as an Italian kid I must say that this car, especially with our philosophy, was and still is a masterpiece. Yes it really isn't appealing for someone that wants cameras, heated and ventilated seats or a 3090 installed into the infotainment, BUT (as it always happens with alfas) the main objective was to be faster than german cars. We wanted to know if we could still do it, like we did in the DTM entering and destroying the competition. And we did for a brief moment. We will not have another giulia and we probably won't have another fully petrol alfa sadly. That's just an opinion of 21 years old with a fiat panda tho. :)
As a 30 year old Englishman with a few v8s and straight 6s I can agree with you completely
I don’t get who this car is for exactly. If you’re the kind of customer who wants a 3090 and the works you buy a new German saloon, if you’re the opposite type of customer you probably want to shift gears yourself.
@@theoneandonlybosable so you still buy a german saloon (M3 manual)
@@theoneandonlybosable there was a manual version but I think uk never got it here in Italy it's still available.
@@niclebowski9214 No more available in Italy and in EU since 2018/19, the automatic was still the most sold (except in 2015 when it wasn't available)
The fact so many owners have commented here says all you need to know about this car. Enthusiasts buy them.
Nah Alfa fan boys buy them. Real enthusiasts buy bmw. You won’t find Alfa owners at track days pushing their cars to the limit. But you will find many guys in bmw in different states of tune pushing their cars very hard. Alfa boys will be driving back and forth to the office
@@STICKSHFTI’m sure you’ll enjoy reading giulia qv forums where owners track them perfectly fine :)

@@STICKSHFT I've owned multiple BMWs. My QV was the first time I loved a car.
Beemer owners aren't car enthusiasts, they're narcissistic.
Having owned over 30 cars I've never owned 1 BMW because I don't want to be just like every other
US owner here. Great and fair video. Disagree on one point, the Alfa sounds far superior to an F80 M3, I've owned both. We don't have the particulate filter here so that must be the reason for that observation.
@@cowmath77 a bit like most of his “negatives” in this video, clutching at straws comes to mind
He is wrong on other points too, the suspension is far more confortable than the M3 in Normal mode. I think he left on the dynamic setting. The curb weight is also lighter than the M3 with some 100 kgs or so. (1720 vs 1820)
@@GamesBond.007 If you're comparing to the G80. The F80 is quite a bit lighter.
@@GamesBond.007 it's even more comfortable than my M340i! The QV was firm, but it soaked up bumps brilliantly and felt more planted on poor roads, even in N.
@@sfletcher83 They just don't want to admit the suspension engineering is superior. It just is. It is more comfortable period. Plus the carbon fiber driveshaft. The car is made to thrill! It simply drives better than the M3. Steers better. Handles better. It's more compliant. Sounds light years better. Looks infinitely better. There's no comparison.
Qv owner here. Had 3 x M3s in a row before this. M3s feel like practical sports cars..I loved them. The qv feels more like a supercar, with the practicality of a sedan. I love it. Basically I love them both..my M3s were an e46 and 2 e92s though. Hate the F80. I really like the giulia interior..very italian. I particularly like the way the screen is blended into the dash, unlike most German rivals which have the screen stuck on top of the dash like they forgot about it. The giulia has a crazy chassis, lighting fast steering, huge traction and an absolute beast of a motor. Its a car that you really want to drive fast.. Car drives the best in race mode , buy one. You won't be disappointed !
Just bought a QV after 7 years with an E92 M3. People complain about the infotainment of the Giulia but if you're coming from a 2008ish style BMW is a perfect upgrade. Everything else about the Giulia is fantastic!
@@JPSurratt1986 E92 M3 are an epic car ! Adored mine

Manual?! Awesome... if they were available with a manual here in the states, it would have been considered.
@@justinmaccreery2490 as far as I'm aware only Europe got the manual option.
@@stichupman which is exactly what he said …
Manual? Oooooooooh. I like the sound of that.
Are you in the UK with a RHD model, by any chance?
It's not clear which markets received the manual briefly and it would be nice to know. :)
The biggest thing I disagree with here is the interior.
In an era where opposing manufacturers are going the route of fake leather, ipads unimaginatively glued on dashboards and didgital dials I actually love (not like, but LOVE) the approach alfa took with this interior. From the sweeping curves of the dash, to the proper leathers, to the proper analog dials and the way the LCD is elegantly hidden behind a glass beauty panel - I think they really put a lot of thought into the interior design, and to my eyes it really shows.
By comparison if I look at a C-Class of the same era there's far too much shiny crap to the point that it looks like a pimp-mobile, and too much obsession with LCD screens everhwhere. Likewise the equivalent year 3-series interior just looks awkward, misfit and cheap. The S4/RS4 is the only compeititor that I would say has an interior that is both elegantly designed and brilliantly put together, but somehow to me the Giulia interior still has a little more flair.
Also not sure what you mean by the lack of colour options, because I could swear I've seen Giulia QV's with black/tan, and black/red interiors. I've definitely seen it on the Veloce (and it looks stunning) but I'm pretty sure ive seen it on QV's too.
Agree the interior isnt bad compared with the Germans, though they tend to be dull. Have looked at a bunch of QV's and I have to conclude the only colour you get is black :(
Couldn’t agree more. I love it’s simplistic elegant flowing lines and analog instruments with digital displays in the background. The combination of leather, alcantara and carbon fiber is just perfect. Absolutely love the retro feel.
