I had a great weekend at ConGregate. Spent some quality time chatting with the amazing Jody Lynn Nye and the eternal Allen Wold. My books sold well, as they tend to do at conventions. I even got some good news on another manuscript I have with a publisher. Fingers crossed.

Anyway, honestly more power to you for not reading Fire & Blood right now. I am also looooving the show and wouldn't want to rob myself of the sheer awe and excitement that all of the jaw-dropping twists and turns bring me!
Also, really appreciate the balance between the gushing and the critique for ODAL, I can definitely see where you are coming from even if I was blind to those little flaws myself. I just eat that series up like popcorn hahah 😛

Always appreciate your honest reviews. You are spot on about Of Blood and Fire. It can get really repetitive to the point of breaking the immersion, at least for me. It doesn’t change as you go further in the series, but with the addition of so many more characters and plots it’s a little easier to get lost in the story.
I am digging the story overall!

The banter about the sound effects/jingle (tingle jingle?) is as integral to the channel as the sound effects/jingles them selves.
I'm torn a bit on whether I want to also see Jacob's reaction over just his voice. He has a way speaking that I find so informative that I can picture it in my head. I think saving it for the normal times he's on camera would keep those as special moments. Either way, I'm sure I will still enjoy it.
Can't wait to see the game play video, it sounds hilarious.
@@christhewritingjester3164 I think he plans on popping his face in but not all the time so maybe best of both worlds 😀. We are gonna see a lot of a you died screen. Not sure if anyone can call it gameplay 😂
@@Talking_Story internalize it as a "You learned" screen? 😊 I haven't played any of those styles of games yet. I have too many other games I haven't gotten to before I try a game known for being insanely difficult lol.

Oh how I look forward to the weekly reader! 😄 Great as always. I've been making my way through the new Godeater book by Rob J Hayes and really enjoying it! And slowly chipping away at Unbound by Michael R. Miller as well. This week I'm moving into a new apartment so not expecting as much reading time as normal, but I will get to set up my booktube recording space so I'm stoked about that!

You guys have already put me onto some good books. I grabbed a couple from the local library sale. I'm almost finished the second book in the Farseer trilogy, and listened to The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. X

I liked how you pointed out Cahill’s repetitive turns of phrasing in book 2. I found that to be the case when I read through OD&L earlier this year. That said, Cahill’s cinematic writing style really knows how to hack my brain 😂. That ability of his definitely carries over to The Exile 😁.
I’ve been finishing up with a fantasy anthology Heroes Wanted and will be diving into The Exile before I return to Franz Werfel’s Star of the Unborn. Afterward, I’ll hopefully get to Robin Hobb’s Assassin quest with my wife before she starts Vet School in August.

Hey guys! Love the Weekly Reader! This week I’ve been reading my 3rd Tad Williams of the year so far, Shadowrise. I’m all in with these characters now, lol. Have to read to the end and see how they make out.

Glad to hear you are taking up gaming again., I just started Sackett Land by Louis L'amour and I love it as my entry into Westerns or frontier stories as L'amor would call them. Wish the new editions were hardcover though instead of paperback, but the cover art is incredible.
I have some recommendations for story-driven games you might like if you haven't played them yet:
Last of us 1 and 2
Uncharted: the Nathan drake collection (1-3), Uncharted 4, Uncharted the lost legacy
Reboot Tomb Raider series: Tombraider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

That evil smile in the beginning! 🤣This week started rough, lots of work and little reading. Also started with the year's first DNF (Eld by Mats Strandberg and Sara Bergmark Elfgren) which is a little disapponting since I liked book 1 (Cirkeln) but book 2 took a turn I didn't like and I really struggled after the halfway point. So I put that one aside (might come back to that later to discuss with a friend) and to lift my spirits read Warriorborn. That did the trick! Jim Butcher hasn't failed for me yet. Really enjoyed it altough I wish I had read it before Olympian affair. After I couldn't help myself to go back and reread some Dresden Files as well.

@@Talking_Story Yes It was precisly what I needed to get my reading mood up again. While I think one should read Warriorborn before OA it was interesting having a bit more information going into this novella.

I should say that the second book in the Southern Reach Trilogy is quite different from the first and third! So I would recommend you don't stop at the second I guess ahah

That is a interesting week. Good luck to Jacob with the moving out. At the moment i read Mistborn 1 (The Final Empire) every morning, before work. Yesterday I aborted the audio book "Infinitum" by Christopher Paolini, after 16-17 hours (the book is 32 hours long). For me the story was way to slow and not interesting enough. But I started another audiobook, "Guards! Guards!" by Terry Pratchett.
I hope Discworld hits better for you.
My week of reads has been kinda crazy. I've been having a very hard time picking what to read after being in a reading slump from March - May and June I was just starting to get back into it. So in the last week I've picked up and tried to read probably a dozen books but I did successfully finish an audio book today and have made it about 15% into That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf by Kimberly Lemming and after that I'll possibly be picking up What Moves the Dead and then moving into Empire of the Vampire, Quicksilver by Callie Hart, or Rise of the Automated Empire: Final Assembly by Mr. Dennis M. Myers (Which I've already read the first 2 chapters of and loved!!).Congrats to your son on this big move I hope this next chapter of his life goes swimmingly and thank you John for having such an amazing and inviting space here on booktube!!

