My grandmother's sister luckily was able to flee Iasi during the Pogrom of 1941 to Bucharest. Her family who were living in Botosani only 50 miles away were lucky. They were ordered in 1943 to get knapsacks and good walking shoes ready for deportation to Transistria. One day before Antonescu, ordered that the deportations orders be canceled. The Chief Rabbi of Romania had warned Antonescu that if Germany lost the war he would be considered a War Criminal. Germany had been defeated in Stalingrad and it looked as if they would lose. The lives of 20,000 Jews of Botosani was therefore saved at the last minute.

A good novel from this period of time when Upper Transylvania was ceded to Hungary can be found in Gizelle Hersh's book "Gizelle, Save the Children." Gizelle and her 3 sisters survived Auschwitz to bear witness to the brutality of the Nazis.
My family is Greek-American, and I had close relatives - including my mother, aunt and grandmother - who suffered under the Nazi Occupation. Although we are Christian, I stand with the Jews and with Israel. Shalom!

Ana Pauker was very close to Stalin, Alexandru Nicolschi also came with the red army, Bodnaras and so on...Also doesn't matter how much you want Antonescu is seen by most as a war hero! Elie Wiesel institute stated at one point that whatever romanian will be wearing the traditional outfit to be labelled as fascist and prosecuted! You hit in the roots of the romanian people but this is not seen as extremist, isn't it? Barbara Lerner Spectre calling for the destruction of Europe isn't extremism isn't it?

I'm Just Pointing Out These Facts That I've Looked Into At Different Moments In My Life, I'm Sorry If I'm Going Off Topic.
Romania Had What Was Called The Iron Guard, Bulgaria Had What Was Called The Union Of Bulgarian National Legions, Hungary Had What Was Called The Arrow Cross Party, Italy Had The Originating Fascist Party, Austria Had What Was Called The Fatherland Front, Germany Had The Nazi Party, And Croatia Had What Was Called The Ustasa.
The Reason I Make This Comment Is Because This Particular Video Points Out Details Of The Holocaust In Romania, Yet The Name Of The Country's Fascist Party The Iron Guard Wasn't Really Mentioned.
I'm Sorry For Sounding Critical, Like I Said, I'm Just Pointing Out What I Know. And If There's Anything Else I'm Missing, I Apologize.
May All Of Those Who Were Murdered In The Holocaust Sleep Peacefully, Especially The More Than Six Million Of Europe's Jewish Population. May They All Find Justice And Closure.

That's a good point. We should definitely remember under what names people were killing the jews under. Especially when there are efforts in some countries *Ukraine and Finland and Poland and Estonia* to rehabilitate and whitewash their names.

Very well spoken. you also sound very well learned (and known) in matters of history and historical events and happenings, along with your own personal knowledge and flair to certain happenings within your family. If you are perhaps "off" a little bit of events and the years and dates, etc. its ok, its History, and history is not totally 100% correct nor complete, as historians and more, the survivors who had experienced everything (inside & outside) of those gates of Hell, who were lucky enough to survive and tell their stories, can only tell from a personal view and prospective of what they encountered and remembered, as best they could remember while trying to survive. We are only human, "they", the survivors and story tellers, and their families passing-down their stories, can only tell what they know. So there need be "No" Sorry's, in any of these stories told. If there are discrepancies with viewers opinions on here, they should mind their "Manners". Its NOT a History Blog. Its history told by families through generations, with too few survivors (of thousands), and their liberators. of what horrible, historical event had happened in a dark evil time in history.. Passing down precious words.. "It Happened"... and, "Never Again"!

It was too convenient for anti semites to target all Jews as "something bad" based on a mere minority involved with things that aggravated many. How could anyone even go so far to harm children and babies for any of their suspicions is beyond me! At least adults have the capacity to fight back, run

Yes, there was some Jewish collaboration with the Soviets. No, the vast majority of the Jews did not collaborate. No, the vast majority of the NKVD at that time was not Jewish, as they had already been purged and killed by Stalin. No, the Jews in the NKVD before did not spare fellow Jews they targeted for being bourgeois, religious, for personal reasons, etc.

@@melanievanderbril7599 See, this is the garbage I'm refuting. First of all even if that were true that wouldn't justify murdering other people because of this. Secondly, no, Stalin wasn't, and Lenin had one Jewish grandparent if I recall. Lenin suffered an assassination attempt by a Jewish woman who was then executed because of it. It's also worth noting that many tens of thousands of Jews (as well as thousands of other people in the White Terror) were murdered during the Russian Civil War 1918-1923 by the anti-communists so the Bolsheviks were definitely not the only baddies in this war. Anyway both of them (Stalin and Lenin) murdered or otherwise caused the death of ordinary Jewish people by the tens of thousands (as well as former Jewish regime personalities). Stalin died while he was probably planning to murder thousands more in one of his typical ethnic purges, after the "Doctor's Plot" and "Anti-cosmpolitan campaign".

It proves that every part of the world has large numbers of individuals who will, at different periods in history, resort to the worst evils that can be inflicted on other human beings. Unfortunately, during that time, all over the world there were groups aligning themselves with the Nazis as well, although not often officially.

Russians have done some awful stuff, most of Russia IS in Asia, Tuva is Asia, I know this seeing as half my family is from there. China isn't kind to Uighurs. I live in Glasgow, Scotland and we are great here. If you need help here, people come to your aid, Scottish people will give you the coat off of their backs. There's daft drunks of course but the vast majority of people here are great. Have you been to many places in Europe? They won't eat you, I promise you