That particular interior with the alcantara isn't great, the full leather in the Lusso is pretty beautiful especially in brown, red, or I can't even believe I'm saying this, but cream as well...
@@jonathangillbanks4378 Depends on the car, doesn't seem like you can get the good interiors in the QV which is fucking ########################.... Sorry I meant its fucking stupid, but in a Ti, Lusso or Sport you can get some beautiful interiors, the only drawback it that you don't get 500+hp which sucks until you realize the regular car is a turbocharged 4Cylinder that can make well over 300hp, is significantly lighter than the Quadrifoglio and looks just as good from the outside (especially if you get the carbon package).
exactly... this is a car lover wet dream, in my eyes
I finally purchased a 2017 QV around 2 months ago and I'm still amazed by it, absolutely zero buyers remorse. It's astonishingly quick (brutal in fact) and very scarse (UK), which I like, opposed to M3s, C63s, RS5s, Golf Rs, A45s etc etc. Whenever I park it anywhere I cannot resist a quick look back over my shoulder, which I believe shows I have chosen the right car for me.
It is thristy, the brakes do take a little bit of getting used to and you will end up facing the wrong way if you get a little premature with the go pedal leaving a roundabout (especailly in race mode but also very achievable in Normal mode, certainly in the wet :-)
Does anyone buy 510 horses under the bonnet for fuel efficiency tho? You can easily achieve over 30 if you set in A( advance efficiency) as it'll disable 3 of the pots but that's not why you bought QV right?
If you went just for the look but wanted to be cheap on fuel you would've gone for the 2.2 diesel engine. A friend had it before getting Veloce petrol. Very decent performance (180 horses) gorgeous and it returned over 50mpg, even 60 on a motorway run.
But that's not why people buy QV.
I wish they offered estates... Sometimes having family sucks when you can't afford running an extra vehicle as there is a money pit in the house ( meaning a teenage girl)...
If you don't look it back at it after you park you did not buy the right car.. true story
Agree 100% I have a Stelvio QF. Brakes you get used to but it takes time and boy do they stop you. Love opening the garage door and most angles. In Stelvio I back off tyre pressures a few psi for a better town ride as the pressure is high for 180 mph. It’s been in 2.5 years the most reliable car in my street. Some of the rest is true dealers are hit and miss. The engine is butter smooth mist of time but doesn’t burble outside race mode.
How is it not nice sounding engine? Literally one of the best sounds out there stock
I agree that in videos it sounds pretty good. In person it sounds much different though, and not for the better. I am a Alfa/Maserati tech in the US, so maybe our exhaust system is different.
it sounds like a drum, hate v6’s
It’s simply loud, but not particularly pleasant. I owned one for nearly 3 years but never gelled with the engine noise. It’s too mich like a brash German one.
@@AliTaylor777 Totally agree, same for me (I had one for 4 years, but without the filter). It is super nice to drive though

Have you ever heard an F-Type V6S, Honda NSX or an Alfa with a Busso V6?
Had a QV up until March this year, it's a sensational car. Replaced it with an M340i as we wanted to move house and they're 'quite' expensive to finance, with a 20mpg thirst. I'd have one again in a heartbeat; the BMW feels like a clown car around corners in comparison. I also thought it sounded incredible, especially with the AHM exhaust controller!
Do you mean the Alfa is 20mpg or the bmw…? Watched a review with a a year owner and he said low to mid 30’s and on his 40 mile commute he gets 40….?
@@spice3767 the Alfa gave really low mpg. I've had two, a pre and post facelift. The earlier car averaged around 25mpg and the later around 21mpg. I used to see 30mpg occasionally from the 2019 car, but never saw it even on long, carefully driven journeys in the 2021 car.
The BMW gets around 30 without any effort, and up to / over 40 on long journeys.
But I'm still looking at getting another Alfa later this year when the facelift arrives, if finances allow 😂
@@sfletcher83 I wonder if the addition of the port injectors reduced the MPG in the later years? I don't know which model year they were added to reduce carbon buildup on the valves. I have a 2021 and really glad I probably won't have to do any walnut shell treatments. Fingers crossed.
I think my 19 Giulia QV sounds great, specially after I made sure the valves stay open all the time. We loved my Giulia QV so much we got the Wife a Stelvio QV. 1 Alfa in the states is rare enough, now we can ride around with 2!
As a QV owner and previous BMW owner, this car never leaves me wanting for more. It’s a drivers car, period. Yes, I concur the interior is bit lacking but not overly so. Brake by wire while it sucks a parking lot speeds when moving, is fine. Love mine and plan on keeping it forever.
How old is your QV? Because from MY20, the brakes are vastly improved
@@nessuno5403 It’s late 2018.
@@nessuno5403 The brakes in my 2021 QV seem a bit less touchy and easier to modulate when coming to a final stop compared to my former 2019 Giulia which took me about 3-4 months to get used to. (Or maybe I got better at it after driving the Giulia.) So I agree with the thought that the brakes are more dialed in with the new model years. It was specially disappointing coming from 40+ years of BMWs. I love BMW brakes and the brake pedal feel and brake response. You always know where you are without thinking. I find there's always a little background processing by my brain when braking with the Alfa. I do find the brake pedal feel and smoothness of stopping are much improved when wearing Italian shoes compared to wearing athletic shores. My theory is that the Italian shoes have thin smooth leather soles that slide on the pedal whereas rubber sole shoes subtly stick a bit on the pedal which causes the brake-by-wire pedal sensor to chatter (vibrate) a bit that throws off the brake-by-wire computer with erratic data.
