Hi all, just getting back into the hobby now, bought myself a little Portapak, a really cheap little second hand crt am/fm set and dug out my rotel rvc240 from the loft. I've been looking at sets with ssb (which I have never used) on them like president grant 2 etc and just wanted to try and work out the best of the new bunch considerations to cover UK, Europe etc?
If you want 100% legal UK radio then the President Mckinley is worth a look. If your willing to on the dark side ten the CRT6900N or CRT 9900 take a lot of beating. Welcome back. Lots of advice CB video's on my channel.
Hi Fred - Great video - can you give us some info a complete set for a beginner , had the old fm back in 81 ..... Do like the look of your SS 6900N - leave it with you to reply Neil
By the way for future reference,, ssb power can be controlled by your mic gain ,, on most radios if you don't want to take the back off one ,, but you probably new that,, take care shane
Hi Tom. You will need the USB lead which you can buy on ebay cheaply. The connector is on the mother board inside. Then the harder bit of finding the software to re program it. ive no link for that sorry.
Ok fanx pal. Also, I've got the rig on a 10 amp power supply, but when I try to turn my rig power up above a quarter, the entire plug socket circuit breaker in my house trips out. Any ideas what the issue may be mate? I'm starting to loose hope at getting back on air propely day by day.
Hi Fred. Here`s one for you I am 65 and will be retiring this year Ex Trucker. I still have loads of my Cb`s from the 80s 90s.(ie) Mustang 1000. Harrier cbx. Binatone 5 star. Tristar 777. Tristar 747. and loads more. I am selling my house and going to live on a boat. So I will need a Marine Radio or will I. I have been looking at the Baijan bj 218. It would appear it can be programmed to Marine frequencys. I am just wondering if the CRT 6900N can be programmed to the Marine Frequencys. It would be interesting. I had Cbs in a narrow boat and was amazed at the distances i was getting 50 miles plus. I put it down to the Antenna being on a 70ft steel boat sitting in water. The SWR was right down.
good video thanks now I know how to get more power out of my one. good rigs you can a just the audio on the settings for the Mike to make it better 73s /163CT171/chris

Hi Fred I understand that you can switch from 10 to 11 meter by using your key or something how does that work please I’ve got the 6900n. Can you advise me what to do? Thanks 🙏
I dont know of any key which switches bands. It depends on how the radio bands A-E have been programmed. Normally band A starts a 26 MHz and E ends at the top of the 10 meter band high 29 MHz. F is normally reserved for the UK FM 40 band. Once your past 28.000 your in the Ham 10 meter band and need a Lic to transmit.
Hi there .. with high interest I am watching your channel since I re-started my short wave activities (10 & 11m using a Sirio Vector 4000 freshly mounted on my shed here at the lake of Constance/CH side).. very useful and clear info mainly for CB guys. Comment to this specific case: Driving up this radio to 40 Whiskeys seems risky to me, as I could not detect any heat sink on the output transistors ?? My Trx provides 50W with a quite large heat sink getting pretty warm on SSB QSOs. Anyway, I am eagerly wait for band opening june this year (MUV presently max 14 Mhz only). During old times (1990) , I remember 11m QSOs to UK with only 10 Whiskeys (,, read you BBC quality,, :-)) .. a frequent connection was to Sumerset Knights, operator SAM .. the specimen hunter. Hope he is still in good shape. All my 73 to you from 79HER213
Hi Mike. The CRT can become slightly warm (strangely near the mic socket) when used on long overs at full power. However the case is quite large and seems to handle cooling pretty well. Compared to the SS CRT9900 the 6900n is a fridge. 73's buddy.
Hi. Ive not really seen the DX10 but it looks like the Alinco 135. The 135 had the same features of the 6900 but overall was better made. The power output on the DX 10 looks less than the 6900N on FM though.
@@CB-RADIO-UK the Mike has only a plug with 4 holes and radio has socket with 4 pins unlike the mk1 President Lincoln. The 3 buttons on my CRT SS6900N do nothing??
Hi Fred, I am interested in doing cb as got a few friends that does it, I would like to get some info please; Can you use the 'ss6900n' on a ham license? Am I right in thinking with the license Is 1500w max?
That's fine Fred, just got another question on the ss6900n, when you SWR the radio, do you set the rf power knob full or half way? Can't find anything in the manual. Many thanks
Hi John. Yes seen these before. They are pretty much the same as a Baofeng UV 5R. They cover the 2m and 70cm Ham bands but can be programmed to work on the public 446 MHz PMR band. Need to be a ham for the 2m/70cm use. Not legal on PMR as they are 4- watts output. Not sure if you can unscrew antenna.

Fred sorry mate. Me again . Been looking at your back catalogue of uploads.. I think with these surface mounted radios. Almost any issues can be resolved via the service menu.
