Dane Miller the gentleman narrating the video, owns a gym called Garage Strength outside of Reading Pennsylvania. They specialize in shot and discus training, lifting and technique. My Daughter Ashlyn has been going there for three years now. She is currently a senior in high school and is the number one ranked thrower in the nation. Last month at the Adidas indoor Nationals she took first place with the throw of 49 ft 7 in. She will be attending Nebraska on a full athletic scholarship in September. She's looking to win the State title in Pennsylvania and shot and discus this year. She was obviously born with god-given talent but the techniques and the training that that this gentleman Dan Miller and his staff give a garage strength we're absolutely instrumental and my Daughter achieving the things that she's achieved and the goals she has still to achieve. Dane is a wonderful person, he absolutely loves teaching and mentoring these young adults and he is a genius at teaching technique both form and lifting. If you have a young adult that's a thrower and you're looking to get them some extra training and you don't live in Pennsylvania or the surrounding area he does coach via podcast it's something that if you're child or niece or nephew or whatever is serious about throwing shot put and discus give Dane a call, GarageStrength.com

The only problem with his series is that at least four of them were faults, either at the point of drive (foot comes down on the rim, touching the inside top edge, Rule 186, 14 b - "touches with any part of his body the top or top inside edge of the rim), or as he brings his left foot down at the front of the circle. Even in your presentation, you called one of his board touches, "...just a little bit on top", which is, again, a fault according to Rule 186, 14 c - "touches with any part of his body any part of the stop board other than its inner side excluding its top edge which is considered to be part of the top).
At the Olympic Trials, when he broke (bettered) the World Record, he faulted at the back rim, using it to "push off".
My own experience with US Officials is that they take the attitude that they are doing athletes a favour by not calling events "exactly", according to the rules. And I've known a couple that are anxious to sign a Record form, thinking perhaps that it enhances their position in the sport.

Great analysis ! Would love to see this for every record series.... Would you happen to know what was the best 6 throw series, while wearing a hat, prior to this : )

Why do some throwers put their foot down on the outside of the back of the circle? I thought a thrower could not touch the outside of the circle. Crouser does it more than anyone else. Why is that not caught?

  • @donfilkins298