@@larrychew1 interesting shoe theory! I think I heard or read somewhere that with the Giulia you just commit and trust the system to do its thing. New BMWs are now also brake-by-wire, but perhaps helped by ability to change brake levels. Point remains, new Giulia is better than previous ones :)
QV owner here with W204 & W205 C63 in the garage and also an M2 CS. This is the car I pick the keys up to when the weather here in Victoria Australia is trash and I've had a really gutful day. Driving this car in anger melts away the sadness.
Best car I have ever owned. Has the occasional problem, sure, but is frankly the only car I've owned that can truly say I've fallen in love with. It's attitude, the way it drives, the way it looks----I just love it. I had a CLA 45 AMG before this, and a M3 before that. Both amazing cars. Both had better tech on the inside. The M3 was faster 0-60. The CLA45 AMG's interior was cooler. None of it mattered. There is just something different about this car. I wake up in the morning excited to go to work because I know I'll be driving this car. The Mercedes nor the BMW ever did that for me I promise you that.
If you are on the fence because of "reliability" or whatever other problem you heard through sarcastic internet comments, don't listen to them. Watch actual testimonials from people who own the car. Talk to people that own it. I promise you will be hard pressed to find even one person who regrets buying this car. They might have their issues and complaints, but they will have no regrets. You have my word.
I couldn’t agree more with your comment! 👍
100% Agree best car i have ever owned.
Wow!!
Getting one a 2024 at Daytona Alfa Romeo in Florida. For sure!!!
Thank you 😊
The wheels aren't big enough ? Looking perfect to me..all angles on this car looks awesome almost British touring car thing about it .
very true
You can cheat and put the same style 20in wheels from the Stelvio 😉
What an amazing car. A car you can love which is not something you can generally say about a German car, worthy as they may be. It's a shame the Giulia range hasn't sold in greater numbers as even BMW admitted they didn't benchmark it for the new 3 series as the Giulia is too good which speaks volumes.
Driven a new M4 back to back with my 19' QV and no contest, Alfa all the way.
Would be interested in your comments on QV vs. M4. Thanks!
Ya the Alfa is far more fun, rewarding, and engaging.
This car you reviewed is the newer version the 17-19 cars are louder, sharper, faster and lighter. The earlier cars have a very Ferrari front end geometry and so many people complained about tire scrub at full lock Alfa then changed the front end completely in 2020. You also have to get the carbon fiber Sparco seats no exceptions it makes the interior look special and gives a totally different and better driving experience. I love my car and I have put up with hell with bad dealer service and still can not let is go 4 years now daily driving it and i love every moment, my 2018 QV is fully modified and set up quite a bit different than stock and for me it is the absolute best sport sedan i ever owned. I have lots of QV content on my channel for anyone interested to learn more. AF
What's the change in the front suspension for later cars?
@CarZen when I look at BMWs I can see how they save costs on engineering. Alfa didn't, they saved some on the interior. But engineering is a masterpiece for the Giulia if you feel it you feel it if a BMW is enough for you that's your choice. I wouldn't even say them they are competitors.
@Autofanatic I fixed the front tire scrub at full lock by simply CHANGING THE FRONT TIRES with Michelin PS4s. Why couldnt Alfa do the same thing ? The stock Pirelli Corsas are awfull road tyres anyway. No grip in wet/cold, 60 treadwear compared to 300 on the PS4s...that is 5 times less mileage !!!!!
@@GamesBond.007 yeah th Corsa are horrible on most public roads but they make steering faster and i guess it was that and the lap times they wanted to give owners the same feel. They should make corsa and cup2 an option on performance cars because on street they are dangerous unless the roads are perfectly smooth. Corsa sidewalls are so soft they also cause rims to bend easier. I have the pilot 4s and love them even though they took a year to get with the shortages in oem sizez
@CarZen the only thing the m3 is better at is making you look like a douchebag
I’m 18 months into owning one. It’s been a great experience. No real issues, had one little niggle that was an easy DIY fix once I’d figured it out.
The fact it has no 360 camera is not an issue at all, rear camera and front and rear sensors. If you can’t park it with them then you need to go back to driving school.
The infotainment in the early cars is a bit crap but fit an aftermarket module to give Carplay and AA and it’s fine, though touch screen would have been a bonus.
The sound is amazing, no GPF on mine so it’s louder and cracks on up and down shifts. The sound is unmistakable, there’s just nothing that sounds anything like the Q.
The infotainment could spontaneously combust on a regular basis and I wouldn't care. The manual book could come in a sandwich bag and I wouldn't care. The interior could rattle and squeek and I wouldn't care. Why wouldn't I care? Just look at it. Look at it. Stunning from every angle.
Love this car, it’s looks, it’s ‘Italianness’ and how it handles - best car I’ve owned so far
Bought mine new over 4 years ago. Simply fantastic. Nothing like it out there now and likely never will b again.
Owned a 2017 Giulia, a 2020 Stelvio & currently a 2019 Giulia QUadrifoglio. ABSOLUTELY fell in love with these cars unlike any other i ever owned. I used to change cards every 2-3 years and simply dont like anything else on the market. All have been dead reliable and a pleasure to own.
The Giulia Q is sublime.
