You have the perfect car (sti) for winter driving. I can honestly say that, having owned Audis (s4, s3). I am driving my 4th sti nowadays (06-09-15-19), there is simply nothing south of 90,000$can that can beat this (rich rally heritage, great STI brotherhood, fun, manual, powerful, balanced, seats 5, big trunk, can hold 4 bikes on top, …) the only thing missing is an adjustable damping system . It could be manually or electronically controlled.
I have both RWD (brz) and AWD (outback xt) and love both for different reasons - but there is nothing as fun as going out in the snow (with winter tires) in the RWD BRZ!!!!! (Trac off)
I grew up with rear wheel drive. The first family car I drove was a ‘62 Buick Invicta station wagon. I lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan which gets some nice snow. We never had snow tires on it. Later years I drove front wheel drive. Never had all wheel drive. I did and do have selectable four wheel drive pickup trucks. I never had studded tires. Used chains. I have had chains on all four tires. It would be fun to test all types on that course.
My preference depends on why, where and with what passengers I'm driving. By myself on a road with no traffic RWD but that's not the reality I live in so my car is AWD. Both can be a hoot as long as you avoid those electronic nannies & modern transmissions that omit the third pedal;)
I’m sure there are a lot of Subaru owners here but I believe rwd has more control than awd as far as make adjustments mid drift. and as far as which is faster awd has an obvious advantage accelerating in slippery conditions however rwd doesn’t over use the front wheels so less understeer into and through a corner, therefore it’s easier to maintain speed while turning and is faster as long as accelerating out of a turn isn’t traction limited.
I prefer rear wheel drive. Like Patrick said with longer wheel studs and traction control, more traction means faster speeds but not necessarily more fun. I feel that applies to driven wheels as well. It also helps teach the driver how to more fully control the car.
I just missed the winter season with AWD but im not unfamiliar with 2wd snow driving in my Dakota. Fun but damn sketchy when you're trying not to drift but have to to make a corner especially with a drop off lol. Cant wait to try my new old impreza out in the icy weather
Not fair. I can't have 400 studs per tire. Without that it won't be close. Two different worlds. Flat out Hoonigan driving on a safe course with few consequences. Rwd Mountain driving with a cliff on one side and a rock wall on the other. Awd Best of both worlds, selectable awd or rwd. Beautiful snow track. Can we all play? Even awd needs a yank out if you stuff it in the snowbank.
this guy is from Sweden and he actually said the safety systems are faster? This has to be a hoax. Everyone knows traction control and stability control slow you down on ice. They're safer but they aren't faster. When there is little grip sideways is the fastest way around a track
I have and its sketchy in bad weather. Especially rain and trying to go up hill is quite a different feeling in a fwd. Buuut also they wont drift or powerslide quite like the fun awd/rwd cars or trucks in the snow or dirt or of you're crazy asphalt.
If you’re trying to make your tires to feel like you’re driving on pavement while you’re on ice, then why not just go drive on pavement -shrugs-...half the fun is letting loose with the grip and sliding all around
Which do you prefer to drive on snow and ice? Rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive?
Awd
All-Wheel Drive all the way :)
Awd
Rearwheel drive is fun but its not awd fun
Driving BRZ on snow and ice it's amazing!

As a 2016 WRX STI owner I appreciate your input.
@@bobbyswain1983 2018 owner here and you are on the money! esp with a couple specific mods for efficiency and longevity these things can last forever.
All wheel drive.....because I drive on the road and I like to stay on the road when the road conditions get slippery.
I agree but good winter tires is more important than what wheel is driven.
Yes, AWD doesnt keep you on the road, good tires do
@@maximecyr9926 and can get you up to speed better but all that matters is your tires when doing anything else
AWD by far. Love it. Subaru is #1 in that department
AWD is the best in all weather conditions ❄️🌨❄️
RWD for fun
AWD for performance
I think AWD is way better than RWD in my opinion!!!
Video starts at around 3:23
Thank you!
As a owner of both cars,I love them both
Nice stuff man. I love the drone stuff and crispy footage of the STI. Been a good year for ice driving!
#AWD all the way!

2 pedal is driving isn’t driving, it beeing drived by the car!
@@eriknowosielski-lamoureux3140 2 pedals is great...for bicycles but not cars;)
awd nothing like it.
Basically AWD gives you more control but ultimately it's all on tires.
Basically, you nailed it. AWD will help you out but at the end of the day every car stops the same if they are on shit tires

That's a gorgeous b-roll drone shot over the trees. So beautiful. So tasty.
Thank you for this video and showing us a viewer who is thinking about buying one of these options of cars.

Right.. sure..
Up hill is harder on RWD and difficult to drive when snow is more than 3 inches.

So much more fun in a subaru for sure
For sure Rayan its 4WD, gives the best driving experience
AWD does better on ice than 4wd. Also it doesn't matter what speed you go.
All-Wheel-Drive all the way! 👍👍⛄

when he said “okay we gonna put traction control on”
I was like why man
Would love to see how the WRX compares
ngl id love to rip a RWD STi. can you buy Lappis in the US?
I want one of those Subi winter Jacket lol
awdute, love my Baja, Oh and I love my Outback, But I could have so much fun with a STI.
86 for the summer wrx for the winter
I daily drive my BRZ in Québec! No issues in the Winter on Conti WinterContact tires...
In the snow i prefer awd. In the summer i lrefer rwd.
trot till lol @3:31 love the accent
Awd but I have a WRX
All wheel drive! 18 STI.

No. Grip is almost always faster.
Tha used to be the case. Things have changed
Why you don't try FWD?
Subaru don’t make any.
Why would anyone want a fwd car? They are boring.
I have and its sketchy in bad weather. Especially rain and trying to go up hill is quite a different feeling in a fwd. Buuut also they wont drift or powerslide quite like the fun awd/rwd cars or trucks in the snow or dirt or of you're crazy asphalt.
*SUBARU JUDGE ABOUT HONDA AND TOYOTA*
Name of the song?
where does subi test drive their cars
why i want awd if i dont get any snows and barely rains down here? lel
Awd WRX 👍
Does anyone know how to spell the tire company name?
lappi tyres
RWD cars are for kids, AWD cars are for dudes 😎
But..but..but...kansei douriftoo?
I love my 06 sti i wouldn't sell it for million dollar
I live in wisconsin i can give you lesson.
AWD
lol he had the traction on
awd
+ awd ;)
Copilot was so weird. Like a mute Chris Pratt, but more lame
“Not street legal”. Why is this even a video?
Do these cars not have heaters? Take off that bulky coat!
We were in and out of the cars all day. No time for dealing with the coat - we had driving to get to!
this is nothing new....we been power sliding for years...from 70s trans ams to pickup trucks !!!
If you’re trying to make your tires to feel like you’re driving on pavement while you’re on ice, then why not just go drive on pavement -shrugs-...half the fun is letting loose with the grip and sliding all around
RWD vs AWD in the snow? Which moron came up with this idea to even make this a competition?
That Guy who said it was a competition?
Bruh, they just spent 2 hours digging the Sti out of the snow bank.
TheBigDanois yeah cause the driver sucks