I didn't get much reading done this week but i did read a little bit more of GGK's Last Light of the Sun (about 170 pages left) and David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas (I'm on the 3rd story now and loving it).
I've been reading nothing but standalones of late, and I'm getting the itch to get back to some series I've had on ice for a bit, so I'm thinking its time to get back to Dandelion Dynasty and RotE.
I replayed the original Last of Us for the dozenth time it seems and still loved it

Great video John! I’m terrible at Elden Ring, and it incites much rage in me lol. My first souls-type game was Bloodborne, and I DNFd that game so hard. Literally lol.

This week I finished four books: the first two Southern Reach books, Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa, and Ursula Le Guin's translation/interpretation of the Tao Te Ching. Meanwhile I've been making steady progress on Curse of the Mistwraith, about halfway through now. It just won't let me go. I will be looking at those prints she's selling for sure.
I don't know how people put up with the Souls games; then again, "fast-paced combat" for me is setting the ATB gauge to "active" in Final Fantasy 4-9. I'll try to be there in solidarity on Thursday.

@@Talking_Story I enjoyed it, it's about as natural a follow-up to book 1 as was probably possible. Answers some questions in a way that throws up more questions. But I do get the feeling Annihilation was lightning in a bottle. I'll start book 3 probably later this week.

Hi John. My past week included a five-star read (To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf) and I finally began reading A Game of Thrones by GRRM and am enjoying it far more than I thought I would. Good luck to Jacob for the move.

Oh I really enjoy Darkness and Light and Dayne is probably my second favorite character (Dann is number one) and I can’t wait to see your thoughts.
I ended up reading The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell which was something I was lukewarm on and because I was in a reading slump I had to DNF. I am a big mood reader so I will come back to it when I am in the right mood. I then read Parable of the Sower and… this is a book I think everyone should read but DO not read it on a whim. It is such a powerful book about the importance of change and I know that I need to talk about it when I get my book tube channel running. I then started Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb and it is definitely heavy on my “nostalgia” for other characters but nothing too special. After that I am extremely excited to start The Wickwire watch.
I will be watching that livestream on Tuesday because that is awesome and my full book tube setup is finally done so I am finally getting to record and hopefully upload something tomorrow or the day tomorrow.
Also, I hope Jakob has an absolutely fantastic move and I will be watching you play Elden Ring… hehehehehehehe. I used to play with my dad and every once in a while I still try to play Cuphead with him.
Now that I am done, I hope you have a great time on the livestreams and I will try to be there because I love watching you guys. Now, I will return to my book unhauling.

I have read all four volumes of "Automated Empire" series by Dennis Meyers and I highly recommend these to all SciFy readers. The realistic space battles are on par with Andy Weir's "The Martian." The deaths of main characters will pull at your heart strings. I bought copies for all my friends and family. And they are loving them too. CHECK THEM OUT!

I know some people think it's too derivative but I absolutely love Bound and the Broken, and the way it does classic fantasy with a modern narration. Same reason I love John Gwynne's Faithful and the Fallen. It's become one of my favorite type of fantasy subgenre.
@@dalicieux I am have a very good time and with the expanding of the world and characters book 2 has brought I will say I am all in on this series no matter how thick the books get 😂.

@@Talking_Story I can’t begrudge you that! I really enjoyed it but it was a bit strange it being written as a history. A worthy addition to the world of Westeros. It has made me want to reread ASOIAF instead of the incredibly long list of books on my tbr
As a side note also as you’re enjoying the show the Game of thrones TH-cam channel has some cool 20th minute videos of behind the scenes and interviews. Think the sort of thing you would get included on a DVD special features type thing. Not sure if you like that sort of thing but if it is you should check it out

I doubt you could be worse than me on gaming. You could've played UNO, might've been safer 😂. My reading has been incredibly light this week couple pages of Fire and Blood, so season 2 will definitely be over by the time i get to it. And I ugly cried during last week's episode, it hit my major trigger points, and still don't have a hug so trauma. How I still get through The Boys is honestly beyond me, I hope you enjoyed the farm episode lol. The cave episode was...uncomfortable. But it should go back to gross for you the last episode that aired. Been exhausted lately from work, doubt it'll be much different this week. I should've cleaned, and just don't want to, just stare into the abyss.

@Talking_Story I went around for 2 days with the godzilla theme in my head not knowing what it was from, freaking tune is John Williams level catchy, not being a big godzilla fan, don't think I'd seen any of the movies before.
