the interest in the game always spikes at every expansion. he isnt wrong. its just that every time it spikes, ppl quickly realise that nothing has changed, same dogshit systems, in different skin. if and i say IF blizzard would release an expansion that is at least half decent gameplay wise, it would be able to keep player interest.

I disagree. It's just his point of view, not the view of "everyone." But - in many cases - he's right.
It really only applies to idiotic fanboys or just plain people with a lack of willpower and/or intelligence.
The community as a whole? Yes it's true and it's sad. Me? I treat games like booty calls. If it isn't giving me what I want I dump it to the curb. A game, just like a person, has to make my life measurably more enjoyable or I won't waste my time with it/them.
Remember when everyone was boycotting Blizzard because of the Hongkong stuff? People stopped doing it really fast after the OW2 cinematic and Diablo 4 etc. He is unfortunately completely right. People will also start throwing money at CDPR again if they do anything Witcher related
Yep. CDPR, Ubisoft, EA, Activision, heck even Konami are the proof of all this.
Sometimes it's satisfying watching things burn down. Especially when a company like Blizzard doesn't listen to their player base and ignores them by putting boring, grindy mechanics into the game which people gave negative feedback on.

My one wow friend was 100% the embodiment of that scene.
What is copium?
Everytime Asmon tries to convince his viewers about the possibility of a positive future for wow and the chat goes 'do a poll' it's so hilarious lmao.
He said what he said that's just because this is his first time quitting. He just need to do go back a few time more until he quit for good, because that was my experience with wow bfa and then shadowland.
Guys. As of June 2019 (last time he checked), Asmongold had 32000 (32 thousand) hours in WoW. That is almost 4 years of total time spent in front of the game. He also has extreme anxiety anytime anything changes in his life (he likes comforting routines), which is something that Mcconnell has mocked him for. All I am saying is that Asmon is coping extremely hard and has only spent 1 month away from WoW now, after his whole LIFE was 24/7 WoW. You cannot expect such a person to instantly accept that they have wasted all that time in WoW on a terrible game that they only played because of addiction, semi-autistic habit and sadness. It may take Asmon a long time to drop WoW if he ever does. Because he will feel major "sunk cost" anxiety. Wow was his LIFE. Literally the only thing he did with his life. Separation anxiety will be extreme in this one.
But I really hope this is what finally breaks him free from his addiction and let's him relax and enjoy other things in life.

I'm where Zepla is with WoW. You know the old saying "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me?" Well, BFA was fooling me once, Shadowlands was twice. It'll take A LOT for me to ever come back. And the more their lead developers talk on twitter, the less and less likely it is going to be for me to return. They aren't just angry at what's going on right now in their own company, they have an active DYSTAYNE for the player base unless you're the ones that fellate them on how good their trash ass systems are.
Fixed the spelling of a word for all of the people who ignore the entire post because 1 word is incorrectly spelled but still completely readable.

@@burnzey1785 I know I'm in the minority, but I honestly didn't mind WoD all that much. But that's because I spent that entire expac leveling alts to farm garrison gold to get the TCG mounts and also farming other rep mounts and rare drop mounts and stuff. I actually liked Legion aside from the dogshit ass legendary system early on that they fixed. But BFA was the first time that I've ever gone more than 2 weeks without playing. I played for about 1 patch and couldn't do it. I hated Azerite gear so much. Then I come back to Shadowlands to more disrespect when it comes to my time. So fuck em, I'm done.
Agreed. It isn't that my goodwill and trust in Blizzard has gone from ultra-high to neutral. That would be where I was after D3 and Cataclysm/MoP. They've been digging straight down deep into the negatives, where I distrust everything they say by default and need rock solid proof that their game and actions aren't garbage.
They need a World of Warcraft Reborn at this point lol
Everyone is acting all virtuous and shit but like Asmon said a while ago: Most people stopped playing the game because it's trash, not because of the harrassment lawsuit. The moment it becomes fun again even for a couple of weeks, they'll get back to wow, forgive Blizzard and forget about it until it's boring again.
He never said that. He said their boycott will be put aside when a good cinamatic trailer comes out. Not the same thing at all.
I quit not because Shadowlands is trash, I was a roleplayer I made my own fun, but because I was sick of Blizzard's seeming resentment to the community. The lawsuit was just further vindication in burning the bridge.

