Love that you like so much Nicholas Jaar work. I´m an admirer of her father, chilean artist Alfredo Jaar and was great to see almost 20 years after that his son is such a talent. He lived here till he was 11 and comes from time to time to play and connect to the roots, saw her a couple of times on Mutek Chile and another venues. Fun that he was inspired to play electronic music by another countryman, this time from both our lands, Villalobos. Great vid, cheers and take care!
Great List thanks a lot! For me is Delta cream from the Black Keys on of the Best sounding album’s this year! Try to trust the ears on the first 2 songs!
Thank you for a great list of "the usual suspects", as well as some other titles I would never have checked out had it not been for your channel. Definitely hunting down a copy of the Darkside album. Keep up the good work amigo!
Hi Michael. Since I have been viewing your channel my music tastes have expanded and my record Collection has grown considerably. I have a copy of space is only noise and Spiral as featured today, also now Autechre, Alva Noto, Pete Namlook, Acid mt Fuji, Jon Hopkins, Eric Dolphy, Grant Green and many more, thank you. Am collecting a lot of the neo & crossover classical on Deutsch Grammophon. Also your mentioned Dead can dance. Also have got into Future sound of London. Am trying not to break the bank, thanks from Rob
Splendid!!! Glad you mentioned Space is only Noise! It really is very good, black deep and incredibly quiet noise floor and very enjoyable! Many thanks as always
Ry Cooder is not an underestimated artist in my home :-) From this record onwards RC has put out one great record after another. And then one has to consider his work with Buena Vista and Ali Farke Toure and Mambo Sinuedo. This self-titled record is quite old now but any of Ry#s recent release are sure to bring pleasure. Ry Cooder - a true Artist.
I have never been an Eagles fan but I decided to order Desperado and S/T after hearing the Paul Simon one step. The Eagles self titled is one of the most amazing sounding albums I have ever heard. I feel similar to you that it almost elevates the music and makes you hear it in a completely different light. I have played it for people who don’t care about audiophile recordings and they were absolutely floored. Great list.
I just sampled Space is Only Noise. I’m going to have to seek out a copy. I definitely loved both Darkside releases. Thanks for another great recommendation.
Michael, I always enjoy your top ten lists and always come away with a new record(s) to seek out. This time it will be Nicolás Jaar Space Is Only Noise. Thanks for the recommendation.
I just ordered the MoFi Iron Butterfly super vinyl from Music Direct a few days ago (thanks to a 45rpm Audiophile recommendation at the Hoffman Forum) and received shipping notice. Still listed as In Stock at the site. Order quickly if you’re interested! Will likely be gone by the end of the day after this video. Thanks again Michael!
I bought the Parkside release after your recommendation earlier this year in Green 45 rpm. An unbelievable sound experience takes you to another level thanks keep up the great content
Loving this hooded sweater. I'm in the market for a new one. I'll keep you posted on the winter wardrobe update :-). Have been enjoying the in-flux of content from you over the last couple of weeks. Many thanks for your efforts and care as always, my friend. Still crossing our fingers for some DE Balmorhea concerts later next Spring. Sending love and warm wishes from the softly spinning platter under a little LA Christmas tree to you and S.
Very interesting video Michael. I actually think that Desperado’s sound quality is better than Eagles. Either way both are great and can’t wait for my Hotel California order to ship. Enjoy
Hi Michael an interesting list again but I might disagree with you on what is classed as an audiophile release. For me it is only by an audiophile label or mastered by an audiophile engineer- but just my view of course. I have buying audiophile records for 17 years now and for 2021 I have bought the lowest amount (49) than in any year since I started in 2005. The quality I agree is good but the quantity is not- We have more focus on One Steps, Box Sets etc and so less releases in total. Finally I would have the Jeff Beck and both Harry Nilsson MFSL titles in my list and I do agree with you about the Ry Cooder self titled - just stunning.
True! If the music sounds great/ is well recorded you can even really enjoy music you normally wouldn’t give a listen. This phenomenon leads to an increasing musical horizon and personal development regarding the huge universe of music 🎼🎵🎶🤓
Haha, that will teach me to be precipitous, can’t argue with any of your selection, well, apart from the Eagles, who I can’t stand but that would be churlish. Thank you for the reminder about Mia & Darkside, must look for them immediately. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos, it’s much appreciated.
Great video as usual👍 Was looking for the Rolling Stones reissues from Abbey Road???.....oh wait..... forgot Miles Showell got his hands on the original tapes 🙉😓🙉😢
I totally believe it on the number one. The Eagles first album even the original release sounds great . I seriously doubt Hotel California will sound as well. I think their first album sounds the best of all their albums. Great list . Thanks again.
