He does the ghost noises like we do, but you ARE suppose to only talk to the players with knocks. The best worse part of this game is when the players talk themselves out of the right answer, and you can't react, but in your head you are like "AAAAAAAAAAUUUUGGGGGHHHHH"
They do this correctly (and painfully!) in the Shut Up & Sit Down LP of Mysterium. Which is an excellent playthrough, anyone who liked this should definitely watch that.
Technically, you don't need to knock. My rulebook mentions knocking as a way to make it more fun, but it is not mentioned as a requirement. You are supposed to give a simple yes or no.

This game is all about knowing your players and the luck of your vision cards as the ghost. As the ghost, I prefer to use the "two knocks for yes, one knock for no" method for letting players know how they guessed. It adds greatly to the whole "medium" idea.
Laura Bailey should get some sort of lifetime Achievement Award from this channel. Every video she is in, she steals the show by being so invested and expressive. Bravo!

William Dear Yes, once you complete your person/place/thing, you get a clairvoyance point for each round that remains. Laura should have gotten 3 points. Also, you can continue to make side bets with your tokens even if you're eone. And yes, there is to be no discussion between players for the final vision.
I'll make a comment in favor of Wil and his team. Mysterium was not released in N. America until early 2016. Before that point, Mysterium appeared only as a simpler Polish/Ukrainian board gane. While traveling, someone found the game and thought it would be an interesting port to other countries, and thus Mysterium was born. THAT BEING SAID, let's be real. They probably weren't supposed to talk during the final round, but they started talking before Wil got to them. So, they made a clever reference to the Polish original rules, which are totally real and intentional and not at all a mistake.
I love the fact that somehow, in a Polish game created by Polish designers in Polish, the English language version of the rulebook is still considered the 'true' rulebook by people on TH-cam. >.
GwresYnKernow - I think this is a misunderstanding. I don't believe the Polish rulebook actually has this rule. I believe they made up the rule while referencing the Ukrainian / Polish origin as an internal joke that they know they won't be able to hide their mistake from the internet. It's a stretch, but it's in line with Wil's thinking.
This video illustrates perfectly how the psychics' chances depend on the ghost's cards and how hard it is for the ghost to judge how the psychics will interpret the cards, especially if there are conflicting messages, like the three red cards with red bits. Mysterium is still one of my favourite games, has high quality components and beautiful art and is really well priced.
I've always loved playing this game, and Laura Bailey's always a good time. But I was looking forward to seeing the tension as Wil knocked on the table for "yes" and "no", it's one of my favourite parts of the game! Oh well, I guess the weird ghosty noise is fine...
Will you totally did it wrong on the final clues... you have to put the 3 cards on the table and they choose randomly which they get to see as they get to see the cards.
Probably not, but if the books one didn't come up till last.... and the others voted for something else, only the one person who saw the books might have gotten it. Might have changed things since the "majority vote" is the one the group has to choose. Also, technically, you are not allowed to "talk" about the interpretation of the final 3 cards, that is supposed to be silent. Still, house rules and fun :)
The rules don't say this at all. They are placed on the table in random order, but the illustrations specifically show them being revealed in left-to-right order, not randomly. So assuming he is revealing the cards in random order, it should be the same effect.
Watched this one with my family. We all love Mysterium, but I really think this episode might be the best of the season. Really great and funny stuff. Can't wait for more episodes and more seasons!

OMG, Wil, I just fell in love with this intro. It is SOOOOO COOL to hear you tell it as it is about all of that Ghost Hunting, Tarot Card, etc. stuff. If you were here right now, I would hug you.
Just for giggles, incorporating this entire game into a little oneshot or rpg campaign of investigators is a ton of fun. Run your inner party interactions, indulge in the scene, and you also have a great core mechanic and complete gaming experience baked right in the middle there.
I picked this game up two or three weeks ago for a friend's lake party. It is now easily one of my favorite games, and also marks the best experience I've ever had introduction people to a new game. We had a full seven player game and everybody was immediately sucked into the atmosphere and mechanics. I was the ghost and I'm proud to say that group got it right as well. One thing: you HAVE to have the right group for this. It helps if they know whomever is playing the ghost, but it's even more important that they're capable of thinking in some unusual ways.
Based on the English rulebook 3 things were done incorrectly: 1) The ghost deals out cards face UP and discussion begins immediately. The timer is flipped on the last set of cards being dealt. 2) In the final phase the ghost picks 3 cards, one each for person/place/thing and then these are shuffled and revealed one at a time at random based on how the mediums did. This mitigates "killer" cards like the book card was. 3) Mediums don't get to talk in the final phase. This would probably not be as good for video format. Apparently the polish rules let them? Missing #2 and #3 makes the game substantially easier. #1 makes it harder. Hard to say the net effect.
Oh, a 4th, actually makes the game harder as well. 4) When you guess your last card you get clairvoyance points equal to the number of rounds remaining. This prevents people from wanting to drag out the game to use guess tokens. Laura +3, David +2, Shannon +1. So many mistakes :(.
I thought that rule was the "Bonus Point" rule, and that the quicker you complete your set, the more likely you'll be able to see the third card in the final round by USING the Guess Tokens to improve upon your final score. Or would that break the game with the Polish rules in play?
You still use guess tokens after you make your set, yes. But you get bonus points for making your set early. It's on page 10 under "If a psychic has just obtained his three psychic cards": "On the clairvoyancy track, he moves his marker forward one space for each hour remaining on the clock." Rules are posted on BGG if anyone wants to read for themselves.
I agree the silly voices really detracted from the game setting to me which is a huge part of this game. Also some of those rules they missed really seems to break the game as it gives the ghost more options in the end the players less chances to see all three cards and gives him a powerbomb card like the library which normally only has a 33% chance popping first. The only one i see as fair is the ghost dealing face down ive seen a lot of house games use that and IMHO its the one thing that makes for more suspense and a better video. Also #3 as well only for video purposes
If you're thinking of playing this game and you're going to play the role of ghost then you'll want to break out the game a half hour-hour before everyone comes over so you can set it up, pick the people/places/things and determine what clue/s you're going to hand out because this game has one major problem and that is wait time (on the ghost).
Hard disagree on the wait time thing. I'm often the ghost when playing with my family and usually I'm through getting my vision cards ready for next round by the time the investigators are ready to guess. This helps with meta gaming/poker face too as the ghost is half distracted handling the cards than reacting to the deductions.
I just got into this channel and I find Laura attractive in a nerdy type way. This is when she isn't wearing the glasses, when she wears them she looks mad older and I get bored.
I've heard mixed reviews about Mysterium! After watching it played here, seems like a bit of fun and has quite a bit of replay ability. Also, lot of critter love for Laura, but have to say am absolutely smitten with Shannon.

