  • This is the second of two long discussions we had with Michael Oren, former Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Knesset member with responsibility for Gaza, author, and historian. Harry and Oren first discuss the increased pressure for us a cease-fire that Israel anticipates after the session of hostilities ends. From there, they canvass world opinion about Israel and the war and analyze Israel’s apparent position as a villain on both the left and the right. They discuss at some length the importance of Biden’s continuing support for Israel, which Oren describes as singular in his 50-year career.

Some forms of anti-Zionism are forms of antisemitism, but anti-Zionism per se is not a form of antisemitism.

I think an Irishman can be anti-zionist based on the history of Ireland.
But in most cases, it's antisemitism.

Harry Litman should stick to discussing legal issues. There is absolutely no discussion of the historical context beginning with the formation of Israel and the ethnic cleansing of thousands of Palestinians. The fact that Gaza is universally recognised as an open air prison because if the seige of Gaza, that Israel has done nothing to stop settlements in the West Bank (which are in violation of various UN resolutions).
How many innocent lives have to be lost before the Israeli project is complete?

Really good point. Why is no one saying Hamas Surrender? They aren’t saying it but the assumption is that Israel is a government that is subject to being affected by demands, but Hamas is not. In short, people know Hamas is intractable and unreasonable, and they are ok with that. I’m thinking this really is based on anti-semitism.

You think you know what "people" are ok with? Wow, how remarkable.

Extremely thought provoking. I can’t help wondering if this is yet another function of how overpopulation of the planet, causing climate change and mass dislocation, has contributed to this upsurge in hatred. Thank you, Harry.

I appreciate Amb. Oren’s explanation of why a ceasefire before destroying Hamas is dangerous for Israel. But Israel could have collected an international response and set about to do this more judiciously, or at least explained better why they took some of the steps they did, cutting off utilities and bombing before giving civilians a real chance to evacuate.

Evacuate? They have no where to go. No way to get there. No money, no resources. They’ve been forced to live in an open air prison for decades, they can’t evacuate their confines

Nothing but respect for Harry, but the view of Israel put forth here is skewed and blind to any interests but those of Israel.

Complete fail... Harry can't seem to frame a complete, intelligible question to save his life and the guest is an embarrassment.
