I heard this on Endeavour and it has haunted me ever since. Very glad I found it and thank you so much for sharing this exquisite performance with us. Pat
Cristal Baschet takes the concept of a, "one man band," to orchestral heights! I love this passage, and love how it is realized so technically by this Father and Son on these rare instruments; beautiful! Thank you!
It touches the sole..as if the instrumentalist is hitting on the sounds that titillate the nerves..soothing them and sending me to deep trance! While it resembles the sound of Indian instrument called Sarangi, the stretch of tone with sharp end spreads the music across my spine!
@ Roberta L. Jones: I’m looking out for the soundtrack album for ‘Shining Girls’, from Claudia Sarne: a single of the title track is out already...it has a fairytale/menacing sound, & I’d be surprised if the album doesn’t feature the mesmeric sound of this marvellous instrument! 🙏🏽🌹🙏🏻
@@Cristobels-Green-Boots I wasn’t aware of Shining Girls until your post. The soundtrack is great and ties in beautifully with Wendy Carlos’ amazing original soundtrack in places. I’ll have to check out the series. 😊
According to IMDB, it was not in that film. I believe you may be thinking of the film "the Painted Veil" which centers around a cholera outbreak, and DOES feature this piece. His music is used in lots of movies; IMDB shows Satie featured in 231 different movies or TV episodes!
Exodus E its got a similar sound. I also noticed that. Rachel Portman whom composed the music for Chocolat probably was influenced by this. I love the chocolat soundtrack.

You just get the feeling that some of Erik Satie's songs are made for the Cristal Baschet. Wonderfull!

Season 4 game
Exactly the same reason I went looking for this.
Le son totalement envoûtant de cet instrument peu banal se prête à merveille au climat de la Gnossienne n°1 de Satie. C'est vraiment somptueux
merci ! et voici la 3ème !

Such a sophisticated instrument to play and to hear it is so awesome.
This is the best performance I've seen. It's a lovely instrument and even better using 2 of them. Imo

Wonderful!
It looks like this very video was used at the beginning of the Season 4 Episode 1 of Endeavour on PBS in America.
Dan Nichols I noticed that too!
No. It was a woman playing on that episode.
This is revelatory! And Satie is perfect for this.
