At our koiforum we also had a topic about UV light on or off. Recent scientific studies show that UV is also usefull to decrease the bacterial level/ pressure, so that's why some of us never shut down the UV light.

the EA pond balls dont dissolve, but i believe the oase ones do. i now use the gel when i clean the nexus instead as i still got little balls in the nexus from two years go
Hiya, I've stopped spending on additive bacteria now my filters seem to be upto speed. I tried leaving it last year and this and found no issues with and Ammonia or Nitrite. I'm going to try again in spring just to see if I get the same result..🤔🤔😉👍

Hiya Johnny, I brought the Heron like that after a real one popped into my garden a few years ago and not seen one since. No idea if the fake Heron has anything to do with that though. I saw your vid explaining your conversation with the Dr.... and same ideas of feeding to demand. I tried it last year and no issues so can't knock it till you've tried it.. 😉👍

In my experience, polycarbonate normally has only one side being UV-protected. It normally says on protective plastic cover "this side up".
I write in permanent marker "up" on that side so when you peel it off, you've still got a clue what way round it should go.
Really good point. I think the sheet I got from the the hardware shop had a sticker on it which is facing up on my covers. However the donated sheed didn't, so no idea if its the right way up if it needs to be..🤔😉👍

Good video Andy. Shame to have to wrap the pond up for winter but spring is gonna be here before we know it, as we are passed the shortest day already. I did notice a ghostly presence in your garden too but not as scarey this time 😄

Why put clay in pond ? I put mine into last bay before return so it passes through the pipes to give it better cleaner passes into pond ^ also I out a 25 watt fish tank heater in my last filter box also on timer that comes on over night in winter Dec to Jan 3 hours a night to keep my pipes and water return running free ?

Hiya, thanks for that. Glad you enjoyed the video.. I added some FOK a couple of weeks ago and that will be it until next year now. Yeah I still use the wood burner but it doesn't have much effect with the pond as I've tried many things in the past..🤔😉👍

The aqpuasource wheatgerm is better its all wlinter food canfeed done to 5d although I go to 3 if fish want it
Never a better example of fail to prepare,prepare to fail and you definitely have it down. Be of the same mind when it comes to preparation for winter. Once the water drops to 10 degrees I cover and clean and prep like yourself. Have used a floating heater for a lomg time now amd have found ot great, to stop the water temps getting to low. Eventually will get an airsource one,but for now its doing what i amd more importantly the koi need.

Andy ,when do you stop feeding your fish for the winter ?
Hiya, As I said in the video I now feed my koi with Aqua source all season wheat germ to demand as its designed to be fed down to 8 degrees C. If the fish are at the window, I feed if they aren't I don't... I let them decide but they only have 5 mins to feed before its removed... Hope this helps.. 👍😉

The flotation heater are great for grow on tanks mine was 300w they are only fish tank heaters in side can swap ,
I'm using Aquasource Ultimate all Seasons, as it's rated down to 8C. The pond is 11C at the moment, and they are still pigging it.

Zzs was definitely the best mate. But would you not do better switching the air off in the fillter and leaving it on the pond to help with degassing.
Hiya, I believe the pond will gas off naturally with or without the air in the pond. There's next to no waste at the bottom of my pond but you can see the tiny gas bubbles on the sides of the pond.. 😉👍
@KoiPondLifestyle yes I agree with that but the air would stop the pond from freezing as well don't you think and you'd not need a heater.

If you remember I gave up koi keeping after losing so many fish worth probably thousands but I don't put a cost on koi because they are the fish I want to look at..well cut a long story short just moved into another property well 8 weeks ago..and now started thinking 😂..but if I do it's going to be indoors..but not told the misses yet 😂

not sure about the floating heater. All I use is polycarb sheets. They sit on some 2x1 pieces of wood to allow for the gas to escape and oxygen in and I use bricks on the corners to hold it down and an 8' piece of wood down the middle..lovely jubbly. Last year when the temp dropped thru the floor my pond was still at about 4c ( fortunately ). Will be doing your trick with the air..12hr on and 12hr off. I have the same skimmer..its a brilliant little piece of kit..yours is noisy tho. Mine is dead silent. Last job for me is cleaning out the pressure filter..hopefully in the next week or so. Have you put your covers on permanently now ?? ZZZZ's...lol
Thanks for that. I'm sure I won't be using any floating heaters unless It's an emergency.. 😉 Yeah kept the cover on as planned for around this time of year anyway. Not using the window cover yet, only IF we get a big freeze..🥶😉👍
