It may be that Walter is 'making due' with substandard equipment, including what Gundam Seed called 'Biological CPUs' Likely the missions he picks are quite risky, and so he keeps coming back to a CPU salesman, frequently enough it's remarkable. Of course, it might also be that Walter has to make due with things that can 'fall off the back of the truck' for his raids into Rubicon, as it is officially a forbidden zone. This would make sense of starting parts that are unimpressive and refurbished, like C4 621 itself. He doesn't care if it can communicate, Walter can just give orders and read the sensor data, as long as it is capable and obedient that's enough.

617 survived the mission but his body was trashed... his Body was destroyed but his mind was still functuonal. This Walter is obviosuly some sort of handler of ACs and walter dug him up and They removed the pilot's (617) brain and rebooted him as 621
If you recall one of the stickers for the collecters edition is a picture of a labotomy. The point of the labotomy is to seperate the two hemispheres of the brains by severing their connection in the frontal lobe. This results in well, a labptomite. Hardly human. Staring blankly. But most importantly no emotion. We allready know that due to procedures we will have no emotion but this seals the deal. The metal needle is suppusoed to be a much more accurate version of a labotomy. Ridding us of emotion but not of motor skills.
Deep cut with a voice matching but with the doctor basically being confirmed in both trailers with Walter it makes sense that one other character might be too. PS it almost seemed like that blue hound AC from the gameplay trailer sounded inquisitive when speaking of 621 so if it is true that they might be the same person(617) he might not remember his time as a time as a hound with Walter
With this trailer, I'm starting to wonder if all the pilots look like that while in the core. I've always thought that the pilots would have seats like in Gundam, but perhaps they don't even have that, perhaps they must be in the core, functionally serving as a lifepod or coffin. With how augmented 621 looks like, they might not be even be able to walk
I doubt every pilot in the game gets the same treatment we see in this trailer. We might have to wait for SDCC content to drop to see how the inside of an AC is designed
@@greyspot00 it definitely seems like the AC is functional at least in part with the pilot outside of the cockpit. However, the prevalence of all the wires makes me doubt that it is piloted remotely. Possible though.
I'm 90% certain that the voice doing the callouts in the story trailer who also says "Augmented human C4-621 has awakened." in the gameplay trailer is just a male-voiced AI. It's speech is too robotic to be anything else, and it makes sense in the context of the situations it speaks in.
To me the ac pilots seem to be like gholas from dune to me not because they possibly are clones but the idea of them regaining memories or humanity after key events to their character especially with the previous leaks calling coral melange this may be a path to draw some similarities from to theorize what is happening in game
That's a really cool idea. I was totally not thinking in terms of Dune when working on this, despite having drawn a lot of Dune parallels in past videos. P.S. The Duncan Gholas are one of my favorite characters in Dune.
@Varnix1006 Universal Themes, literary tropes that have been around since the first story’s. For example Michael Moorcocks books always focus on the eternal champion a character that is meant to fight for law or chaos in service of the balance. He always uses this in different ways for most of his books
100% agree. Without a compelling narrative, everything feels empty and dry. I saw one person complaining that there was no battle-royale mode announced for launch..... UGH :) Thank god for that....
great analysis as always! I just wanted to point out that the mech that protected the laser cannon seems to be the same model as the one from the gameplay trailer in which we are "Ready to climb the wall." and it also shows up in the first Ac6 trailer, breaking though some debris to confront an AC behind cover(after the pile bunker landed). Makes me wonder if that'll be a recuring enemy type/boss or just a common mech model used on Rubicon. Seems to be one of the few MTs that seem to be made to give an AC a run for its money.
Thanks! MTs have usually been designed for work first and repurposed for combat second. I think thats the same with the models you mention in the AC6 trailers. Mass produced working models repurposed for combat after the fires of ibis disaster
Great analysis! Nice catch on that frontal lobe thing, I think that's a very important part many missed. Cause the brain is such a complicated machine with so many functions and all. The surgery being on the frontal lobe makes a lot of sense to me; When the scientist says 621 is barely functional, I had interpreted it like "it doesn't talk or have emotions", kind of explaining why the player character is silent and all. But maybe that goes for every one of Walter's hounds. Or every AC pilot in general Anyways. I'm beyond excited, Jesus Christ
Our AC pilot is basicaly a corpse hanging by a thread to life and only follows commands of the handler.Thats why we can't talk for lore reasons in this one.