The problem with writing for a supposedly smart character in a story, is that the writers themselves have to be smart, at least to some extent. How much confidence does the WoW player base have in the intelligence of the WoW writers?
You don’t even need to be ‘smart’ to write a smart character, you just need to spend a lot more time thinking things through lol
@@Chopin124 I would have agreed with you twenty years ago, but observing other writers at work and the results of certain writing teams have convinced me that there's a cut off range at which point a writer consistently fails to ask the necessary questions while doing research and brainstorming.
I hate that he's so right about the boycott thing, as soon as the new shiny expansion comes out a lot of people are just going to go straight back to WoW.

it is normal for people to try the new expansion AND enjoying it. getting players back is not hard at all. but it is an art to keep em. and if things go on like this history will repeat itself.

I'd go as far as to say noone was fooled by the "LK gets his a*s beat by the Simp Queen" cinematic trailer for SL.
I was more hyped after the Afterlives: Bastion cinematic than the official expac trailer.
Diablo 2 Resurrected cinematics look dope as hell though :)
But I can watch those on TH-cam - the gameplay is the same it was 20 years ago. I'll do fine without it.
I actually enjoyed WoW up through Legion, despite being a FFXIV player for the most part. BFA drove me away forever, though. I lasted a month, I think, before getting absolutely bored with the grind. I felt like I couldn't play anything else. Had no desire to come back for Shadowlands. With FFXIV, I feel like I can take a break and do other things and not miss out in everything.
I think many wow quitters go thru a general pattern. You quit. When next expansion is released you get nostalgic see the past thru rose colored glasses. So you pick up the expansion, play a few months and realize why you quit in the first place, so you quit again. You repeat this for the next and next expansion but the time you spend before quitting gets shorter and shorter. Finaly you dont even come back.
This is my personal experience and it seems many have similar.

Yeah man. If that’s the case I quit a long ass time ago. Last expansion I played through would be Wrath. Starting with Cata I quit the game for several months at a time to play other things. I would play during launch for first couple months. Then quit for 3-9 months or so. Then come back when all the systems and patches were in place to skip all the BS gimmicks.

Not to mention that if you wanted to play a character optimally in Shadowlands you had such a HUGE grind ahead of you.
Literally having to learn another class or spec, but also getting hundreds of thousands of gold for the legendary, CHOREGHAST, grinding dungeons/rating for gear, having to grind dungeons as a pvper to get conduits/legendary memories, janky raider io system, fighting against pvp boosters, pugging mythic dungeons/raids/rated pvp is a shit show, and waiting for hours for an alright tank just to play a couple decent matches of rated battlegrounds.
This is the most alt unfriendly expansion we have ever had. And they never listened to the community to make it better, like adding a solo queue to rated pvp, or reducing the grind on these end game systems. And what do they do next patch? The same. Damn. Thing. I'm done with this game wasting my time.
And as Blizzard has shown, they can AND WILL make you do all the work again as soon as the next patch for player retention.
True. I mained warrior but wanted to try out some rogue gameplay. Got halfway leveled before I just quit. Meanwhile in FFXIV I can change to any class at the click of a button.
It is mind-blowing that they create the covenant system, and then both make it so that switching them is such a fucking pain in the ass (and doesn't make sense narratively) and that most specs have one (or at best two) specific choices that are good, with the others being shit. It's so weird they create new gameplay systems and they don't want people freely switching between them and experiencing the systems they spent time creating by timegating it behind dumb shit. They literally make content, and then discourage people from exploring all that they have created (and yes, I know there are probably developers and concept artists and game designers working on WoW that are also disappointed to see this, but still) by chasing after metrics instead. On top of that, if you do have multiple viable covenant choices or want to multi-spec, you sometimes have to sacrifice something (like mobility) by switching for better damage (such as going from Night Fae or Venthyr to Necrolord or Kyrian, for example), and even if you grind up renown for a specific covenant, you lose the sense of ownership and accomplishment immediately as soon as you have to switch to a more meta covenant (or want to play another spec, in some cases), because switching back to the covenant requires a fuckin' timegated switch-back quest. Make covenants freely swappable, or, hell, let us choose a "base of operations", and let us pick which covenant abilities we want (where we could mix and match, such as being Kyrian but keeping Soulshape). If you want to increase some bullshit engagement metric, put some kind of a requirement behind every covenant before you can freely use their abilities or something.
THE most fuckin' ridiculous thing about WoW is that core progression is timegated this hard. The game has a monthly subscription fee, and their method of getting people to stay subbed is to just keep them waiting for basic fuckin' gameplay systems to become available for them to be able to have more fun and/or be more competitive in the content they create...rather than just...creating content that players will enjoy and want to re-visit, potentially adding excitement for future runs through covenant ability combo mix-and-matching etc, not through just waiting.
A big part of the problem of WoW is this timegating, when the "grind" they should lean on more is just that: something stuck behind either effort or input. Having Torghast give infinite anima (at a lesser amount of subsequent runs) was a step in the right direction, in my opinion, but really not enough (especially for something as unrewarding and pointless in general as Torghast is). I think an MMO, by its nature, requires grinding (especially for those that wish to be competitive), but it's dumb of them to lock the content they themselves made FOR the players to be behind timegates. Gear, I get. More numbers on a damage meter doesn't particularly alter gameplay or how one plays their character, but stop locking us out of easily-accessed VARIETY, Blizzard, for fuck's sake.

