Basic combat tactics work great: flank the enemy and win! Either using archers of any melee unit, as long as you attack from behind it should deal 2x damage to the enemy.
On the patch 1 beta test branch archers are back to normal. In my last battle I had five archer regiments, 3 militia and 2 mercenaries, and they absolutely shredded approaching infantry and brought their morale down so much that they did not last long against my spearmen.
Thats ALOT like the battle of Canae, where the romans legions were arranged in verticle rectangles. However, this was to add momentum to the center flank and push through Hannibal's center, using the own enemy's left and right flanks as defense against their skirmishing units (considering that rome had a difficult time dealing with them otherwise). In your case, you have alot more skirmishing units, which explains the results and reasoning behind the two battle plans.
The game is not even out yet and people are talking about broken strategies and metas in a game thats not even competitive 🙃 things like this is why people think games flop because they dont even have to experience it themselves or figure things out and enjoy the leanring process, its ridiculous how many videos there are on the game and its not even out yet
Well so yeah a triplex acies/macedon open type formation where you open up your opponents flanks for missiles or attacks. Wouldnt it be better to have your spearmen in square formation for better defence? And then you have your retinue and arches attack the openings. Its clearly an ancient tactic, and still works in the game.
especially early in game, since you have no men to join your army, they give the AI merc and troops. See it like you started a village where the opponent has been living for a long time. I'd say you'll need a minimum of 100 families to battle enemies and there wont be any merc at that time later
Sadly false now. I had 2 full archer units shooting at a raider gang and they only killed one guy before archers had to fall back. Even shooting into the raider's back as they fought spearmen, the archers didn't do much.
Where exactly is this "massive potential"? All I see is a tiny battle with less than 200 guys on each side while rome 1 a game from 20 years ago had all these features while allowing battles of thousands of soldiers.
you've missed the point completely. Total war has thousands of generic units. Every unit in this game is a person from your village. It's more about the individual detail, and the scope is more realistic for the setting the game is in.
Battles between (minor) lords didn't usually have thousands of troops, and those minor battles are what this game (regarding combat) is about. If you want big battles, go for Total War. If you want to be a lord in central Europe fighting occasional battles with other lords, this is the game.
Smash that LIKE!
Did you learn some new stuff?
Sir we are surrounded by trees what shall we do!?

You Right! Great to see you on the channel, love ur vids!
Sadly it's not very true anymore because dev over-nerfed the archers lol (he said that himself)
But it should get back to normal soon

BTW guys archers were heavily nerfed prior to the release of early access to the public! Dont use them!
Yeah.... They SUCK

correct. the game is out and archers were nerfed. they deal 0 damage now.
Cry more you nerd. Act like your opinion holds in any kind of debate
It's good they talk - the more feedback, the better gameplay.

"Archers are the way to go." - get's nerfed.

This whole archer intro is false now. Archers are useless after the nerf lol

Nerf Archers Please, xD
Can you explain economics
First
So the combat in the game is broken and terrible. Oh well, I supported it anyway.
That’s the right mindset
schlecht, da in englisch, bitte in Deutsch!

The dev said that it’s a city builder, not a total war competitor and the battles would be at a much smaller scale
I have seen videos with a ton of mercenaries battles can get quite big

Total War is series is bad
You talk way too fast. Good video though.
