  • Explaining Reiki to Skeptics can be a daunting task because Reiki, fundamentally, is something that is intangible . However...I hope with the points that I cover in this video not only will you be able to explain your Reiki practice to others...but further even the most ardent skeptics will understand what this thing called Reiki is...and perhaps they will even see that they have been practicing Reiki longer then they thought!
    I hope you enjoy this video and that it helps your Reiki practice and the discussion of your Reiki practice to others!
    🙏Be well and In Gassho to all🙏

    Thank you so much for your video!!! I am just starting my Reiki practice and I am on the same page of just explaining it just from Reiki aspect (I still use all the tools I just don’t introduce them to the main stream of people because like you said it can turn others away!!). Again thank you!!

      @@RootsofLifeWow! What an amazing video. I am a practitioner and like you I also like and use the other more “Gu gu” tools but definitely makes more sense to keep Reiki organic and only use them if we know that the person is already into Crystals, sage and other tools. Also this video will help me a lot in explaining what Reiki is in a simple way!

    Thank you for this explanation. My niece is a Reiki master and has worked on me quite a bit over the years. It really helped me when I had cancer and having bad effects from the chemo, immunotherapy and steroids. I'm now in remission (for a year and a half) and I feel Reiki helped with that also.

      Yeah I'm not a reiki master and me waving my hands around my mom also cured her and made her feel amazing. Which means reiki is bs. Its monetizing something which everyone has acsess to. Its a bullshit way to restrict the natural healing powers people have by monetizing and gatekeeping and making it into some special magic thing you have to pay for to be special when it's not that at all. Even my cat can do reiki.

    I so agree with what you are saying about the other modalities like the new age stuff. I like to use reiki on horses because they are open to it if they need it. They are very responsive and release. I have had horses come to me in a field if they need it. I don’t get heat as much but I get a circling energy in the palm of my hands.

    As an intuitive healer and RMT, I have to concur. Everything you have said here is on point. I dress like a normal person and hold sessions in a very basic basic setting. Occasionally I will add a crystal if called for but beyond that I simply use soothing music, dim lightand take the client. Do a peaceful relaxing place so that they can receive what it is that they need.. Thank you for sharing.

      Crystals have been proved not to work in scientific experiments.It's all in the mind.50 people were given real crystals and 50 were given glass fake crystals.They were all told to expect various sensations such as heat and tingling when holding the crystals.Just as many reported sensations from the glass crystals as were reported from those holding the real crystals.There is no power in a crystal.

    Back in 2013 i was in a mexican prison. One day a blond and handsome dude came to my table and said he wanted to perform a reiki technique on me. He put my left hand between both of his hands without touching. When he started moving his hands I started feeling some kind of magnetism. He said he cleaned my chakras or something like that. Likely just you feeling the airflow and radiating warmth from his hands as well as him likely also touching hairs on your hand either intentionally or unintentionally. People also tend to be more open to suggestion if a person is very confident, which may have given you a placebo reaction. There are many other explanations, but without seeing the situation myself, those are the best I can come up with.

    Thank you for this video. I've been fairly recently attuned as a Level 1 healer and so far, I've been practising only on myself. I don't get all those experiences like very warm hands or tingling or other stuff like my other batch mates . So in a sense, I feel as though I'm walking around with a blindfold. I often wonder if there's anything happening at all. Does Reiki still flow tho I don't sense much?

    • @RootsofLife
      @RootsofLife  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for the comment and your thoughts. Yes, even without sensation Reiki is still flowing as it is simply the energy of all things. With practice, sensitivity to these feelings (heat, etc) may increase...but this is not an indication by any means of depth of practice. If there is any measure to stay focused on in regards to your practice, I would encourage you to keep working towards an ever quieter mind. I hope that helps!