Will started talking about how he would haunt you if you meta gamed until you died. And then he would still haunt you. That statement brought up a weird point. If a ghost killed someone in a movie or caused their death wouldn't the person who died turn into a ghost. If so That would be really akward for the original ghost.

The rules don't say this at all. They are placed on the table in random order, but the illustrations specifically show them being revealed in left-to-right order, not randomly. So assuming he is revealing the cards in random order, it should be the same effect.
Correct, just from the editing it appears that Will chose which card to reveal first, instead of randomly placing them down to them be revealed.

Watched this one with my family. We all love Mysterium, but I really think this episode might be the best of the season. Really great and funny stuff. Can't wait for more episodes and more seasons!

OMG, Wil, I just fell in love with this intro. It is SOOOOO COOL to hear you tell it as it is about all of that Ghost Hunting, Tarot Card, etc. stuff. If you were here right now, I would hug you.
Just for giggles, incorporating this entire game into a little oneshot or rpg campaign of investigators is a ton of fun. Run your inner party interactions, indulge in the scene, and you also have a great core mechanic and complete gaming experience baked right in the middle there.

I picked this game up two or three weeks ago for a friend's lake party. It is now easily one of my favorite games, and also marks the best experience I've ever had introduction people to a new game. We had a full seven player game and everybody was immediately sucked into the atmosphere and mechanics. I was the ghost and I'm proud to say that group got it right as well. One thing: you HAVE to have the right group for this. It helps if they know whomever is playing the ghost, but it's even more important that they're capable of thinking in some unusual ways.

Laura Bailey has the coolest damn voice.
Based on the English rulebook 3 things were done incorrectly: 1) The ghost deals out cards face UP and discussion begins immediately. The timer is flipped on the last set of cards being dealt. 2) In the final phase the ghost picks 3 cards, one each for person/place/thing and then these are shuffled and revealed one at a time at random based on how the mediums did. This mitigates "killer" cards like the book card was. 3) Mediums don't get to talk in the final phase. This would probably not be as good for video format. Apparently the polish rules let them? Missing #2 and #3 makes the game substantially easier. #1 makes it harder. Hard to say the net effect.
Oh, a 4th, actually makes the game harder as well. 4) When you guess your last card you get clairvoyance points equal to the number of rounds remaining. This prevents people from wanting to drag out the game to use guess tokens. Laura +3, David +2, Shannon +1. So many mistakes :(.
I thought that rule was the "Bonus Point" rule, and that the quicker you complete your set, the more likely you'll be able to see the third card in the final round by USING the Guess Tokens to improve upon your final score. Or would that break the game with the Polish rules in play?
You still use guess tokens after you make your set, yes. But you get bonus points for making your set early. It's on page 10 under "If a psychic has just obtained his three psychic cards": "On the clairvoyancy track, he moves his marker forward one space for each hour remaining on the clock." Rules are posted on BGG if anyone wants to read for themselves.
I agree the silly voices really detracted from the game setting to me which is a huge part of this game. Also some of those rules they missed really seems to break the game as it gives the ghost more options in the end the players less chances to see all three cards and gives him a powerbomb card like the library which normally only has a 33% chance popping first. The only one i see as fair is the ghost dealing face down ive seen a lot of house games use that and IMHO its the one thing that makes for more suspense and a better video. Also #3 as well only for video purposes

If you're thinking of playing this game and you're going to play the role of ghost then you'll want to break out the game a half hour-hour before everyone comes over so you can set it up, pick the people/places/things and determine what clue/s you're going to hand out because this game has one major problem and that is wait time (on the ghost).
It is good to set up early as the ghost because basically you are playing the GM position.
Hard disagree on the wait time thing. I'm often the ghost when playing with my family and usually I'm through getting my vision cards ready for next round by the time the investigators are ready to guess. This helps with meta gaming/poker face too as the ghost is half distracted handling the cards than reacting to the deductions.

I've heard mixed reviews about Mysterium! After watching it played here, seems like a bit of fun and has quite a bit of replay ability. Also, lot of critter love for Laura, but have to say am absolutely smitten with Shannon.

Well known only in those circles of niche interests. The only thing I care about from any of those is voice acting, so Laura's the only one I know. But, no, you just smack ppl down by adding that last little burn on the end ... did being a snob make you feel better? Do you feel more superior? Must need that to balance out the inadequacy of lacking empathy or basic deductive skills.

Will started talking about how he would haunt you if you meta gamed until you died. And then he would still haunt you. That statement brought up a weird point. If a ghost killed someone in a movie or caused their death wouldn't the person who died turn into a ghost. If so That would be really akward for the original ghost.
@Warren Brooks kind of hard for Wil to haunt anyone since he doesn't believe in ghosts.

Played this game with my Sunday Night's crew - so confusing yet brilliant