Any petrolhead who has always dreamt of special but has budget only for good, watch the used prices for these.
there's an infinite number of cars at 35-40k that you could buy before an alfa romeo
@@t8506 almost none of them as good as this
Nobody looks to buy this Alfa, or any Alfa for its elegant interior or brilliant technology. They buy it because the way it looks, drives and makes you feel, connected with the car. It’s a pure pleasure to own and drive the Giulia QV 🍀
I’ve had my Giulia since 2018. Love it. The driving dynamics is fantastic and I fall in love with the looks every time a look at it. And I’ve had close to zero problems. I did have to replace the rear brake discs this spring due to rust. But it’s my daily driver in salty winter roads Sweden so that’s no surprise. But I do agree that the dealerships stinks.

I have never understood why these TH-cam reviewers are so obsessed with Italian cars interiors. They love audis. Every time I jump in an Audi I feel like suicidal. I think Alfa interior looks amazing and it feels modern to me.
2017 owner here, Unbelievable piece of machinery. First sports sedan ever. Love it.
A 360 camera, so important it's listed as missing twice, yet, I've never needed one. Ever.
A 360 camera is only for those who can't park.
Fab review. My mate bought one of these after a string of Imprezas. He loves it. Anyone else not got over the looks of the new M3 / M4?
BMW needs to fire their designers like yesterday. They took a once beautiful car and destroyed it.
Never ask a pen to behave like a piece of paper. Alfas are excellent drivers cars and dont care about nonsensical luxury features. Alfas are fun to drive and thats their charm. If thats what you are lookimg for buy an alfa. If you want a technological luxury car buy a mercedes. If you want an a,azing sports sedan or cuv than buy the alfa.
@CarZen but unfortunately you'll always look like a chump in a BMW 😅
@CarZen m3 g80, and other bmw with the s58 engine had a major recall last year, due to main bearing shell problems... talking about reliability... Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio vastly beats the M3 snd M4 in every aspect related to the handling:
V6 90 degrees engine, like Formula 1 cars (BMW still with its cheap inline 6 cylinder long stroke engine, which runs smooth but desappeared from F1 bifore the 70s)
Front bonnet and roof in carbon fiber (vs metal parts in thd M3 and M4)
Front double wishbone suspensions, for optimal camber angle control (vs McPherson of the M3 and M4, like a Volkswagen...)
Single piece carbon fibre driveshaft, much lighter and with lower inertia moment than the traditional 2 pieces steel driveshaft of the M3 anx M4.
On the road, the Giulia is engaging with a very responsive steering, but extremely safe and stable. The same can't be said for M3 and M4
@CarZen you have no clue at all. A M340i would spank the Alfa? Show it. Better build quality? You should ask germans what they have to say about this. And Alfa is not more or less reliable than its european competitors. Please inform yourself instead of repeating bs from others.
@@ocar5217 a german journalist Daniel Hohmeyer completely agrees with you.
Admiration and respect ensue when I see a Giulia QF on the road in a sea of M3s. 4-door Ferrari, this ain’t - that’s the 8-cylinder Quattroporte.
It is the closest... it handles extremely well and has a very good engine and looks how it should
The best 4 door sports sedan ever made. By far imo
You don`t buy an Alfa Romeo for the interior. You buy it for the feeling. You can`t have time to observe the interior except when she`s sitting in the garage. On the road, she`s there for you. It`s being built for the driver, there is an intimate relation with her. She`s like a simple, superbe woman with a simple dress at a select party. Simple and filled with mistery and power
im typically not a fan of v6 engines because most of them dont sound great. the old alfa busso v6 and the golf r32 are some of the few exceptions. this car in my opinion sounds very good for a modern v6.
I agree. Still, the Busso sounds miles better.
As an Alfa fan I completly agree, I feel the Giulia is the end of the road for Alfa. This will probably be the last pure (non hybrid/electric) mass production car they'll offer. Alfa's sport saloon swansong.
What comes after might be faster and better but will it be as thrilling?
My 2019 has fully adaptive headlights. They turn right and left and go up and down- amazing. They even have a side light that turns on at low speeds when turning 😁 I love this vehicle!
Both my 17 and 19 have adaptive headlights and I love em!
I own a blue quad same as this . I have no idea why you don’t like the interior . Everyone whose sat in it says it looks stunning . It might
Not be as flashy as a German car but Christ you do feel like your driving something special and then when you drive the thing you realise it is hands down the best thing on the market for the money . Pure adrenaline rush
Because it's very plain and lacks the flair of old Alfas - check out a 159 for how it's done
. It looks good seats are comfy and everything looks good . Much prefer it to an Amg or Bmw interior . Might be plainer but who cares
I loved the interior of my Quadrifoglio, simple flowing styling across the dashboard without the need for a bolt on iPad.
In 15 years time, the interior of this car will still look timeless while it’s competitors will look dated.
Loved my better halfs alfa stelvio ti sport. It was totally reliable and a blast to drive. The alfas have a quality of fun in the driving experience that transcends the numbers etc. the interior was fine to me. I thought it was very nice inside. Im not too much of an snob in interiors..and if it was an issue? The aftermarket probably can improve qualities if thats important to you.
Driving an alfa makes every drive fun. They build passion into their cars. Thats what alfa ownership is about

Always love Jay's reviews.. Plenty of info on the car and what he likes/dislikes about it. Here he shares his views on the fabulous looking Alfa Quadrifoglio. Shame that you can't spec a more interesting interior. I love it in the new electric green. A future classic? Definitely.
