during my time in vanuatu i got spooled by what Im pretty sure was a massive gt on my medium setup and was never able to land anything of significant size. had lots of fun with light tackle tho

Looks like it but you can catch these fish on a handline easily so it doesn't really matter, I guess when you are casting big poppers the reel matters more.
