a song named after Lane which I always thought was cute
The revival had such an easy fix for Lane. She could have become a very popular TH-cam podcaster who rates music. That could lead to an agency hiring her.
True, but that might make her cooler than Rory. And it is the Rory generation. Even Paris, who accomplished so much, has her accomplishments listed off in what was essentially a throwaway comment by Francine of all people while Paris is busy freaking out in the high school bathroom over a boy she went on one date with.
I was also thinking of her going the producer route who possibly does like an annual show with her old band who has split amicably to pursue their own lives but still maintain a connection via the industry. She had such a wealth of knowledge on genres and sounds and music as a whole that her eventually graduating into becoming a producer would mean that she has become the heart and mind behind the next great classics of the next few decades so that someone just like her can someday become obsessed with music.
There’s no reason why it couldn’t have been a fun storyline. It could have been an opportunity for their friendship to grow and there could have been more space for Rory to support Lane. It’s a show from 20 years ago. There’s no need to be patronising about being ‘young/ newly a fan’
I was so disappointed when Dave left the show. They had to change Zach's personality so it would even make sense that she would consider him. Her and Dave just fit. It would have been better if they found a replacement actor for Dave. They should have been end goal.
I feel like what they did to lane is exactly what they ended up doing to sookie , get em married n prego , n appear whenever Lorelei's n rory's arc needs them to , of if they a need short episode side story
As someone who was a teenager during the original run of the show, there was NO GOOGLE. The search engines available were Ask Jeeves or Dogpile. They were doing research at the library WITH BOOKS for their homework then typing the papers on their computers.
Oh wow, thank you for sharing that. I completely forgot ask jeeves was a thing and I’ve never even heard of dogpile. I have even more respect for Dave’s effort now
See my argument isn’t necessarily that Google didn’t exist (it was founded in 1998 so it was around) But more along the lines, not everyone had access to the internet in the early 2000s especially in a small town like Stars Hollow. Even the public libraries wouldn’t have necessarily had computer to use at that time yet. (Speaking as someone who didn’t have a computer or access to the internet regularly until 2010)
I honestly think Lane could’ve been single and travelled around as a substitute drummer until she does something else. I like the idea of the blog or her being in artist development. I think once Dave left the show that was a perfect time to have Lane go and explore the world and grow as a person outside of a romantic relationship or her relationship with her mom. She deserved to live her rock and roll dreams outside stars hollow.
That’s a great point, I forgot musicians can tour with other bands as a substitute. It would have been good if Lane had travelled and found herself in the process. An independent Lane Kim would have been really fun to watch
@@callmecandid1I really think she deserved to be the free spirit she was obviously destined to be! It really seemed like she only married Zach to have sex “guilt free” but the writers could’ve either had her move past that or do sex like things (not penetration) and realize she and Zach weren’t compatible and she moves on! Also it was unfair that she only had sex once (we don’t know if she ever did it again) and it was bad. She deserved good sex! She deserves all the good things in the world! I could even see her getting pregnant after a one night stand (or getting married) and moving back to stars hollow but she still does something in the music business. But this would years after she traveled and had all the success.
@jeilee3860 i agree, I don’t love the way they handled Lane’s relationship with intimacy. It felt one note and quite random tbh. Wish they’d taken some care exploring that especially because Mrs Kim has her own concerns with intimacy. Exploring both of their relationships with s*x would have been super interesting and humanising.
@@callmecandid1yes and yes! It seems like they only had her get married so Lorelei would be upset about her and Luke’s relationship. It didn’t feel like a natural progression of Lane’s story.
This video literally made me smile from ear to ear! I was watching as if it was an actual synopsis of what happened. I love the Dave storyline so much and I just wish things were different because Lane really deserved so much better. Thank you for warming my soul. TEAM DANE FOREVER!!
Awww that’s so sweet of you to say. I’m so glad you enjoyed watching it, I loved making. It’s been amazing to see all the likeminded people in the comments 💕
Also I liked the version with Dave the best, I don't think the writers would've done this though as it gives Lane too much main character energy and I feel like they had to dull her life down to make Rory look more important and interesting to keep that narrative that she's so special and talented etc. I also think the only reason that Zach asked Lane to marry her was because she said they couldn't have sex until marriage it didn't feel romantic or special enough.