Fair review. Yes, the infotainment is a generation (or 2) behind but I think the relative lack of technology might make it more appealing in the long run. I completely agree with your criticisms regarding the lack of safety assists in race mode. A HUGE mistake imo. I disagree about the harshness of the ride. I've had a Golf R and a Cadillac ATS-V. They both had harsher rides (the golf's was probably due to the too large 19 inch wheels) Anyway, I absolutely love my MY 2O20 Rosso Competizione. I daily it and it makes me feel great every time I press the right pedal. And I LOVE the sound. The claps on the upshift are unlike any other. I hope to keep it forever.
Lost me when you said it didn't sound great. I have owned a BMW E60 M5 V10 and currently also own a Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, Maserati Granturismo, all fantastic sounding cars. The Quadrifoglio sounds great and far superior to the M3. Mine has the cats deleted and so it's very aggressive, but it did sound wonderful when stock. At high revs that 90° engine with the flat plane crank sounds awesomely Italian and is the best sounding V6 on the market.
Without a doubt. He nitpicked SO much. Seriously makes me want to consider my own auto channel.
@@thomasferrarojr.9772 It's just weird to hear someone suggest the exhaust note is anything other than perfection.....While I own a modified Giulia Quadrifoglio and love it, in reality I have no emotional commitment where I would deny it sounding bad if it did in fact sound bad. I literally have had people cheer and have got the thumbs up from the police in downtown here more times than I can count, down shifting is glorious!! I just drive in race mode at all times and enjoy my car being catless.... I also have just over 630hp on mine.
I did get the middle finger from a cyclist today😂
I believed he was referring to the lack of induction noise; Harry Metcalf of Harry’s Garage had the same observation. Regardless I truly love the sound of my Giulia Quadrifoglio. It’s intoxicating.
@@bc8580 I wonder if there would be a bit more induction noise if your replace the intake tubing to the throttle bodies with carbon fiber ones. I think it's a challenge top hear induction noise in a turbocharged engine compared to an aspirated one with the turbocharger and intercooler in the air path.
Hi James. I took delivery of an Guilia Quad about a month ago and agree with pretty much everything you said. Although I have "the disease" and this is actually my third, previously a 2000 GTV V6 coupe and a 2003 147 GTA. I would only have the Sparco seats and I can't understand anybody not liking them. They are game changing. They contour so nicely to your back and just like the seats in my other wheels, a 2020 Evora GT (I only mention because I know your experience!!) they completely change the feel of the car. I'm not so fussed and don't mind the interior to be honest. Quality is a lot better than earlier cars and as long as it has Android Auto, I'm happy. We don't have to deal with particulate filters here in the US so I don't mind the noise. Even so, because I have the "other disease" it is currently in the shop having an Ideal Race 2nd stage Ecu tune, downpipes and a full Remus Valved Exhaust which eliminates the center resonator but apparently PROMISES no drone, as well as slightly lowered springs (only .75 inch) and small spacers to improve the stance. What you said about 1st and 2nd gear does make a lot of sense. Come to think of it, I've been told my ECU will fix that while still remaining nicely progressive. Lets hope it doesn't send me backwards into a ditch!!
I'm a former 147 GTA owner myself - sold mine about a year ago and still on the lookout for a replacement weekend car that has similar fun factor. There are many cars that are faster and more capable, but that car had a special ability to make me smile every time I drove it. Do you find the QV to be a worthy move forward from the GTA in that regard? Does it have that same ability to make you smile when you get behind the wheel?
I had a 2018 and never had more fun in a 4 door car. It was only half a second slower than my 458. Wicked fast, and hugs the curves like gorilla glue. I put in the valve controller switch so even in normal mode it had the sound of Race, but with a safety net. I was only getting 15 mpg...... the 458 is 12mpg. The Yukon 14mpg. Don't wait go buy one.
Over a year into mine, utterly and totally in love like never before with a car - usually a BMW man. Sorry, but I absolutely LOVE the interior of my car, compared to the normal boring generic BMW interiors I have had for years this has been a refreshing change, Sparco carbon seats are awesome - I prefer the normal ones for every day ownership tho.
I fell in love with this car ever since Clarkson reviewed it on the grand tour.
Same and despite it just being the Sprint, I've just bought a Giulia and I love it
Superb review as always, I'm in the market for one - this is excellent, Jay - many thanks.
It's one of the dream cars I wanted to get. The exhaust has that almost RB engine sound. $80,000USD though, I wished they offered a manual. From what I remembered, the prototype had a 7 speed manual. Not gonna knock the 8 speed ZF auto as some owners have said it's solid. I like the blue.
I've got a manual, it's 6 speed. The manuals were not true prototype cars, but according to rumor, they were the first 500 production cars. After that, no more manuals have been produced.
I heard the manuals were clunky. Not as good as the auto
Just bought my Alfa Romeo giulia TI 2.0. a f****** love it. I came from a Cadillac CTS 2013. I've had a BMW I've had an Audi. This car blows mind.
What a beautiful car this is despite the drawbacks. Italien through and though. I drove a new one out here in the SF Bay Area and my experience with the dealer was quite different than yours. They tossed me the keys and said, "See you later." I came back an hour later. I loved it. The dealer thought that I would buy it that day. I've owned two e46 M3s, including one with full Dinan mod, and I loved this car much more. It was mainly the Italien thing. So special. I could get one, in this blue shade, brand new, for $58k out the door. The driving position was not quite right for a person of my size, 6'3" and 220 lbs, but I could overlook that. I was tempted but already had my eye on a 997 Turbo to buy. Still, this car is in the back of my mind. It may still happen. In Corsa Red.
Which dealer was this?
