- Our little chameleon friend is back with a new look, and a new adventure. Does Chameleon Twist 2 take the great ideas of the first game and actually do somethin kinda neat with it?

Pretty much all of my N64 games have Blockbuster stickers on them. I think a store was shutting down where we lived, and my Mom just bought most of what they were trying to get rid of for me.
Pikasprey Yellow that's nice and sad.
Sad :( cause the store shut down,
But nice cause she probably got them probably many games for pretty cheap :D
That's sweet.
I have one rental game I got from eBay but they didn't put anything on the cart, only one sticker on the side of the box and I don't remember if it's from Blockbuster or some other chain.
Yo! one of my favourite TH-camrs watches one of my favourite TH-camrs hahaha
Pretty cool mom
“Chameleon Twist 2? Chameleon Piss Poo!”
Really glad Nitro Rad’s keeping up with those Game Dude references.
Game Dude, brought to you by Video Site™.
Mr. Pokirby
He was specifically referencing Game Dude’s own review of the Chameleon Twist Duology. Check out the video here for proof:
th-cam.com/video/BaktdeTE1ng/w-d-xo.html
@@ThePreciseClimber game dude was an actual game reviewer back in the day. He was fairly popular in cannada, but now and the day is known for how he creepily stocked and obsessed over his X-girlfriend.
@@MxPokirby I mean those were exact quotes from the Game Dude's classic Chameleon Twist videos.
@@jaded151 Wait, he stocked her? In what Isle?
I think you misunderstood the powerups .
the X2 and X3 items don't increase your capacity, they multiply what you lick up.
For example with X3 you catch 2 enemies, you spit out 6.
As for the big head powerup, it makes your shots bigger.
I do find it amusing how when he's talking about the X3 power up, we actually see it at work. He eats one enemy, spits out three.
The reason none of the games did the "chameleon blending into their environment" is because chameleons don't actually do that. They have a natural colour that blends them into their habitats (like squirrels or tigers) and change their skin colour based on a number of factors. But we know for fact that they do not have cloaking abilities like say a mimic octopus. It's just one of those pop-biology things like lemmings being suicidal or ostriches burying their heads in the ground that just doesn't happen.
Yay!
The reality presented to me by fiction has been shattered!!
@@Hi_Just_Fred at least you don’t have to worry about suicidal lemmings.
I think the reason they didn’t do it isn’t because it’s non realistic but rather they either didn’t think of it or couldn’t make it work.
I know chameleons change colour when they're randy
@@gothnerd887 only chameleons named Randy?
You're the most underrated TH-camr I know. Doing all this stuff that no one else really tackles, you've given me hours of entertainment. I'll be watching you still when you reach 500k, which you will if you keep it up, and go even further beyond.
Absolutely love your reviews mate honestly when I watch your videos I feel like I am back in the 90’s. These platformers the old ones use to be everything back in the day.
SkaiXMask and they r good 2 fall asleep 2

Oh no! You're holding the N64 controller but it doesn't have a memory pak! My immersion is ruined!
I think the first game said it supported the rumble pack when he was skipping through the opening menu. Must have really sucked to take them in and out
Actually, Chameleons don't use their ability to change color to blend in, they use it to show mood, health, and communicate, but they don't actually use it to blend in. Would be cool if they used it as a sort of health bar though.
i love how you're like "please guys put batteries in the cartridge" 21 years later
He's not wrong, though. :P
Make sure you don't put stickers on your cartridge labels.
chameleons don't change color to blend in, they change on their mood.
Who cares?
I actually prefer the old model's better than the new ones. Just because a thing is more realistic doesn't make it cuter.
he was just a fun lil man in the first one
I think everyone prefers the original look :D
@@TheJege12 the person above you just said they prefer neither

If I wasn't already subscribed to you, that segment about the Japan Supply System logo would have done it for me. You've got a really unique and charming style of commentary and I really love it.
Well to be fair chameleons don’t change colors to blend in with the environment. They just change depending on their mood.
Sure, but it’s such a common trait of chameleons in fiction that it feels weird to not have it.
Chameleons don't change color to blend in, not at all. Some octopi do, but for chameleons it's mood related. They're like living mood rings.
However! That could be a great game concept. You are a chameleon in an unknown world and something wants to murder you, so you must cleverly manipulate your own mood so that you can blend in and avoid detection. Maybe you must explore the environment and observe things that put you in specific moods?
1:23 lol the Oh Oh Cartridge from the Garanikor creepy paste video
Starkiller926 Oh My childhood there
Wut
make a third game where you play as a licker from RE
All the X goin give it to ya memes. But where my lickers at?
1:24 AN EARTHBOUND CART!?! That should be on display!