Also with all that we know now at the end of the first trailer you hear a lady say "let's see how far they can fly on borrowed wings" maybe you break free of the controle of Walter which was just resurrecting dead ac pilots to do his bidding thus the borrowed wings
Interesting I will have a look at it later. Also since from soft likes to bring up the god like and the divine what if in this sense armored core means armored soul with core referring to the soul part as the soul is seen as the core of who you are as a person kinda like ghost in the shell. Might be looking too deep into that one tho
619 is the only one whose vital signs are called. 620 loses signal after taking those hits and 617 is called down/lost(JP). There's a possibility 617, 618, and, 620 are all alive. Also unlike the EMP/assault armor of the first trailer and the gameplay trailer 617's charge coils go coral red just a bit before his pulse goes off. The last thing I picked up is the major focus on 617's red AC I and how it looks identical to the eye of the large tank who in turn looks right back at 617. This is also the same of the attack helicopters in the first trailer and other ACs seen except the blue hound pilot. Could be we're the C4 line but all opponents are the same base technology uploaded into different combat vehicles
617 is dead most likely as their AC stands on its knees showing no life signs at the final shot. At the end of the battle you can hear helicopter blades and and see their shadow on the ground. The one who is reporting to Walter might be in this helicopter.
Concerning Nightfall ; from software is a rather weird company that their most prominent marketing character sometimes has a very small role in the game. Remember ; AC Last Raven's cover AC was only an arena ranker in game (BJ / Cascade Range) . Nobless Oblige despite having his own cinematic trailer was only a minor side character in 4 / 4A. In souls series, the faraam knight in dark souls 2 was only a random armor set you found. Vyke was only a random invader in elden ring despite being the knight on the cover.... so my point is....Nightfall can be a major player...or he can be no one ....
This may be a small nod, though what with it being FromSoft I doubt it, but the core in the story cinematic looks to be the same core from the announcement trailer. Make of that what you will.
Most likely right about the 617 gone rogue. Notice the first cinematic trailer where the beat up AC is picking up parts from the snow. Left arm is not shown but the right arm is the same as the one 617 uses on the mission trailer. Probably left for dead, woke up later to find himself free to roam or picked up by some larger corporation.
Hey i dont know if i am the first to noticed this but i think i know what the doc did IS transfered 621's consciounesness into the A.C. that could explain the Pins in 621 they could be some sorry of neural recording probes that scan the neural pathways and translating them into code and the coral(or how its pronouced) could be used for some neural moderation or as a conductor for the neural signals, it Also explains why IS everybody treats him like an object because he IS now just software, it Also explains why the A.C. activated before 621 was inside
I saw a another Comment somewhere. Since the Hounds can't express anything. Perhaps When 617 was shoving the Minigun in the tanks face. He was screaming. Like subtle things to Truly express themselves
Maybe 617 was destroyed and rebuilt as 621. This explains why 621 body seems half burned. It was recovered from the battlefield after that self-destructive manuever. Walter probably payed the Doctor to prepare you to return to battle as a C4 Architecture AC that probably, is something like a "new generation" of pilots that controls the AC using their brains instead of standard system. In the gameplay released yesterday, Walter mention that destroy STRIKER would make a name for 621... I was wondering, maybe this is literal. A pilot is just a product, but along the career it become someone as Walter himself possible did in past events.
I watched JP trailer, the guy in the story trailer is not the same guy that said "Callsign raven" in gameplay trailer because the voice in gameplay trailer is more "robotic"
What I took away from this trailer? Is that if we protect Walter, we will become 9 ball? If we rebel against him, we will become 9 breaker. And I'm willing to bet that Walter is an AI. Because 6 2 1equals nine
Before the trailer, I assumed Walter is an AI, but this trailer suggests he is a human because of the shadow. But that shadow could be someone else. Or Walter might be like a replicant from Bladerunner or something. There are a lot of ways Fromsoft can still surprise us.
