- JPC-12 DX antenna from Banggood. Portable or a low stealth homebased antenna. In this video I set it up and tune the antenna for CB use on the 11 meter band. Available here. ban.ggood.vip/...
JPC12 Deluxe Shortwave Antenna Portable Multi-Band Antenna Quick Setup Lightweight Design Ideal for Field Stands Business Trips and Balcony Use
Take the coil off, adjust the whip only. Best results. I use this way for 10m band. 11m not too different. Very good vid Fred
I just use an extendable whip into a mag mount for 10/11 meters - works very well even on the wife's garden table when she is not around lol. The trick is the radials . 73
When you say "the radials" do you mean you cut them making them shorter?
@nul153 4x 2.5 meters long radials work for me ( copper wire). No trimming needed. Attached to skewers as ground spikes.
You can open the wires out to create 10 radials.
Very good video Fred , the antenna looks like a good solution for operators who cant have the big antenna on the house roof.
Great video and yes I've been looking at this myself, what a small world FRED. It took me back to the old days when I had a telescopic antenna on my car for CB, and it had a screw at the top obviously for the swr. But not seen them about for long time, because that was AM days so very stealth.its a shame that you have to lower it so much, but you got out and I'm impressed with the swr, thank you very much FRED, and take care of yourself and yours Alan. 💯👍
Very good Fred ! For that to tune on 11 meters no coil is needed. You just want 1/4 wave vertical . Thicker is better bandwidth . So just pusH in from top pushing in center section first . You friend gave you correct information. Trying some more ground radials may help. It depends on what in in the soil under the wire. Once you get under SWR under 1.5 it is good to go. That will work gread DX , a ground mount has low lake off angle to give a longer hop for DX. Nice ising the QT 60 and the QT 80 . Both are great radios ! I have the QT 60 and I love it. Great recieve on them with filters you can adjust . That the only down side of a nano VNA is the display hard to read outside. Give it a try on a SW radio. SWR does not matter . you tune that coil for best signal on radio . I find that T2LT antenna easy to set up. I just use a DX commander fiberglass pole . Just lean into a tree or strap to table of fence post. I talked to england from NY on that T2LT antenna. That is a 1/2 wave center fed dipole . No ground needed . Keep having fun trying different antennas. Do a video and share it with the world. It is all radio ! And you are doing good for the hobby ! We got SNOW in NY as well ! A small amount of snow in London is very pretty ! Just like a light snow in NY city ! With the Christmas lights is quite nice ! Cheers from NY !
Thanks and greetings from the UK.
I've used this antenna Fred on 20m & 40m for the last year and found it pretty good. It is very portable but I have mostly used it in a small back garden where it performs far better than I ever expected. Not thought to try it on CB, but unlike Hertfordshire there appears to be no CB users in South West England.
I appreciate that, because I'm looking for a portable HF antenna I can use when I eventually get an HF rig, both at home and on the road.
Another great video chap!! However, I do think that an M1ECC antenna would deliver better results with less air/ship miles from China. The best antennas in the world are manufactured on our doorstep chap.
Great wee portable twig, thanks for your review Fred 🌞📻
Looks handy for a trip up the hills or down to the sea
This antenna works great for long skip .. if you don't separate the ground radials and put them out in the direction you want your signal to go it allows a good takeoff angle.
I have mine setup for 20mhz up through above 60mhz.. swr is good .
Buy the capacitance hat and the longer telescopic whip for the top. Makes a HUGE difference in how quiet things are on SSB.
Really an enjoyable and interesting video mate. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Thats a cracking portable unit.
Great video Fred. Thank you.
As we get back from the eighties, lots of new stuff is coming out, and that antenna is something else. It's very portable, but as you say, very pricey. Looking at the other one, it seems okay, but you might have to put in add-ons to receive a good signal. As always Fred great reviews.
Yes the cheaper version (ive got it now) you have to supply your own lengths of wire. Its also only half as compact. however its half the price.
I looks like it is well made, out of nice materials.
Its a nice bit of kit.