    What I want to ask is slightly off the topic. But it is important.
    There are many reiki videos now on YT. All of the practitioners confidently tell the viewer to accept the reiki healing. BUT. The videos are just videos. There is no one there doing reiki when you are watching the video. I can see doing reiki healing on oneself. I have done it. I can relate to sending distant reiki. And I have done that, though there is always the matter of getting the receiver to agree with the practitioner on the exact time and place for it and to be prepared and grounded. Still, apart from that, when any reiki master makes a video then the video exists somewhere out in the Web and when I tune in to it I am seeing a video of a reiki healing. I am not being skeptical of reiki. I believe the practioner - like me, or my teachers - is channeling this healing energy through her body to you. When that healing session is taped and sent to YT then where is the reiki healing energy? Stored in the Internet? I have sometimes asked a reiki master, in California, and in Massachusetts, to barter reiki sessions with me. And I raise this point - to make sure that we are on the same page about the place and time for the healing - and they have just brushed me off. I have trained in reiki to Level III. But they seemed to relate to me as a skeptic or someone not really far along on the Spiritual journey. They just say their group is sending out reiki to the whole world all the time so I should just open up to it anytime and everything is fine. I am living in Thailand now and here it is not really a matter of skeptics. The Thai people are willing to believe anything could work - just like when they take Rx meds and think maybe the stuff will cure them. But I do the healing in person, with touch. How could I tell anyone that I will do a YT video of me doing a reiki session and they can watch it anytime and it will give them the energy that Dr. Usui tapped into back then and it will work. ? How? If anyone can explain this I would appreciate it.

    • @RootsofLife
      @RootsofLife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thank you for the comment, and I am grateful that you have taken the time to write it all out. I will try my best to explain to you. However, there is a lot here to understand.
      The first issue that needs to be addressed is the belief. This would be the belief in healing, that Reiki can heal, that energy can be sent, or that anyone is a "healer" and they can channel or direct energy. This is simply the belief of the individual - belief is a form of attachment and from attachments come all of our suffering.
      Reiki does heal, indeed, but it does so because it encourages us to drop our attachment and surrender to the self.
      So, to the idea of a recorded session, we have to go back to the notion of surrendering. Reiki is universal energy (as its most basic definition), and so it is the energy of all things in the universe. If one were to surrender their attachments and beliefs, then one would find themselves closer to a union of this energy and the self - or rather, one will find themselves less attached to the notion of the self or of I
      From here, it might be possible to understand the dependent nature of all things and the dependent arising in every moment. I have a full video on this topic on the channel which you are welcome to watch entitled (What Reiki, Meditation, & Mindfulness Often Get Wrong | What Is Reiki | Mindfulness Explained)
      If one can understand the dependent nature of all things, then the notion of time, space, and separation fall away. This allows us a deeper understanding of the third symbol - which is often taught superficially as a way to "send" energy.
      Let go of the attachments; in that space, is there any separation between the one filming the video, the session in that video, and yourself in this very moment?
      I hope that helps!

    Thanks for describing Reiki in common terms. Not sure what you meant by "Holding space for the client"? 6:50. Based on your description, shouldn't any person be able to "Lay hands" on themselves and bring their intention to the area of concern, (or without any hand involvement just using intention) and get similar or better results since I would assume each individual's mind/body connections would be naturally in tune with themselves? Thanks. I practice Chi-Kung and trying to understand the parallels.

    • @RootsofLife
      @RootsofLife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the comment I appreciate it. To what I'm meaning here in regards to holding space for the client - is to maintain a neutral position within the Reiki session so that the client may be able to let go a bit further into their own healing. We can't do that if one is assisting from an attached mind or a mind that is focused on the outcome or experience (from the practitioner perspective). Absolutely we can all heal ourselves, and we've been doing and practicing hands on healing instincitively always, but I'm not sure that we can get better results always if we go it alone. Often people are afraid of their own healing journey, and thus the sensation of neutral and caring touch will help facilitate this journey.
      the practice of Reiki is very much a martial art, as opposed to just a healing modality, in that the individual is working to cultivate internal stillness...so from this, the deeper the practice then, hopefully, the more this route to stillness is cultivated and, from there, then the individual has a more neutral understanding of the energy within all things. This, then, reflects on the session for the client.

