- Well, I guess we should start with welcome back to another episode of From Bournemouth To Bulgaria guys hey! And what an episode to come back to, if you were looking for some hardcore DIY renovating, you got it!
In this episode, we take on the outbuildings on our farmhouse and attempt to patch up the extremely damaged roofs on both the barn and the annex which we couldn't have gotten done so fast without Will Rae's help, so once again our friend, thank you so much!
We do some well-needed spring gardening, take you down to the village center for a wee festival, and show you one of the worst storms we have encountered here so far! It's another jam-packed episode, we really hope you enjoy it.

Wow 😲 what a huge project you have taken on! I applaud your bravery. I don't really understand it because I am Bulgarian and what you are trying to achieve is essentially what every Bulgarian has been running away from for the last 30-40 years 😂 But I applaud you for chasing your dreams. I don't think anyone else would understand the difficulty level of this project. Any renovations can easily turn into a nightmare due to lack of skilled labour but it's good you are taking a lot of the work yourself. Just huge tho...it took me more than two years to renovate a flat in Sofia, wouldn't even dream of taking on that kind of project. Also life in rural Bulgaria can be extremely tough due to lack of basic amenities (hospitals, schools, police, shops, transport, roads etc) and hence villages have pretty much been abandoned across the country. But it does warm my heart to see you appreciate the land and the beautiful countryside. I wish you many happy years and lots of love and enjoyment in your new property ❤
That is not true. A lot of Bulgarians have been living in the villages all those years and a lot of Bulgarians that was not are returning the last 4-5 years and restoring their homes or buying another.
Hey! Thanks for commenting. You're right, it's a huge task and a huge project, but the potential is there for it to be a dreamland with the right attitude, work ethic and determination. We love our village and we're about 10km away from a well populated town so we still have the best of both worlds. 😀
diamond in the rough this property :) good luck
Your guys are hard core. I moved out here just after you and had nowhere the amount of work you guys got. How you find the time with kids and blogging to is amazing. It’s been a tough year, looking forward to learning more on veggie gardens etc. it’s a massive learning curve and hard work but I wouldn’t change a thing. Wishing you all the best guys. Well done and keep it up ❤
Thank you! We're certainly trying hard to get our footprint on this home. It's been really tough going but, we're getting there. Hope you've been enjoying your time here. P.s the kids don't help at times for sure, its blooming hard, but one day they will we'll make sure of it, although Leo has really chipped in at times.
When you live in an old property as I do, you will find you will have to get used to leaks. They are a huge nightmare to fix in finding the source. I'm very impressed with what you have all achieved. Well done. I wish you well for the future.
Cracking video as always, the roof is coming along well . If i was you i would trim the tree back on the backside of the annex and for the rain run off on the road put your kerb and drain at 45 degrees from the house so the water can use its own energy to push away to the edge. keep up the good work.
You're right, we do need to trim back that tree! We've already begun :)
Wow Will is a top mate!!!!
Oh man, he was so helpful and willing to get stuck in!
Hello there! Noticed you have a large shrub or maybe it’s some kind of tree right up against the side of the house and pushing against the roof. You might want to be thst out before it’s roots work into the foundation as it will be so destructive to the house.
Yes, your right on patching up the roof on the barn to preserve the building as you need it and could park your car in there eventually. Work from the roof down, replace any joists roof when you can as it’s your only safe haven there with house especially.
With both of you working hard you’ll get there. Keep motivated in winter too as then it’s inside repairs.
Have a happy Christas season! Keep you and your family healthy and well during the long winters there. Be thankful for each other. All the best, Maureen.
We are cutting them down as we speak! Using them for wood for this year and next year as some of them are already dead. Thanks Maureen.
Thanks.
Thanks again ❤️❤️❤️
A similar hail storm caused a wooden structure of my village house to collapse. I wasn't there to see it but apparently the collapsing sound REALLY startled the neighbor. Nasty weather thingy.
Hail storms are savage when they come! Won't be long until they're back either.
Been following you since the start. Love the videos. Had to mention, those roof sheets look like Asbestos you're using for the compost heap walls? Look to see if its marked NAC then you'll be sure its not or please get it tested if you can't see the markings
If it’s on the roof isn’t it likely to be in the walls too?
