- This is one of the coolest looking Crawlers I've had the pleasure of owning! The Gatekeeper suspension (GKS) is really nice, and the truck handles great! Check out the very similar but 'NEW' Element Ecto Trail Truck (link Below)

I built an Enduro builders kit and liked it. The shocks if built correctly do not leak. My guess is one of the lower caps was loose. Also if you rebuild them add some of the associated green slime to the lower o-rings
100% agree... one of the best shocks in the crawler market, silky smooth.
Green slime is the key to building a non leaky shock.

Good to see another Gatekeeper video, and good to hear your opinion, too! I'm a bit on the fence with this, been keen on it since I first saw it on a Hemistorm video. I think I'm getting it soon, the kit, get a fantastic servo but might go cheap on ESC/motor and tyres, for now... Still got no idea if I want it for crawling or for trail run/bash, ha ha...
My lmt front shocks did the same it turned out to be the shock piston rod having a snag and nicking the o-rings that keep the oil in.
I have a Gatekeeper.
After watching your video I definitely see the few free upgrades I did to mine are well worth the time. Cut foams in tires, the factory foams are way too hard, lower it, take the screws out that hold the body to the frame in the front. Mine is a crawling machine now that keeps up with just about anything.
I love the look of it, also it is just plain fun to own.

I want it. I don't own an rc at the moment but I have had a Tamiya Blackfoot and a Traxxas T-max 3.3 and I find the crawling very interesting and I really love everything about this rig. The chassis the body type the details really everything speaks to me now to make some money to buy it

You bring a great attention to the transmission and versatility of this truck. This is definitely a competitor to the Ryft kit version that’s on back order at the moment. Your video clearly shows the room the truck has for an upgrade path with the motor and esc too. Plenty of room there for an all in one.
That front overdrive is pretty cool.
just by swapping the gears in the bag you can double the ratio.

Yep got the new truck from them with the flat bed and when I got it out off the box the right hand side shock looks like it vomited all the oil out so bit of a disappointment for me , would love to see you strip down and check the shocks and refill as I haven’t done this before and appreciate all your help with this , great content as usual

I love my Trailwalker and am trying to decide between one of these and a Bomber next. People seem to say these are very tippy but I was chatting to someone about it on another GK video and they reckon little 6mm spacer wheel hexes make it perfectly stable. Your review has probably sold me, most stuff out there is about the kit version but this RTR looks really nice.

These things are awesome rigs. My buddy has 1 and it's a great performer and does very well at our local comps. Not sure how it does with the stock electronics though as his has a holmes hobbies crawl master pro 16t with a holmes hobbies br-xl esc,lol. I don't know his esc settings as he won't share those secrets,lol
whoa! i *litchrilly* had the Gatekeeper in my hands about 2 hours ago messin' with it's articulation at my LHS. everything about this model makes me want to go crawlsDeep in to a backyard rock course. also, i would have preferred the bouncy music at the 15min montage. jus' sayn =oP

I'm purchasing this to do an ifs swap to make a scale trophy truck as that gatekeeper suspension is perfect for a long travel trophy truck
looking forward to the element ecto with the same trailing arm setup
Lower it, widen it, get the brass weights front and rear for low down weight to offset the heavy cage........job done!

The element shocks are usually really good. Mine never leaked. Maybe a faulty set? I do like the look of the gatekeeper though :)
It is normal for the shocks to appear soft It is that the shock is mounted half way along the arm rather than at the end as normal.
Yes Tom thanks for this show do you think more bobbly tyres would help this rig a lot🤔 slips a lot more than grips it seems maybe do a side by side show on the same course using this and the trx4 or new bronco if you have either

Nice video as always,I have the gatekeeper kit have swapped the springs to green on the front white on the back have a hw fusion 1800kv motor and ESC combo and a 32kg WP servo have also bought and waiting for an extreme RC 4x4 servo mount and full size battery tray and lo pro shock mounts to turn up ,but with the spring change it works really well
Sounds like a decent set up you have!
@@TomleyRC it works needs fine tuning shock wise,have found better overdrive gears which will take it from 10% up to 25% and more to
I love the look of this, and the other similar cars (Ryft, Capra, Wraith, Wraith Spawn, etc). I won a heavily modded Axial Yeti a few months ago, and am considering selling that, and buying something else, but can't find anything that really does what the Yeti does. I don't really want another crawler (have a TRX4 Sport) so wanted something a bit quicker. The parts on the Yeti must be £700, so I have a lot of scope to change!! 👍🏻

I put a creep body on mine . Excellent without that weight on top . I do like the cage but I like it better without .

I know it is off topic for the video, I am in the market for a low budget 2nd RC to do everything with is there a better option for the price than the wltoys 144001? I am wanting to be able to just change wheels for different types of terrain. My other RC is a crawler so it doesn't need to do that.
Need to get the gatekeeper to meet the key master...

I would choice the Capra, it has quite a bit more support for upgrades and a larger community for advice. But either would be a good choice... for me though, Capra 😎👌
I think this is the more upscale precursor to the Ecto. A lot of greif about the sorta Creep sorta Power Wagon body on the Ecto.
IFS option would be interesting.
Been a while but which one did you like better of the two elements?
There’s a third position switch On the radio 3 channels Duel rates for a winch on the third channel i’m running a servo winch with a ESC for a different power source you can plug it in the receivers 3ch I just choose to use an Esc for winching for more power 👊 2s& 3s
Rear suspension is very similar to the FTX Outlaw

Very nice video Mr Tomley. Was just wondering where you rate this in comparison to the FTX Geo. looking to get my first rock crawler around this sort of cost and you always have a careful and considered opinion.
I really like the FTX Geo, it’s a very nice crawler, and I prefer the scale look of it. Both good, but if I had to choose, it would be the Geo

The second servo mount is for a servo winch. The hard plastics can be a bit to brittle for the axles. I got the builders kit at the start of the year.
to make it easy to remove the body remove the screw pins for the hinge mount.

Dam it Phil what you going to me mate lol, I’m really liking this dare say am I liking it more then my trx4. I’m sure the leaky shocks are an easy fix with some Better quality oring.. in fact the leaking shock is huge let down, sell it to me mate 😂😂😂
£319.00 currently is the best i could find for this but is it 3 x better than the FTX Ravine ???

If your shocks are leaking id reccomend VRX or FTX as a replacement. Beauty of this hobby is that you dont need to use the same brand parts on alot of cars.

My Trailrunner came with a leaky shock out of the box, and the steering servo overheated and spewed smoke on the second run after only driving for 20/30min on 3s
I dunno if I just got a dodgy one or what.
My reverse is also very choppy and stutters

I’d love for you to make an update in a few months after you’ve ran it some more to see if you run into any issues.
I saw a few other YT videos mention they noticed the servo get warm during testing so I wonder if this is a common issue

Hey Tom it’s me Jamie Schweitzer.
I’m clueless to starting a channel and what’s involved. Made a short video today on my phone as I don’t know editing.
Anyway I noticed on my channel on my phone it won’t let me put any channels in the featured channel section. Do u need permission from channels or do I need to use a pc instead of my phone.

Don't forget the new Ecto from Element is on the way. It's a Gatekeeper with power wagon/creep comp style body.
Would be my choice but all Elements are basically the same platform and fully interchangeable.