That’s very true, Lane was always the more interesting of the two but with the show being about the Gilmores, Lane was never going to get her moment. And yeah I thought everything that Zack did in terms of their relationship was so lame and I wish Lane got to have a big epic romantic storyline but she ended up with crumbs and grateful for it 😓
aww so sweet :) I missed Lane in the later seasons. I felt her life panned out so unjustly, as her best friend and only person she could be completely honest with, Rory, just left her. I like your version for her much better :)
I'm just gonna go ahead and pretend that the: Lane + Dave living happily ever after and having successful music careers storyline really happened... I think that's what I've been doing subconsciously this whole time anyway 😅.
Can we also talk about how Lorelai was killing her kid with junk food and that much caffeine? I used to find it quirky as a teen watching GG. But now as a biologist...or just a person with some common sense, I cannot begin to explain how badly they were hurting themselves.
So much better than canon! Of course I would love to see Lane and Dave together for good. I read somewhere that Lane and Sookie’s pregnancies in season 7 were meant to foreshadow or set up the reveal of Rory getting pregnant by the end, or it was a holdover from ASP’s plans for the show later on. I could be wrong though. Apart from Dave though, I think I’d have also been happy if Lane was left single by the end of the original run, like Rory. Maybe if Lane had a chance to leave Stars Hollow, like if the band found greater success and could perform in bigger venues, or if she got a job at a music label or as a talent scout, it would have been so so good for her. It’d have given Lane the chance to really thrive. Narratively, it could have also served as an example for Rory, who was battling anxieties and doubts of the future post-Yale, so this could have been the reassurance that she needed to make strides forward. If her best friend could thrive, then why couldn’t she?
Thank you! And that’s super interesting I’m curious to look into the pregnancies being a foreshadow. Still one of the worst ideas they had tbh. And you’re so right, she could have left single! I can’t believe I didn’t think to add that as an option. That would have been such a great end for Lane if she got to leave Stars Hollow on her own terms and I would have loved to see a goodbye party for Lane instead of Rory. It would have been way more fun
I love this. It really is too bad that Dave left the show. My only weird sticking point is Mrs. Kim moving in with Lane and Dave in a cool city; I think she's too entrenched in Stars Hollow lol, but other than that, fantastic
Thank you! And I agree with you. I realised after I recorded it, I should have said she just comes to visit and maybe babysits for them sometimes. I would have re-recorded that part if knew how to make two recordings sound cohesive but I haven’t got a clue😅 so I just put a disclaimer on screen
I love the idea of zack and Lane getting divorced and her moving home, because she could be a mirror of lorelei's story and eventually strike out on her own with the boys. It would subvert expectations to have her end up that way instead or Rory ❤
omg i’m SO happy your video appeared on my feed, loved your alternatives for Lane, the first one with Dave was my favorite and now that’ll be how it ended for her on my mind, THANK YOU, this was HEALING 😭😭🙏🩵🩵✨
The Dave storyline is my first choice (because Dave is clearly the goat), but the other two storylines would have been amazing as well! Lane truly did not deserve the nonsense this show put her through. #justiceforlane fr
It wasnt known by society at that time that Mrs. Kim was in a High Control type group/cult. Which means Lane grew up in the group from infancy and more than likely had chronic trauma. Punishments were harsh to keep her in the group thinking. They had special diets. She had to go to the groups college. And there was a bit of shunning displayed when Lane left and another relative took Lane's place. I could go on and on, but you get the gist. Read up on what cults do and you will see that perhaps Lane's mother was in one. The writers didnt go into this story line fully, as Lane would have had to have been the main character to get into all that. Many people still don't get it as this is just starting to unfold and society is becoming aware. There are 7 Million ex cult members alone in the US alone. These groups cause mental health issues especially children who were brought up in it, like Lane. You can put the writers down in what happened to Lane, but if there is no unindoctrination from the high control group, then who knows how these children do after they leave and what bad choices they make for themselves. I would have loved to see Lane have her ever after and continue to thrive and grow. However, what happened to Lane's character probably isnt far from reality.