      @RootsofLife I see, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining further.As part of my QiGong training, we are working to awaken the "energy body" and become more sensitive to internal sensations. We are one. Source is infinity and is all of us. Sometimes called the unified spirit or collective consciousness or source, or Devine light. We all know it’s true but we agree to forget so that life is fun and exciting. It’s a challenge relearning each time but the more lifetimes your on the path the quicker it speeds up. But that’s now a whole different thing, reiki and ascension thought aren’t directly tied, it’s using the same source energy that’s referenced in EVERY religion. • @RootsofLife
      @RootsofLife  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Thank you for the comment I appreciate it. The difficult thing with proving something is the subjectivity of the data used or the approach taken in gaining the information needed for a proof. This is made even more difficult in regards to something intangible and experencial such as Reiki. There are a good number of papers published within the NCBI that talk about the efficacy of Reiki as a practice...some are well powered and done correctly, some could have been more rigirous, and a few are not worth reading.
      If you do a search for "Reiki Is Better Than Placebo and Has Broad Potential as a Complementary Health Therapy" you'll find a good paper that sums up a lot of the data.
      At the end of the day, these are all subjective experiences still, so for further "proof" I would say the most important approach here is how does it make the individual feel? How is it helping them along? For me Reiki has helped me without a doubt. Some may say that's the placebo effect, if so and there is still positive gains then that's fine. One can further liken Reiki to the efficacy of our own healing when we sleep. To me this is a better summation of Reiki beyond simply just the placebo effect. When we sleep we get out of the way of the self and let the body do what it does naturally...much the same in a Reiki session.

    Ok so this video is helpful. But to say you can't argue with? The reason we grab the injury site (in this case the twisted ankle) is firstly to protect it. And also to apply pressure which can help reduce pain depending on the injury etc.
    As for pregnant mothers touching their baby bumps there are literally hundreds of reasons why they do that. For example to relief the weight their carrying. To self sooth. To connect with the baby/fetus.
    These arguements seem very half baked to me. Which is disappointing. I want to understand, but the more I hear the more disbelieving I get. 😭

    • @RootsofLife
      @RootsofLife  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your comment I appreciate it. Perhaps I can add a bit to the video in that Reiki is something akin to a practice that facilitates a focused awareness. So in the example of a twisted ankle - we would benefit from focused awareness in that we would, ideally, be able to mitigate the pain response, or perhaps other stressors that may be accompany the trauma. From here, the body is able to heal more efficiently as we would be working our way back to the parasympathetic state. Perhaps one can see the hand placements as to protect the ankle or apply pressure, I don't know. I would think that, post sprain, one is already sitting down or not putting weight on it so it is likely removed from any further danger, and also I don't know if we would want to apply pressure, but perhaps.
      As for the pregnancy example, I agree, there can be hundreds of reasons why, but I think it still goes back to the idea of focused awareness. Regardless of the impetus, focalized awareness is likely still the aim here.
      The practice of Reiki is not about healing, rather, it is about a state of being called anshin ritsumei - or to live peacefully in both mind and body. We do this by calming down all the added stressors and external stimuli via focused awareness and, hopefully, with depth of practice, even the last attachment can be let go of so we can just be neutral.
      I hope that helps and thank you for the comment.

    Your awareness doesn’t go to your ankle because your hands are there. You awareness is there because there is a physiological change that sends signals to your brain that are interpreted as pain. Then once your awareness is already there do you place your hands there

      Thank you for the comment. I appreciate it! I believe this is also what I am saying in the video. Around the 2:30 mark, I note that there is - first - a trauma or pain, and then because of that pain, we place our hands instinctively on the site of the trauma. From here, we allow everything else to settle down, and our awareness becomes more focused on the site of the trauma. This is akin to the practice of Reiki in that we are working to quiet down the noise and attachments so the body can do what it naturally does - which is heal.
      I'm grateful for the comment and I hope you found the video beneficial!

