    Two Gold Wing owner in town each have over 600,000 miles on their Wings without every cracking open the case. Try that on any other bike. What this guy is pointing out is that Honda has not only thought outside the box but also gone outside the box. The rest of motorcycling can wallow in tradition. I just bought a 2016 Wing. It is amazing

      Excellent! My bike is not a GW but is a Honda. I was hoping to remain in the arena of Hondas when it comes to ownership. But lately I was looking towards getting something somewhat of a cross breed bike, a sport touring type. I admire and accept everything about the GWs based on everything I've heard so far, except a possible flaw concerning the placement of the left foot peg on the 2015 models. It interferes with deep leaning left of the bike where the foot gear actually drags the ground. I am not an exceptional rider by any means but I've adopted a policy riding "paranoid" in order to stay aware of any and everything going on around me. That would definitely interfere with my mental awareness and preparedness.

    After owning Harleys for over 30 years I traded my 2013 Road Glide Custom for a 2013 F6B, because the heat was unbearable, and there is no comparison. The F6B's ride, handling, performance, maintenance, quickness, RELIABILITY are so much more superior to any Harley I ever had with 2 radiators and 2 high speed fans it is cool as a cucumber in summer in traffic. Unlike Harley Honda designed the fans to blow out away from you and not rise up into legs, crotch and everything else North. This thing is a bullet and I took it cross country in 2015 effortlessly, it was like riding a road sofa. I will NEVER buy an air cooled bike again and my F6B was totaled in March but I will replace it. Example: break in maintenance on the Harley @ 500 miles, break in maintenance on the F6B @ 5000 miles. No-brainer

      A Road King compared to a Goldwing? I had a 2004 Road King and after 60,000 miles she started showing her age. There is no bike on the road that has more maintenance free miles than the Goldwing. These things just start breaking in at 100,000.

    So, a couple things. You're dead-on about the floorboards. The Wing sits too upright for them to work, and are unnecessary given the highway peg options available (I strongly recommend the RIVCO pegs that mount seamlessly to the valve covers and are positioned perfectly). Secondly, the Wing is not the Cadillac of motorcycles, it's the Lexus. Cadillacs have both design and engineering flaws, and the company needed government assistance to remain solvent. Ergo, HD is the Cadillac of motorcycles.

      The weight has almost nothing to do with it. It's all so low that you don't feel it. The 900 pound goldwing feels lighter and is easier to control than my 360 pound Xr650l. Not to mention the goldwing has WAY better brakes.
      Once you get over the idea of "oh my God this thing is so huge I'm kinda nervous" you quickly realize that it really IS easy to drive. Easiest bike I've ever ridden.

I cant stop riding and I dont care if its cold! Honda basically invented the idea of no hassle riding. The original CB 450 of 1966, and the 750 in 1969 were revolutionary compared to the other bikes of the time. Their target customer has always been someone who wanted a motorcycle, but didn't want to be a biker.

    The Goldwing didn’t ruin motorcycles. It’s a very different experience than other bikes, but there is clearly a demand for them. I would love one so I could just leave my car parked most of the time. There’s heavy traffic on the highways where I live, so I would be able to ride in the carpool lane always and save time and fuel. A full fairing machine like that would allow me to ride 9-10 months of the year or more where I live.

    My 2015 Honda F6B is the most comfortable bike ever... Heated grips, cruise control and then the radio for endless miles of relaxed riding.... my cruiser bike is sitting at least not lonely in the shop, it has the classic one for company... I heard a lot of stuff like "old man's bike", "rolling sofa" etc. ... but nothing could be farther from the truth.... If I would have gone Wing in my 20's I probably would have my third or fourth one by now... Going through all the models... I guess the Wing has broke me in and not the other way around.... maybe I am opting in a few years for the Touring model and put a sidecar on my F6B, who knows.... Comes with recommendation and thumbs way up... You need to ride it to believe it, but beware new riders buy something small as a first bike and this will be your second and last one...

    The Gold Wing was ahead of its time because it served a more discerning demographic. As the benefits of the smoother engine & ride and creature comforts became more appreciated and spread to other bikes, motorcycles became more attractive to a wider audience. Remember the ad, 'You meet the nicest people on a Honda.'? Honda, then as now, was all about widening the audience and bringing more people into motorcycling.

