Another brilliant teaching. So many students of Reiki fail to understand that the practice is all internal work. Lifelong internal work! Thank you. 🙏

Hi Bruce, I hope you're well. Thanks for referring me to this video. We 'spoke' below your 'what is Reiki' video in the last couple of days. Like I said, I have just completed my Level 1 and am booked (and paid) onto my Level 2 in a couple of weeks. But in my Level 1 I was lead to believe that I was channelling energy. We were drawing energy up from the earth, we held balls of light above our heads, we squeezed and stretched balls of energy between our hands, and now feeling a little foolish, I have to admit that I thought this was actually the case simply because it was my intention. We covered the precepts, meditations and hand positions as well but there was little to no mention of the absolute stillness nevermind that 'letting go' was the entire point. It was more about being what the magnifying glass does to the sun light; focusing the energy. And the course was in Usui Reiki not one of the other iterations. If all the practice is to be able to quiet the mind, then if someone was a seasoned and effective meditator, could that person bring about the same benefit for self and others as an effective Reiki practitioner? Or what is the benefit of effective Reiki / practitioner above effective meditation / practitioner? Thanks a mill 🙏🙏🙏

Hello Ryan, thanks for the comment here...so with the levels of URR, there is a graduated approach to the practice, in many ways, with each level. Shoden, level one, from a Japanese perspective, is all about turning inward, likely for the first time. The western approach frames the practice in terms as you are describing... channeling, amplifying, and overall just "doing" things with the energy. We have to always ask ourselves, if Reiki is the energy of everything, then how could we channel this or amplify this? This is the mistake in the Western approach. It still may be a beneficial journey for you and you still may learn beneficial things...for instance, my initial training were in much the same language and it lit the desire in me for the practice, but my practice only really took off once I studied the roots.
To your question of Reiki as a form of meditation, indeed this is what it is, and this is what Usui Sensei was originally teaching to those who already had an adept practice. There is a lot here to discuss, and I'm happy to do so via email with you. But to put it in brief: Reiki is a meditative practice, the healing is a byproduct. So, if that is the case, why do we learn Reiki? Because we need to understand the journey towards a quiet mind and we need tools to help us get there.
This is how the journey with Reiki teachings and trainings evolves from Shoden - Okuden - Shinpiden.
Looking forward to talking further, feel free to email anytime.

      Insightful inquiry, Ryan!
In one of the first Usui Reiki classes I taught as a new Master, one student was very reluctant to come - but her guides wanted her to! (She'd just seen the flier, and had other plans for the day!)
After the first attunement, she got her ah-ha. She told me 'before,' she would have to 'pull energy' from all around her - she could see the energy flowing into me, through my crown, as I 'talked Reiki' and taught, and FELT that happening in herself!
I was so grateful 🙏 , as I was just beginning to teach! I often think of being jumper cables for the energy to flow - hook them up, and they form a link to the charged battery.
This cultivation of quiet space and neutrality are core 🙏
      Blessings on your Reiki Journey.

this video has so many insights, I for one feel a need to get back to it a few more times and catch something new each time :). For now what is the resounding message is to continuously, relentlessly working on self practice and cultivate the "realm of no belief". Bless you always 🙏

Thank you for the comment. I think the point I'm making, that you are eluding to, is where I'm talking about the external world being a reflection of our internal world...so if we work to quiet our internal mind and body, then the external world becomes calm as well - external turmoil is a reflection of our own internal turmoil.
      I hope that helps!