      I would guess what you are getting at is the nature of the heat that one may feel during a Reiki session or similar practice?
      This is a peculiar experience with such practices as the practitioner is often able to notice a marked and easily measurable increase in the temperature in the palms. I was reiki attuned about 18 years ago and it blew my mind. In hindsight it was probably a delusion, however I thought I would circle round to videos like this to see if there was something in it. Unfortunately I have to disagree that these arguments would convince a sceptic. One question you could maybe answer to convince sceptics is why doesn't it work better than a placebo?

    • @RootsofLife
      @RootsofLife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the comment, and I'm grateful you watched the video. So to your question, there are several published papers out there that show Reiki to be better than a placebo, for instance:
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5871310/#:~:text=It%20was%20found%20that%20Reiki,between%20groups%20for%20mental%20relaxation.
      However, the ardent skeptic will note that these data points are likely too subjective to be viable. That could be a fair point, but a fully scientific lens will always have difficulty explaining the subjective or the experiential practice. This is why I was leaving it out of this video and rather focusing on the aspects of our life where we perform Reiki instinctively. The fact that we all do this, and always have, and always will... is far more convincing, in many ways than data that can be skewed or not reach stat sig levels to be viable.
      Reiki is a beautiful practice that demands us to turn inward and seek stillness within. If we can reach this, we heal as a by-product - much like when we sleep.
      Enjoy your journey, and perhaps a more esoteric or traditional practice of Reiki would resonate more with you if your initial training were more "Western"?

    Reiki is not real, it has no real proven effect to heal or treat anything, apart from anxiety, low level of pain or similar conditions due to placebo. The only ”energy” that moves in the body are electrical impulses in the nerves and they most definitely do not transfer to another person. Funnily enough, two of the reiki ways described in the video were just psychological effects of pain and physical contact with another person.
    However, as it does not do any dangerous treatments or adjusments and hopefully sends serious health cases to care professionals, I’m personally fine with people doing reiki.
    Edit. To add, yes people feel things like energy, warmth, magnetism, etc. and that is because our brains are very adept at imagining things as well as manipulating how pain and other things are interpreted concurrent with emotions and other sensations.

    • @RootsofLife
      @RootsofLife  18 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I think this skepticism is valid and I feel that much of it is a result of Reiki not being realized as something akin to a meditation practice. If we see Reiki as such a practice, to which there is ample and irrefutable evidence towards associated health benefits, then - I think - the conversation may be a bit less mystical and more grounded in results and evidence.
      As to the energy that one may feel in the practice - the energy in a system (the universe) is fixed, it cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change forms. We are simply a form of this energy and, by engaging in a practice that helps quiet down the rational and busy mind, we may become more sensitive to this energy within all things.
      It's simply sitting and working towards increased stillness - everything along that path is a beneficial byproduct.

  • @stevegoodson9022

    I had a friend who did all these alernative therapies, I helped her out by being a practice reiki patient for someone she was teaching. I can report with absolute confidence that reiki does nothing at all. Obviously if someone holds warm hands near or on your body, that area might feel a little warmer. But a tiny bit of warmth isn't going to heal anything. Also could you explain to someone with a degree in Physics what sort of 'energy' are you talking about? How would you measure it? What other kinds of energy can it be converted to? You know, the tyoes of energy that actually exist, like kinetic energy, electrical energy, thermal energy. Not bullshit 'woo woo' energy
    Nothing in this video is the least bit convincing or even meaningful. It's just the usual bullshit 'energy' word salad. There's a well established method to determine whether a medical intervention works any better thaqn placebo. It's a double blind randomised control trial. A link to a successful trial carried out by an unbiased third party is the only thing which would convince me that reiki is anything other than a psychologically manipulative bit of placebo theatre used to con money out of the extremely gullible.

