@@johnallen8670 That's awesome, in my opinion, then again I'm not so different. I fell in love with modeling at almost the same age as you. While I wasn't in the hospital it was in the wake of a hospital stay that I was introduced to the hobby. For me the kits I had access to were Monogram, Revell, Lindberg, Testors & some Hasegawa/Minicraft.
It wasn't until my teens that I got access to Airfix, Italeri, Super Model, limited amounts of Heller kits, Matchbox kits, the very rare KP/Kopro kit & one anomalous VEB Plasticart kit.
Most of my teen built British aircraft were either from Airfix or Matchbox. The only Spitfire I had at the time was from Hasegawa! (Of course I built kits of other nationalities produced by the two companies as well.)
I had no history with FROG or Novo until I was already an adult & had access to the internet. FROG folded before I was of the age of awareness. I'm guessing that Novo was out of reach for the hobby shop owner that stocked the KP kits & that one VEB Plasticart TU-2 via trading with Eastern Bloc modelers?
Were you ever involved in kit trading with such folk on the other side of the Iron Curtain? I always wondered how on Earth any of them got acquainted in the first place!
For a long time I was a purist that stuck to 1/72 scale models, after branching out to 1/48 for just a handful of models, now I build 1/72 for everything from 1931-1945. Mostly 1/72 for everything from 1945-1981 save for large aircraft which I prefer to build in 1/144 purely out of space constraints.

@@johnallen8670 I'm 66, and my dad was a mad keen Aifix modeler and got me into it. He made scores of models, from medieval sailing ships (Francis Drake, Columbus) to WW2 aircraft and even models of wild birds (he was a big of an amateur ornithologist).
In 1969, like thousands of other boys my age, I built a Saturn V rocket, (Apollo 11 to 17) it's predecessor Saturn 1B (Apollo missions in Earth orbit) and the lunar module.
      Good memories

Watching this video is just strange for me (not in a bad way) - it takes me all the way back to being a boy excited to go to the local Model shop with Dad when Dad had agreed to open his wallet.
The juxtaposition from that experience to watching a company release video showing what I can expect - it's a pretty cool feeling.

On our high street in the 1970s we had Woolworths for Airfix, a toy shop that sold Aurora, Revell, Monogram and Frog. And a newsagent that sold Matchbox kits. My dad never "opened his wallet" for plastic kits, as he believed that 'proper' model making was buying a pile of wood and a plan. Luckily I had my paper round to feed my addiction for boxes of plastic sprues. 😉

Pretty exciting to see Airfix alive and well.
Reminds me of my first Airfix kit in a bag with money I had saved from my weekly allowance 59 years ago.
Bought it on Monday with a tube a Britfix, Humbrol paint the shopkeeper recommended for that kit and some brushes.
Got it together by Wednesday, paint hardly dry and sagging a bit on its landing gear because the Britfix wasn't given enough time to harden out... a beginners mistake.. I was too excited to get it finished.
Wished I still had that same excitement as I had as a kid but with a paralyzed left arm and only one arm to handle the model since a brain hemorrhage 15 years ago I never could find that same excitement but I recommend Airfix for keeping us happy and excited... I will buy some of these nevertheless.... if only to support them...

Do you remember the instructions "locate and cement??"
I must've got my first airfix kits around the same time you did.
My dad would come home from work on a Thursday (pay day) with an airfix kit and the first ones I remember are Typhoon, Mig 15 and of course a Spitfire.
Xmas 1964 I got Caravelle and Comet airliners.
But because my dad was an ex Lancaster rear gunner I preferred WW1 and WW2 aircraft, tanks and ships.

@@larry4789 I don't remember much of that time because of a brain hemorrhage 15 years ago but enough to remember how excited I was... we would get an allowance on Sunday for doing chores.... only a few franks (I lived in Belgium and the frank was still our currency) after a few weeks saving it I would have enough to afford a baggie from Airfix, would ride my bike to the hobby shop 10 miles away and buy one....
      I. remember a Hurricane, a Folland Gnat and a Beagle Basset as some of my first ones.. My first kit in a box was an P-4J Phantom of VF-74 with those red flashes on the fuselage from Airfix... like the others...bought on Monday...finished on Wednesday.... but I had a blast....

You carry on enjoying building them . That's fine . Try adding a little detail . With the cars you can start to customise them . There are other 'clip-together' kits that should be cheap enough for you to practise getting and honing your skills . Take your time , and enjoy our fantastic hobby . If or when you get stuck 🙄, leave it for a while . Perhaps start another one if you can . Aim to improve , but don't set your goal too high or you'll get frustrated . How about looking for a model with a low number of difficulty 'stars' , i e , not too many parts . That's not a guarantee , but it's a way forward . Pick a model of a plane you like the look of . Check it's got one star if possible , and look out for the many y/t videos to help called 'how to's . Some go right back to basics and that is a great start . Preferably , you will need a work area , a selection of tools , glues and paints , and don't forget , you can't buy this , patience . All the best . Pete

It is fantastic that you are putting the R&D into reverse-engineering the clear parts for classic releases. When I heard that for Auster Antarctic, I was immediately sold! I suspect this is in response to customer feedback (I've had good and bad experiences with vintage classics; the bad is pretty much always because of unsalvageable clear parts). It is awesome and hugely admirable that you are listening and rather than get defensive, actually making changes as a result. Bravo!

Some of those kits are very good dimensions-wise and only need a little sprucing up. Some newly tooled transparencies and edits of the original moulds to create recessed panel lines would be all you need to ostensibly create a "new" tool out of an old one for market. Interesting that the Landrover Ute is called a pickup, I'm guessing this is to appeal to the American market since England and particularly Australia know them as a utility or ute.

Well done on the new 1/48 Gannet it looks like a great kit, this is a very good year for fans of 1/48 scale British aircraft. Personally as a 1/72 devotee I'm pretty disappointed. No new tool 1/72 Hampden or Manchester. But the 1/72 PR Mossie update is a very nice release.

What I love about Airfix is that all the models are based on real life things, such as their WWI & WWII tanks, soldiers, planes and ships. I recently went to Newcastle and got some Africa Korps and some first world war fighter planes. People these days, it's all sci fi and fantasy. I prefer my army soldiers and war models. Someone told me years ago that Airfix went bust!! I believed them, but they didn't! I also collect army and police figurines. Airfix is tones of fun and you get a lovely end product. I also like doing those Maplins electrical sets, where you solder together your own radio or Christmas decoration and stuff! I have all sorts of army toys and models, hours of fun if you ask me!

The Sunderland and Catalina were or are really beautiful kits.
One Xmas in the 60's i got both of those off my uncles, a Lancaster of my granny and a Halifax off my mum and dad.

Mistake on Guy Gibson's Dambuster Lancaser ED932. It was not fitted with the ventral gun. Reliable sources give ED825 AJ-T as the only one to have been fitted with the mountings for the ventral gun. The aircraft was shot down on 10 December 1943 on an SOE drop near Doullens, France.
The wreckage was possitively Identified as ED825 by the presence of the ventral gun mounting as it was the only 617 sqn aircraft to have it fitted.
The ventral Gun mounting position was the site of the rear height finding Spot Lamp.

Given Corgi is also part of the Hornby group, this could be a great opportunity - buy the diecast and maybe Airfix might consider a plastic version (3 vehicle set with a terror fish and Agent X20 included!!!!)........?

In the 80s I made hundreds of airfix aircraft and hung them from my ceiling and on shelfs and stuff, loved them, one night very late my brother came home slightly inebriated and decided to reenact the battle of Britain, I didn't speak to him for a long time.