Storm Bert killed my fiberglass gainmaster... and I came across these portable hf antennas on Ebay. Ordered a replacement gainmaster but upgraded to the 80 - 6 metre coverage as my main radio is a big widebanded yaesu ft-920.
I've got the Alinco DR135DX in the car, I might look into getting one of these portable antennas to have a play about with, be handy on fishing or camping trips!
Would be good to see more antenna reviews, either mobile or fixed...👍
I’ve been after a small antenna I could use in a hotel room window, this is great for outside but not for travel/indoor.
Very Cool! I Like That Antenna!
Works well into the other side of Russia on 10m with only 20w so should be good on 11m
Hi there Fred excellent video this antenna works well a little bit expensive but a great performer a great portable antenna for ssb and am l would give it 9 out of ten anyways thanks for a great video from raymond
Thanks 👍
I got one JPC 12 using on the CB band you'll need just one black extender and then the wip also fully extended, that's 1/4 wave
With a really long replacement 4m telescopic, all the sections and the loading coil it is possible to (almost) make a 5/8th wave at 11m.
That makes sense. Thanks.
nice bit of Kit i prefer the compact stuff
Try prop up the radials at the end so at an angle and note the difference
Aliexpress aka Alli Bubba has this antenna a lot cheaper than purchasing it through Bang Good. It covers 40 meter - the low portion of 6 meters. it is a tap coil design similar to the Australian Outbacker antenna. The can be purchased for around twenty dollars or so, more with a nice carrying case. What I would do when setting this up with an antenna analyzer, is when fully extended I would move the tap down three wrappes down on the coil. the top tap is the low portion of 6 meters. Will not work for US 6 meter band. Thar is 54 megahertz not 50 megahertz which is as far down as it is tuned for. It may be the fourth tap down. For information on tuning this antenna look at the Outbacker antenna manual. It tunes the same way and the directions might be a little clearer.
Seems a lot of money just for a 1/4 wave ground plane that can easily be made. Great video though Fred 👍
good test mate be ideal for camping
Yes I agree
As the coax will act as a radial it's best to use a line idolator at the radio end or your swr reading will probably be incorrect
handy where there are no trees to chuck up wire
Hi Fred I bought one the only thing is don’t use the extensions screw the whip straight to the coil
Yep they do work well on lower hf bands but its only 1/4 wave 5/8 wave much better but of corse bigger if
You can get your hands on a thunderbalt 10m 5/8th coaxl dipole put it on a 10m mast stick it virtical
It will be the best you ever used i use one all the time on 10m ive worked all over the world they cover 10m 11m and 12m 😊
Strongly agree i got a hawkins and a livewire
It's a good antenna. The coil doesn't like 600w ft8 though 🙈
I lost my starting early hours (winter slow) for work 05:00 cst 'Red eye Radio'. National talk radio here in the States. For my drive into work. FM radio. The local morning talk later, they are 🤤😴🤔🥱 That's radio related!
Fred. You gotta do a review on the Moonraker Titan.. £134 for a multimode ssb.
Very similar to the buddistick without the taps for the coil so it should work however I’m not sure on its efficiency on 11m. I used mine on 10m and 20m. 40m was a tad tricky and had to lay the counterpoise on the ground to get it down on 40m
Looks like a fun antenna. Happy Holidays All.

Hi, Fred Tnx 4 ur vids over de years. This 1 so good. I wonder if you have seen a Clansman Pineapple antenna? Made to auto tune from 30 -50 MHz. I use 1 across this band 4 Band 1 DX TV not to mention the extended Freeband up to 35MHz. Have you heard the Russian freebanders around 32MHz? Just by chance I got the whip section rods mixed up with others and extended the antenna by some 1/2 Mtr. 18" if you like. I then put it to use across 11 Mts and found it could auto SWR to a level I could use down to 25MHz. Happy Days. John.
Hu John. No antenna is new to me. Cheers.
Aliexpress £75 ATM was looking at the same kit last night.
AliExpress always seems to me to be significantly cheaper than Banggood. Should be called Bangnogood if you ask me.
