    I have an anthology by Mr. Brennan titled The Shapes of Midnight with this story in it. I bought it at a local used book store when I was 10 or so. Almost 50 years later, it's still a favorite of mine.

    I first read this story in an anthology called Monster, Monsters, Monster collected by Helen Hoke I was around 10 years old in 1977 and I had been trying to remember the name of the story ever since. It scared the hell out of me. You make it scarier and I'm an old crud now.

      Holy cow. I remember the Helen Hoke collections. Her collections like "Horrors Horrors Horrors" along wirh the Alfred Hitchcock books like "Haunted Houseful" and "Monster Museum" were constants on my check out queue at my school's library for me and informed a very strange kid.

    Amazing acting, and did not know that the this story idea was stolen for "The Blob", my favorite monster movie along with "The Thing"

      Hi Jordan- The story was originally published in 1938. It's sort of the "missing link" as far as the jump that science fiction took from it's juvenile pulp fiction roots to the "adult" stuff. The ideas have been plundered by such movies as INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS among others. E.

      That's what came to mind when I read the title.

    I read the title too quickly and was surprised to realize half way through that this tale was not in fact the autobiography of a certain former CIA director.
    I looked closer at the artwork above and was surprised to know that the former director wrote under a nom-de-plame.
    (or however you spell it)

    This is quite excellent. It reminds me a lot of Theodore L. Thomas and Kate Wilhelm's "The Clone." Or, rather, "The Clone" reminds me of "Slime." And this "Slime" is certainly better so far than the William Essex novel of the same name.

    the thing was hit by an unknown jolt. the slime shuddered and writhed. liquid oozed from its hideous flesh as a strangeness flowed through the diminishing slime which was becoming hard from inside out. finally all that was left was a shell of a green glassy shape. a frog jumping hit it with its foot and shattered the thing which melted into the bog. the frog caught a fly. the bottle of rye lay on its side empty slowly slowly slowly sinking into the ooze.

    If I might inquire, where does the awesome background image come from?

    • @FrenchEdward06
      @FrenchEdward06  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You might. All the images I use to "tie a bow" (you might say) on my audios are created by me in photo shop. You might say I "Frankenstein them together" from various sources. E.E.F.

      I sometimes refer to my "Day Job" as the "Department of Cranial & Facial Decoration." I'm basically a makeup artist. That sort of compulsion to dress things up and decorate extends to the audios presented here. It probably isn't necessary and I notice a lot of audio narrations on TH-cam don't bother with anything too creative. But I think of these things as plays and I think the listener should receive some sort of Play program I try to make some attempt at coming up with an image that compliments each individual writers story. I must be a bit odd, because I ALWAYS look at the artwork you put up, BEFORE listening to the story! That way I feel it gives more to the story. Thank you for all you do Mr French. Stay safe. All the way from the U.K.

    A reader can make or break a book and this reader has the gift and talent tomake people read books they don't like and that says it all. I know because Iread a book a day. I know how important a reader is. As important as a writerbecause it is the reader that connects directly to the reader. Thank you what a greatreading experience.