So glad you found the other Simon record! :) Michael, are you a Professor? You are so well spoken. Have you made an "Origin of 45 RPM Audiophile" video?
Great list, Michael with great coverage of my taste for the best 2021 reissues! Maybe one fact worth to mention is, that the 2 Mofi One steps of the Eagles were practically not obtainable in Germany or in Europe ! The Paul Simon really blew me away with the musicianship of the studio musicians he had on this record (Steve Gadd, Tony Levin etc.). Incredible drum sound!
Michael, did you noticed that the drum solos on titles Trace and Variations from Nicolas Jaar LP are from the legendary Sheffield Drum Record (Jim Keltner). I bought this record aprox. in 1982 at the beginning of my HiFi journey. Thank you vey much for this great recommendations. Greeting form HH
If you like the Ry Cooder, and you don't have his "Boomer's Story" from Mobile Fidelity, I think it is ABSOLUTELY worth grabbing. I gave it a listen the other night and it, again, blew my mind. I was reminded how much care he puts into everything. Highly recommend it.
An album that would rank high in my top 10 list is the recent Damon Albarn: The nearer the fountain. Beautifully serene album and great vinyl quality. Highly recommended IMO. And that for a mere 22 euros on Amazon.
I had two new acquisitions this year from the pop music category that I’ve played them like there’s no tomorrow and really, really love them (equally). Neither released this year, though. 1: Sing and Dance w Frank Sinatra (Impex); 2: The Complete Peggy Lee & June Christy Capitol Transcription Sessions (Mosaic)
I am glad you like the Nicholas Jaar so much, Michael. I have a friend who has met him on a few occasions and apparently he is a really nice guy, in addition to being a great musician. Unfortunately my copy of the 45 RPM on clear vinyl has a terrible amount of surface noise - which somehow gets worse during all my favorite songs (funny how it always works out that way...). I think this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me on clear vinyl. I really wish they would retire that color - it almost always sounds noisy and doesn't even look good.
You will also love the French EMI/Columbia box set/ recordings of Samson Francois playing complete solo piano music by Debussy and Ravel...and Nocturnes by Chopin! Not easy to get but precious treasures.
Yes, quite true. Although my favourite Debussy pianists remain Michelangeli and Gieseking. BTW, an audiophile Debussy piano tip not everybody knows: Ivan Moravec on the Athena label. Good copies are available for around 40-50 bucks.
@@musiconrecord6724 Thanks for asking. Samson Francois: Debussy 4 LP set. Ravel early pressing 3 LP set/ late pressing 4LP (+7 inch) set including the 2 concertos (Andre Cluytens!!) Chopin Nocturnes 2 LP set (Only 19, he didn't record the 2 posths'!)
Great list Michael! I think VMP has released great sound quality records this year. Only in the Country series: Shotgun Willie and Grievous Angel come to mind. Bill Withers ’+’ justments seemed fantastic to me, also Grizzly Bear’s Veckatimest. The AAA edition of My Bloody Valentine's Isn’t Anything is extraordinary. The recent reissue of Elvis Costello’s This Years Model is also excellent (cut by Ryan K Smith). Another very well done reissue is Spiritualized's Lazer Guided Melodies (double 45 rpm). Among the new records, my favorite is Promises by Floating Points with Pharoah Sanders (and the LSO). Wonderful music and my pressing is excellent (it was cut by Chris Bellman). Another new record that I really liked and that I think sounds great - although it certainly isn't "audiophile" - is Snail Mail's Valentine. We are already entering the field of “jazz”, but, for me, one of the albums with the best sound quality this year is Uneasy by Vijay Iyer. This year I was not very interested in One Steps (I mean, I like Eagles, Paul Simon, BS&T, but not enough to buy One Steps)... but the next years interest me a lot!
And I have… none of those editions. However I agree Those are overall great sounding albums. The Ry Cooder one has always been a favourite. Great list again. Maybe I Will get one or two. Thanks
I've never been a Ry Cooder fan and stick mainly to rock but after hearing you recommend Ry Cooder self titled I decided to try it and an I glad I did. It sounds amazing. Another album I just got that sounds amazing is John Mayall - The Turning Point. I highly recommend it.
Yes, it happens to me… a great sounding record makes me listen carefully and like. I like it even more when it's a "normal" record at regular price. And I can't see a reason for the regular records to be bad. The last one that blows me away is Neil Young Carnegie Hall 1970… I didn't care about Neil Young… man, what a fantastic record. The other way around it's true… a crappy records turns me off, a shitty recording, a bad pressing turns me crazy with frustration.
