    I just started track this year and I just learned the glide. My 4th meet I threw 33'10" and came in 19th place using the glide. Now I watch David all the time now.

    I’ve really enjoyed watching David Storl throw with his glide technique. Also very athletic figure not a fat shot putter at all. He’s a world champion as well. Great thrower. The person explaining the throw in the video understands the glide technique very well.

    Out of curiosity would you say the length of an athletes wingspan (arms reach) have a significant affect as far as an advantage in throwing a farther distance. Also would there be a larger affect on glide with it being more linear and direct? I am 6'2 with a wingspan of 6'9 as a glider and am also wonder if I can get away with doing so (being on the short side). I understand a lot of power comes from the legs but how much force is actually generated with the arms contact off the neck at the end of the throw? Loved the video also love Storl

    Hi there, I'm in the U20 Shot Put, throwing 10.62m.
    Is there any specific things I could do to increase my shot put throw a few more metres?
    Weight training tips? Technique? I'm also a glider by the way.

    • @isaacruddell9942

      Take videos of your throws at practice and later compare them to the model you are chasing, obsess over the small things they are doing with there hips and wrist etc really pick it apart (put the two videos side by side), never start practice without a goal on something you want to fix based off those previous videos (this has helped me tremendously over the years) In the weight room or hell even at home focus on explosiveness, if you aren't getting sore you need to change some things up and find new lifts which there are tons of even from storl that will shock your body. Hope the season is progressing well

    Sir i wanted to know that is there a need to starp a tape around the wrist just as david storl has done

    • @ThrowsCoach
      @ThrowsCoach  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Suman... great question... wrist support is used by almost everyone at higher levels of competition, especially the heavy shot puts for men and women. The taping helps support the stress wrist. So I would recommend taping the wrist or using velcro straps. These are good. amzn.to/2BEi5fV

    Hey I throw the shot put at a junior college and I'm throwing it 13.85m around 45 feet and i want to hit 50 feet. By the end of this year. What do you suggest I do? I have the strength I'm sweating 315 5 times deadlifting 365 5 times and benching 225 5 times.

    • @lilliekennedy1293
      @lilliekennedy1293 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brett Oden shotput is about speed, strength and technique. So just because you have the strength doesn't mean you're automatically you're gonna throw far. Try working on your technique and speed.

      @@lilliekennedy1293 yeah ik I threw 47 feet this last week. I fixed up a lot of my technical stuff and trying to get it down.

    • @isaacruddell9942
      @isaacruddell9942 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome stuff are you a freshman or sophomore? Work on the core Olympic lifts as im sure you have already with emphasis on explosiveness and before every workout session try to find something new so you aren't doing the same things over and over with your body getting used to the stress. Find a model you can base your technique off of and try to understand and break down each small piece of there throw (even compare him to you side by side VISUALIZE!). Take videos of your throws in practice and never start practice without a goal on something you want to fix based off those previous videos. Also numbers on bench and squat can mean very different things based on your height and yes you have a solid amount of strength what but about your explosiveness. If you are always lifting at moderate speed or slowly trying to get the heaviest wight im sure you can find a tremendous increase in distance by changing that focus. Hope some of this general stuff ive picked up can help

      @@isaacruddell9942 that is some very good information that I will take into some consideration! I am a sophomore and I'm 6 feet tall and weigh 270 lbs. I'm very explosive I have a 35 inch vertical. I am working out with a professional football player and his training staff on getting the power movements and the lifts that will benefit me. I've been watching videos of me throw and videos of other professional gliders throw the shot put and I try to pick up on little things they do that will help me. Thank you for your information and helping me out!! It's greatly appreciated!!