A rewrite on how to make Rory less of a jerk? I feel like once she started going to Chilton and then later on dating Logan, she became one of those people Lorelai was running from. And what happened to her during those 10 years? Okay she didn't make it in the NY times. But there are plenty of other great News papers. Or she could have become a book editor. She must have made so many contacts from travelling with Obama. Surely someone among them had something for her. And the cheating....Again?? Cheating on her supposedly forgettable boyfriend with an engaged man?? I just finished rewatching season 1 and it is so sad when you see how driven and sweet she was..... and eventually where she ended up.
Rory’s story was very all over the place the further into the show we went. It never seemed like she learned from her mistakes or really grew as a person. I was surprised she was struggling so much in her 30s. Maybe it was the writers trying to rectify the fact Rory was treated as a golden child in the original series
they did her so dirty in every sense, like we all know zach and her don´t match at all... but at least they could´ve made a deeper slowburn connection to makes us at little bit more convinced on them or something. she should have either be single thriving within life with dreams and so , reconnected with henry cho or keep dave rygalski character bur recasting it .
Completely agree. And like you said a Zach storyline which was better fleshed out would have been way more satisfying. They might even have found a way to convince us that Zack actually is a good option - that would have been impressive
I Love this! And i agree with a comment that was posted, that though we all hate when they change actors and we Love the original Dave, I’d rather them swap characters and continue Dave’s relationship soooooo much better, and it would be worth it to carry on this version you’ve created!!!!!
this is such a fantastic video! i really want to point out the editing - the sound effects and visuals are so simple and charming but i can tell you put a lot of thought into it!! and the storyline you wrote for lane and dave is so lovely, i feel like it filled a gap in my heart that was left bc of lane's treatment in canon
Thank you! 💕 honestly I feel the same. There have been so many good ideas in this comment section and any of them would have been a massive improvement
I love all three storylines for Lane here. I really wish she and Dave would’ve ended up together. Hated her and Zach together. Hated the pregnancy immediately after their first time. I know with Dave it would’ve been better for both of them.
If Lane needed to have a love interest after Dave left, I wish they would have brought Henry back. Maybe he's at Yale with Rory and they reconnect when Lane goes to stay with Rory. I never liked Lane and Zach and Lane deserved so much better.
Thank you so much! This is one I’m very proud of. I really appreciate your kind words. I do talk about logan as rory’s best boyfriend on patreon (shameless plug 😅) but obviously not everyone wants paywalled content, which I understand. I hadn’t thought of discussing logan as the best boyfriend on the main channel but if I think of an interesting angle, I’ll definitely get to work on it! 💕
It will forever upset me that they didn’t just recast Dave. Adam Brody is adorable and was perfect for the role, but there are plenty of adorkable dudes out there who could have been cast for the role. Stubbornly sticking to Adam and then destroying the OG vision for his character was dumb as hell.
But the entire point of the show is “where you lead I will follow.” That the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Lane’s story is a mother-daughter story. Just like Lorelei and Rory.
True that is a big part of the show. I only ever really saw that applying to Rory and Lorelai but Lane and her mother have that dynamic too by the end. I guess the ideas I suggest in the video would be a way of subverting that line, ‘where you lead i will follow.’ There are valuable things mrs kim learns and gains from taking Lane’s lead and letting her own person, after years of trying to lead Lane with so many strict rules. Also, in truth, I always took that line in the song to mean Lorelai would always be there for Rory. Wherever Rory goes, she’d never be far behind. No matter what.