Excellent, thorough review as always and enjoyed the drive-by shots. Thank you for your hard work
Doesn’t sound great?!? Considering it’s PPF and stock exhaust I think it sounds pretty amazing.
A squeaky 4-year old might sing amazing considering the age, but I still wouldn't want the record.
@@pdcichosz That was incredibly obtuse. Perhaps you could suggest a better turbo 6 that is more pleasing to your finely honed ears rather than disparaging hypothetical toddlers.
@@michaelh.1627 That was the simplest illustration of the fact that 'given the circumstances' is not an argument in a discussion about the general quality of a thing. No number of fancy words makes it any less true. A better sounding turbo 6? You can't be serious, a better sounding turbo V6 in production would be a challenge, but not when you include R and B6s...
@@pdcichosz Objectivity. Is that too fancy a word? Perhaps for some. But the good news is that neither of us own or plan on buying this car, so honestly who gives a F#ck at this point.
Ah man that engine sound is lovely. Not obnoxious but a pleasant turbo rumble. Very similar to my 2022 M4
My dream car would be an new GTV6 (coupe) based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio.... I would buy a green one, red one and white one, just to celebrate...
There's a bingoesque joy to hear a brit pronouncing Italian words.
I think it's the fair conclusion. Great review.
Awesome review James. One of your absolute best. Thankyou!
Interesting review and quite different from my ownership experience.
I've had my 2017 car for 18 months and 13K miles (previous car was a Lotus Exige) and I love it. I can only presume there must of been some suspension changes on the recent cars as I don't find my car uncomfortable at all. One thing they are generally praised for in reviews is the compliant ride and mine is certainly that in it's softest setting. They did also change the steering geo on the later cars. In N mode it's as easy to drive as any normal car but agree it is a shame you can't select Race mode but keep some assistance. A separate way to turn all the traction control etc off would be better.
I took it over Europe in the summer and from motorways to alpine passes it did it all pretty damn well. On a steady motorway run 35+ MPG is easily possible.
It's a bit odd to mention the weight of car (it seems to be an Italian thing to quote dry figures), then complain at the lack of 360 degree cameras, double glazing etc. It's a sports saloon not a luxury one. While the interior maybe not be the best quality, personally I really like the relatively simple design, and that it hasn't got all that touchscreen/haptic nonsense. It's logical and just works well - too many interiors now are overly fussy/complicated.
Re the relative lack of options is true, but at least they are pretty well spec'd as standard (Porsche charge extra for cruise control, and Ferrari charge a fortune for CarPlay etc).
On earlier models the exhaust did open in D mode but not until about 4K RPM. There are a couple of options though to have a switchable exhaust valve so you can have it fully open in any mode, all the time. I drove a newer car, with the optional akrapovic exhaust and it definitely seemed quieter than my 2017 car with the standard exhaust when the valves are open so maybe that's a GPF thing?
Personally, I like the short gearing as it means you can use more of the revs more often and change gear more when hooning. 7th & 8th are pretty long though and ideal for cruising on the motorway etc.
I totally agree about the brake pedal feel at low speed, it's probably the thing I dislike the most.
Maybe I've been lucky but contrary to the Alfa stereotype, mine has been 100% reliable, nothing has falled off or broken, even my alcantara wheel isn't 'falling apart' after 20K miles :-)
It's not without it's flaws but IMO it's got way more positives that negatives.
I've heard that in newer cars the glass is thicker, so that might explain why they seem quieter.
@@kasimirdenhertog3516 yes I believe that’s correct too.
Wanted to write exactly what you said. I agree on all points. What a car
Only have the 2.2 but still my favourite car after 2 BMWs. Can agree on all your points but i hate the always on Start-Stop though^^ Driving dynamics is unmatched and reliability is similar/even a little better than my BMWs (1 series and x1). If you love driving for fun - there is no better car yet still
@@christofthierry6907 those are the cheapest BMWs which share mini engines so you when you say just as reliable you're setting the bar pretty low
James, hello from the Republic of Ireland and you've made ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO. Keep doin' what you're doin'.
Thanks Martin! I have family in ROI - my Grandad comes from Cavan!
I was really surprised you didn't like the exhaust. I love it!
It sounds amazing.
Some of my neighbors have the Giulia. It's also great not to see either in boring black. Beautiful car.
Been fortunate enough to own lots of performance cars, my Stelvio QV was the best, I loved that thing.
Did you sell it? And why? Just curious... Cheers!
Loved the opening sixteen minute review(rant?), nice change up. Gorgeous car for sure.
I got into my Giulia QV with low expectations, but truly this is one of the very best cars I have ever owned (and I have, and do own, a lot of cars). I can also confirm that this is a car you can genuinely drive to a track day in comfort, run competitive and enjoyable laps, and drive home again in complete comfort. I upgraded mine to full Akrapovic exhaust and the noise it makes is unreal th-cam.com/video/DUBJNbpivHQ/w-d-xo.html
Twenty plus out of a 2.9 V6 is pretty good if you ask me. I've git a 2.0 veloce mapped to 325 hp and since my last fill up has only managed an average 19.3mpg . Mind you, my last 80 mile trip was done at 120+ lol
How much difference did the map make….?