"I like it even more when it's a 'normal' record at regular price." That's an interesting bit of psychology that I agree with. When it's replaceable, you don't worry as much about playing it all the time. Which is partly why I was so disappointed with the BN Classic Series release of Maiden Voyage (which has lackluster sound and a fair degree of surface noise - at least my copy does.) Such a great album (probably my favorite Hancock record), but come on, did I really need to drop $75 for the Music Matters pressing to get a good copy?
@@terrywho22 For me it's not that. I don't care if it's replaceable, all my records will outlive me and I have them to play, I don't care about resale value. I do take care of them thought. What I see is I have some amazing records at what I say it's a fair price. Michael talks highly of the classic series now… that's great value, great music, great records. With the others cost twice and more that? The "audiophile" records some times are as crap as the others and they're completely overpriced. A couple of years ago hu, oh, that's small batch, no scale, uh, oh, we're small… now there's scale, they're pressing in the thousands, and the prices are going up.
I have the original Space Is Only Noise. Bought it back in 2011. Does anyone have any idea if the 10th anniversary release is a serious upgrade? Thank you for the interesting video, Michael. As always. 👍
Happy to see Ry Cooder on the list and it is a great sounding release. Speakers Corner do release a lot of good stuff. From a musical standpoint I don’t think it’s one of his best. I would recommend anybody that wants to get into his music, and is interested in good sound, to start with one of the three MoFi reissues released a couple of years ago.
Have you received the Janis Joplin Pearl One-Step? I just picked up mine on the weekend after waiting 10 months. It is fantastic - I would put it ahead of the Paul Simon. But maybe a bit biased as I am a big Janis fan.
Great to see Nicolás Jaar in there. For me this list shows how strong the jazz reissues have been the last two years and how ignored or too complicated to repress other genres are. Would be interested to know your 2021 releases, some great albums for me have been: Sons Of Kemet, IDLES, Trio Mediæval, Bastien Keb, Dean Blunt, Declan O'Rourke and Black Country New Road.
Great list. Love the videos and your enthusiasm. So many good ones this year... The Church "Starfish", Intervention Records Phish "Sigma Oasis" Jeff Beck "Truth", MoFi Metallica Black Album My Morning Jacket -self titled- Vinyl Me Please Spiritualized "Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space" - VMP R.E.M. "New Adventures In HiFi" 25th Anniversary (Kevin Gray) Nas "King's Disease" Bill Withers "Just As I Am" - VMP
Sadly I was not familiar with Nicolas Jaar prior to your video, thank you. I see that one song from the original recording is not on the reissue, but since I have not heard it this is not important. With that though have your heard the original pressing in comparison ?
Moin Michael! Ich mag deine Beiträge und habe mir schon so manche deiner Empfehlungen ins Regal gestellt. Vor allem hat mich Darkside sehr beeindruckt! Auch „Space is only Noise“ 45 RPM ist wirklich demofähig.
What a year and there seems to be no end to the audiophile LP boom. At least I hope so. And congratulations on finding the second Paul Simon LP. I am also missing something currently - the (very nice and comprehensive) booklet of my (today quite valuable) La Monte Young "Well Tuned Piano" boxset. But it must be somewhere in the house!
Michael , on a serious note, I notice you are getting the recent Can live stuff. I have Stuttgart, unbelievable stuff eh? And, on Rachel livestream just now, you mentioned something about what might happen if you protest in the Rhineland...I am working on a project for University, we should talk.
And I love Nicolas Jaar's Space Is Only Noise since it came out ten years ago, but I don't have it on vinyl. Ordered! And while I prefer Neil Young from the 70s, my favorite release (by him) this year was Way Down in the Rust Bucket. Excellent concert! I also really liked Young Shakespeare and Carnegie, but WDRB was my favorite. I haven't heard the LP, but Bruce Springsteen's No Nukes concert (on Blu-ray) is killer!
I understand that they want people to buy the full discography, but it's a bit disappointing that MoFi has yet to announce any intention to release the Eagles Greatest Hits 1971-1975. It's great for people who are really into the Eagles to have every studio album, but the blue compilation is such an iconic record it deserves a high-quality release imo.
I've seen a lot of collectors keep their vinyl outside of the record cover. Why is this ? I'm open to learn but before you tell me this, it seems bizarre.