Absolutely, cuts to other streams to get some extra audio in or provide context is great. The volume of work here is huge and the editors are doing a great job!

I don't play WoW, I only followed Asmon's twitch channel after his talks with Dr K and happened to be a FF14 player. After hearing so much WoW stuff in his intros before FF14, even I can understand a good portion of the jokes happening here.
Blizzard doesnt do anything about bots because bots make up most of their active player base.
I still dont understand why Blizzard have still not let Horde and Alliance players to party up since the realm disparity is such an issue...
I mean... the Horde and Alliance HAVE been teaming up to face every world threat so far...
Would make sense that at some point the factions would at least forgiven some pasts...
Because Blizzard is obsessed with unnecessary systems, and the Horde an Alliance has been a nonsense one from the game's inception.
And they've been drinking this kool-aid for YEARS. To the point where they actively insult the Alliance. Can you imagine if Square Enix said fuck catgirls, or Riot said top laners are mouth breathers, or something like that?
They couldn't sell faction transfers if there was no factions 😉
BTW in case you didn't notice every 2 years they change racials to make horde or alliance more attractive to incentivise buying a faction swap.

I mean, he only plays WoW, only plays warrior, 60% of his streams are arena/bgs, 30% weightlifting and 10% other WoW things. Baj is a great guy, but his content is one dimensional and I personally got bored with it a long time ago.
Definitely a big oof to see the smaller WoW creators just skate right past the controversy and continue pushing out the same stuff. At least Baj gave his take, but... It wasn't a great take. Something something time to pivot etc

It seems unlikely that a new wow expansion will be received well. Blizzards sales have been carried by cinematics, but this PR disaster is one of the worst yet.
Well people seem to be exited about D2 now. It wouldnt surprise me if they get hyped for next wow xpac again.
Look at Asmongolds D2R Cinematic reaction and how hyped he and his chat was, people dont actually care about the Sexual harrassment or the abuse going at Blizzard as soon as the new shiny thing gets announced people easily forget. Asmongold is 100% correct when he said that a gamers boycott only lasts until the next new cinematic gets released
@@nakki123 diablo 1 and 2 was my main jam in middle school and high school. The cinematics look great, but unless I see that hardcore pvp mode I'm not playing. Asmongold will probably play it a few solid months and drop it. I played the originals for years. Diablo 3 failure was an end of an era for me and many of my friends. Sure we were replaced as the target audience, but then again it seems the target audience are people with expendable incomes and short attention spans.

To the point at the end: I loved playing alts, so in expansions were there was a definitive “best in slot” list I could play my main, get him to the point where he was as good as I could get him for my skill level and then work on an alt and repeat the process.
When they took that away I never felt that same level of satisfaction on my main again and lost interest much more quickly.

They should put their priorities straight. Also they immediately repaired the Timewalking "problem" where people got too much XP as intended.