My mum drives the veloce and I've got the quadrifoglio. To say that they're not very different and or not easy to tell apart is just ridiculous. And it doesn't sound like a nice car? I've heard friends say they'd prefer to have it louder, but not one person I've met has felt it doesn't sound nice. This guy is trying so damn hard to nit pick it is cringing. I have racing seats in mine but again, I don't understand the criticism of the interior. I didn't buy a car to have an iPad the size of my head in it or over the top nonsense. The Quadrifiglio is clean and well put together inside, comfortable and has what you need. After all, I bought it for its styling, wonderful steering, speed and how fun it is on the track. If you want to sit there and compare every tiny bit to a BMW, Mercedes etc, then you don't quite get it. I also have a C63. They're totally different cars. You buy a car for what it is. If you just sit there comparing and contrasting every single damn thing, you will always be left feeling short changed no matter what you have.
1st review of this car that someone doesn't like the sound of it.Its a turbo v6 not an old school gtv v6, so I am not sure what you were expecting.I test drove one and I couldn't stop smiling while listening to the exhaust on D and Race mode.I agree about the lack of options on interior colours. Its a special car for sure.
Hi James. I have a Giulia Veloce which I often drive back to back with my F360 I don’t find any issues modulating the brake, it feels pretty good to me, progressive and predictable. Not noticeably worse than the Ferrari but admittedly not as good as my Lotus Evoras.
Curious - as someone who has driven cars lie a F360 and Evora, how do you feel about the "drivers apeal" or the Veloce?
I recently sold my 147 GTA and im looking for an upgrade, but that car was so much fun to drive and had such a unique abilitiy to put a smile on my face. I cant stretch the budget to a QV, but a Giulia Veloce is within reach. Would you say the Veloce is a genuinely fun, sporty thing to drive?
@@pete3198 I chose the veloce because its great to drive, quick steering, decent steering feel, grips well. I recommend it.
@@bluegblueg
One of my three favorite things about the GTA was that quick steering - it really made the car feel so agile and chuckable.
The other two things about it that I loved were those amazing bucket seats and the engine/exhaust note. I know the Veloce can never replicate the last two, but if the steering is there maybe that's enough!
@@pete3198 I have a Veloce TI. It has the seats from the QF. They are pretty good
@@bluegblueg
Ooh nice.
I think I might need to take one for a test drive!
As they say in my country. 100 peoples, 100 opinions. Some wants all that fancy stuff in their cars some something else. I bought Giulia just because of driving experience. I never been so much of a fan what infotainment and other fancy things cars have. For me is only how it drives and what feeling it gave it to me. And Alfa succeeded with Giulia perfect.
It looks, sounds and drives like a dream, Amazing car.
An Alfa Romeo is all about the soul. That has to be the wonderful engine sound the handling the looks. After what seemed like an eternity there came the new Giulia which ticks all the right boxes.Electric power and sporting brands will never quite be there. So lets enjoy it while we can.
Quick and beautiful car. I love my 2018 QV in red.
Would like to emphasize this is from a British perspective. Having driven my Q in Britain for well over a thousand miles, the firmness of the suspension is indeed apparent on most roads. However, back in Holland, I hardly notice it at all. I do feel the ‘vocabulary’ of the suspension is lacking a bit. It either soaks or crashes but what’s in between is a bit muddled. So I’ve decided to invest in a set of KW coilovers (specially made for the Q) to improve this. I haven’t fitted them yet, but reviews say this is a big upgrade.
The complaints about the interior, I don’t get at all. There’s nothing really wrong with it. Sure, a German car might have some nicer materials, but who cares? The Alfa interior is practical, durable, looks nice enough, what more would you want? If you want a car you can pick up friends in and impress with your interior, buy a Rolls or a Maybach. But that sounds really sad, so why bother?
A bit flawed logic when it comes to the interior... Some people do indeed take issue with it. "Who cares?" can be said about every single part of a car. Most people would fail to see the point of the horsepower this got, "if you care about going fast why not buy a sportscar" they would say. You are obviously not very picky about interiors in cars such as this, and thats great for you. It gives you more options when buying, and I am happy you are pleased.
@@GoldenCroc Well said.
Nothing sad about picking my friends up in the Rolls....
@@GoldenCroc Depends what your priorities are. This is a 4 Door sedan that can keep up with a McLaren. Take that to the bank.
@@DDd-hr6mz Sure, thats what my whole post was about, diffrent people make different choices. Also, the problem with the "keep up with a Mclaren" statement from Alfas point of view, is that there other 4 door sedans that also can "keep up with a Mclaren" that a lot of people think got better interiors or other advantages...
I’ve had mine almost 4 years. A whopping 18,000 miles. I still chuckle every time I get into it and it’s the first car that I don’t want to sell after 12 months. This thing is going to stay in my family for decades. I also plan on having an exclusion policy for my 16 year old son. I love him too much to allow him to kill himself in it
The Jiulia Quadrifolio hopefully soon will be my next vehicle.
So ? IS it ?
I had one. Broke it last Christmas Day. How? Race mode and Pirelli corsas in the wet. I hadn’t gone crazy either. Straight into a tunnel wall and instant write off. Alfa really do need to have traction control on race mode!
The Giorgio platform can be made electric: the new Maserati Grecale, that is basically a Stelvio underneath, is getting an electric version
Esatto. British reporters are dumb parrots. They misunderstood CEO Imparato saying that the Giorgio name is finished, but not the platform that will evolve into STLA Large.
🤮
About the owners manual - my veloce book has a beautiful matching leather with stitch pouch, so I’m surprised the QV comes with a bag hahahaha
Gorgeous machine!
I bought a Rosso 2017 Veloce and had similar opinions to yours. It actually worked decently as a luxury GT and was reliable. I had it for 5 years and 28k miles. In the US, they are relatively rare. I do not trust Stellantis even slightly.
