  • Can you weave tapestry on a floor loom? Absolutely! My favourite loom right now is my Leclerc Fanny loom. It’s a counterbalance floor loom that has 4 shafts and 6 treadles and a 27” weaving width and I figured, since I have this loom, why not try to weave tapestry on it?

    I haven't tried it myself yet, but Deborah Silver in her split-shed weaving book has put together a way of attaching a cartoon to a floor loom. I'm waiting to finish a scarf project on my floor loom so I can warp on something more creative. Recently started to weave tapestry on a Navajo style loom.

    Thanks for the myriad of tapestry tips. I plan to try this on my Harrisville jack loom.

    Love love love this combination! I am setting up today my hone Tapestry loom and sharing updates from my work loom.
    I am using a nalbinding needle and bobbin at work because I have trouble managing butterflies with fingering weight yarn (doubled) and they are also short lengths leftover warp that are about 10 picks long.
    At home I'm trying to set up my toika siru for tapestry. It is quite an interesting and architectural loom but I'm interested because it has two ergonomic weaving angles and I want the rigid heddle for easier shedding. Will try floor loom tapestry once my new-to-me loom arrives sometime soon!

    How wide is your loom? Love it! I've had an opportunity to purchase a 45-in Fanny.

    Hi, stumbled across your channel while looking at espinners. I started down this rabbit hole with a Bedouin form of ground loom weaving called "Al Sadu". I had heard that this particular form of weaving was on the verge of dying out due to the fact that the women of the Bedouin/Nomadic lifestyle are moving towards college education and into city life. I did not want to see this knowledge lost.
    I then took a deep dive and began hand knotting a Persian carpet . . . OMG what was I thinking!
    It is done in a similar format as tapestry, but instead of using the weft to create the pattern, you add strands of yarn, tied around a pair of warp threads and trimmed to the appreciate length. Afterwards it is topped with a pass of the weft thread and beat with a comb.
    I had to design and create my own loom, it hangs vertically from a stand, which allows me to sit with it at about chest level.
    All of this because I am a member of the "SCA - Society for Creative Anachronism"

    I have tried tapestry on my small rigid heddle loom. I have a 2 lap looms. My dream is to build a rug loom outside from tree branches. I use cotton size 4 and my handspun to make small pieces. I am working up to using a cartoon. I don’t have Instagram. I can barely keep up with youtube!

    I have visited Ortega's Weaving Shop in Chimayo N.M. They do all their weaving on large floor looms set on blocks, this raises the work area up to waist level.

    i am a new weaver I love this on a floor loom,.Do you throw in between a plainweave weft when you put in the tapestry thread to hold it inplace?

    • @sweetgeorgia
      @sweetgeorgia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome! I don’t need to add plain weave weft in because the tapestry yarn is already being applied as plain weave ☺️

    They make weights for that loom, both top and bottom. Supposedly they are useful for rug weaving, too. I have no experience with that.

    Ok. I'm not gonna watch these through email anymore. The comment process is too complicated.
    I do use my floor loom for tapestry. I usually use my 8 per inch. But I am also wanting to try a back strap loom. (The email auto corrected this to jockstrap AS I sent it. 😄)
    To pack your beginning weft so no "rice", why not use a Navajo style beater? They're like a tapestry beater but seem sturdier to me.

      @sweetgeorgia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for commenting here! I’ll do some research and look into the other beater styles… maybe something else will work better ☺️ thanks for watching!!

    I post more spinning pics on IG (@archaicarcane) than weaving and I"m 6 months behind on those pics because life happened. I'm just a very beginner weaver at the moment - about 6 projects in - and working on a Fanny as well. Tapestry on a floor loom is something I was thinking about recently - because I prefer to treadle as well. The other thing I want to try is a warp faced weave because I have a warp I dyed that I really want to highlight. It never ends, does it? Always something new to try.