    The best thing about the Goldwing is that it's not a Harley. There is no need to dress like a gay pirate in your little black leather outfit. Those Harley riders just crack me up. Mild mannered store clerk during the week and an extra in a Gimp porn movie on the weekends. Silly bastards.

      When you grow up... maybe you'll learn to open your mind, instead of your mouth. I don't own a goldwing, however, I would definitely have one before any HD. That being said, I like HD as well. Right now, there's only one horse in my garage, so it's got to be a Sport Touring bike.

    • @sciencemilitia1853
      @sciencemilitia1853 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      bicdaddy I like all motorcycles and am very open to all of them. I LOVE the old goldwings. However, the DCT new goldwing is not a motorcycle. It is a minivan. Its not a motorcycle. Thats why I dislike it.

    • @bicdaddy
      @bicdaddy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Science Militia1 obviously your opinion is just that, and I’m sure you aren’t alone in the thought process here. Personally, innovation is a great thing, and for Honda to be on the forefront of it, is really great. The goldwing has always been an amazing comfort cruiser... and more amenities just makes it that much more appealing. The DCT can also be fitted with a shifter (for an optional $5-600) for those that want that old school feeling. As with anything new and innovative, just give it time. It’ll either grow on riders and take off with other manufacturers, or it’ll stay exclusive to the HGW.

  • @sciencemilitia1853
    @sciencemilitia1853 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The real question: Is the gold wing a motorcycle that is trying to become a minivan? Or is the goldwing actually just a minivan that is trying to become a motorcycle? Its like a transgender girl. You never know if theyre born a girl or if theyre tryna become one. You just know its ugly and you dont want the public to know you ride it.

  • @n4zou

    Why are all factory built touring bikes so massive? Back in 1983 I purchased a Honda GL500 Silverwing, and enjoyed it a lot. I could have purchased a GoldWing but the size of them did not appeal to me. They are even larger today. Back a few years ago I wanted a similar bike to my old Silverwing that I rode until I wore it out. I found a very low milage Honda VLX600 and fitted it with 70's era Vetter Windjammer 4 Fairing, Vetter Hard Saddlebags, and Vetter Trunk. I love it! If anyone built anything similar I would buy one but the trend is to build them ever larger. One would think that the popularity of small bikes like the Honda Grom and Kawasaki Z125 would clue them into realizing the move to smaller bikes instead of two wheel open cars.

      I've toured on a GPZ 750, VX800, GS1000G, and now a BMW 850r. The middleweights are underrated. If I wanted a Goldwing, I'd buy a used Civic and be even more comfortable.

    • @KurNorock
      @KurNorock 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try actually riding one instead of dismissing it based on looks and preconceived biases.
      It is that big for a several reasons.
      1. It is designed for maximum comfort for two people. Not just for a driver and a passenger crammed onto whatever room is left on the back. That takes space.
      2. The engine is massive and requires space. Why would you compare a 750 to an 1800 and complain about size?
      3. Cargo. Cargo for days. These are meant to take two people across the country or around the world and keep all the cargo safe and dry while doing so. Again, that requires space.
      4. Performance. Ride a goldwing. Sure it may be 900 pounds, but I promise you it doesn't feel like it. It handles easier than my xr650l and is extremely stable in corners and confidence inspiring. It just feels like a much lighter bike while you are on the road. You almost can't believe how light it feels at first. That's because that huge engine sits very low, which requires space. Also, the wheel base plays a big role is the amazing handling and stability as well.
      5. Try one. All your questions will be answered by the ride.

You need a big strong powerful comfortable bike. It doesn't mean you can't have other bikes to blast round on. All bikes have limitations...........

    I don't get it. My 96 Goldwing has cruise control! Anyway, Honda revolutionized motorcycles by making everything "built in", not bolted, clamped on or zip tied like a Harley Davidson. Both are great bikes so don't get me wrong. The '18 and newer Goldwing has been seriously updated with the dct but, still no platforms for the driver. The trunks are smaller and trying to put gas in it is a pain. Keeping my '96 Goldwing.