I'd be interested to see how this works on a HAM HF rig. I don't have one as yet, but given my home QTH is pretty awful for noise on HF and I can't put anything huge on the side of my flat, a portable antenna is definitely something I'm going to be looking for
These work very well on 20 and 40 meters.
@CB-RADIO-UK Cheers mate, I noticed another comment say as much
I notice you adding the wire for a ground plane.... Is this only required when inserting into the ground?
Will i need to do anything for grounding, Once i get my 5/8 silver rod bolted up on wall?
Hi. No with your silver rod the pole and indeed the coax all adds to your ground plane.
Fred hello from the U.S . Serious question sir how or would this antenna work for Shortwave receive I'm into SWL and Always trying different compact antennas not able to roof or yard mount. Was wondering if this could work?....cheers from Alabama USA!!!
Hi. Yes with the induction tuning coil it will work on SW. As its tunable it should receive less noise that a wire as you can match the freqs closer. Being vertical I am not sure that it would out perform a wire though.
you made a 1/4 wave ground plane.
I was thinking the same thing.
Can you increase the ground for a better SWR?
Yes i used double strands for 5 radials but you could open them for 10.
Try a magic carpet!!
Those hammers are so cheap they make their own ^^
🎣
I am using the JPC-12 and I can get a low SWR on USB and LSB but on AM and FM my SWR jumps up to 6.0 , what am I doing wrong?
On 11 meters
Hi. Your low SWR on SSB is prob because there is no power being transmitted till you add audio so its almost impossible to test swr on SSB. On FM your are transmitting a solid carrier wave with the audio and that is your true swr. To reduce it try removing the tuning coil and make sure you separate all of the ground plane wires. Make sure the antenna is away from any solid structure and finally double check your coax connection at the PL239 plugs.
Have you tried the coil in different areas on the antenna see if things change
For 11 meters anything below the top setting sends the SWR above 3. The lower setting should work well for SWL.
Like the antenna going to look it up
i might get that antenna i have my groundplane only on 3 meter of the ground but i cant put it higher bc official i m not alout to put a antenna up,so this is might be a good antenna for me,so wat radio you have in the shed these days lol i asuming bc its winter you dont do video from the shed lol
Hi correct. Nothing radio wise in the shed till spring.
@@CB-RADIO-UK to bad i love your cb video,as for sw i dont hear much here even with a outside antenna
You're overall height should be around 2.7 metres. Where do you get your CB callsigns in the UK?
Hi see here. th-cam.com/video/tIZoYRtd-RU/w-d-xo.html
@@CB-RADIO-UK Thanks.
You want the slider right at the top
Yes thats where it ended up.
I bet that used to a pac-12.
Yes that was the orig.
Are there any antennas like this designed for 11m?
Not really any made just for CB.
Trying to much to look like a JRC product
Ha "old coca_cola"
Too much money for a no name antenna
Getting a ham license, which requires doing things properly, is very hard. Being an RC radio pilot seems to be the same, as we have to have a licence, be a CAA member, and answer questions. to get about 70% right.
Foundation ham is a piece of cake, a couple of hours study and then the test, and now you can transmit at 25W I think? Recently upgraded.
Drone operator certificate is the same, it’s all there in few pages of easy info. The multiple choice questions are a breeze.
A CAA Private Pilot Licence is where it starts getting tough, and there is a radio operator exam in there with some theory, as that’s all on AM of course.
Hey Fred. I am not sure you answer viewer questions? But here it goes. I am new to this hobby, watching a learning a lot before making any moves. Enjoying Websbr and all your videos 🙂. Here is my use-case: I live and work in the South of France and my kids are studying in Cape Town South Africa, where I travel very often. What would I need, if even possible, to be able to communicate using radio. A licence is a must I would guess., But what radio power would be needed? what BAND would be the best? what type of antenna? I would guess SSB is a must. What do you think? possible? Expensive as I would need double of everything?
Thanks for great videos keep up the great work and hoping you can guide me. Geoff.
Hi Geoff. You would certainly need a Ham radio licence. I think the best bands would be 20 and 40 meters depending on the time of day. As I am not a ham myself i cannot really comment on the best equipment etc.