@absurd.gaming I know it's So nostalgic But because of the screenshots that they leaked with. What looks like a giant super computer? And now this. Just makes me think back to armor Core 2 and 3. So can not wait for this game. I hope it gets game of the year. And it's already looking like it's gonna be the first armored ever to score over a 7.
Thanks for this exposé!!! I LOVE the ArmoredCore franchise, but always low keyed kinda struggled with following the story line myself...just such a different style between Eastern and Western story telling. This vid definitely helped and can't WAIT to the see the "release" of the Hounds!!! 😁👍🏽👍🏽
I don't think 617 survived. The scientist (not calling him a doctor unless I see a license) asks Walter "What happened to 617 and the others?" No recovery, no medical aid, no knowledge of what happened. Oh well, another pilot broken. Just another broken part of the machine to be scrapped and replaced. And by the line "clear my inventory", Walter must burn through dogs very, very quickly. He has no interest in recovering pilots, he'll just get a new one. Kinda reminds me of a more cruel Gehrman.
The scientist wouldn't necessarily have an interest in 617 surviving. You are right in that he is not a doctor or on retainer for Walter. He sells products. Sometimes they break. He is likely more concerned about the reputation of his products than anything. Walter doesn't want to talk about it, so the scientist moves on. He WOULD ask though, because of the reputation aspect. He wouldn't know without asking, and obviously doesn't care to change the subject to his latest sale.
I hope the Story is a key point here and not vague, obscure, and open to "too much" interpretation...That this will be an engaging, focused, direct and character/world story driven game! My current understanding: 617 was destroyed but his/her consciousness, mind, persona and memories - were all embedded and transfused into 621. In order to maintain 617 skills, traits and combat potential and revive them within 621. That's not to say 621 is without his/her own memories, thoughts, feelings and identity.
That's certainly possible, especially since our designation is based on the AC model number. 617 doesnt have a name, they have a model number and that changed.
I'm kinda thinking that 621 is a clone.... perhaps with 617 memories, or it could be that they simply re-number 617 after augmentation... if I recall one of the past armored cores games would change you character every time you died, adding augmentations tell you were no longer human...
nice! 'congrats on 500 - Good Luck on your journey :) - Played some AC way back, younger days with controller, I wonder if it's viable to play with kb/m ?? ... if not then I need to get myself a good controller! haha
You know we're basically plused mercs for sell...with no awesome abilities though. I wish they gave us more about being plused up tho...Also, I am a Raven, sir, not a hound. 😊
I enjoy story more than gameplay. While I don't believe this game will blow me away, the story trailer at least got me wanting to play it. I think I played one armored core game before, and that was on the PS2. Actually, I know where it is so, brb…aaand done. It was Armored Core 2 I played before. Anyway. I hope this game will have a more grim story in the sense of how the player character is being talked about/to. Like being treated like dirt, but the player can't do anything about it. I hope it won't change, like so many Asian games I've played, where you go from "everything is depressing" to "we all love you!" within 2 missions. I hope it's something that stays for much, much longer. And I also hope there will be dialog where other, and more importantly, normal, people talk about the player character and what's happening. I don't know how the lore of the world is in any way. But from the trailer I got the impression that the player character is being transplanted into a machine, removing all human parts. And as the story trailer is happening while the, I believe, player character is on the table, I think it's because the player was one of the mech's battling forward. I hope the player character is a human-turned-ai where their memories are gone forever. And over the course of the game, the player regains their humanity in some way. But at the cost of understanding how bad their new life's become. But that's a lot of mileage I'm reading into a trailer. It's probably going to be a game first, and a story second. If a story at all. We'll see.
Makes me wonder if all AC pilots in VI are basically a human brain with an unusable body and what we see here is standard practice for AC pilots, or if this particular scientist and Walter are doing something wacky in-universe and most other AC pilots are normally functioning humans
it's a real shame that 617 turned out to be of utter insignificance to the story. some have speculated that 617 might actually be nightfall raven, but not just woud that require alot of time between events to be plausible in my eyes, nightfall itself didn't end up all that signifacant either. personally i've simply honored 617 by using his exact loadout to initially s-rank the cataphract mission. i really hope that a dlc will go back to this trailer and do something with it, be it 617 returning, 618 making an appearance or something. with how efficient AC6 tells its story it woud be a real waste to just leave this story ignored.