The storyline with zack made no sense at all, but i really liked the way her relationship with her mom developed through out the process with her getting married and pregnant. It was so interesting to see how her mom also hides her life from her own mom who is buddhist. I liked how mrs kim tries to support lane throughout the pregnancy and after and i thought it was interesting how figuring out how to be a mom, lane kind of gets closer tu her mom and we can see how much she appreciates her. Eventhough she wants to raise her children differntly, she realises that her mom made a lot of sacrifices for her and wants to do the same thing
Yes I also really liked that development. Mrs kim helping the band organise that church tour was cute and helping lane, brian and zack organise themselves in the apartment when they first moved in. Seeing that relationship grow was and watching them find a middle ground was great. Also Mrs Kim being raised Buddhist was such an interesting and surprising additional detail. That’s why I wanted more stuff like that! If only…
Looking back miss Kim did her dirty too not accepting her daughter as she is and making her homeless instead of simply letting her be herself and stay and home, forced her to struggle financially not have as much of a choice to go to college etc. And end up in that flat with Zach and Brian. I know you can still achieve stuff with struggles but what choice did she really have and this was her mum doing what was best for Lane. 🤔
Also very true. Mrs Kim was way too strict on Lane and she needed a lot more support from her instead of them always being at odds so Lane was always going to have a certain amount of struggling to do. We do see Mrs come around on some things but again, if the writers put more care into Lane’s storylines we could have seen her and Mrs Kim really develop their relationship and evolve which is something I try to rectify for in the video. I’m not Asian myself so I can’t speak too much on the subject, but I wonder if the writers leaned too heavy on Mrs Kim being a strict Asian parent which sometimes turned her into more of a plot device/ caricature rather than a character. But again, other people could speak to that better than me
Honestly, Gill looks like he could be a drummer too. I loved Dave. Zach I feel like wasn't at her level. I mean, I feel like he likes music but he's not a music geek the same way Dave and Lane were. They don't have the same chemistry and so much of watching them together makes me feel like she's going to spend most of their marriage having to mother him. I can also imagine him as the dad that just wants to do fun stuff with his kids with no discipline (especially if he is away for long stretches of time touring) so Lane has to be the "bad guy" parent that actually enforces some form of discipline leading to her feeling even more like her mom. And they literally never really talked over what happened that caused their big split up. Like he really sabotaged the band's chance at success over his own jealousy (after dismissing her jealousy that all their songs are other girls names but he never wrote one for her). He apologizes with his proposal and then they basically just move on? Even his proposal was on his own time and all about him! He literally showed up at her WORKPLACE and didn't listen to when she told him she was busy, had a speech that could be summed up as "I feel bad" (I don't think he even said I'm sorry? For either his big mess up or tearing down her posters), and then proposed. That's it. She just forgives him. She deserved better.
So true about Gil. And I completely agree with your assessment of Lane and Zack’s relationship. She would have to carry so much of the domestic labour and like you said, basically become her mother. And maybe that could have been something interesting the show could have examined if it had the time/ interest but it didn’t even do that. And I also agree, Zack didn’t love music the way Dave and Lane did, he just wanted to be cool. And his petulance cost them all a great opportunity. Shoutout to Brian for writing a song named after Lane.
That said I feel like every single female character on the show had at least one "loses all brain cells over a boy" moment. Rory almost giving up Chilton cause a cute boy was nice to her (not like the live in the same town and will see each other all the time or anything). Paris' Tristan meltdown and "I had sex but didn't get into Harvard" meltdown. Even Lorelai almost wiping out and taking a table with her trying to act casual around Luke after they danced. Sookie leaving a phone message for Jackson talking about putting carrots in a vase and later agreeing to the awkward double date.
@SammRoss I hadn’t noticed that as a pattern with all of them but now that you’ve pointed it out, it’s a good point. And sometimes they forgive things that are really harmful like Jackson lying about his vasectomy and Sooki getting pregnant because of it 😬
@@callmecandid1 Yes! Like I get that they wanted to accommodate her being pregnant but it was also like 12 episodes into the final season? Did they really need to address it at all? And at that point a lot of focus was on the Christopher/Luke drama and Rory and Logan's relationship and Rory's "what's next?". They could have just done what old sitcoms did, not mention a pregnancy at all and hide her baby bump behind props. Or, if they did want to include her real pregnancy, went with them being so busy with the kids they kept forgetting to schedule the follow up appointment to find out it if it had been successful so didn't know it had failed. Or he did go and it was just that like 0.01% chance of pregnancy that got them. Because vasectomies, like condoms aren't 100% effective. They're like 99.99% effective. And even the like make up scene didn't feel like it really resolved the main issue. It was more of a "you have to forgive me because everything is chaos and we're about to add to that so we need to be a team again" but like it wasn't her being distant or mad that hurt the "team" it was him lying about a major thing!
