  • Lisa Gade reviews the HP EliteBook 845 G7 with AMD Ryzen Pro CPUs inside for a performance boost and a nicer price. This aluminum clad premium 14” business Ultrabook starts at $999 and it’s available with a variety of full HD IPS matte non-touch and touch displays including HP’s Sure View 1,000 nit option. The laptop has a strong selection of ports and is quite upgradable (even the RAM!). It has USB-C, optional 4G LTE-A, Wi-Fi 6, a fingerprint scanner and Windows Hello IR camera. It competes with the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s.

After having used only ThinkPads for years now, and my last Tiger Lake based being hottish,
this time I got the EliteBook 835 G8 Ryzen 5850U and all in all I am
liking it. Was afraid that I might dislike the keyboard, but it is
really good, though I like the ThinkPad one more and I am really missing
the TrackPoint! Will wait once Zen 4 mobile comes and see what ThinkPad
will have on offer. Overall to ThinkPad lovers/users, I do recommend
EliteBook definitely, less the TrackPoint and maybe some sturdiness.

  • @ZachStein

Quick note about the 32GB. You can install 32GB SODIMMs to get 64GB, above the HP spec!
I really like the level of detail on this, particularly about the innards.

Thank you Lisa for another great review.
I bought the HP X360 back in 2015 based on your review with no regrets. The only thing I couldn't get used to was the glossy screen but it has been reliable and ideal for my use case. I mostly use my computer docked with dual monitors, external keyboard/mouse and printer/scanner attached, but regularly use it as a mobile device when travelling. It is still powering on today but I now use a Dell Xps 13 as my daily driver. I think my next computer will be either this HP Elite book or a Lenovo T14s. It will also be a ryzen device this time.
    Keep up the great work.

I'd like to buy one of those 2nd hand on ebay but it's extremely difficult to find which models do carry the 400nits 72% ntsc display. Because it's a disgrace that HP still provide subpar 250 nits display in this top line of very reliable notebooks.

    • @coxxycabee
      @coxxycabee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I was disappointed. I just bought an Intel G9 version brand new from HP. Anything other than the 250 nits version is not available in the Australian HP store. Another peculiar difference is that the Australian versions use Intel's U processors instead of the P processors in the US store.

Actually I have the intel version of this laptop and I don’t like it.
    Reasons:
    1. For its price, it is significantly heavier than its competitors.
    2. It is less stable than Dell Latitude and Thinkpads (there are bugs).
    3. Often windows updates confuses drivers (for example FN keys stopped working after an update)
    4. For some reason my elite book chassis is twisted and it’s not stable on the table.