An interesting question, especially if our memory is affected by frontal lobe damage. I don't expect too much that who we were matters, as fromsoft has never made our characters identity a point of importance. But its fun to think about, and fromsoft can always shake things up. I am working on a theory there.
@@LikelyFeral I think it will be that way even when we have the game in hand. I know ACL has had his work cut out for him when it comes to lore for the older titles.
Amazing video. 11min became just 1. Just to add into the pool of theories, 6+2+1 = 9. Yeah, Nineball. In the end, could it be Nineball partnering with us?
Haha, yeah it does feel a lot shorter than it is. Idk that Nineball will show up in name or in body, but Fromsoft always has their nod to Nineball. I'm sure there will be a Nineball-esque character in the game.
Hey, I just watched the trailer but in japanese, which I dont understand at all but I heard the pronunciation for 621 which is roku - ni (nii?) - ichi, and that sounds like there could be some sort of wordplay, maybe theres a japanese word or term thats simmilarly pronounced or written for rokunichi or rokuniichi. Maybe If we thro the C4 pronounciation but I don't know how they would say it.
Idk enough Japanese to speak on that, but I know there are some folks here that could. You could also ask in the ACL discord. He does a lot of translating for Armored Core Lore videos.
In the gameplay trailer and the demo footage, we have a female operator. Although, this setting doesn't feel sexy enough for me to think in terms of waifus rn lol.
Great brakedown! Not sure if any one else noticed this yet but in the very first reveal trailer at th-cam.com/video/kKO1s-CUZvY/w-d-xo.html the very first AC we see looks like the same deisgn as the Hounds and it seems to be salvaging a new left arm with its right arm. Could this be 617, left for dead by Walter and now scavaging the desolate planet for spear parts to staty alive?
@@absurd.gaming I understand that. It's Not that the concept is bothering me, It's because I personally have a problem with numbers, sadly... Good video though !
@@juliusperseus8612 the number designations act as a way of dehumanising us, making us into expendable tools to get the mission done. I suspect we break free from this conditioning in the story and get our own names hopefully.
So basically it's anti-bloodborne story If Bloodborne is about "non person" experiencing lovecraftian horror then AC is "non person" .... overcoming addiction horror of the crystal clear brain vs. addicted dog
AC6 Pilot, in the story trailer, that is a Vacuum Bag body bag. They are used to hold human remains that are fragile and need to be stabilized for transit.
I think 617 died too due to the fact that his AC was breaking down by the end & the force of using a full Assault Armor bombing at that point doesn't do it or the pilot any favors, with its head gone & Core cockpit broken in the aftermath. That said I won't be surprised if he actually survives & appears for realsies in the game.
I think that canyon, or the cannon/fortress itself is 'The Wall' from the gameplay trailer. People tend to give simple names to geographic features. Alternatively, that was one 'chink' in the armor of a vast defensive network given that title.

As much as I wanted gameplay this just blows my mind, it’s excellent if this doesn’t convince ppl to try it idk what will. Great vid man 🤟
Thanks! The trailer is so dramatic. Its gonna hook a lot of people.
I dont know if 617 is alive, to me it seemed like the primal armor detonation was almost like an escape for it
It's definitely not a sure thing. But I've got a feeling.
I do recall that and built a video around it. Check out Dogs on a Leash.
Thanks for putting this together! Got me even more pumped about this game then just the first two trailers.
I'm glad the hype is contagious!
Dang, you did a lot of research on this one. I agree with a lot of what you are saying
I try to put in that work too, tho I am no 617!
Something I found interesting is the phrasing 617 uses is very similar to the UNACs from Verdict Day.
Talk of combat phases and patterns.
Makes sense. These ACs aren't "manned" either.
Frontal lobe damage could def affect memory. Like in FNV when you do low mental stats and Doc Mitchell comments on frontal lobe damage.