    • @RootsofLife
      @RootsofLife  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for the comment, and I'm happy to discuss this further. Regarding the energy question, I'm referring to the energy of the universe, which is the energy found in all things. The same energy from the Big Bang. One may feel this in a kinetic way via increases in heat, or perhaps in more potential ways via increases in neutral or passive feelings within the mind and body. Measurement of this would be difficult because it is too subjective, however heat on the hands and the ability to increase or decrease this heat at will is quite measurable.
      The fundamental nature of practices like Reiki is to bring someone closer to a parasympathetic state of existence or rest and restore state. So, from here, we can heal with greater efficiency. This state, unfortunately, is not a measurable state from a statistical perspective, and I wish it could be as there could then be properly powered and relevant double-blind studies that could be performed to prove or disprove the validity of Reiki.
      If we are always looking with a rational lens, then we will also miss much of the story because here, there is no story - there is no form or function to the practice. We are trying to calm down the mind and body so that we can let go of our suffering, anger, resentment, trauma, and so on. If we can do this in a waking state, we can cultivate a state of being that will allow the body to do what it does naturally: heal. Much like we do each night when we sleep - the body rests and restores.
      Reiki is a practice of internal stillness and the cultivation of internal peace. The focus of traditional Reiki is something called anshin ritsumei, and so, to make this more rational or logical, it would be akin to the formless nature of energy at Planck time, where all forces are unified as one. The GUT, in its present state, remains unsolved because of gravity, which is a function of mass. I'm saying all of this because, and this is from a more Buddhist or spiritual perspective now, from this form (mass, our being, etc.) arises all of our suffering - as all suffering comes from attachment and attachment (in a roundabout way) could be simplified to be understood as a natural and inevitable function of mass. So, what is Reiki? It is a practice that helps us soften the form and find peace in a greater sensation, not of the self, but of the universe's energy.
      I'm sorry you've had a negative experience with Reiki. It's unfortunate that Reiki is so often viewed as abstract metaphysical jargon and muddled up with so many other quasi-spiritual practices and thinking. Reiki is none of this-it is simply closing your eyes, quieting down your mind and body, placing your hands on yourself if desired, and allowing the noise and dust to settle. Once everything settles, there is a universe to discover.
      One studies Reiki, namely Usui Reiki Ryoho, to learn how to facilitate the quieting of the mind and the body. In traditional Reiki, the focus is not on healing...it is not on channeling angels or anything else, but rather it is on stillness. It is my hope and desire that an increasing number of people will see Reiki as such a practice, as opposed to often how it is taught and expressed. If this happens, then perhaps more will be able to cultivate a similar stillness within - and that would be beautiful indeed.
      I hope this helps.

    The reason we touch an area that is in pain is because that increases blood flow to that area. Energy doesn't play any role in it other than in the most trivial sense. There's no such thing as an "energy field". There are fields that have energy. Energy is simply the ability of a physical system to do work. It isn't a substance but a property.

    • @RootsofLife
      @RootsofLife  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you for the comment. The energy that I'm referencing here is the same energy that is found through all things in the universe - it is the energy that arose from the big bang, and from which everything came. Just like the GUT is trying to confirm, if once all was energy, then still, all is energy - as total energy in the system is constant, and we are a part of that system. So, when we place our hands on an area of trauma, for instance, then our mental and physical bodies are able to - hopefully - relax and calm down and prioritize healing via the parasympathetic response. This is much the same as when we sleep. If we get the mind and body out of the way then the whole system does what it does naturally, and what all systems strive to do, which is return to equilibrium. This is a state where the resistance to the flow of energy is minimized, and such resistance within the body, for instance, is the very trauma that one may be placing their hands over. This is akin to the basis of Chinese medicine, and similarly why meditation and relaxation practices are able to stimulate a healing response within the body, because such a response is the ability for energy to flow through the system and the system to move closer to equilibrium.

      This is how I understand it: in quantum physics, the concept that “everything is energy” comes from the idea that subatomic particles, which make up atoms, exhibit both particle-like and wave-like behaviors.. this wave-particle duality means these particles have energy states and can be described by their energy… even Einstein’s equation E=mc2 supports this. So, at a fundamental level, everything in the universe, being made of particles, can be considered as forms of energy. (Not a quantum physicist, just a woo-woo girl also trying to understand the strange nature of our universe!)