TFW you casually have a priceless SNES gem tossed in your dresser drawer lmao
It's probably a repro
Unfortunately, it's just a bootleg. Wish I had a real one!
Nitro Rad Well, that explains why it’s tucked away. I got EarthBound on the Wii U VC. But I got one of those English Mother 3 carts.
@@NitroRad sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do. I had to get a bootleg cart of Michael Jackson's Moonwalker.
We have a challenge to SunSoft: in Chameleon Twist 3, create a storyline in which Davy gets a swollen tongue. Imagine the drama of a vulnerable Davy The Chameleon, still persisting in his fantastical adventures, despite his infection. It needs to be in good taste (no pun intended), but we guarantee the Gaming world would be shocked, stunned and moved in the efforts to make Davy’s character more meaningful.
We love Davy, but it’s time the Gaming Industry had a big shock for a change.
Gaming in the Clinton Years
If there isn't voice acting in Chameleon Twist 3, I'm committing suicide. I hate text.

Chameleon Twist 2 is truly perfect. If you do not get this new generation of Chameleon Twist madness, then you are stupid! I know, that’s insulting, but that’s also true.
Get Retsupurae on the line they need to come back since there is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much bad gaming going all around. Heck, I would like to make it official that if Slowbeef and Diabetus come back, then that means I can mock bad gamers again very easily. That would make me happier (JimmyWhetzel is on my list of bad gamers).
JojoMonReturns91
Don’t even get me started on that Jimmy Whetzel twat; his reviews on the 3D Sonic games and the Yokai Watch Duology were especially awful to sit through, but if he’s done anything else after those reviews to the same poor standards, then I wouldn’t know about them.
If I were you, I’d also suggest putting the likes of Arin Hanson (AKA Egoraptor), IGN, Kotaku, Angry Joe, MovieBob, Jim Sterling and Snoman Gaming on that list of Bad Gamers, as-well.
This was a game me and my brother sometimes rented from Blockbuster as kids. I remember thinking it was really cool, but couldn’t wrap my head around it and never got past like, the second level lol
I feel ya I used to do the same with my cousin ah. The good ol days
5:25
Rayman 2 really was amazing looking graphically for the time. Like showing Chameleon and Rayman back to back like that you almost wouldn't believe they are not only on the same console but came out the same year.
I was really happy you continued with the game dude references
Continuity error at 8:34. The controller does not have the memory card pack in the back of it.
Local TH-camr gets 25 years in prison due to continuity error
oops
Oh my God, I’ve been looking for this game forever!
I have the Vegas memories of playing it when I was really really little
That Chameleon's face is going to give me nightmares.
But it still is a shame that we won't get a Chameleon Twist 3.
The games are so unique with their gameplay mechanics that I figure someone will eventually try to reboot it. However, even if they greatly improved on everything these games did, it will probably be a really tough sell. Cartoony platformers are usually not popular anymore outside of Mario, Sonic, and remakes of older classics that sell great only because of nostalgia.
I've used this channel to find obscure platformer games to play and your input on the games really communicates what these games are about.
I loved this game growing up. And even as an adult, despite the short length and overall lack of difficulty, I still really enjoy it. mostly for the super unique tongue mechanics.
This is one of my favorite underrated games, I was even the first person to speedrun it seriously, and I agree with most of the video author's complaints. In no way is this a perfect game, however I do think this is an easy-to-recommend game for fans of the N64. It's surprisingly fun, fun to look at, and has a nice soundtrack. It's a perfect playthrough when you've been exhausted by harder games on the system or are just looking for another N64 platformer to play. It's just a nice, short, casual game that will make you smile.
Maybe someday a developer will realize the potential Chameleon Twist had.

...Great region locking implementation Nintendo...
Is there a reason for region locking?
@@Hi_Just_Fred To prevent fun.
Jokes on you, I laughed at Chameleon Piss Poo. 😎
@@DavidDumbedDown The Game Dude, aka the guy who loves to nitpick over petty little shit that would be common sense to other gamers, and claims he's 'inspired' by AVGN but in reality he's more of a ripoff than he is inspired.
Those flying heads in 8:10... they look totaly like red Angry Birds.... in 1998 O_O
I was just thinking that
That's distressing.
3:40 "his model vanishes for one frame..?? idk why"
Saved ya all time, comments
It's bizarre to see that blob character from the first game actually look like a chameleon in the second game.
Man your videos are great, you really pull the nostalgia strings for me, these games were major rentals for me when I was a kid.
Wow, they made a sequel? What a *TWIST?* I'll see myself out
That was bad. Just bad. Like, it's bad in a awful way.
I applaud you taking this one for the team Westy.
Please drive home safely.
Another game kinda based on grappling hook gameplay is Ristar, one of my all time favorite games and fighting for the position of my all-time favorite platformer. It's more swinging and headbutting based then grappling, but damn if those vertical bars don't remind me of Ristar's moves.