These ACs seem relatively small compared to previous games, so it would make sense that the core is less of a cockpit and more of a life support pod.
That's very possible. My gut instinct was that the voice was familiar.
That’s cool! Don’t take this the wrong way but my favorite character has to be Leto II 😂
"Regaining humanity"
Dark Souls all over again innit?
@@varnix1006 Some themes are just too good to let go
@Varnix1006
Universal Themes, literary tropes that have been around since the first story’s. For example Michael Moorcocks books always focus on the eternal champion a character that is meant to fight for law or chaos in service of the balance. He always uses this in different ways for most of his books
A good breakdown Absurd and ah taking us back to ac3 there.
AC3 is so good. Its still stuck in my brain.
The fact the doctor asks about what happened to 617 and the others implies 617 was also killed, or is missing in action.
I think 617 went MIA or Walter simply didn't bother with recovery of his hound. That's part of why I think 617 will comeback later.
100% agree. Without a compelling narrative, everything feels empty and dry. I saw one person complaining that there was no battle-royale mode announced for launch..... UGH :) Thank god for that....
"Walter" is also missing his left arm. The same arm the AC loses in the trailer.
I went frame by frame with him walking in and the arm is there. It looks like his hand is in his pocket. It may be damaged though, like his leg.
Fun fact, 618 is the hound that Sulla fought before 621 which is why it is not at the mission in the trailer
great analysis as always!
Nice catch on that frontal lobe thing, I think that's a very important part many missed. Cause the brain is such a complicated machine with so many functions and all. The surgery being on the frontal lobe makes a lot of sense to me;
When the scientist says 621 is barely functional, I had interpreted it like "it doesn't talk or have emotions", kind of explaining why the player character is silent and all.
But maybe that goes for every one of Walter's hounds. Or every AC pilot in general
Anyways. I'm beyond excited, Jesus Christ
Its really cool that we get a solid lore reason for playing a mute character.
@@absurd.gaming It'd be the second time too, since AC 4 had the injuries as why Anatolia's Mercenary was silent.
@@Sorain1 yeah, that always felt more like an excuse than a reason to me lol. It's a fine excuse but not a very high effort one.
Our AC pilot is basicaly a corpse hanging by a thread to life and only follows commands of the handler.Thats why we can't talk for lore reasons in this one.
Good observation.
Also with all that we know now at the end of the first trailer you hear a lady say "let's see how far they can fly on borrowed wings" maybe you break free of the controle of Walter which was just resurrecting dead ac pilots to do his bidding thus the borrowed wings
YES! I speculated this in a previous video. Check it out on my channel if you are interested. It's the one about the consumer survey leak.
Interesting I will have a look at it later. Also since from soft likes to bring up the god like and the divine what if in this sense armored core means armored soul with core referring to the soul part as the soul is seen as the core of who you are as a person kinda like ghost in the shell. Might be looking too deep into that one tho
"Callsign Raven" and "You know I'm not exactly craving company here" That's Todd Haberkorn my guy.
Nice attention to detail! This stuff is so exciting
618 was killed by the laser while dashing off the ridge, 619 got killed after launching his missiles.
618 is never seen or mentioned in the trailer from what Ive seen. do you have a timestamp for this?
This may be a small nod, though what with it being FromSoft I doubt it, but the core in the story cinematic looks to be the same core from the announcement trailer.
Make of that what you will.
It does indeed. I'm covering that in my next video.
Oh brother we know fromsoft. We are definitely fighting a supped up 617
But I don't wanna eat a minigun.
Maybe Walter was being literal. The Wall is literally a wall... which surprised me. This could be like that too.
Another great video. Can't wait for launch!
Bro, I hope you become the next Vaatividya. keep making these great videos.
Haha, I'm a long way from that. But this comment and others like it are very inspiring.
Glad you enjoyed it!