All the options you listed here would have been so much better. And the idea they were the unlucky 0.01% to still get pregnant is so sookie and would have made perfect within the tone of the show and her character. Unfortunately they chose the most uncomfortable explanation
I started crying when Mrs. Kim frantically reached out to Lane with the band she missed reviewing, a schedule of bands she should see, and ideas for publications to reach out to. Just started crying and couldn’t stop😭😭😭😭😂 Your Lane and Dave rewrite will forever be canon for me now and I honestly care less if she married her high school bf than that she actually got a job in the industry. It also creates a really really interesting parallel with Rory’s pursuit of journalism-it adds a new dimension to their friendship and would have sparked so many discussions about how they are/not similar as journalists, different reasons to pursue a career, and different ways to go about it. It would have added this whole new dimension to “female role model for girls,” which is so much of what the show felt like to a lot of us, at least until whenever Rory went off the rails. Like: it’s awesome if you love books and go to Yale but you don’t have to (and you don’t even have to have your first choice career) to *do something* and have an awesome life. I think the problem would have been writing your version so Lane was *willing* to get an actual job in the industry, since her initial attitude was kind of purist/go for broke/play or nothing. Anyway, thanks for this. It was the catharsis I didn’t know I needed. Justice for Lane! AND Mrs. Kim!
Oh no, not tears 😂 i never anticipated that response but thank you so much for your comment and taking the time to watch the video. You bring up a very good point about rory and lane comparing careers if they had both pursued journalism. If the show was interested in such discussions, we could have explored race and how that intersects with this too. So true, Lane is such a purist about the starving artist thing. Maybe she could try that initially then evolve into realising making an actual living isn’t selling out. Again thank you for the comment 💕
As a key friend of Rory's growing up they should have integrated her more into the plot later in the show, it feels like they forgot about her. In the end I think Lane was more respectable than Rory anyway considering how she turned out and the more Rory socialised with Logan and more upper class crowds the more I felt she lost touch with her roots in Stars Hollow, which is probably why their friendship didn't develop much further
I completely agree, as the show went on, Lane should have taken on more compelling storylines and her friendship with Rory should have been deepened. Rory definitely lost touch and ended up making the same mistake she made in her twenties. Sadly no real growth on that front
I like how you also make Mrs Kim a better person. I don’t find Mrs Kim’s treatment of lane on the show cute or quirky. In fact I found it abusive at times
Obviously this is a very indepth storyline about Lane. I love this for her. I feel the writers didn't put a lot of effort into the B and C storylines on the show. Whoever did the charcter developement on Lane was asleep at the wheel. I realize the show is about the two main characters and that they couldn't spend this much time on Lane's character, but they could of at least made it interesting. Zach was the absolute worst. I wish she never dated him. My alternate for her is they had that record label gig, got signed and had a shot at some sucess as a band. I also would like her to find a different love interest, since Adam wasn't available. This would have required little to no effort writing wise and I don't understand why they made her life so horrible. Zach is the pits.
100% agree. Even just minimal changes to her storyline would have made the world of difference. Or as another commenter mentioned, rectifying some of their mistakes in the original series by giving Lane more of a life in the revival, but we didn’t even get that. Shame
Lane being a young mum felt like a strange storyline while watching, but I guess there’s a way it could have worked better than the way the writers approached it
I’ve heard the theory that he was the one sourcing the furniture mrs Kim sold in the shop. Regardless, the way they introduce him in the revival was so underwhelming
@@callmecandid1 That's a decent theory - the show really should have given some kind of explanation. He wasn't even there when she got married. It makes no sense. It would have been nice if they gave even a brief explanation for his absence.
@@callmecandid1 exactly. Maybe he even went back to S. Korea to take care of a family member. Maybe they got divorced. Something...anything but just ignoring it.
After seeing Rory story ending in the time jump, the show loves to push the theme of full circle and repeating cycles. So, I wonder if they chose that for Lane lamely.
Lane & Dave was perfect for each other imo & the writers did Lane so dirty & hated how they did her (i dont really like zach either). This might be off topic maybe not but I also don't like how once a character did the deed they immediately get punished for it in some way besides Rory (which i just now noticed that Rory didn't have anything wrong when she did what i mean by that is when Lane had s3x immediately got pregnant same with Sookie, Paris didn't get accepted into college after she did it & thinking that's the reason she didn't get it which isn't the case). I don't want Lane to be together period so im not for that storyline.