P.S. Really glad there was a comment on that "High Voltage Screaming Action" thing. My Life in Gaming covered these games and Try had a great live action bit with it.
Yeah, the High Voltage Screaming Action was a reference to a trend from Japan at the time, however it somehow made it into the North American release.
There is so much.
God damn waiting.
In Chameleon Twist 2.
So you're telling me that you have a grappling hookshot and a parachute?
...Just Cause?
Honestly it makes sense for them to not do that because in real life chameleons really only use their color changing ability to show their mood.
*"Hey, the logo animation looks better this time!"*
Yeah, they made the last frame connect back to the still image more smoothly!
*"They made the first frame 6 degrees less tilted!"*
..What?
I played Chameleon Twist 2 first as a kid. We only rented the first one. There's soooo much nostalgia in this game for me.
NitroRad is probably my favorite reviewer. I found him at the end of last year, and I binged watched his videos, now I have to wait for new ones. Keep bringing those videos man. I love em!
his model vanishes for one frame..?? idk why
I usually don't stop to look at that ninja texts but with you it's different. You're the best youtuber, man.
Oh hey, how about that?
They actually look like chameleons this time.
Though it's still a shame they don't quite get the charmingly goofy eyes of real chameleons right.
"Remember when those early avgn rip offs would say stuff like that and expect people to find it funny?"
Little did you know that a little podcast called "cumtown" would reinvent that wheel.
I see that flex with that earthbound cart.
I was thinking that too haha
3:39
"His model vanishes for one frame...?? idk why"
“None of these games did that” but Yooka Laylee did a ton of Chameleon powers. Except the tongue pole vault. So, almost works.
Hm, yes - Slurp Style was a thing. Eat a fire, gain fire abilities. Eat a steel ball, resist wind currents.
1:23 LMAO that low key Earthbound cart just hanging out😂
I randomly thought of this game today... It reminded me of my dad... he pulled a dad move and rented a random game and brought it home for my brother and I so we forced ourselves to enjoy it out of respect... so strange that you uploaded this 3 days ago... never heard of your channel but glad I found it... keep up the great work!
Imagine this if you will: A game bred between Chameleon Twist and the original Sly Cooper. A game with mild stealth elements, but predominantly a platformer. You have all the tools of the Chameleon Twist games at your disposal, but in addition to a button that when pressed gives you access to a color wheel of six colors. These allow you to change your color, and when standing on a floor or near a wall of comparable color, you become invisible. From there, you have to MGS your way through levels, licking up weak enemies and using them to take out stronger enemies, while using stealth to avoid them when you don't have the tools to take them head-on.
I have such nostalgia for this game. I had a blast as a kid playing this never able to save.
The power up x3 turns every enemy you eat into a 3 you spit back. Big head turns enemies you eat into huge enemies when you spit them back. Loved using the tougne as a sheild around me in some enemy encounters to spit back so many enemies at once.
Loved your review and all your content. Thank you
Maybe I played the first game, but I never knew there was a sequel
01:07
I just love that inside joke, inside that joke
Laught so hard at that Metal gear joke. The gameplay looks really interesting. Has a lot of potential.
3:00 Damn, never would have thought of that
13:41 I noticed that for a frame, it went black. I had to slow it down to see if he snuck in some kind of Easter Egg. Part of me wonders if originally, a picture of Alexander Badr-a.k.a. The Game Dude (and you know what picture I’m talking about: that creepy smile he gave in his Donkey-Kong review) was going to originally be in the video; but at the last minute, James himself declined for fear of bashing a fellow Canadian (never mind the fact that he ran away to Mexico and eventually took to China)?
Oh yesss Silver Grapple gets mentioned at the end! Glad to see you still trying to make it relevant. Great gameplay AND music it has.
@Nitro Rad
Chameleons don't change their color to match their surroundings, they do that involuntarily in response to external stimuli such as temperature & the proximity of potentially dangerous or delicious animals, if anything the color changes should have been employed as a health monitor, though that would necessitate additional accessories to define the characters apart from one another.
1:15 minor film cut
Otherwise, great review as always.
oh my lord how did i let that slip through auuugggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Nitro Rad it’s alright, I’ve made many mistakes in my youtube career.
I just realized chameleons don't change colour depending on their environment, thats what dogs do.
This was the first 3d game I ever played as a kid, I loved it so much
This game begs for a good rom hack. All the mechanics of a fantastic platformer are there. The multiplyer powerup makes you fire more projectiles than you ate. Very useful in the boss fights.
Note:
The Japanese version of the first game has more content. Including an ending for beating the boss rush. And a secret boss
11:34 That is the face you make when you just experienced a REAL trip.