Yeah, they are asbestos. We're aware of it. We try not to create any dust with them, but for now, they serve a temporary purpose. Thanks for folllwingnus! We appreciate it a lot.
@@frombournemouthtobulgaria - 3:27 ... are you sure that those corrugated roofing sheets are not made from asbestos cement. I hope they are not.
Well done mate! Hard work and persistence will pay off!
Thank you Kevin ♥️
@@frombournemouthtobulgaria you are most welcome 🙏
Amazin job!
Greetings from Hull x
love the channel good luck .Thanks! adi
So glad you enjoy it, and thanks for your donation! It really means a lot ❤️
Wow, you just made it before the rain, major difference.👍
Thank you!
Not sure if anyone has suggested this to you but you should really look into no dig beds… you won’t have such a massive weeding problem. Charles dowding is a legend!!
You're 100% right, we really need to do this, we have looked into it!
Great to see more progress on the roof, good job
Thank you ♥️♥️
Good job so far given how little money you guys have. I know its not easy but eventually you will be able to look back at all the difficulties you have had and be proud of everything you have accomplished with the help of your friends. Good luck for the next stage of your adventure!! Hope you all have a good christmas. Take care 😊
Thank you so much, we're working so hard to make it work and sometimes it is tough. But the money will come in time, for now, heads down, keep working! We appreciate you watching, commenting and following us so much. Thank you.

Hey! If you head over to our patreon, you will see an update post (we have a free version of patreon too) we haven't posted an update anywhere else just yet. But we are working on it! We've had some frustrating news that's just made things take a little longer.
if you not put roof membrane, hidro isolation under, will never stop leak, when wind blow,is not expensve,if you put it by yourself,2 3 days max,for 2 peoples work :)
We have plans for this in the future, just not right now, finances are stopping us.
I finally found your village - M***ovo :)
Shhh
I know by the time I’m commenting on this video it’s been out for quite some time but your gully across the road to stop the water running down into your tank, would work better if it ran at 45% to just steer the water off the side not trying to stop it dead and go 90° to the flow.
Interesting! That's definitley infor worth knowing, thank you!
Are you guys far from Lom Cherkovna? There is friend of mine he already there for over 10y just wonder if u guys might know each other🤔
We're not, we're a lot closer to the greek and turkish border in Haskovo :)
23:08 what is that for what you are holding in to? :)
It's generally for power lines into the building. 😊
😊👍💪🍀🏠
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am from Bulgaria, in which village are you staying?
We choose to not say publicly for now, but we're in the haskovo region. 😊
Could you not divert the water running down your driveway temporarily with sandbags
What is will's trsff ,job ??
He actually does upholstery for boats in the UK. But he's very handy in general, we're very similar in that we can put our hands to most things.
That looks like asbestos
Yeah we're pretty certain it is.
How are the locals are they friendly?
They're lovely!
ask your Neighbours if they have animals you can get some animal shite. You can get a free good compost from the wood as well its for free.If you animal shite don't put too much because you can burn the vegetables in the summer 😉
Thanks! That's exactly what we've done :)
Hi what area are you in
Haskovo Region ☺️
@@frombournemouthtobulgaria can you narrow it down without divulging your location ...cheers
Near the Turkish border ☺️
Enjoy watching your Chanel but maybe it would help if you got a job to help subsidise your repairs and renovations ? At least until you get enough patrons to pay for it all ?
Jobs are not so easy to come by here. And both of us have been working, we're just not earning a huge amount, but we have a plan, we know what the plan is, though for now, we do what we can and we take it day by day. Some people come here with mounds of cash, some with nothing, we have come with very little and know how long this journey will take, but everything will pan out just fine in the long run 🙂 As they say, you get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it. We've been here for just over a year, and we've achieved probably more than most people expected from us given the houses original condition. All in good time ♥️
Please, do not come to Bulgaria. Here you could be get hurt in car accident or be eaten by stray dogs. GOOGLE this news: A pack of dogs killed a woman in the town of Dolna Oryahovitsa. For same money you can find house in Spain.
Mate 😂😂 What planet are you on
@@frombournemouthtobulgariacomunists that have never traveled think only in Bulgaria crime and corruption exists and apparently - cars!?