When I was 18, my first car was almost a 164 but the ones around my price range where all torn apart, so I went with the Opala instead(in the end the Opala I bought was worse and Im still restoring it today, but I digress), after the 164, I never really liked any newer alfas, and until a couple of years ago I didnt even know about the new giulia and the stelvio... then I moved to italy, even with the ludicrous amount of cool cars here that I have never seen before back home, the giulia is aways one that when it passes by I think, "damn, thats a cool car, I want one."
(And as you guessed, Im a JDM fan)
Right now,the best European car for the price!
You give an engaging review, but many of your criticisms are unfairly negative. Please allow me to respond to some of your criticism. 1) “Reliability issues”: I own a 2018 QV for four years, and have had no issues. Just regular annual service; 2) “COST”, you state that the M3 COMP costs 10 K pounds more but consider it same price as the QV. No, the QV costs 10 K pounds less. Financing depends on many things and may vary by country. In Canada where I live, similar financing; 3) “things may fall out of the car”, this is not fair. I own the QV for 4 years, and my wife drives a 2018 Giulia for 4 years, and nothing has fallen off the car; 4) “break-by-wire system”, you have the right to dislike it, however, I have no issues with it on the highway, in city traffic or in parking. Just take the small amount of time to get used to the car and the breaking system. I have no problems going back and forth between my 2012 Audi Q5 (with regular breaks) and the QV. Like all cars, the driver needs to get used to a new car as soon as the car has been bought; 5) “infotainment system”, Mine came with AppleCar Play. I prefer the QV’s because of its simplicity and how it provides the info that I want without the flashy German graphics. For example, the latter requires choosing between an exhaustive list of variables for the driving modes (especially in BMWs) thus requiring experimentation on the options and wasting time with the menu selection. The QV provides the most optimal selection of the variables (obtained by expert engineers and drivers) for each mode and gets me engaged directly with the superb driver activities of the QV rather than wasting time switching through the menu maze; 6) “tires”. The Pirelli P0 CORSA tires that come standard on the QV are performance summer racing tires. I think everyone knows any pure racing tire from any brand requires appropriate warming up for optimal use. Were your comments derived after proper warming? Anyways, one can always change the tires to regular summer tires, eg. Pirelli P0 or other brands; 7) “nice engine noise only available on race mode” . As I did, ask the Alfa dealer. It takes 15 mins for the dealer to place a simple tie wrap at the exhaust to keep the RACE noise on at all times. No electronic mod is required. I can go on and on. However, my QV is a superb car for the track, traffic and easy to park. Perhaps, you may have less viewers if you avoid providing extravagant and, in my opinion, unfair remarks. I believe criticism must be justified by experience, as I have done above, with my own experiences with the car.
Problem is when do we get a sunny sky and and a clear road at the same moment in time in the UK
if anyone is curious about the differences to 2020+ models to the earlier ones, watch “Autofanatics” videos on them. he owned a 2021 and a currently a 2018. long story short, the unrefined characteristics and steering of the 2018 is what he prefers as they “softened” the 2020+ models a bit more.
Maybe it's just on the video, but you said it doesn't sound very good, then showed it driving away, and it sounds superb. I guess it's down to the individual.
I Definitely don't agree with the criticism of the interior. It is way better than the German rivals. It has style and the overall package it's just as close as perfect as you can get
Got a chance to test a 2018 QF recently, and out of all the cars I’ve driven, it was the first one that made me feel like THIS IS IT. Never have I had that feeling before as soon as getting behind the wheel.
Within a heartbeat i would buy any Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio or any Alfa....
Calling it "forgotten" in the opening statement was surprisingly hyperbolic coming from such a great YT channel
I have owned a Giulia Quadrifoglio for three years and absolutely loved it. Now I have a BMW i4 M50 and I sorely miss my Giulia. Such a great car it was. And, honestly, the BMW does not seem so much better in terms of interior quality.
First review I've ever seen on this car that states how firm the suspension is.....all others say its quite supple....maybe they tinkered with the face-lift...
It is just amazing how beautiful that is. Add the performance and to me it beats all Germans in its price range. Also the view from the inside is actually quite good. I did not expect that given the narrow driver door entry. 🔥🏎🔥
former M4 owner (and former '17 QV owner), current '23 QV owner. great comprehensive video, thanks! No complaints about the M4 but i never got giddy walking up to it and then driving it. The smile on my face when i see the alfa, the ear to ear grin when i drive it and the looks it gets from others around town have not diminished from day one. that said, the '17 and the current one (already) have thrown many an error code...but it's the price you pay i suppose.
My local funeral director in my village has a Quadrifoglio, to use when he's not in his Porsche GT3RS or Lamborghini Aventador or Maserati Coupe.
Car enthusiasts know this is a special vehicle. I have a 911 GTS and a Stelvio QV, and there are frequently times when I prefer driving the Alfa.
Clearly dead people are good for business.
Another great video James. Absolutely love the Giulia
I watch a lot of car reviews , I had a Guilia and now have a Stelvio , its a great car , but seriously these reviewers just talk soo much rubbish , I think this guy just likes the sound of his own voice. These new Alfas have few things that could be improved for sure, however they give so much more back to you, you smile when you drive them, and they are reliable .
Regarding the rattle, watch Auto Fanatics latest video.. gotta remove the reflector on the door & check the screw inside.. there’s a plastic tab where that screw is, replace that with a metal piece