I want a reboot of this game. Maybe give it a bit more personality, polish up the level design, but keep similar mechanics. It would be nice.
Wait didn't yooka laylee use grappling move and camouflage move in the game
I guess Y-L was secretly Chameleon Twist 3...
@@ThePreciseClimber That would make it secretly a threequel of Chameleon Twist AND Banjo-Kazooie.
1:22 I love how you kept the UH OH cartridge in your drawer.
1:07 I laughed way harder on this than I should have
Wait, this game has a sequel?
Well that's something I didn't know
(Also you bought the American AND Japanese copy of the game?)
I wish he played the Japanese version for this video.
@@blackheartzerotheundergrou3225 SAME!
YOOKA LAYLEE
That's all I have to say
Chameleon Piss Poo is your funniest line yet
CT2 was a good childhood memory for me. I enjoyed it. Such a different game
The big-head mode makes what you spitout slightly larger.
I wanna play C. Twist 1 & 2 now ^-^. Man, i love n64 era looking games. And hey that Kyle Hyde poster is tight, and then when that Hotel Dusk music kicked in, wow! Awesome video all the way.
Thanks for the review, man! I always loved that game when I was a kid, but seeing it in someone else's point of view, it definitely didn't age as well as I thought. Sometimes wearing rose-tinted glasses doesn't always prove your point of "why" you love a game so much, that's why we gotta have reviewers like yourself to point out your stance in an objective manner, so it doesn't seem bias in a way, shape or form.
Also, I can't believe you didn't mention the soundtrack. lol
Always loved the happy go-lucky music the game has. It just makes the game so much more enjoyable to plow through y'know.
"Like blending into the environment...I just realized none of these games did that."
Good news: Neither do real chameleons - that's an octopus thing.
Just in case nobody's ever explained it to you after 3 years, the power up that gives the chameleon a big head also increases the size of your projectiles.
The x3 powerup triples everything eat. Eat 1 enemy, spit out 3.
I remember as a kid the change in art style was the whole reason I never got the second one. And I LOVED the first one.
At 3:00 - I didn't know that. Me and my bro had a NTSC game back in 2001. It was a wrestling game (I forgot what the title is). Back at home (Holland), the cartridge won't fit in. My bro thought it was a waste of money. Now i see this.... I feel sorry for my brother right now.
Aww man dude. That piklopedia music hit me hard! Have you considered ever doing a video on the Pikmin games? Love to hear your thoughts on the series.
Holy shit, you still have that "Uh Oh" cartridge from that creepypasta episode of GARANIKOR! What a nice throw-back.
"None of those games take advantage of what a chameleon can do, like blending into urine"
Funny enough, I actually own Twist 2 but never played Twist 1. Great review by the way.
If I remember right, the big powerup increases the size of enemies that you spit back out, and the 3x multiplier increases the amount of enemies you spit out by 3 times what you take in.
I'm surprised you haven't reviewed any of the Umihara Kawase games. It's THE grappling hook platformer series.
It still makes me glad to see your videos
Did not know it got a sequel. Nice videos, Rad!
I actually played this one when I was a kid! I didn't really remember it at all until I saw your video
If I remember correctly, the X3 makes it so you spit out three times whatever you got with the tongue, and the Big head makes it so you spit out bigger objects.
From what I remember of this game the "big head" power up made your spit attack stronger. Like I think it made whatever you ate larger as you spat it back out to deal more damage.
9:49 That plant enemy looks straight out of Plants Vs. Zombies.
It's so funny to me that you prefer the design of the chameleons in the first game. They actually look like Chameleon's in the second game instead of weird robot things. I couldn't wait for you to review the second game to see your comment on how much better the models look. It's still the N64 so it isn't perfect obviously, but color me surprised that you felt the opposite.
It’s been 2 decades since I’ve played, but pretty sure the x3 powerup meant that if you picked up 1 enemy, you shot 3, or any number of enemies you picked up would be shot x3.
Wow glad I’m still finding N64 games I’ve never played
I'm really pleased to learn that the japanese version of this game kept the original character designs. I remember being super disappointed as a kid when I found out they changed the cute round guys into weird lizard guys. like I know it makes sense but ugh.
When you make references to early AVGN ripoffs it's my favorite thing
I might be a little bias but I actually like that they look more like actual chameleons than whatever the heck those other things are.
okay, so i know i'm late, but i can actually explain the powers in this game. at least the ones you didn't understand. the x2 and x3 powerups multiply the ammount you pick up. pick up 1 thing, spit out 2 or 3 based on your multiplier. pick up 10 spit out 20 or 30... if you're lucky enough to pick one up during a boss fight, it just shreds them with a single salvo...
as far as big goes, it makes your head big, and it makes anything you spit out big too, which also increases damage on bosses.... that's it.
