- Beavercraft is a Ukrainian company making budget-friendly knives. Here is my experience with two of their lineup -- the Dune and the Dusk. The Dune might be my non-plastic replacement for a Mora!

BPS knives might also be worth a look at. Another similar Ukraine made, small company, "mora replacement" so to speak with lots of models. I discovered the brand searching for that exact criteria and bring it out when I want something smaller (1 lb lighter) than my BK2 and don't plan to be doing excessive batoning, but they make all sorts of sizes. That BK2 is almost more of a knife/hatchet hybrid so nice to have something more in the range of a robust for size but wood, leather, and steel and a sharp 90 on the spine. You saw mine briefly when we were carving that fireboard few years back, not sure if you recall. Enjoyed watching!
Nice! I'll have to check them out. Yes, I remember your BK2 -- that definitely looked like a versatile knife. I appreciate a knife that can carve but also be used for heavier work =)
I have a Dune too, I like it also. Very sharp, good size blade and handle - good for chopping and carving
Nice! I really do like its chopping capabilities, and it's so easy to sharpen to a shaving edge.

Beavercraft (great name BTW) is definitely into woodcarving tools and, for some reason, Ukrainian knife companies are really into 1066 steel. I already had my mind set on another knife for a more traditional looking knife but they have really great prices on everything. I may just end up buying some woodcarving set from them, thank you for this review.
I have heard good things about their woodcarving tools. I haven't been able to experiment with them myself, but if you do try them out, let me know what you think!

Morakniven, which is a swedish knife by the way, is a use and abuse kinda knife. It's very good and pretty much every craftsman here in sweden, from carpetenters, painters, truckers and every farmer has a set of mora knives. That way you don't ruin your more expensive knifes, of which I have a lot.
Yes -- we often call them "Mora Knives" here in the US. Incredible knives!
I love my beavercraft. I blued the blade and true oiled the handle on mine. Cant stand that raw wood feeling when it gets damp. Its like fingernails on chaulk board. But the blade came shaving sharp and holds the edge through some serious abuse. Bps and beavercraft both give the best bang for your buck. I love my moras also but that rat tail tang just kills them for me. I know you can get a mora in full tang but your gonna pay for it. Another cheap knife that ive been really impressed with is flissa. Pretty much a mora clone but i actually like it more than my mora companion. Ive abused that thing cutting dry cured pecan and ash and oak and its still razor sharp after 6 months. I keep it in my truck for just random stuff and emergencies. I got that with a folding saw for like 20$. The saw has been awesome too. Cuts cleaner than my silky pocketboy. The silky is a little "grabby" when trying to cut hardwoods. The flissa just glides clean through.
Hi there...at least its a wood handle and leather sheath..for me a knife needs to be wood steel and leather and if possible handmade so there is a connection of the maker to the user ...that way the skills and the imagination of the maker can be better appreciated ... I just made my self a Mocotaugan..

Honestly surprised those knives don't cost more than that given what things tend to cost nowdays. The Dune looks like a good option, even vs the other more expensive one, although hopefully Mirabelle can get some good use out of it. My question on the other one would be if the saw blade on the back is good with small branch clearing.
No, it's not a saw -- just "jimping" -- non-sharp ridges that are meant to give your thumb or finger a grip on the spine.
@@ReWildUniversity Oh gotcha. You'd like that knife my dad made. He took a fully tool steel 24" blade (many blades are just tool steel along the cutting edge) for a cutting machine w/ basically a heavy duty hack saw type blade and made the opposing back side the sharp knife side to a point and made a wood handle for it. They are hard to find where the WHOLE blade is tool steel vs just the cutting edge, but are way more durable. Pretty home-brew looking, but pretty cool nonetheless.
Good points! What is the thickness on the Dune blade? The edge it has over Mora is it has a full tang.
I'm measuring at 3/16" or 4.75 mm. Yes, that full tang is always appreciated.

@@nunyabizness3882i have the bsh1. The scooped handle is very ergonomical. I've been using it to cook, to log more hours getting used to it, and the corrosion resistance isn't great (although I've been using olive oil to oil it as an experiment). And there has been some pitting on the blade.
But that's to be expected, honestly. It throws good sparks, and to be honest, I did research the steel, and part of why I chose it was that I could sharpen it without special tools.
For a person with particular attributes that they look for, i think I made the right choice.
TBH, i have beavercraft and BPS knives and prefer the BPS due to fit, finish and quality

The Mora knives might be just perfect for you then -- they use a poly for the sheath and handle. Super well-made, very inexpensive, ultra durable.
Try BPS knives. cheers
