Hello. It's been a while! Sorry about that, I'm finally back from the shop with milk.
So in all seriousness, I feel like I have a lot to talk about regarding WoW and my situation, but honestly I may make a separate video on that. But for now - I have quit playing WoW.
The game and the company are just a shell of their former selves. There isn't a day for me that goes by where I don't think about the good times and memories I've had in WoW and how they aren't coming back. Even though I loved Classic initially, I was surprised how it also could fall in my eyes due to Blizzard's neglect. The whole situation is sad. Dumb decisions have been stacking for over 5 years now and the game is a mess. In recent times, every time I played WoW I had to stop every 10 minutes or so and ask myself "Where did it all go wrong?". I just don't think it's worth my time and money anymore.
That isn't to say I'm quitting WoW content, I'm still not sure about that and will update you when I make a decision. This also doesn't mean I'm switching over to FFXIV content, it just so happened that I've been enjoying it on streams and I didn't feel okay making WoW centred videos.
Also, I may be trying to put in some more time into streaming, because it's honestly been pretty enjoyable. So feel free to drop by :)

I think I had my first WoW refugee in FF14 today.
Was running Sigmascape 4.0 vs Omega the Crab-bot. We wiped twice, getting further the second time than the first (after stopping to explain some mechanics after the first wipe). Dude jumps in chat, "So this is where we disband right?"
At the time the group was still going so we let it run, but they wiped. Third try it came down to me and one tank, a Paladin, and I eventually died to mechanics that I couldn't survive as a DPS (stack marker), and it was down to the Paladin. Dude managed to finish off the last 10% of Sigamascape 4.0 by himself, worked mechs like a champion and kept himself alive with Clemency. When he dropped the boss the chat erupted and everyone was asking him to wait so they could commend him.
WoW guy was the first to ask him to stay, felt awesome :)

See I had an opposite experience..we had I assume a wow refugee playing gladiator and he was pulling one group at a time (I as the healer even assured him I got him) and he refused to to the point one of our DPS was pulling an extra pack to help speed us up
He said "now I see why nobody likes this shit game" and promptly left the group
And we cleared some more without him

    • @Gatescholar
      @Gatescholar ปีที่แล้ว +9

@orakuotaku to be fair, I don't like it when people pull ahead of me as the tank. I try to go wall to wall, but I don't have the quickest reflexes and unless I've been running a piece of content over and over within the last week my knowledge of where enemies are and how I'll have to pull may be fuzzy.
So I'll generally stop to do an AoE to pull as many as I can, then move on to the next pack once I've got all the mobs.
Howevere it sometimes happens that a DPS will keep running and just pull the next pack without stopping. Then I habe to rush ahead and grab them off the DPS before they die.
So I somewhat understand the frustration of having someone pull extra mobs. Thinking back to when I first started tanking I would'veb been freaked out to see all of them coming at us. Just takes some people longer to get used to W2W pulls.

Real talk, 2:15 on is what I've told my friends.
    I came over to 14 about three years ago FROM WoW, and recently talking about the WoW refugees one of my XIV friends was like "some of them are just so toxic". And that's when I had to lay the truth on them;
WoW DOES that to you. so much of WoW is SO toxic you become toxic as a defense mechanism. You wallow in toxicity and adapt to it. So a ton of the WoW refugees are who are still toxic are that way because they're still in that mindset. They do it to defend themselves. Heck, it took me a few months to finally let my guard down cause I kept expecting a hidden camera crew to jump out and start talking about my mom and telling me to uninstall the moment I relaxed.
WoW refugees are more like rescues. They need time to learn they won't be abused in their new home XP

This is a little dumb, some people are toxic just because in general they enjoy it. That’s the reason toxicity starts to begin with. No need for emotional support groups or hug sessions to make someone nontoxic. They are in a lot of cases that way because they like it, such as myself.

you maxed out all healers? Man ive been here for years and havent done that yet.
and yeah, Ive rarely found a toxic in ff14, but its clear its some personal problem... when i started tanking, the poor healer got lumped with us for the hardest dungeon in ARR... he was blaming me for the wipes and not keeping mobs off him in a super chaotic fight, after it was clear arguing would just lead to more arguing, i took the blame and said id try better. Later when he died to simple mehcanics outside a boss room he left... It was clear to me as a healer main the guy was being pushed like never before just as i was the first time i ran that damn lighthouse as healer...
not an excuse to blame the tank for it but i understood it.

