Paramahansa Yogananda: How to use mind power to ease pain

  • The best anesthesia against pain is your mental power. If your mind refuses to accept it, pain will be greatly lessened.
I have seen, at times when this body got hurt and felt severe pain, that if I put my mind at the Christ center-that is, if I identify myself more with God and less with the body-there is no pain at all.
So when pain comes, concentrate at the Christ center. Be mentally apart from pain; develop more strength of mind.
Mind power carries with it the unfailing energy of God; that is the power you want in your body. And there is a way to bring in that power. The way is communion with God by meditation. When your communion with Him is perfect, the healing is permanent.

    THE SRF LESSONS
The SRF Lessons teach you how to live a balanced and successful life by awakening your connection to the Divine. The SRF Lessons are a transmission of sacred knowledge that will uplift and transform all aspects of your life: a progressive, home-study program teaching meditation techniques and the essence of spirituality handed down through a renowned lineage of yoga masters - Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, Swami Sri Yukteswar, and Paramahansa Yogananda - and available to you.
The Lessons were originated by Paramahansa Yogananda. At the core of his teachings is a powerful system of meditation techniques: the Kriya Yoga science of meditation. This ancient science of the soul-to which millions have been introduced by Autobiography of a Yogi and other books by him-provides powerful methods for awakening higher spiritual consciousness and the inner bliss of divine realization.
From the very first Lesson, you receive definite methods by which you can experience the benefits of meditation immediately.
While building a solid foundation for deep meditation, you will learn three powerful techniques taught by Paramahansa Yogananda as necessary first steps in the comprehensive spiritual science of Kriya Yoga: Energization Technique and Exercises, Hong-Sau Technique of Concentration and Aum Technique of Meditation.

I cut out sugar, wheat, processed foods, fried foods, meats/dairy, foods from restaurants over 6 months ago. For health reasons, at first I felt like I was miserable from missing all these foods… but eventually I started feeling good, and mentally I felt like I had overcome a sort of addiction to these foods. Now, even when one of these foods is in front of me, I don’t want it. I simply don’t want to put it in my body. I could eat it if I wanted to, but I don’t want it. And now I see food in a whole new way. Food doesn’t control me anymore. I make the conscious choice of what I’m going to eat. It’s such a freeing thing, yet most of us eat on autopilot, allowing tastebuds, emotions and the food industry to make those choices for us.

This is a great video. It has so many valid points. I have observed some of these points in my own life.
The more I think about myself (my past mistakes, my present problems.. me.. me.. me..) the more miserable it gets.
This is also the exact reason I get happier when I get into a zone/flow state with some work or habit where I do not get a chance to think about myself.

Thank you for sharing this teaching, it confirmed what I just experienced today🙏I realized the same Truth from my own pain.
While I was running I experienced terrible pain in my spine, so I stopped and started doing chi-kung exercises to make it go away. During chi-kung I paid attention to the movement instead of the body and I felt the pain subsided, so I continued running, but because my focus turned back to my spine, the pain immediately came back again. This time I refused to stop again, rather I followed my inner voice, that said "you are not the pain"...at the moment when this realization occurred in me, I shifted my attention from the pain to the path I was running on, and I immediately transcended the pain, it completely gone while I was running.
Years ago, I had similar experience during meditation, however that time I transcended the feeling of fatigue, and even than I heard the same inner voice, that said "you are not the fatigue". There was a few times, when I was able to transcend the feeling of heat and ice cold as well.
A sufficiently quiet and powerful mind is indeed capable of seemingly miraculous things, but this is not a miracle, this is our True nature. God created man on His own image, so we are capable to overcome everything, even the most challenging situations can be transformed...we are Creators, just as God is.
We just have to meditate regularly to make our mind quiet and powerful enough, and gradually, day by day we will be able to reach our full potential by the Grace of God🙏💛🌄
We are all Blessed by the Infintite Lovefull Grace of the Lord who Gifted us with His Invincible Power🙏💛

How to make others to understand …. About the pain any pain …. That’s almost every day I help and try them understand that …but it’s more serious …. Everything has to come for the mind- to overcome the pain in every way …..whatever … be strong and live life with its everlasting meaning of the soul and the spirit …..🌞

This picture in your video of Paramahansa Yogananda, the one with him with a beard and a head dress is not Yogananda.
    It's Swami Vivekananda.

Fasting trains you to skip meals. Then when you eat again your body will pack on as many extra pounds as it can because it's trying to survive the next famine. So, now you're on your way to having an eating disorder that causes your body to react in the opposite way you wish it to.
Sorry, but boring Mother wisdom is what's best. Three balanced meals is what's generally correct for us.
You know who might want you fasting? The diet industry. Think about it.
The ego might want you to fast. Then you'll feel like you're really doing something spiritual that God and Jesus supposedly approve of.
Instead of fasting, maybe we should be focused on feeding the hungry.