The Eagles stuff does not make sense. If I am not mistaken, at least the first couple of albums were mastered by Doug Sax at The Mastering Lab. How much better can these reissue possibly sound almost fifty years later? You can still find the originals for under 10 bucks. lol maybe On The Border could use a remastering lol
Honestly, I appreciate the fact that you didn't listen to the minority of us that share no love for the Eagles and went with your own ear in these recommendations. Just in the same way that I appreciate that you don't delete comments than don't agree with your selections (so long as they aren't malicious and are trying to express a point.) *Oh, I'm still unsubscribing,* but I admire your integrity. (😂 🤣😂 🤣Just kidding. I'll be checking out your Nicolas Jaar selections and see you next video!!!)
I have some very good releases from this year and have played catch up with analogue productions. Patricia Barber Cafe Blue one step, Miles Davis Kind Of Blue Uhqr. I think 22 is going to be a year of excellence for audiophiles. Hopefully Impex records will get some releases and analogue productions like to make you wait before they let the cat out of the bag. Have got the 6 doors releases and 5 norah jones, which I love.
Michael, Love your videos.. couple of comments/suggestions: (1) th-cam.com/video/ajQ4Uq_nxKs/w-d-xo.html you'll know in the first 20 seconds why I've shared this .. (2) I realize its more work for you but if you were to include the names of all the records that you review in each of your videos in the description section, their chance of coming up for those searching for videos on those specific titles will come up - increasing your view count. I know often I want to re-watch some of your videos and being able to search by record title and label/pressing/etc. in your channel would be a great thing.. otherwise all good!
«Incredible», «beautiful», «stunning», «great», «unbelievable», «masterful», and so on and so on. These empty adjectives are all what this so-called reviewer is able to come up with, in this video and in all the others he produce. Honestly, it’s so hollow, it’s embarrassing. What is beautiful? Why is it stunning? Please tell us.

Have you received the Janis Joplin Pearl One-Step? I just picked up mine on the weekend after waiting 10 months. It is fantastic - I would put it ahead of the Paul Simon. But maybe a bit biased as I am a big Janis fan.
No i dont have it. I hope it comes soon
The Church "Starfish", Intervention Records
Phish "Sigma Oasis"
Jeff Beck "Truth", MoFi
Metallica Black Album
My Morning Jacket -self titled- Vinyl Me Please
Spiritualized "Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space" - VMP
R.E.M. "New Adventures In HiFi" 25th Anniversary (Kevin Gray)
Nas "King's Disease"
Bill Withers "Just As I Am" - VMP
Sadly I was not familiar with Nicolas Jaar prior to your video, thank you. I see that one song from the original recording is not on the reissue, but since I have not heard it this is not important. With that though have your heard the original pressing in comparison ?
Moin Michael!
Ich mag deine Beiträge und habe mir schon so manche deiner Empfehlungen ins Regal gestellt. Vor allem hat mich Darkside sehr beeindruckt!
Auch „Space is only Noise“ 45 RPM ist wirklich demofähig.

Sehr cool verlinke doch deinen beitrag hier
Ja, mache ich gerne…
What a year and there seems to be no end to the audiophile LP boom. At least I hope so. And congratulations on finding the second Paul Simon LP. I am also missing something currently - the (very nice and comprehensive) booklet of my (today quite valuable) La Monte Young "Well Tuned Piano" boxset. But it must be somewhere in the house!
Great list, I have 6 of the top 10
Michael , on a serious note, I notice you are getting the recent Can live stuff. I have Stuttgart, unbelievable stuff eh? And, on Rachel livestream just now, you mentioned something about what might happen if you protest in the Rhineland...I am working on a project for University, we should talk.
Sure Brother remind me at Rachels we can talk for sure
@@Michael45RPM Thanks Michael, but I am banned from Rachel for ripping on Mazzy and The Waxed all the time
@@Michael45RPM How can I get my contact info to you private like?
Agree. The Eagles were definitely a hit singles band so the greatest hits album would be best.
I thought the Desperado One Step was better than the self-titled one.
:-)
@@Michael45RPM The address is newvelle-records with a commercial top level domain.
👌👌
Michael, Love your videos.. couple of comments/suggestions: (1) th-cam.com/video/ajQ4Uq_nxKs/w-d-xo.html you'll know in the first 20 seconds why I've shared this .. (2) I realize its more work for you but if you were to include the names of all the records that you review in each of your videos in the description section, their chance of coming up for those searching for videos on those specific titles will come up - increasing your view count. I know often I want to re-watch some of your videos and being able to search by record title and label/pressing/etc. in your channel would be a great thing.. otherwise all good!
Thx for the link Hooman, liked it :-) You are right with the titles, but in a ranking video it would take of the surprise i think :-)
Hello Michael. Great video. Your references are essential. I adore. thanks