That’s a very interesting point and something I definitely didn’t notice when watching it but you make a good point. There is that odd pattern. I think that whole topic could have been approach with way more care. The rationale with Lane will always elude me
Imo, the show has a bias towards the small town life or Stars Hollow in particular. That's why Rory ends up back there in the revival and is the real reason why Lane couldn't leave. The writers seem to want to show that sure, you could dream big and have ideals, but you're probably going to end up right where you started. Or maybe that's just my pessimistic read on the narrative.
It would be curious to hear the writers discuss their thoughts on small town living. I can definitely see how they have a bias towards it. Or maybe, like many viewers of the show, they love what Stars Hollow represents - cute small walkable cosy town with a real sense of community.
this video was confusing there was so much going on maybe its just me but your voice doesn't stand out from the background music and its distracting, good analysis tho
Because I realised I didn’t like Rory and Lorelai during the process of watching the show. For instance, the whole affair storyline with Rory changed my opinions on her compared to when I started. But there are characters I obviously do like - Lane, Paris, Luke and (controversially, Logan), so I was invested in seeing where their stories went. The main characters aren’t always a show’s biggest draw. Like in S*x education, I don’t think many people watch because they love Otis (unless they’re a mega fan of Asa Butterfield), I’m sure many people watch despite how annoying Otis can be at times
I love this rewrite and wouldn't even be mad if they changed the actor for Dave just so the character could continue
Really glad you liked it! And yes that’s such a good point about changing the actors. I forgot to mention it in the video

If they had to pick another love interest for Lane, Brian would have been a better choice. He was respectful to her mum, interested in her culture, considerate, wrote a song for her, and bass and drums are just a good combo. He's not an obvious pick for Lane but that only makes it more interesting. I think he was written off as a viable love interest because he's nerdy and Lane was stuck with an absolute loser when she had a great alternative right in front of her.

The revival had such an easy fix for Lane. She could have become a very popular TH-cam podcaster who rates music. That could lead to an agency hiring her.
Omg yes, that’s such a good idea! Lane would eat up being music podcaster type. And if she did TH-cam she’d give Anthony Fantano a run for his money
True, but that might make her cooler than Rory. And it is the Rory generation. Even Paris, who accomplished so much, has her accomplishments listed off in what was essentially a throwaway comment by Francine of all people while Paris is busy freaking out in the high school bathroom over a boy she went on one date with.

But more along the lines, not everyone had access to the internet in the early 2000s especially in a small town like Stars Hollow. Even the public libraries wouldn’t have necessarily had computer to use at that time yet.
(Speaking as someone who didn’t have a computer or access to the internet regularly until 2010)
Thanks for expanding on that, it didn’t occur to me that the adoption of computers/ the internet may have still been ongoing at the time
I honestly think Lane could’ve been single and travelled around as a substitute drummer until she does something else.
And yeah I thought everything that Zack did in terms of their relationship was so lame and I wish Lane got to have a big epic romantic storyline but she ended up with crumbs and grateful for it 😓
I wanted lane to be a radio dj so badly it would have made so much sense if she was on college radio
That’s such a good idea! That would have been excellent for her
aww so sweet :) I missed Lane in the later seasons. I felt her life panned out so unjustly, as her best friend and only person she could be completely honest with, Rory, just left her. I like your version for her much better :)
Really glad you liked it! Thanks for watching 😊
This is now the canon story for me, Lane and Dave are my favorite couple from the show and they deserved so much better!
Haha I’m choosing to believe this as canon instead too 😂
They did her sooo dirty. I was DEVISTATED when she got pregnant
Lane getting pregnant was literally the worst storyline
I'm just gonna go ahead and pretend that the: Lane + Dave living happily ever after and having successful music careers storyline really happened... I think that's what I've been doing subconsciously this whole time anyway 😅.
Haha that’s what I’m choosing to believe too
Can we also talk about how Lorelai was killing her kid with junk food and that much caffeine?
I used to find it quirky as a teen watching GG. But now as a biologist...or just a person with some common sense, I cannot begin to explain how badly they were hurting themselves.