"our prayers got answered"
we got For Answered
If Walter only names his hounds after their core part, then that makes sense.
bro I'm watching this after release and Rusty is NOT 617. (wait maybe so)
I don't think he is now either, but who knows
wait maybe that could be cool for the lore. pls make a video from that pov maybe tat would be cool@@absurd.gaming
nice! 'congrats on 500 - Good Luck on your journey :)
- Played some AC way back, younger days with controller, I wonder if it's viable to play with kb/m ?? ... if not then I need to get myself a good controller! haha
Thanks so much. 500 is a big milestone. It will be interesting to see what the defaults are for kb/m. I bought a controller though haha.
Me: my pronouns are-
Walter: "don't care, shut this thing up!"
Ya he's a bad dude
so we're not even human? just some consciences in a metal body?
You know we're basically plused mercs for sell...with no awesome abilities though. I wish they gave us more about being plused up tho...Also, I am a Raven, sir, not a hound. 😊
Fantastic video!! I love this
Thank you so much!
I think Walter and his hounds are a special case for the most part.
it's a real shame that 617 turned out to be of utter insignificance to the story. some have speculated that 617 might actually be nightfall raven, but not just woud that require alot of time between events to be plausible in my eyes, nightfall itself didn't end up all that signifacant either. personally i've simply honored 617 by using his exact loadout to initially s-rank the cataphract mission.
i really hope that a dlc will go back to this trailer and do something with it, be it 617 returning, 618 making an appearance or something. with how efficient AC6 tells its story it woud be a real waste to just leave this story ignored.
Fantastic video. I adore your AC content. Defintely get my Sub.
Good to hear. Glad to have you aboard!
We are truly no longer considered human. My question is, who were we before this.
An interesting question, especially if our memory is affected by frontal lobe damage. I don't expect too much that who we were matters, as fromsoft has never made our characters identity a point of importance. But its fun to think about, and fromsoft can always shake things up. I am working on a theory there.
@absurd.gaming so many things to theorize about. Masters at giving you JUST ENOUGH context that you figure out you don't actually know anything.
@@LikelyFeral I think it will be that way even when we have the game in hand. I know ACL has had his work cut out for him when it comes to lore for the older titles.
Both of those sound very plausible! I assumed that it had died in phase one as well. I mentioned 618 was probably dead in the video
Yes, very strong H+ vibes here.
This is way more messed up than i previously thought
definitely a surprise
Man, this was great! That's all I can say.
That's all I ever needed you to say, lol
Salute And Cheers To All Souls And Ravens
Youre wrong, the scientist is just Steve Buscemi
Also can we expect our personal female waifu operator? Anybody know any information about that?
In the gameplay trailer and the demo footage, we have a female operator. Although, this setting doesn't feel sexy enough for me to think in terms of waifus rn lol.
So no more ravens? Just hounds?
We know there will be at least one "raven"
Great brakedown! Not sure if any one else noticed this yet but in the very first reveal trailer at th-cam.com/video/kKO1s-CUZvY/w-d-xo.html the very first AC we see looks like the same deisgn as the Hounds and it seems to be salvaging a new left arm with its right arm. Could this be 617, left for dead by Walter and now scavaging the desolate planet for spear parts to staty alive?
That would be really cool, I'll have to do a deeper look at both to see if that could be an AC or if its a worker MT like I previously thought.
Welp, turns out the theories aren't true.
I don't know if you've ever played Armored Core before, but you probably made up more plot points in the game is actually going to have in total.
I have played lots of AC.
All those Numbers gonna really bother me to comprehend the story.
I hope they revolt and make their own choices and re-become Humans...
I'd be very surprised if that wasn't an option. Though, I doubt itd be a happy ending regardless based on fromsoft's history.
@@Corusame I got that...
So basically it's anti-bloodborne story
If Bloodborne is about "non person" experiencing lovecraftian horror
then AC is "non person" .... overcoming addiction

AC6 Pilot, in the story trailer, that is a Vacuum Bag body bag. They are used to hold human remains that are fragile and need to be stabilized for transit.
Yeah, definitely looks like 621 was in some sort of cold storage.
First Comment
First Raven
Name checks out 👍 lol
@@Julez60 I didn't even think about that 😂
I think 617 died too due to the fact that his AC was breaking down by the end & the force of using a full Assault Armor bombing at that point doesn't do it or the pilot any favors, with its head gone & Core cockpit broken in the aftermath.
That's a good point!
