  • Nothing better than a beautiful spring day spent on one of my favorite local waters. Join me as I capture the natural beauty of this area while wetting my line for some stunning little wild trout. We'll hike, cook some good food, appreciate wildlife and have a heck of a good time. Thanks for watching.

    Super stunning location and you expertly captured all of its charms and nuances. Frankly, I could watch and thoroughly enjoy your videos even if there was no fishing in them (but of course, the tenkara is the icing on the cake!). I know takes on drys are a thrill but for maximum success, you just can't beat a nymph. Thanks for all of your hard work.

      Thanks as always for the kind words! I feel like I often learn something from your comments. I also feel like you're quite perceptive. I suppose it could be a coincidence in this case, but I'm wondering if you picked up on the fact that I had way more b-roll than normal in this video?
      Plenty of fishing still, but I'm wanting to lean more into the *experience* of being in the places that fishing brings me instead of just the fishing. Along with cooking, hiking, camping, wildlife etc. This was the first video I filmed this season in this revised style and I edited it up to put it out quickly just to make sure it was working for me (and iron out potential hiccups with my new lav mic haha). It definitely felt more true to my goals, so I'll likely continue along this path. Glad to hear you seem to be here for it!

    I met you up along the poudre about a month ago in a parking lot not too far from the mouth of the canyon. I was trying out a western rod and you noticed the tenkara rod in my backpack. I just wanted to say your content is excellent and maybe we’ll bump into each other again and throw some lines in the water. Keep up the great work man! - John from Laporte

    What a lovely stream - and how great it is you can count that among your “local waters”! Thanks for sharing another wonderful episode. Beautifully photographed and edited, as always!

    Beautiful canyon. Hate wind, except when it's up stream. I use a Nano Firebox Stove for shore lunch. Soup, sandwich and tea. Nice day out, Chris

    Fished that same area last weekend. Caught a few little browns about 7-8". I had brought my 9'-5wt which was way too much. Should have brought my 7'6-3wt. Surprising how small this section of the river is compared to upriver several more miles..

      Nice! Yeah, the size of fish here could definitely be better. I did catch a big 16-17''ish rainbow last year. Perhaps a brooder they threw in there! I'm planning on fishing further upriver next. Heard the fish are bigger too.

    What's your experience with that fish tank you were holding the fish in? Would it be smart to put one on the guide boat somehow?

    • @FlickyFlies
      @FlickyFlies  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it could be cool. My experience was pretty poor though, but it was kind of my fault. I stuck it in my backpack in a plastic bag and it got completely scratched up and then cracked haha. I also felt it was too much of a hassle to hold the trout in the tank and then film it, so I likely won't be using it anymore. If you wanted to pop a fish in there for your clients and then grab a pic with an iPhone or something quick, it might be neat.

      @@FlickyFlies thanks for the response! I went looking for a tank and couldn't figure out what to buy. Any recommendations? Im also thinking about using my fly tester tank that has a protective case

    What pants and shoes do you use? Do you use the same footwear for hiking and fishing? Does it have good traction on slippery rocks/moss?

    • @FlickyFlies
      @FlickyFlies  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm using some Wrangler pants from Wal-Mart, but they honestly aren't that great. Durability is a big problem. They are cheap but they pill up really quickly. Wanna try something different out soon. For footwear I'm using Croc Bistros. It has to be the Bistro model though, not regular Crocs. They are *extremely* grippy. Made for working in grocery stores and whatnot. Of all the shoes I've ever owned, they are the grippiest. They are still Crocs though, so if you don't like that loose feel and not being laced up they're still going to feel that way. Your mileage may vary, but man I love them. Neoprene socks when the water is very cold.
