I saw Tom T. hall play in Boulder Colorado back in 1975. It was in a school auditorium and he was great.
Johnny Rodriguez got his start by playing with Tom t. Hall. Hall brought him from Texas and introduced him to Chet Atkins over at RCA.

Tom T Hall was in my opinion one of the best writers of all time. Everything that he wrote was taken from life, real people and real situations. His stories talk about all the complexities of life, simplified and boiled down into a 3 minute tune. Each song paints a picture in your mind and you can almost see these folks as if you were watching a movie. You need to dive deeper and look up some of his lesser known stuff. One of my favorite songs that he wrote was a song called Second Handed Flowers. I am also very partial to a song he wrote called I Want To See The Parade... with all of the racial tension today, people could take a lesson from that little tune written by a simple country boy 50 years ago this year.

@@DjPjrocReacts911 Thank you my friend. I love to see people appreciating all types of music. Even if I don't regularly listen to a specific type of music because of my personal taste, I at least try to appreciate what the artists are trying to do and say, and understand what others are getting out of it. Understanding and appreciating music will open up your world! For me, it gave me a better understanding of my friends, neighbors, co-workers, acquaintances etc, when I delved in to what they enjoy and actually understood it, then it gave me fuel to start conversations that I wouldn't have had without that because I can now relate. Hope that made sense! I've been watching you for a while, but just subscribed today. Keep up the great content!

Good stuff, Sir! Thank you for these reactions.
Tom T. Is a great story teller, but I think his real talent is a little deeper than that. On the surface, most of Tom's songs are about very small, inconsequential situations. In his songs, Tom turns those insignificant things into a much broader picture of life. In this song, he takes a five minute conversation with a stranger and turns it into an entire philosophy on a content and simple way of life.

When I was about 12 I went to spend the summer with my Dad, and he had taken up a new hobby of making wine. When I walked into his house, there were glass jars of all sizes everywhere; all over the kitchen, the dining room and the living room...even on top of the TV. Excitedly, he gave me the tour of his experiments with all different kinds of grape wines, banana wine, tomato wine and just about anything he could imagine to try, but when it came to that big 5 gallon jar of watermelon wine, I didn't think he was ever going to stop talking about it. lol He was really proud of the watermelon wine. That was also the first time I ever went to a concert, which just happened to be Tom T. Hall, with Ray Price and Charlie Pride.

I'm a little late to the party but I am from the eastern shore , born and raised on the Mason Dixon Line (the state line between North and South that seperates Pennsylvania and Maryland) and my family goes back to the Appelachian Mountains in Southern Virginia, I make a wine from a recipe handed down to me by my great grandfather who was full blood irish. I make 5gal at a time , any fruit (except grapes) this wine has a "4 minute flavor" I call it , and yes I have made and had a drink or 2 of Watermellon Wine ...its just delicious..... at first it taste just like the bland rind but as you savour the flavor you taste the red fruit and then the sweetnes at the end. As you continue to drink it the rind flavor fades into the spectrum and after a glass all you can taste is
    Sweet Watermellon Wine.
I can make any fruit into incredible wine in about 6 months. The alcohol is all natural and quite a different experience than regular wine
    (it'll kick your ass)
I'm now in Carson City Nevada , hit me up if you want to get in on making a batch of Watermellon Wine from the fruit to the glass.
My favorite thing to do is to turn people on to great grandpa's wine and hear them rediscover their wine palet , this isn't your sour , dry as a cat's ass, California Wine. This is wine the way it is supposed to be made , pure and natural.
    (5gal =30 bottles)

This performance was probably 20 or so years after he recorded the song and I guess he thought no one would know what he was talking about if he said the guy was watching Ironsides. I will reveal my age, but I certainly know who Ironsides was.

    "Homecoming"
Now, being a hillbilly, I can tell you that the process to make that wine is pretty simple. The big thing is an airlock to let the gas off. I once made one by running tubing from a bottle to a pickle jar, lol.
Just put air holes in the lid, run the tube below water in the jar and make sure you have a good seal on the jug/bottle where you're making the wine.
I'm sure there's good recipes on TH-cam, as I've not made any from watermelon...yet.
Tom T Hall has a small moonshine still on display at the Country Music Hall Of Fame from his younger years.
