    FYI - Regarding the APO fuction - it can be defeated on startup. I have this same meter in the slightly older model number (WH5000A), same meter and functions & also 6,000 count they just changed the model # to more accurately reflect the 6000 display count. On the APO, with my WH5000A if you want to defeat the APO feature hold down the "select" button while turning on the range switch and it beeps four or five times then the APO will disappear off the screen and the meter will stay on indefinitely until you turn it on the next time, this only works for one on/off cycle and must be repeated each cycle, but its very handy to be able to turn it off for those long sessions where you dont want to be bothered. Many meters have the APO and defeat feature, its built into most multimeter chip software packages. I have found this meter to be a great value and more reliable and accurate than one would expect in the price range. Mine was only $25 when I got it - theres also a little brother to this meter the Astro DT132A, its 4,000 count and also a pretty good little meter I have it as well.

      Thanks for the tip about switching off APO, very useful. The continuity speed on this meter is excellent and I have saved the DT132A to my wishlist.

    Thx for the review. I had a Sperry DM6250 multimeter that used around the house for years. Last time I went to use it I turned it on and no display. I replaced the batteries and still no display. Looking for an inexpensive replacement for the types of things I use a multimeter for I stumbled across this video. Your review convinced me that this meter would provide all I needed and it was a good value for the price. I paid $29 on sale for the meter I obtained.

    Very good review and I was glad to see your freq tests. I have one of these DVOMs and decided I needed to know how to change the battery. I found two screws on one end, but not the other and I did not want to try and pop it open in case there are screws hidden under a piece of plastic I have not discovered. If you know how, a brief response would be appreciated. Thanks!

      Take off the rubber sleeve, there are two screws under that, and two screws under the stand piece. The instructions do not even show the stand.....I was just the opposite from you I found the two under the sleeve first'

    Those two slots on the gray thing with the post isn't for a thermocouple but to test capacitors without using the test leads

    As for the stand, you can simply push the top of the stand in and it will pop it out. It took me a minute to figure that out cause my fingers are far too large to get under the edge of it.

    Just to say I bought this meter and its great feels solid, great features, I really like it, I was going to use it as a stop-gap to something pricier, but honestly I don't need to.

    Two bugs with this meter:
    When measuring DC current, it won't awaken from APO with the 2 second button push (but does awaken when leads are in normal voltage input measurements)
    Display light goes out too quickly.

    The plastic stand at the back is difficult to open/ close. Lubricate the plastic hinges of the stand with WD40. Much better now.

    Thank you for the video. I have never had one of these devices in hand before 20 minutes ago. So I assume that I need to cut away some portion of the plastic cover on the male connector to be able to plug into the input jacks on the device? Nothing in the manual about that.

      Yes. In both DC and AC, the Range button allows you to select mV with precision of 0.1mV or V with precision of 1V, 0.1V, 0.01V or 0.001V

      Continuity

    • @jeffb321
      @jeffb321 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes select the ohms, diode and continuity on the dial and then push the select button above until your display shows the symbol for continuity and then test. If you have continuity the meter will make a continuous beep as long as your probes are placed on whatever you are testing.

    Is it American made???

    • @EETechStuff
      @EETechStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are you serious? Since when are any electronic components made in the USA? Even back when integrated circuits first came into existence when I was a kid they were made in China, Philippines, etc. Just open up any electronic device and look at the stamp on the IC's. We demand the lowest prices for our electronics, but never realize those prices aren't possible unless they're made by cheap labor overseas.