Still, I play for fun. If I can't be assed to take the time to explain things or learn a new mech, or it's stressing me out to where I'm arguing, just turn off the game. Why bother pissing yourself off? At least that's my approach

Gotta say... video is spot on, but really doesn't capture the level of "we will do this together" FFXIV has going for it. Try Seat of Sacrifice in Shadowbringers. There are several points in that fight where it's an automatic group wipe if someone messes up. It's not uncommon to have 5+ wipes on that fight. No one rages. No one quits. Someone takes the reins every time and walks all the people failing mechanics through what's going on. And then... something magical happens. Something that not once happened in WoW's toxic, awful community has ever happened in my 15+ years. We take the "garbage", "trash", "sub-optimal" pugs and we get the fight down. It's like a magical revelation coming from WoW. All these people ever needed was respect and patience and all it cost me was an extra 15 minutes and I still got my content done.

Some of the most chill people in early raids, dungeons, and trials. Don't think I've had even one DC after a wipe. I've had a ton of fun just shit-talking with others during the cutscenes of ARR's end story dungeons. A ton of laughs were had when me and a group of 3 other new players had Scooby-Doo hijinks during Wanderer's Palace.
I only just recently hit Heavensward after several months because I would just have days where I either spent it all crafting and chilling, enjoying all the small player organized events in town. I've spent a lot of time listening bard bands or just taking a minute between quests to watch a basically a flash mob of dancers.
In short... Game is good. The social aspect is amazing.

They probably ran off before the rest of the group even had the chance to harrass them. (It triggered their PTSD - and yes I mean this seriously)
I've played a healer in WoW pretty much since release of the game (didn't play at all for a couple of years) and my last dungeon with randoms before I uninstalled everything Blizzard related was me trying desperately to keep a group alive in which the tank always pulled too much for the amount of damage this group could do, during a week with the worst affix of them all, just to get r.a-p.e. threats in the whisper because I couldn't save the fire mage who thought they could camp in an aoe on a high key. And that was pretty much standard behaviour if you dared to play with random people in WoW as a healer. Best case scenario was: You just get s-hit on because you didn't skill some specific skill despite some world first raider having declared this the best skill four months ago, but otherwise nobody talks to you.
I have thick skin, but honestly I was panicking too when I died for the first time in group content while we were doing the "Final Steps of Faith" fight and I saw how the group started to drop. I apologized at least 10 times because I was so sure that I would get insulted and/or threatend. I'm more relaxed now, but it's still hard not to get anxious everytime someone dies because I couldn't save them even if it was their own mistake.

If you have a new player, the game tells everyone there’s a new player (without identifying them). It also gives you a reward for it so you’re like, heck yeah a new player extra poetics for me. And then, if a fight ahead has mechanics, ad the experienced player you realize that it’s in your best interest to explain the mech to make it easier and more pleasant for everyone.
So, as the new player, people are actively glad to see you, they explain mechs without you having to ask, and if there is a wipe, people are understanding because they know someone is new.
And this behavior becomes a habit; people will not disband a roulette party that wiped even if it’s all experienced players because they’re simply not in the habit of disbanding.
It’s a genius system that, without ever “forcing” you to be nice to other players, makes it so that it’s always in your best interest to do so.

Then we waste time together hits me so hard...
I still remember the first time I challenged Titan, didn’t know the gimmicks at all and failed for at least 8 times to dodge the knock back. But still, my WoL teammates encouraged me to try again until we beat that boss.
    Good memories.