The coffee consumption was always wild. TV loves treating it like a cute quirk but I can’t help but think about the coffee breath 😂
I would have re-recorded that part if knew how to make two recordings sound cohesive but I haven’t got a clue😅 so I just put a disclaimer on screen
omg this was the Lane/Dave fanfic I didn't even realize I needed! Thank you! 🥰
Haha, glad you liked it and thanks for watching 😊
I love, love, love this editing ❤
Thank you so much! 😊
I love the idea of zack and Lane getting divorced and her moving home, because she could be a mirror of lorelei's story and eventually strike out on her own with the boys. It would subvert expectations to have her end up that way instead or Rory ❤
It’s wild I didn’t even make the connection that it would parallel Lorelei’s story but you’re so right 😅 very perceptive
I love your editing style 💕💕 a great video I completely agree with your points she deserves better
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching 💕 I will always question what was going on in that writer’s room.
omg i’m SO happy your video appeared on my feed, loved your alternatives for Lane, the first one with Dave was my favorite and now that’ll be how it ended for her on my mind, THANK YOU, this was HEALING 😭😭🙏🩵🩵✨
Thank you so much! You’re very kind. I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. 💕
The Dave storyline is my first choice (because Dave is clearly the goat), but the other two storylines would have been amazing as well! Lane truly did not deserve the nonsense this show put her through. #justiceforlane fr
I wish there was a way to ask the writers why they chose the direction they did. But regardless, thank you for watching 💕
This will be my headcanon forever now
Haha mine too, honestly
Your editing is fantastic! Great video. 🙂 I also like your alternative ending. It gives a more inspirational story to Lane.
Thank you very much! 😊
People focus on Dave and rightfully so but I LOVE the idea of her and Henry running into each other again at some point!
It would have been such a cute storyline! And easy to write (assuming the actor who plays Henry was still available)
This is SO much better I want a reshoot!
Thank you! If only it was possible
Def agree with this besides the slow burn for Zach I would rather her be with anyone else besides him
I Love this! And i agree with a comment that was posted, that though we all hate when they change actors and we Love the original Dave, I’d rather them swap characters and continue Dave’s relationship soooooo much better, and it would be worth it to carry on this version you’ve created!!!!!
Thank you! I really appreciate the comment ☺️ I really wonder why they didn’t recast Dave, but I guess we’ll never know
absolutely horrid that this didn't happen
I wish there was a way to fix storylines in old shows
I feel like this healed me hahaha
Haha I’m glad to hear it helped 💕
this is such a fantastic video! i really want to point out the editing - the sound effects and visuals are so simple and charming but i can tell you put a lot of thought into it!! and the storyline you wrote for lane and dave is so lovely, i feel like it filled a gap in my heart that was left bc of lane's treatment in canon
Thank you so much! You’re very kind and I really appreciate you taking the time to leave such a nice comment 😊
This video is amazing! Love the graphics! Love the alternative storyline with Dave!! Well done!!!
Thank you so much! 💕
Loved your storylines and your animations! 💛 You should rewrite the entire last season tbh
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! 💕
god i’m so crushed this wasn’t what actually happened!! i loved this video!
100% agree. Thanks for watching! Really glad you liked it 😊
Same
If Lane needed to have a love interest after Dave left, I wish they would have brought Henry back. Maybe he's at Yale with Rory and they reconnect when Lane goes to stay with Rory. I never liked Lane and Zach and Lane deserved so much better.
Lane bumping into Henry while staying with Rory is a really good idea. Henry would have been a great character to bring back
@@callmecandid1 especially because Henry understood her in a way no one else did. They both faced similar pressure from their parents.
@H.P.93 I never thought about it that way but that’s very true
Your animations for this audio are just soooooo goooood 😮😮😮😮
Thank you so much! 😊
THIS WAS SO COOL! From the concept to the execution, you did it flawlessly. Thank you
Thank you so much!
Yeah recasting seemed like the easiest way to go and yet… i really wonder why they didn’t do that. It bothers em too
THIS IS SO GOOD
Thank you! ☺️
Oh my God I absolutely adore this. Why wasn’t this real?
Thank you so much! I wish the show had panned out something like this too
But the entire point of the show is “where you lead I will follow.” That the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree.
No matter what.
i love your editing and this video!! justice for lane fr. i refuse to go along with the shitty ending the writers gave her
Haha, thank you so much 🥰
The storyline with zack made no sense at all, but i really liked the way her relationship with her mom developed through out the process with her getting married and pregnant.