SL is a bag of shit.
Ya I'm not sure how he can say that when it contradicts what he just said. SL's gearing system is designed to have you slowly gear up over months. You can't just grind out content and get max ilvl gear in a week or something. It also still has something close to an infinite grind with the conduit upgrades.

I thought titanforging was a decent system. It's good to have rarer loot like +10 ilvl loot so that people have a reason to rerun raids and stuff after they have the common drops.
That said, I think a better system would be to have a few rarer items on each boss but titanforging is less work for blizzard.

An advantage of having systems in place that allow you to be 'finished' with the game means you can start to enjoy/appreciate the other aspects of the game. It also means that content that isn't relevant to your character's power level can be done without feeling like you're limiting yourself/putting yourself at a disadvantage.
Well... I disliked BfA so I quit. When SL came out, I waited a bit for the hype to pass. I did well, I saved my time and money.
Same. Shadowlands was the first expansion where I just waited to see how good it was.
It doesn't matter what Blizzard pulls out their ass, I am done with them. I unsubbed, gave away my gold, deleted almost all my characters (forgot some unimportant alts), uninstalled and deleted my bnet account. Maybe, like a HARD MAYBE I will consider a private server if I am that desperate for WoW, but Blizzard is not getting another fucking penny of my money. I would sooner destroy my PC and go full console that go crawling back to Blizzard.
"You might wanna come back and try the new expansion." I did that a few expansions despite better judgement. The current expansion is the first one I didn't play. Enough is enough. Nothing is going to change for the better. The only people coming back are the ones addicted to the game that have to come back.
Same, Legion was about the point where I was starting to wrap up. I tried BfA once, went “that was a mistake”, took one look at Shadowlands and decided I wasn’t falling for that again.

Each new expansion for wow is like each new call of duty and need for speed - you think you do, but you don't. Underground 2, cod4: mw and wrath of the lich king are gone, it's past time, we are chasing nostalgia of being 10/15 years younger.

TBC Classic players who are done with phase 1 can't wait for phase 2.
Live players who are done with 9.1 can't wait for it to be over.

the reason thanos work in the muc is because of the years of comic books that built him up. Most of the people that went to see hi had years or a friend to learn about him and get to know his character
I started playing in late TBC, and I've been abandoned in the middle of horrible expansions by collapsing guilds twice now. First in WoD, then in BFA. I'm not gonna go back just to be left halfway through a raid tier in a beta test expansion with no reason to log on without raids again.
thanos was also in the avengers (1) post credit scene. those post credit scenes really kinda carried the hype for thanos while we had nothing to do but wait for the next MCU movie. the reason it never worked with the jailer was because he was introduced in the same expansion we kill him in. how were we supposed to know to be hyped for him?

I've been that player who returns time and again. But I'm done being that stupidly naive to think anything is going to change just because the next trailer is extra shiny.
In agriculture there's this technique of burning soil before planting there again, since it enhances the crop growth of said soil. That is a suitable metaphor for what I think needs to happen at Blizz and even then I would want to wait a while to see if they actually grow nicely instead of becoming another pus-laden patch of filth. Don't have much faith in the former happening so fat chance I'd sub to the game again.
shadowlands is literally the first xpack i've never tried. even for TBC, Pandaria, and WoD I came in the end to check things out because it was on sale. BfA got me to turn away forever.
The love I'll always have for old school WoW and what the game once was, is exactly why I'm enjoying watching it burn.

Offcourse people will return for a new expension or update, but my guess is that its gonna become harder to retain those player and the amount of time played will decrease every single time unless they get their shit together.

I always remmeber playing WoW to its fullest and still having time for Rainbow six rouge spear or Diablo's or Halo.... Its only been recent years that its like no 24 hrs on wow because thats how classic had to be yet I when i played vanilla I split my time very well now it may have been like a solid 12-14 hrs on WoW but I still played other games and never felt slighted.

My mother plays WoW, she just complained that the monthly pass or something cost way too much in the AH. I don't play so no idea why this came up on my screen, but ok.

People are DONE with the hype trains, and sure, a lot of people will, but i feel like most people won't unless there is a really good reason for it.
Yes that is correct. The problem is that, this is asmon's first try of quitting wow, he didn't quit on bfa or shadowland. He quit on tbc. He just needs more of those dissapointment just like us then he will see how we felt and quit for good.
