    The great explanation on how Gottlieb drop targets work is the reason I keep coming back and watching your videos. Good stuff Ron, thanks.

    I love it when you show close up how to deal with ornery stepper units. They are the cause of so many issues when they have been ignored and neglected for many years. … Looking forward to seeing exactly what is causing this machine’s current issues.
    Thanks for teaching us Ronnie.

    This takes me back, not only to my misspent, pinball-playing, jukebox-playing youth, but also to a time in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, when I was younger. I used to manufacture printed circuits and I made quite a few replacements for the machines, one type of which is shown at 11:30 on the timeline. A rotary selector PCB, as well as many other types, some silver plated, some gold plated, for low resistance contact. I used to be given dead samples, all of which were beyond redemption and had to be replaced - burnt, chewed up and useless. I had to copy them exactly and make new ones as exact replacements. At the time Rhodesia was under economic sanctions from Britain and we just couldn't get spares.... for anything. So we had to be resourceful and make the parts ourselves. I managed to make them for a fraction of the cost of the imported ones. The ones I made were fibreglass, not the brown, phenolic type shown, much better.

    Awesome video love the gottlieb drop targets. I'm excited to see the time warp pin. Hope you fix it next it's one of my favorite pinball machines. That time frame of machines always has the best art to me. Love solid state machines. Great vid keep up the awesome work 😸

    Great find on that broken coil bracket. I am always amazed that the coils are almost all original. I can't wait to see the goat sign hanging up in the shop or the store front. Thanks for filming Ronnie see on the next video.

    Love your videos Joe. On my Solar City I had a similar issue except the culprit was the coil position adjustment not a broken bracket which was an easier fix. While my issue wasn't the same your keen eye clued me in about the adjustment issue. I had a witness mark on the bracket but the arm was nowhere near it and the coil was bottoming out. After adjustment it works a treat. Too bad the O relay isn't sending a pulse to fire it.

    The 1st ball relay latching properly and it’s switches should be checked. The trough switch shouldn’t advance the player unit until points are scored.

    I really like your channel Ron. Thank you for the educating and entertaining content! I do have a remark on the dielectric grease though: Per definition it should be non condiuctive. So, it might not improve the contacts. But as long it works for the purpose... ;-)

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think about it a little harder Joachim, of course it's non conductive, but yet it works... how could that be? I mean you just saw me use it, and it worked, yet you know better somehow. Everybody always wants to correct me on something because they think they know better, but yet they ignore that they just saw it work.... which means maybe you don't know what you think you know, eh? It's non conductive, but yet it conducts. Think about it a little bit and get back to me when you figure it out.

    • @Joachim123
      @Joachim123 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it is a good thing that the grease is dielectic, since it avoids leaking currents. It greases the contacts moving and somehow does not prevent the contacts connecting correctly. And that's what we want, don't we? By the way I did not want to correct you. Just wanted to say that "dielectric" menans "non conductive". Keep up your good work and good muck with this Gottlieb!

      That is a Student Prince, we've been meaning to fix it for a long time now, it's been in a bunch of videos "we're gonna do this one next" but haven't fixed it yet :) The playfield is really worn on it...

  • @ocsrc

    For a simple game there is a serious problem and it is a mystery. But each step you are fixing parts that need to be fixed, so you are not wasting time. But it is a lot of work and having to order parts and wait is frustrating and time consuming.

    So I have a curious question. More than once in my 60 years of life I've seen several pinball machines for sale and they worked but every time I talked myself out of it. It just seems to me a 30-50 year old machine would always be a broken headache all the time. Is this the case? a lot of mechanical parts going on inside. This is from the eyes/mind of a 43 year mechanic.

    • @markjackson1444
      @markjackson1444 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Once you clean and adjust every switch, relay, and stepper unit in an old em, you can look forward to years of trouble free playing. Occasionally you might have to adjust a switch, change a globe etc But once they are truly clean and adjusted ….they are extremely reliable machines. … They were designed and made to Not Break Down! …get am em, ….you won’t regret it.