If only…
@@callmecandid1 yes they should really have given lane more screen time:/
Looking back miss Kim did her dirty too not accepting her daughter as she is and making her homeless instead of simply letting her be herself and stay and home, forced her to struggle financially not have as much of a choice to go to college etc.
But again, other people could speak to that better than me
I miss Dave so much
So do I
Honestly, Gill looks like he could be a drummer too.
Shame
Your Dave storyline>>>
I found the costume choices for Lane especially later in the series awful! Same awful sweaters. She’s supposed to be a rocker. Just doesn’t fit.
Hahah yeah she had some odd wardrobe choices 😂 I think at one point they tried to give her clothes more ‘edge’ but they didn’t really commit to it
I love Dave. I wish he had come back to marry him
I wish Lane and Dave could have gotten married too (tears)
I doubt Lane would have been a young mom.
Lane being a young mum felt like a strange storyline while watching, but I guess there’s a way it could have worked better than the way the writers approached it
I'm wondering if the actor who played Dave is disappointed or if he feels guilty for what happened to Lane bcs of his leaving 😂
I’d be surprised if he was. I’m sure he was way more preoccupied with his role on The OC because it was a much bigger commitment
Lane was really done dirty. I loved her sweet spirit. Nothing got her down.
Yes she was such a go getter. I loved that about her
I can stick with this storyline. In my mind, it was always Dave and Lane.
It’s the storyline I’m sticking too. I fully support revisionist history where Lane Kim is concerned
The mystery of Lane's father...
They really should have and it wouldn’t have been difficult. Shows as long running as Gilmore Girls always seem to have these odd plot holes
@@callmecandid1 exactly. Maybe he even went back to S. Korea to take care of a family member. Maybe they got divorced. Something...anything but just ignoring it.
I wish we could query the writers on all hese things to figure out the rationale
Ohhhhh I love this so much.
Thank you so much!
Henry would have been really good too. Both are so much better than the way it turned out.
Agree 100%
This is perfect and is my new head cannon. Fix… Rory too please 😂
Thanks so much! I too am choosing to believe this version instead of reality 😂 I think Rory might be beyond fixing 😅
After seeing Rory story ending in the time jump, the show loves to push the theme of full circle and repeating cycles. So, I wonder if they chose that for Lane lamely.
It’s very possible that was their thinking. I don’t think it worked but I see what they were going for…I guess
@@callmecandid1 Oh I don’t think the attempt with Rory was well done either. I think it is an uncreative small town trope.
Yeah, I didn’t love the way the revival season ended for Rory either. Felt like a very deflated way to end things
The rationale with Lane will always elude me
I don't know anything about this show and even I know they did Lane dirty.
😂😂
If Dave couldn't come back I wish Lane had ended up with Brian instead. They had much better chemistry and he was so sweet to her
A Brian storyline would have been really interesting. He seemed like a nine character, shame he was never better utilised
Or maybe, like many viewers of the show, they love what Stars Hollow represents - cute small walkable cosy town with a real sense of community.
someone get this person writing career
Honestly, like Hollywood I’m right here. But in all seriousness, you’re too nice! To be an actual working writer - the dream.
Im glad you kept Gil lol
Love Gil, he’s great haha
I’ve been saying this!! ❤
this video was confusing there was so much going on maybe its just me but your voice doesn't stand out from the background music and its distracting, good analysis tho
My question is…why did Palladino HATE Lane? Lol
I wonder about this myself, because something’s up
its not even that i dont like zack its just that hes soooo plain and unambitious.
It really is the lack of ambition and personality for me
If u don’t like the main characters, why watch the show?
Because I realised I didn’t like Rory and Lorelai during the process of watching the show. For instance, the whole affair storyline with Rory changed my opinions on her compared to when I started. But there are characters I obviously do like - Lane, Paris, Luke and (controversially, Logan), so I was invested in seeing where their stories went. The main characters aren’t always a show’s biggest draw. Like in S*x education, I don’t think many people watch because they love Otis (unless they’re a mega fan of Asa Butterfield), I’m sure many people watch despite how annoying Otis can be at times