    I might believe that touching yourself at the point of injury might help focus some of your natural healing power. However, the pain is going to do a great job of that anyway. What kills me about reiki is that practitioners seem to believe that by waving their hands around a persons body they're actually doing anything of value. Sure, the body creates its own field of energy but if anyone thinks they can manipulate that or some so called "universal energy" using their hands, wands or rocks they're sadly mistaken. It just blows me away that people who otherwise seem intelligent fall for this mumbo jumbo. I guess it means that just because you're smart doesn't mean you're not gullible. Reiki is nothing more than pseudo science at its finest.

    • @RootsofLife
      @RootsofLife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Thank you for your comment, and I appreciate your points. Indeed, the pain will help bring our awareness to the point of trauma, and I think if we can further calm that pain down, then the healing will, perhaps, be accelerated - much as it does while we sleep.
      And I fully agree with you on your point in regards to manipulating the energy using hands or other "tools". This is simply the attachment of the mind and the ego, and sadly it is an aspect of the practice of Reiki that, I feel, turns people off...and in many ways for good reason. As Reiki is traditionally practiced, there is no space or need for any of these things that you've mentioned. Reiki is not a "healing" modality, as it is often billed and taught - rather it is a modality that helps us to quiet down the mind and still the body, which allows healing as a by-product. Again, much the same as when we are sleeping. So in order to do this, we need to let go of all of these distractions that busy the mind. We need to turn inward and work on the cultivation of internal stillness. This is an aspect that Western Reiki often doesn't teach or understand, and as such, I believe the perception of Reiki is skewed into the negative. It is a beautiful and simple process more akin to meditation, in many ways. I hope that helps and thank you for the comment!

      Thanks for the comment and for watching the video...I hope you've enjoyed it. Traditional Japanese Reiki, which is Usui Reiki Ryoho, is a practice of surrendering the mind and body into, hopeful, neutrality, and just working on cultivating that space. This superceedes the idea or use of any external tools, beliefs, thoughts, images, sources, practices, modalities and so on. This is what I'm referring to with a neutral approach to the practice. Everything beyond neutrality is belief. So why have everything else beyond neutrality then? Because the journey inward is often a difficult one and sometimes we need things that we believe in to help us find something more true about our self.
      I would say the difference between Usui Reiki Ryoho and all other touch based modalities is simply found in the neutrality, first and foremost, that is the focus of this practice. If we can find neutrality...meaning no thoughts and no belief, then what else is there?
      We definately need human contact to live healthier lives, and I appreciate you noting that...I think this is what Reiki and touch practices, in particular, can help facilitate...however again back to the neutrality of the practice, I think this is the key. As I'm noting in the video, if someone comes to me for a session they are going to be best served if the session is neutral from my perspective. Often times, and to the detrement of the practice, practitioners have beliefs in themselves as if they are "healers" and "divine channels" and so on...but that, again, is all the belief of the ego from the practitioner. To be fully present with someone in a session is to stand with them, without judgement, thoughts, belief or story, and to simply be present as the individual embarks further on their own journey inward.
      For the papers and research on Reiki, if you have a look through the comments I've covered this side in a reply to the user @kriptonis. This is a tricky part though because we are tryign to explain something that is fundamentally intangible via avenues that demand tangibality. So in all the papers and research that is out there supporting Reiki there are few that are done correctly and statistically well powered.
      I hope this helps and thanks for the comment!

      You are capable of taking what he says and doing your own research, yes? And I mean true scientific/medical research as in academic not social media opinions.

      The sprained ankle self touch and the mother touching her womb are explanations that you are already naturally your own source. He mentions other cultures that are comfortable with mind/body/spirit/energy lifestyles as the generational norm. He also mentions Western culture being rather separate from this science. It is science that is finally reproveing for us all that we are electromagnetic beings to give the proof that skeptics were pondering. There are tremendous sources to learn from that are hundreds of years old.

      @@christenw.1726people have gotten used to all their problems being solved by an outside source. This is why they always ask for proof but never seek it themselves.
